No bad for work
Good, because quick drying. Only thing bad is the belt.... Flimy looks like will fall apart fast... Fit was good, material is comfortable, breathable..
Would buy again.

Great product
As usual, Colombia's shorts are top quality. There is a difference in fabric from the shorts we ordered last year however. This year they are of a thinner fabric than last year. So for some sports, that would be great. The price is also less than last year, so there's some savings there. It would be awesome, awesome, awesome to have a choice in the fabric weight.

Husbands favorite swim shorts
The product is fantastic for those who like light weight swim shorts. They dry quickly and are most comfy. The cargo pockets are the selling feature for my husband since he carries many items. He has bought the columbia cargo shorts many years ago and has been using them since.

Major Discrepancy
These shorts have a faulty belt that is frail, streatchable, and cheap rather than the continous strong web belt of previous similar Columbia water type shorts. The shorts have web material at the front near the buckle but an inferior weak white elastic band in the interior shorts belt area. Not suitable for any rugged outdoor or water borne activity. Mine were purchased for gym wear as were previous models which wore like iron. Whoever made the decision to put a cheap white elastic rubber like belt on these otherwise great shorts needs a refresher course on consumer satisfaction.

Definately not for waterskiing or diving!
The belt is worthless since doesn't go all the way around and thus just stretches out the weak elastic waistband. There is no draw string either. There aren't even any belt loops, thus you can't even put on another belt to secure the waist. Therefore, if you waterski in these you'll likely be naked on a head-first fall. Definately don't try the high dive at the pool!
The pockets are decently sized, but again, without anything but a very weak elastic waistband, I can't put more than a car key and wallet in them before they start to slide down my hips.
The picture of the Navy Blue color is misleading. It has the same awful white stitching as the picture of the black color has. I suppose this is a matter of taste, but everyone I've shown them to hates the stitching that stands out.
In summary,
1) the "belt" is a non-functional decoration and there is no way to secure the waist for active use or carrying anything of significant weight in the pockets.
2) The blue shorts photo is misleading: it has the ugly white stitching like the black shorts.

Snake river water short
Since we were replacing a pair just like this I thought they would be the same but they were about 6" bigger in the waist then the other pair we were replacing. Very disappointed that I had to redo the elastic so they would fit.

Best shorts ever!
These are my favorite shorts that I own. I wear them all the time. They fit perfectly and are very comfortable. I got the 9" and they are plenty long for me (5'11"). I have four pairs of them and I have recommended them to all my buddies.

Waist is sized way too big
I have an older pair of Columbia river shorts and love them. I ordered these hoping for the same success. However, the waist was way too big for the size medium that I ordered... I would guess closer to an XL. I will return the shorts.

Name Says It All
The name of these shorts says it all, Snake River "Water Short." These shorts have become my go to wet wading shorts or drift boat shorts. Pockets are great for small accessories while fishing or while hanging out around town. Highly recommended.

Buy it at the Store
I thought these shorts ran VERY LARGE for the advertised size. I also thought I was getting a grey from the advertised picture and color name . . turned out to be a putty color . . Buy this model at the store where you can see it and try it on. Otherwise, neat shorts.

Great shorts
I wear these shorts for just about everything. I wear them to work long days on the boat or in the water or at the office. They look nice enough to go eat at a restaurant, and are flexible enough to ride a bike or go running. They dry super fast and are my go-to short for basically everything. They fit great too.
The only complaint I have is that the little belt thing that cinches the waist became disconnected (my fault i think) and has drawn back into the short, and I can't figure out how to fish the belt out of the shorts to make it work again. Other than that, I love these shorts.

as always = good stuff......
title says it all, I have always been happy with everything I have gotten from Columbia......my only disappointment with these shorts is in the photos of the product on-line the blue pair (which I got) did not show as having white stitching as the black pair shows = which is the reason I did get the blue pair --- in reality the blue pair does have white stitching, however, I did decide to keep the shorts anyway.......
on fit = sizing is accurate, however, they are a little longer than stated.......

Good shorts, not quite as versatile as previous
This is the third pair of this model of shorts I have owned. I bought the first pair nearly 10 years ago. I have used these shorts for trail running, and to throw over bike shorts when riding. The fit of the current shorts is good. My only complaint with the current version is that the cargo pockets do not appear as durably constructed as previous models. The backside/inside of the pocket is mesh, not nylon. Also, only one of the pockets has a zipper, while the other has a velcro closure.
These are nice, good looking shorts, but I don't know if I'd be as comfortable sticking something in cargo pockets I didn't want to lose.

Perfect Shorts for the nice casual look
Great shorts and I wear them all the time because I'm in California and not Alaska. Water drys very fast, light weight, comfortable, good pockets, "very nice looking"; I assume they meant the shorts and not my 60 year old legs. Highly recommended!

Have worn for years.
I have pairs that I have used for years, and am now replacing. The styling and pockets have changed, but they continue to be great shorts for multiple purposes. My most recent purchase was of 4 pair, all the same size. Even though tagged the same, each fit differently- one pair was so large they had to be returned.

