Saved me from some serious contusions I purchased a Silver ridge Shirt and convertable pants less that a month ago. I've hiked in them at least 7 times since. My latest hike required a rescue of a fellow hiker which made me slide a snow field of over 350 feet in length. The friction was intense, especially when I landed off the field, but the fabric of the pants held up so well that I had minimal scrapes. The pants are destroyed, tears in the non seams, but I attribute its construction and that of the shirt for the protection injuries. I have photos of the pant damage, and the shirt did not have any damage. I will be off this weekend to buy another pair. They are the best. July 19, 2012
Excellent but room for improvement The pants are light weight, sun blocking and everything I expected. Unfortunately, there is some room for improvement. For example, these pants come with a built in belt and no regular belt loops which keeps me from using a real belt. Also, the rise is lower than normal for my size. These two items make it nearly impossible for me to wear them without them wanting to fall down!!! So, I am always and forever pulling them up. July 14, 2012
Better than expected Was very surprized at the quality, zippers run very smooth .Awsome and very comfortable pant. July 8, 2012
Great quality and fit very comfortably I purchased 1 of these pants in May and liked it so well I just purchased 2 more. The pockets are very well placed and functional. They are great to wear on hot summer days as they are much cooler than jeans. July 1, 2012
Men's Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants Purchased Men's Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants on-line in brown shade since local Columbia Outlet did not have this shade in my size. I've purchased all other shades of these pants at the local outlet. Pants are great for travel, light weight, packable, zip-off legs and non-wrinkle. Pants run true to size are confortable and quality constructed. I do no remove belt to wash and hang dry pants. Initially I'd removed the belt to wash and incurred difficulity re-threading. June 19, 2012
Excellent pants These pants are great for hiking with all of the pockets and are very comfortable. They also look good enough to wear into town. However, I would suggest getting the larger waist size if you are unsure. We had to return the first pants ordered and re-order the larger size. June 7, 2012
Getting the proper length Because the pants don't come in petites AND the bottom hem area is complicated, they can be easily shortened by removing the bottom half of the convertable zipper, cut off the excess fabric and reapply the zipper. This keeps all of the features that you paid for and which set these pants above the competition intact. June 4, 2012
Lightweight and cool! These pants/shorts have become my every day bottoms. I've had one pair for several years now, and the only wear they show are two holes from where I snagged them! I use them for just about anything I do outdoors, from kayaking, fishing, working, climbing, hiking, and a bunch more. I highly recommend these shorts for anyone who wants to stay cool while they enjoy the great outdoors. These shorts are just about comfortable enough to lounge around in! June 2, 2012
Really like these pants I'm getting really picky here but the belt is a little stiff and the buckle is a hook and hole type, like a bra?. Harder material than most of the pants I have bought from Columbia... Not sure I don't like it yet, just different.... May end up loving them. For the pants I do love them....I'll decide on the belt in time... May 24, 2012
This product rocks This product is very comfortable first and very functional second but mostly I enjoy the casual style they have May 12, 2012
Omni-Wick for fishing I fish out of a kayak. Consequently, lots of little splashes and drips end up on my pans, so I bought these. I had to upsize in the waist for a comfortable fit, but the inseam length is perfect. These pants do, in fact, wick away and evaporate water quickly. However, while fishing in salt water, they developed dark spots wherever water got on them. They went away after I washed them, but I got some funny looks when I came off the water and had all those dark splotches where the salt water had dried. Otherwise, they work as advertised and are very comfortable. April 27, 2012
Not as good as the old ones I have several pairs of these pants from a few years ago, and I love them. Unfortunately, the newer version has fewer pockets and a really strange set of belt loops. The older pants have normal belt loops, and I typically use them with a real web belt, instead of the faux belt supplied with the pants. The new version doesn't have belt loops. Instead, it has one long loop, like the loop for a drawstring in a pair of sweat pants. A regular web belt won't fit in the loop--in fact, the only thing that will fit is the wimpy faux belt supplied with the pants. All in all, I'm not terribly happy with these pants. January 29, 2012
