Not sure what these pants are for I ordered these with the intention of wearing them around the house and for doing horse-related chores outside. I am tall and liked the fact that they came in extra long. However, they are way too thin and slinky to wear as an outer layer. They leave little to the imagination! I am active outdoors all year 'round and would have kept them as a base layer but the legs are wide and they are moderately boot cut, which is counter-productive in a base layer, so for me they are function-free, unchallenged by any actual possible usage. I am returning them. May 14, 2012
This product has it all I love these pants. They work great for exercising as well as around town.I am 5'10" and have a straight type figure, and these pants seem custom made for me. I ordered a long length in a small in grey. I will order another pair as soon as they are available in black. April 29, 2012
Love Columbia pants! I'm 5' 10" so love that Columbia has quality pants in LONG length. I usually wear a small-long, but these seem to run a bit tighter than other Columbia pants I've bought. I'm exchanging for a medium-long. April 19, 2012
Super comfortable!! I just received my Back Up pants last week and found them to be very lightweight and comfortable (I live in South Texas so that's important!) I have only worn them once, and am about to wash them. The length (regular) was long enough for me, even though I usually need a long length (hopefully that won't change after washing!) The fit was as expected and the pants are very flattering. April 4, 2012
Surprisingly Impressed! purchased a size small-tall height 5'9" waist 26" high hip 34" widest point hip 37" **Small-Tall is slightly too long on me (buckles at ankle with running shoe on) with a little extra room in the seat - but overall I love them and will keep this size. I am accustomed to active pants being too short on me, with a gapping waistband and ultra tight thigh - not the case with these pants! Their contour shape fits amazing! The waistband is constructed with quality and feels very secure and it's compression has a slimming effect on the stomach. The waistband rises high in the back and dips below the belly button in the front which is great for coverage during mat workouts. I think this pant offers something great that I haven't found anywhere else! Dont' hesitate - Try it!! March 29, 2012

love 'em! They are a silky feeling fabric that falls perfectly while still having some construction. I like the high back on the waistline which keeps your unmentionables from peeking out. Great that they come in long and wish I had gotten a second pair! February 15, 2012
back up layer first These pants are tight enough to wear under other pants as the "layer first" implies, although I haven't worn anything over them. I wear them to the gym. They are loose at the bottom, so that adds a style. I like the v dip in the front and the high back. It seems to help to keep them in place. January 26, 2012
Great Pant I love love love these pants. They are extremely comfortable and wear very well. These are my go to pants for weekend casual, but work well with a nice sweater for a little bit more of a dress up. I will definitely have to think about purchasing some more. January 22, 2012
FAV!! Wow Columbia, you've hit the mark on this one! I have the Anytime pants and they are nice but these are so much better! They are a little thicker & the extra elastic in the waist keeps them up! I wear a 10 and a med is just right! I will be ordering another pair!! January 7, 2012

Material too thin and Waist not comfortable I owned many pairs of the old Layer First pant from Colombia and LOVED them so i gave this new one a try and am really disappointed. The fit and new thinner material are not flattering, -shows every flaw even on my size 2, 5'8" body!!! The old Layer First pant was much better! I don't recommend these and have returned them. :-( October 21, 2011
Love the higher back These are great workout pants for when you do a lot of bending over - kettlebells, yoga, etc. I also found them not to roll at the waist like so many of my higher waist pants. I am an 8/10 and got the medium and they fit great. They are a little clinging in the bum, so if you have a big booty you might not want these pants. I am sure I will be living in them. Very nice These fit a little more snug than most columbia pants. I usually wear an XS in everything and these are just a little tighter, might have ordered a small just for a little extra room. I love that they are higher in the back. I'm not curvy and have never had a problem with my pants falling, but this is a nice feature, they really stay put. Nice thick material will be perfect for the Fall and Winter. As for the review saying these may take you into the night, No, these are workout pants for the sole purpose of exercising. Very flattering I have been on the search for black pants that are "short" length (I am 5'2") and are not fitted all the way through. These are very high quality! The material is a wicking fabric that is not too heavy, but thick enough to keep everything looking good and smooth. The length is still a tad long for me, but I am short. The only thing I would say I was unaware of was that the waist band has a thin rubber lining around it, I assume to prevent the pants from falling down (similar to a strapless bra). This leads the pants to stay more around my waist, then at my hips. It also has additional fabric in the back (hence the "Back Up" name) that sits high against your lower back. Very helpful for preventing showing more than you wish while bending over, but unlike other pants I have. I recommended these to a phys ed teacher and think they would be great for the gym and yoga. Great Pants I love this pair of pants. They are the perfect fit for me since I am 5'8" and usually have a problem getting the length in the legs. I purchased my first pair on line in "long" and the second pair in the store, but had to get the regular length. They fit just right. So...apparently I didn't need the long.
