Does the job also still a little tight for me. I need a waterproof backpack form y books and laptop for riding to school everyday. Up to now it protect them from downfall several times. Thanks to columbia. October 7, 2012
great backpack This is a great backpack. I love having the water bottle pouches on the sides. Having two main sections to keep things separate is very handy. The colors and design are really sharp and unique. The straps bear the load comfortably on my shoulders. There's a cool little waterproof cover for it stowed under the bag in case of rain or snow. I'm a happy customer. September 28, 2012
Great for college I use this backpack mainly for college. I am a commuter and need a sturdy backpack that is still lightweight and easy on the back. Very functional. The only thing I wish, is that the computer compartment was a wee bit more padded or even better a completely separate pocket! Overall very happy with my purchase. September 18, 2012
Great sized hiking backpack with glaring deficiency I wanted a hiking backpack exactly this size - big enough for 10 essentials, especially for packing lots of clothes for variable Northwest weather. The hip belt distributed the weight off of my shoulders as expected. That the bag has a rain fly is a fantastic design plus. There are a good number of organizational pockets. The material is thick and I don't feel like it's going to rip when I set it down on a rock.So here's the problem - while the bag contains a slot for feeding a hydration bladder tube to the outside, the interior section for "securing" the bladder is sub standard, and there is nothing on the shoulder strap to secure the tube near the mouthpiece! Really, did anyone actually test this? Did they use a random piece of Velcro strap like I had to do? At this price point, other brands do not skimp on these basic design features of a hiking backpack. September 17, 2012
College Bound My daughter was heading to college and we wanted a backpack that she would be able to use for college and for camping or whatever she wanted it for. This backpack is the most amazing and durable material. She loves it and it is perfect for carrying her books to class and it is made so it doesn't put too much stress on her back also. Highly recommend this item!! August 23, 2012
Love Love Love this backpack! I bought this pack in black, and though the red/orange trim is a bit brighter than I expected, there is not one thing I would change. The straps are absolutely amazing and definitely my favorite feature! I walk to and from campus with my 17" laptop and case (which fit perfectly with room to spare) and the straps make the pack feel empty! They are also surprisingly comfortable; I often wear tank tops and have had no issues at all with the straps on my bare shoulders.I can't wait to take this pack hiking!p.s. The rainfly is super cool too! July 17, 2012
Well built pack with important shortcomings Well built pack that falls shore in 2 significant areas. 1) The hard foam shoulder straps may be designed for airflow BUT they are not designed for comfort. The foam pokes my shoulders when carrying even a moderate load. Replace the straps. At a minimum offer customers a pad covering the shoulder. 2) The pack is described as hydration ready BUT there is no internal hook to support a water bladder -- a feature common to every other hydration pack I've owned. This seems like a design oversight. May 19, 2012
Urban Trek Useful I use this sturdy, lightweight daypack as my luggage for overnight treks to the city. There's plenty of room for everything from slacks, etc., carefully folded, to my toothbrush and other toiletries. I prefer, when riding the subway, to keep belongings close and my hands free. The integrated rainfly guarantees I'll have dry clothes to change into when I arrive at any destination. The Silver Ridge 30L was EXACTLY what I was looking for. February 26, 2012
Great quality, with room for improvement in utility The bag looked very flimsy at first. The straps and the structure are made out of very light thin materials, but upon further inspection they all appear to be sufficiently sturdy. Stitching is certainly not mil-spec. Time will tell how it holds. So far no complaints.Design of the bag is very nice. I think it's very cool that a waterproof cover is included in the bottom compartment.Best feature of the bag is perhaps the vented back area. The foam underneath the mesh is stiff yet comfortable. In conclusion, this is a perfect 3-day pack. You get what you pay for. January 7, 2012
funky straps What I didn't pick up on in the photo is that the straps are kind of bulky in the name of padding - but with this kind of stiff plastic that then houses mesh in cut-outs in the straps. The strap overall is stiff and bulky. December 28, 2011
Great pack! This backpack is really awesome. The lightweight straps, the quality materials, the specially designed but adaptable compartments all make this a superb all-around backpack. The hip straps are super comfortable, but not builky, which makes it an ideal every day pack. Though I have had it only a few weeks, I can tell already that it will serve just as well on the trail holding water bottles and lunch as it will on the sidewalk toting books and a laptop around. One of my very favorite features is the built-in rain fly; what an ingenious idea!! December 11, 2011
Great waterproof backpack I purchased this for my daughter. She rides her bike to work and needed a backpack that was waterproof and comfortable. She has reported to me that both of these needs are met. She is very happy with this backpack. December 7, 2011
Great backpack for college I just got this backpack and I love it. I have to stay on campus all day and have to lug my laptop, school supplies, water, snacks, and sometimes textbooks and this backpack saves my back. Note that if you put your laptop in it, you will only be able to carry 2-3 "normal-sized" textbooks or 2-3, 1' binders so if you carry more than that, this backpack is not for you. But I love all of the straps that pull the load tight against my back which makes the load more easier to carry. November 10, 2011
Simply the Best! This one is worth every dollar you invest in it! Spacious, lite, strong comfortable and absolutely a class apart in style and looks! also, has a waterproof bag just-in-case. The backside is the best part..i climb almost a hill everyday from my parking garage to the campus and its a dream with this bag.Did a lot of research before buying this one; beat any Northface bag out there [even the Surge at the same price range]I stuff a lot in here...books, folders, lunch bag, laptop [12 inch, but I am sure you can do upto 15], and my Columbia Watertight jacket...and it still feels comfortable.A classy and excellent product from Columbia! Silver Ridge™ 30L In the past I have been let down by backpacks claiming to be what there are not. However, this particular model is exactly as advertised, and stands up well in the field. Highly recommended....you won’t be let down. October 22, 2011
Great day pack The Silver Ridge is a great day pack. Pleny of room/pockets and the fit is perfect. The ridges along the back and arm straps make it comfie and breathable. My only complaint is that it needs a better pocket for the hydration bladder. October 15, 2011