Convertible Pants Bought these for a trip to Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos. Perfect style for jungle heat and humidity. I bought a size that was larger than I normally buy as these fit very small. I'm normally a 34" to 36" waist, but when I tried this size on in the store, they were way too small. I went with a 38" waist and it fits perfectly, even in the seat where I expected to have major sag. I suggest finding a Columbia store to try out their clothes for size, then order online as the selection is quite limited in the stores. January 28, 2012
Poor design Regretably (I have Columbia products that I think are first rate) I believe there is a major design flaw in this particular pant. That would be the long belt "loop", a closed passage that extends about 3/4 of the way around the waist.I took out the webbelt provided so that I could use one I preferred. It was a hassle getting the original belt out (the buckle hung up on some seam) and I could not get the stiffer leather belt all the way around. My favorite pants are a Columbia Titanium style that I can no longer find, so I am afraid I have to report disappointment on two fronts.Usage is "other" as the clothing I am talking about I use on mission trips in Africa and the Dominican Republic. January 26, 2012
A little snug. These are fine, but a little snug, especially in the crotch like cheap hotel shorts. No ball room.Liked the old titaniums. Also I like to wear my own belt which would be too wide to fit the belt loop if I could get the belt that came with it out without major surgery. Why doesn't waist size 35 exist? This has always puzzled me. January 24, 2012
A Near Miss for Preferred Knock-around Pants These pants are O.K., but nothin' to write home about. The zippers all function well, it's handy to have convertibles, and the belt's an O.K. compromise compared to having to deal with a separate one. The liner of the right rear pocket of the pair I received was sewn into a pocket seam, misshaping the pocket, reducing its volume and making it inconvenient. This was the first and only pair I ordered. For regular knock-around pants, all the pocket mesh liners' catch inconveniently on everything in them. But if I were outdoors more I'm suspecting I'd still prefer the mesh which makes things cooler. Velcro closures on the butt of any pants are destined to be useless; the left rear pocket *never* stay closed, and the hooks scrape against the pants wearing them out faster. January 10, 2012
too small Ordered my son's usual waist size but this pant did not fit. He's keeping them w/hopes of losing enough weight soon to fit into them comfortably since he really likes the idea of convertible pants and doesn't want the hassle of returning them & getting a size too big. January 3, 2012
These pants do everything as advertised These pants do everything as advertised. I am 5'9", 165 lbs., 34 waist, 30 inseam. On the money fit. Very comfortable and lightweight. Plenty of pockets and the left zippered side pocket turned out to be great for stowing a camera. The built-in belt is a nice feature, too.I took these out for a first-time test drive this weekend on an overnight hike on some heavily overgrown Ozark trails with tons of briars and fallen trees and limbs. Lots of tears, scratches and scrapes. But not on the pants. They proved to be very durable. They also wicked well and along with a base layer, kept me plenty warm in 30 and 40 degree weather. January 2, 2012
Styles much be changing as they are tighter and shorter than last year Hot and rainy is the name of the game where I live in Southeast Asia so I'm always looking for clothes that are cool, light and versatile. There are many times I’ll come out of the jungle and need to go immediately to a meeting where I need to look presentably. The Silver Ridge convertible pants make that easy. They feel durable, resist stains and have pockets in all the right places. My only disappointment with this year’s version is they seem to be a much tighter fit in the thighs plus the inseam for the shorts was 10 instead of 11. Also, the belt that comes with it is so rough in that it actually torn us the inside of my Silver Ridge short sleeve short from rubbing up against it. Great pants but don’t seem as comfortable as previous years so I probably won’t buy any more until they are back to being roomier. December 28, 2011
A step backwards I really liked my old silver ridge convertible pants. The new ones feel like a real step backwards to me.Miss....The elastic in the waste band - the old models came in S,M,L etc.. the new non stretch band require the buyer to lock into a waste size and for me 36" felt fine, a little tight, but the rise was way too short. The open belt loops that allow the use of wider beltsThe higher rise that made the pants a little more open and comfortableThe longer shortsI like Columbia gear and hope that next season's model improves... December 24, 2011
Silver Ridge ll convertable pants I really like my pants they are bullet proof and look nice. I have had Silver Ridge short for years and ware them to work, because of there outstanding performance I wanted to try the pant. November 30, 2011