Snake River water shorts
Great design, plenty of pockets for wallet,keys,money and cell phone then empty your pockets and jump into the water. I have a pair from about 3 years ago and that's why I bought some more. However,they still need a draw string and I was disappointed that there wasn't one.

Comfortable for all day wear
These are my favorite shorts. I wear them around the house, out for casual dining, when I go kayaking, etc. They are lightweight and are the perfect shorts to wear for all kinds of activities. They are also quick drying, which makes them great for sports activities like kayaking.

waist band straps.
Love the way the shorts fit, dry and breath thruout the day. The problem is the waist band strap, it's stitched to the short in such a way that when you pull it to tighten it it rips from the short. My suggestion would be a drawstring?
Other than that I think it's a good product.

Reduced performance
Comparing this recent purchase to shorts i have had for a long time:
1. The velcro pocket use to have two patches; now there is only one; not as secure; things fall out
2. The zipper pocket use to come with a pull string attached to zipper; now you do not get pull string.
3. Fit and comfort are still great.

Good Shorts
Probably the most comfortble go to shorts I have. I bought three to replace the two, well one that I finally thrashed after s-e-v-e-n years of abuse. The other is still hanging in there! When I'm off work I lie simple, comfortable, and functional. These are it. I was tried of looking for these shorts and finally had the brain storm to go online. Glad I did! I like the secure pockets for keys, wallet, cell phone, and for my dry dive holder for my credit card, i.d., keys when I'm at the beach swimming or snorkeling. The dry time is real fast too.

Not a bad pair of shorts
These short are pretty nice. When I first wore them, the mesh Briefs inside are very uncomfortable, so I took a knife to the and solved to problem by removing them. Also the belt is a little short. When I tightened mine, it came out about 8 inches and then it was just an elastic strip. I still like these shorts, now that I have modified them

Sizing is a little off
I like the style and feel of the product but the fit was not ideal. I ordered the size I needed based off my measurements but it was too big. The belt is a built in waist elastic belt. I didn't like this either. Couldn't be pulled tight enough for a snug fit.

PLEASE!!!! Go back to Cascade Creek
I have at least a dozen of the Cascade Creek that I have had for years and literally wear them everyday. The quality is great and they have lasted a long time, however nothing lasts forever.
The Snake River short looks the same but it all ends there. Nothing compares...poor quality, pockets not deep enough, material cheap,thin, and clingy.
I have worn Columbia products for years including the omni dry shirts. Thank goodness those haven't changed.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but one thing is for sure, I won't buy any more of the Snake River shorts. I will just hope that you will return to the Cascade Creek shorts and the high quality product for which you are famous.
Believe me from the reviews I have read I am not alone in my assessment.
Surely you don't want to continue losing long time loyal customers.

Not as good as older version!
Your version sold in 2008 was so great that it is hard to beat and that may be my problem. Thease are substandard in so many ways from no draw string, bad elastic band, poor pockets, wrinkles badly, and poor dye! But, you are the only provider of this type shorts, so I am sticking with Columbia and hoping for some return to quality shorts you once provided!

old cascade creek(canyon) short much better
I should have heeded the other reviews. these shorts are not nearly as nice as older models. the fabric seems thinner and not as durable. The fit is definately looser, the elastic is terrible and flimsy. The non functional web belt is sewn in place and instead of being used as such, it is a poor attempt at fusing both together. it a cheap replacement for the previous models waistband and belt. in addition there is no inner drawstring to furthe secure the short, which cannot be done effectively with the elastic waistbelt. I bought these to replace several pair that had given me years of service , from camping in the Rockies, paddling puget sound, hiking the AT trail, to daily wear playing with th dogs. They were great and represented what I've come to expect from Colombia gear. These new ones are not. Seriously consider revisiting the design board- these won't win you any product loyalty

Bring Back the Cascade Creek II Shorts!
Didn't think it was possible, but my purchase of these shorts was the worst experience I have ever had with a Columbia Sportwear product. After years of great use of the Cascade Creek II style shorts I went to get some new ones (alas, they don't last forever, just seems like they will). When I got to the site I discovered the Cascades are gone and my only choice was the Snake River style, which appeared to be identical I said OK, must be reason, glad I can still get the same shorts I love.

Zipper should replace velcro
I wish the belt went all the way around as opposed to being sewn in. Also; velcro pockets are not a good idea in water (Columbia should switch to ALL zippers). Overall a great pair of shorts.

Snake River Water Shorts
I have purchased these in the past and they were great. I just purhased two pairs and the elastic if not holding up after wearing them ONCE! I am sending them back for a refund. They just don't tighten up and you can pull the elastic waistband so that you can see the white part of it. Just not quality for the price.

Newer Snake River Reduction in Quality
I've owned these for a couple years, just bought a couple new pair in different colors. Seems they have downgraded the elastic used. Much weaker than the older snake river shorts I have.

Husband Likes the Fit
I purchased these for my husband's birthday. He liked the fit and style. His only negative comment is that the weight is not as heavy as the style that was discontinued (#S4 XM4010) which I believe these replaced. All in all, he was satisfied with the shorts
