Best Trunk ever
This is the best swim trunk I have ever owned. The fit is great, and they are extremely comfortable. I am on the water almost every day and they have held up to all the punishment.

Pocket
I love the shorts, however if you have an iphone with an Outter cover it will not fit in the smaller side pocket that seems ideal for the phone

Compfortable Fit
These shorts have a perfect and compfortable fit. They are very fast drying and nice and cool on those hot days on the water. I am a full time fishing guide so these attributes are very important to me.

shorts
they fit weird around the waist, the draw string is thin and the elastic is flimsy, the inner liner is irritating while i sit. i am kinda particular when it comes to my shorts, had columbia shorts before and loved them but not these

Great for swiming and boating. A real easy item to take on vacation since they pack in such a small space and dry quickly.

Comfortable and fit well.
I'm a full time guide who spends most of my time in the water (salt and fresh). So far these shorts have held up as well as my other Columbia products.

GREAT PRODUCT!
These Water Trunks are just what my Husband needed. Not for water activities actually, but he wears them around the house with a T-shirt. They are very well made and are comfortable to wear.

Great Shorts
I have 3 pairs of these shorts and wear them in rotation here in Hawaii. They are nice enough to wear out for dinner and tough enough to wear fishing (might want wash 'em in between those activities, they dry quick!). Excellent value, great quality.

Great suit!
Great looking and wearing suit--suitable for swimming or working out. Not too long or short. Columbia's sizes seem to run a size larger than most other companies, so if you normally wear a medium, you'll want a small.

Great swimming/boating shorts
For the purpose I wanted them for, these shorts are perfect. I think they might be a little short for wearing around as short pants (shorter inseam that many columbia water shorts) but they are perfect for water shorts.

Shorts fit fine
I now realise that I bought swim shorts. Did not expect the mesh lining. Still want quick dry fishing shorts that I can wear over norman underwear. Four years ago you made the perfect short. Was made of very light weight parachute rip stop fabric but no lining. Are they still available? A. Hurst

Durable, Comfortable, like the pockets
I use these mainly for Swimming. Had one pair for months with no issue - then one swim at LA Fitness La Verne and they completely faded. So ordered two more - since I like these so much - wanted a backup pair. Pocket is handy for keeping locker key secure while swimming laps. These are also great lake shorts also.

Very Good for inactive water activities
The water trunk should be designed by a water sports person. Then, the pockets would drain better and not turn inside-out when entering the water. The pockets should be stitched to keep them where they belong. Now they billow out and look foolish. As a pool fitness instructor, these work only if I don't jump into the pool.

Awesome short
These shorts serve various purposes very well. They dry fast which makes them great for the beach and outdoor activities like rafting or a hike that involves water. I also use them for working out where the pockets come in handy for holding keys and such. The length is great for leg exercises.

Not for the pool
I really love the fit and look of these trunks, however they bleach out pretty badly after a couple weeks swimming in the pool. My black trunks are now a dark gray.

GREAT BUT ONE PROBLEM
The Backcast II Water Trunk is a great product but has one shortcoming. It fits comfortably, is lightweight and dries quickly. But here's the one flaw: the mesh liner is very uncomfortable against the skin when sitting down for extended periods on a hot, sweaty summer day. I hope Columbia reissues this short the same except switches to a crepe liner or any type of liner that doesn't imbed in your skin like this mesh liner.

Great shorts
When I received the shorts I tried them on, good fit.
Washed them and they came out great as for fit and color.
I put them on today to go to the movies and they were just what I needed for comfort,hot weather and fit.

Not exactly what I expected
These are kind of billed as shorts, but are really a loose fitting bathing suit. I found them to be neither a great pair of shorts nor a likable swimming trunk. Seem to run a little large, dry quickly when you get them wet, the inner mesh portion is not particularly comfortable like in a good bathing suit. The back pocket is way too deep. If you put a wallet in there it is hanging well down on glute and uncomfortable.

Backcast Water Trunk
Had been looking for these for several years since I'd been wearing a similar Columbia short everywhere but Church...ordered 3 pair and will get more when the Queen will allow or I can sneak them by her...perfect fit and very versatile...zero complaints...swimming , walking , working in the yard , coaching , etc. Please do not change anything about this great item...I'm in the boat...Thanks !

Great Water Shorts, but Need Some Modifications...
I'll start by saying these are excellent shorts, perfect for the guy who wants a pair of shorts that double as swim wear. But I made a number of modifications to make them better, some of which address comments in previous reviews. Columbia, suggest you review and update a good design to a great design. First, I removed the belt loops. Who wears a belt with swim wear? They look much cleaner without them. Second, I shortened the rear zippered pocket so my wallet didn't hang so low. Easy fix by folding over the pocket to the desired length and sewing around the edges. Third, I opened up the bottom of the side pliers pocket a bit to provide drainage - the pocket fills up with water and holds it when you get out, a bit irritating and easily fixed. Last, I sewed a lower corner of each front pocket to the leg so they don't turn inside out in the water. Repeating: good shorts now great!

Where's the belt?
Water trunks with belt loops but no water proof belt? Come on.
Fortunately my LL Bean Water Shorts came with a belt that I can use.
The short seams on the legs are the reason I did not return these trunks. Long seams tend to grab the fly line floating on the surface while dry fly fishing. The LL Bean Water Shorts are too long but look good with a leather belt for casual wear. The color of the LL Bean belt that comes with the shorts doesn't match the Columbia Trunks, but the fish don't care.
Incidentally, your description category of Professional Thrill Seeker misses the mark. I am a professional fly fishing outfitter and guide who is in it for the companionship, peace, serenity and the fee.

The perfect shorts
These trunks are perfect for all day wear. They are comfortable to drive in, hang out in and swim in. They dry very quickly whether wearing them or not. Because they don't wrinkle, they work as shorts too.

Water Trunks
My husband loves these shorts! They last forever, the only reason I bought him more is because he's lost weight, he has 4 good pair of mediums but they just got too baggy in the butt, the small is a perfect fit. They repel dirt, and dry quickly. If my husband had his way this would be the only shorts he would wear.

Perfect
I am a full time fishing guide for inshore fish. I wear these shorts everyday and they have not let me down. They are light weight, quick drying, and comfortable. You definitely need to get a few pair of these.

Cool Color
These are warm weather staples for me. I have them in several colors and a couple of prints. They wear so good that I don't really need any more, but if you come up with some more cool colors or printed designs ........ they say variety is the spice of life.

Great for any aquatic activity
I got two pairs of these after borrowing a pair from a buddy. They are a great fit and fit the description perfectly. They dry extremely quickly. The only complaint is that the pockets turn inside out often in the water but I don't usually swim with my cell phone and wallet in the water.

Okay, not as good as original
There used to additional pockets on these shorts (velcro on the front) that are sorely missed. The current pockets are not up to snuff, things fall out much too easily (for instance my money). The accessory pocket is also poorly placed. Please bring back the earlier version!