Love these pants Have 2 pair purchased locally. Needed a 3rd pair for color contrast. Love the fit, functionality and light fabric. November 30, 2011
Great Outdoor Pant These are great for the outdoors. I wore them camping, trekking, fishing, and rock climbing, and they stood up incredibly well. The kept from ripping or tearing, and are very light. The convertible feature is great too. I'm glad I bought 'em. November 28, 2011
Tight fit I purchased these pants intending to take them to the Grand Canyon. When I tried them on they were a little TOO snug in the crotch. Everything else about them was nice, just can't get over the tight fit. Sending them back. November 14, 2011
Pitiful I bought this years pair for a trip to Philmont. Disappointing compared to the previous years. They downsized or removed all the pockets which is bad for a person who likes to keep stuff easily accesible, the fit was horrible and the shorts made me look like an 80's basketball coach. I wear them for two out of 11 days on the trail. The previous years pants are amazing, fit right, pockets and actual belt loops. Need to go back to the previous year design which is the only reason these got two stars. Pitiful. November 13, 2011
Made a mistake.. While I do have several pairs of these specific pants AND they are excellent, I had to return this pair. I mistakenly thought these pants were the "High Line Ridge Stretch Pant", which is what I really wanted to order. I really hope that Colombia can offer the High Line Ridge Stretch Pant as soon as possible. it's heavier fabric weight plus stretch make it an excellent choice for cooler times of year!!!! November 5, 2011
All the pockets are almost half the size now. After enjoying last years pants, the new style has ruined the comfort and cargo size pockets. All the pockets are almost half the size now. My keys and things keep falling out of the front pockets now. Sad that they have ruined a great designed convertible pant. Will be returning these. Extremely disappointed. November 1, 2011
Perfect for the rain forest I recently wore these convertible pants into a rainforest in Hawaii and they were very lightweight and dried in just a couple minutes without weighting me down and making things uncomfortable.I love them and bought two more pairs the next day, while in Hawaii. October 31, 2011
Great Pants! I have 2 pair of these now and absolutely love them. October 30, 2011
Love these pants My husband loves these pants. It's like getting 2 for 1. They wash up nice and pack up small. My only complaint would be the belt loops.Very hard to get belt in and out. October 27, 2011
great quality, and versatile I think these pants are perfect for anyone spending time in the outdoors in various conditions. They are lightweight, don't hold water, and of course are versatile since they can be pants or shorts. I think they may be more designed for a slender person. I guess I must not be the target body build for these pants or something because even those these pants fit fine in the waist (34) they do not fit at all in legs/butt. Going to have to return them unfortunately. I would like to try a different size and see if I can find the right fit because these pants are top notch quality. Really nice belt that comes with them, too. October 18, 2011
Can't find a better pair of zip offs I just love these pants. I have had a pair of them and just love the fit and design. I have owned many other brands and these are the best! October 12, 2011
Very comfortable pants The fabric is light and it's very ease to move around in. They are kind of form fitting through the butt and thighs. I prefer a loose fit. I got a few comments on that area...but if you're only using them for hiking, they are perfect. October 4, 2011
Best Bet for Convertible Pants I bought these for my husband as I had 3 pair already. He loves them. They are comfortable and dry so quickly, they are excellent for travel. These are the only pants we pack for our adventures. September 28, 2011
Good Pants but... There are only two things I don't like about these pants.1. The belt loop runs all the way around the waist and is very narrow... no custom belts there.2. The shorts are ridiculously SHORT. I wouldn't wear underwear that short. (not really)But seriously. I but a 32x34 pair of pants and the shorts are half way down my thighs... Go find me a person with a 34 inch leg that has 8 and a half inch thighs. For convertible pants, I am very disappointed.Overall, if you are short go ahead and buy these. If you are tall, don't buy these as convertibles. September 23, 2011
Great Product Finaly,a lite weight pant that is taylored and fits as if a par of slacks. Not baggy like the REI and other products. This is one that can be used on trips, out to dinner and casual ware. Run, don't walk, to get one. I have all four colors. September 21, 2011
I love these pants I just spent a week rafting the Colorado River, these where the only pants/shorts I brought. After getting doused, and dumped in the river, playing in the falls along the way, they always dried within minutes. They held up well sliding down falls too. I also use them as part of my summer Search and Rescue uniform in the Arizona desert, they stay cool, and hold up well in the brush. September 15, 2011
Belt Loop Design Great pants except for the belt loop, which was poorly designed. I threw away the cheap belts that came with the pants and use a nylon money belt instead. It's a real pain to thread any belt through the loops. To make it easier, you might try what I've had to do. I removed the bottom 1" slat from a vinyl window blind from my bedroom window. I reinforced one end with a piece of duct tape. I then cut a piece of cord and pinned it to the reinforced end of the blind slat. I then slid the blind slat through the belt loops pulling the cord behind it. Once the cord was sticking out from both ends of the loops, I pinned the nylon money belt to the cord and pulled the belt through the loops with the cord. It's takes less than a minute once you get the hang of it. Roll the blind slat up, secure with rubber bands to keep it from unraveling, and take it with you on trips. September 14, 2011
Good pants, could use some minor tweaks The pants are light weight and, while from feel they seem delicate, are actually fairly durable. They keep my legs as cool as can be expected, and I appreciate the details on each of the pants. All and all, I love the pants so far - I shopped a lot before picking these.I would say a couple of things:- the inseam for the shorts could stand to be a bit longer. I don't enjoy shorts that cut so far above my knees...and I am of small-average height (both legs and stature), I feel sorry for the tall folks...- the crotch in the pants could stand to be a bit roomier. I had to actually by the next inseam size up to ensure I had ample room for my gear (I suppose that's figurative and literal).- more colors would be appreciated- the pants are in-between the correct length, for me. it seems that the 30's are more like a 28.5; I'm not quite looking for flood water, but small creeks maybe September 13, 2011
men's Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant Used on vac to Central America rain forest. Lightweight. Saved packing extra shorts and long pants. Would rather use a regular belt rather than the military style it comes with. September 12, 2011
New style not as good I purchased 2 pair 3 years ago which had an elastic waistband and individual belt loops(easy to position phone and thread belt). I recently bought 2 pair of the 'new' syyle which had a solid waistband and an almost continuous belt loop which makes wearing a different belt difficult to thread thru. I have returned the new pair. September 5, 2011
The Perfect Hiking Pants This one, compared to the REI or Northface is right on. More comfortable and affordable. Has zippered pocket, lightweight, durrable and drys fast. September 2, 2011
Strong While these pants held up extremely well to the Arizona brush on a 5 day backpacking trip, they failed in that the zipper of the convertible portion broke after only a few months. While I still use them as shorts, I am not pleased they broke so soon. I have a second pair though that has held up well. August 24, 2011
Just Right I am currently deployed overseas and a co-worker that owns a pair convinced me to order one. I must say, these pants are worth having, a little pricey but you are paying for quality. The are fit perfect keeping you dry and comfortable. Even better, the pants can convert into short, so you are getting a two in one deal. I would recommend this product to others. August 24, 2011
Awesome These are my first pair of Columbia pants and I love them. Nice fit and look. August 21, 2011
Pretty good but not quite perfect There are a lot of strings hanging loose from the ends of the stitches and ends of the material, I had to cut a couple gobs out of the pockets as they kept getting stuck in the zipper, this is my first pair of pants like this so I don't know if its a characteristic of the material or just sloppy QC.The go all the way around belt loop if frustrating me as I can't clip a leatherman/knife sheath unless its right on top of the pocket, I typically wear a sheath a bit further to the side. Being new to hiking pants is this normal, are you not supposed to wear things on your belt or something. The belt its self didn't bother me as much as other people, since it has no metal I just leave it in to wash. They really do work well and I want to buy another if I could carry my leatherman, researching a pair without the big belt loop now. August 19, 2011
Size is running smaller thatn in the past. I love columbia product. they wear great and well made. August 18, 2011
Cool Pants Comfortable and cool in the heat, while shrugging off the chill in the morning. When it's blazin' convert them to shorts. August 18, 2011
great Great pants. Light weight, plenty of pockets, nice and comfortable. August 18, 2011
Most comfortable I bought these pants to not only use at the firing range but as everyday casual wear. These pants are a perfect fit for work or play. August 17, 2011
