From hot to COLD! my husband and i just moved from CA to ND! it is very cold up here and i had no winter gear... My sister told me about this coat so i did some research with lots of trying on of many different brands and types of coats. After reading other reviews of this coat i decided to just get it. I LOVE IT!!! i am usually cold all the time even inside, but this coat is a blessing because i am never cold with this coat, even with just the shell. I am so glad that the coat has "pit zips" because i am usually hot in this coat and never have to wear a sweater under it. As fir the fit which many other people complained about, i got a MED and it is perfect, Columbia tends to cut their coats smaller than north face and so if you are a small with NF you are a Med with Columbia.. NOT a big deal to figure out :) I recommend this coat to anyoen who has recess duty as a teacher and has to stand out in cold! October 18, 2011
Not for me I had to return this jacket. Too big in the shoulders, too small in the waist (okay, maybe it's me - too big in the waist, too small in the shoulders). But even if it had fit, why would the collar on the outside shell be furry? If it was not cold out, and I wanted to wear just the shell, why would I want a furry collar? I would want the furry collar on the inside piece to use on cold days.Sorry, Columbia. October 3, 2011
Perfect Perfect fit, light and easy to care for. The best jacket I ever bought. Thank you. August 22, 2011
The Most Amazing Jacket! I just bought this jacket and I love it! I've never had a winter jacket, but I'm a diver and I needed something that was insulated as well as waterproof and windproof and this is the perfect jacket. I love the two-piece aspect of it--I can take off the inside jacket if it's too hot (which is a problem where I live) while still remaining water/windproof. I would highly recommend it! August 21, 2011
What a SASSY Jackie I just LOVE <3 <3 <3 this Jackie. It is SOOOO Sassy. It is perfect for shredding DEEP pow pow. Not only is it great for the slopes, it is perfect for hangin in the lodge. Keeps my sassiness at a premium while remaining nice and caj (casual). August 17, 2011
Great jacket haven't had a chance to wear it out yet as its been 100 degrees outside, but can't wait to try it out in the snow July 30, 2011
Awesome Coat I needed a good coat, because I am going up to Rochester for school in the fall. I wanted a stylish jacket that would keep me super warm! Although I have not tested it in the elements I am very happy with my purchase. I would recommend this to anyone. July 21, 2011
Cannot wait for ski season! I just bought this coat and am pretty much in love with it. I cannot wait for ski season to really see what it can do. I live in a very rainy state and have loved this coat for hiking and around the town use so far. It is incredibly warm and comfortable. Many of the reviews I read before I purchased this said it ran super super small so I bought up a size from what I normally would. I think I would have been fine going with a medium instead of a large. I am 5'8" and regular build. I am keeping the large because it is nice for hiking and skiing to not be too tight in your coat if you want a layer underneath. If I was just using this for city use I would have gone with the medium. Overall though I would highly recommend this coat. I love it!! And it is WAY cuter in person than it looked online. July 18, 2011
Awesome jacket. I actually got this jacket for the next winter season, but realized that I will be able to enjoy it as a rain jacket and a light jacket throughout the spring and summer. When I first got it I thought ordering a size up was a mistake, but trying it on with a sweater underneath it fits perfect. Highly recommend it. May 16, 2011
Love this jacket! I was looking for a good winter coat for the coming year because I'll be heading to the east coast for college and came across this beauty in store. They didn't have my available size (S) or the color I wanted (shimmer) but I ordered it online in-store and the shipping was free. The parka came 4 days later and it was a perfect fit. I got kind of hot trying it on and since it's spring, I've yet to test it out but so far I love it. Both the inner and outer layer are beautifully made and stand on their own quite well but together they are super warm. I feel ready for college! May 15, 2011
Finally Warm - Why did I Wait? All winter I went around complaining about how many layers I had to wear to maintain some body heat. Now I have the perfect coat for the roaring winds from the ocean and the damp and freezing temps of the Northwest. Looks good too, so it has become my only coat in a short space of time. Good for rain storms, icy winds and all. It is a bit tight with a sweater or polar fleece vest underneath (necessary for inside most homes here), but otherwise perfect. Love the wet and cold protection from the sleeves and around the hips. Now where are the matching pants? April 24, 2011
I love the Whiribird Parka This parka is awesome. Extremely warm and the just raindrops brush off. An outstanding coat April 16, 2011
Perfect winter jacket Fits great and looks sleek. Super warm, sometimes I'm sweating after walking around campus in a blizzard! Totally worth the investment, I'm sure I'll be wearing this jacket for a while. April 5, 2011
Best Coat I Own Bought this because I needed something for all climate weather, exspecially for my trip to Colorado this summer, where it's cold one minute and then hot the next.I love that it's warm, versatile, and comfy. I wear this thing everywhere, or at least one of the layers from it. It's perfect for hiking, camping, bonfire nights, sledding, football games, whatever you need. This is my everyday coat. Also saves room in my luggage now that I don't have to pack a sweatshirt, a winter coat, and a spring jacket. The only thing I guess I'd have to be picky about is the colors offered. I ended up going with black b/c at least that looks sleek and everything. But blues and greens? Ew. March 24, 2011
A great coat If you want wiggle room get a larger size. Trying out sizes in-store was a good determination. Wish it was a tad longer. The inner jacket does get snagged easily because of the slick poly material so don't wear it if around metal baskets (aka: dollar bins at Target). Because it is interchange I can swap out the inner jacket. The inner jacket has loops to snap the sleeves and velcro the neck piece to the outer one. I never have any trouble with the two coming out of each other. I do dislike that because of the 'true' fit my sweaty pits can stink the inner coat up sooner. True there are zip vents on the outer jacket but the tech isn't really good at keeping hot pits cool. I am a profuse sweat-er. Omni-heat doesn't work as well as claimed. I was overheating and othertimes was cooler than I'd like (negative wind factor). Still love it though. February 14, 2011
whirlibird parka I love the color and the 3 way use. My old Columbia jacket was about 17 yrs old and still great but decided on an updated color, otherwise it was still very functional! I almost hate to give it up! I ordered the new one a size bigger than usual due to the reviews written about running small. Even then I had to return it and go a size larger. The staff was very helpful and I got free shipping on the 2nd one. I plan for this one to last just as long as my first Columbia! Thanks. February 14, 2011
Very warm coat Warm coat. A little bulky. I like that you can make it 3 different types of coat. The inside makes a light, but warm jacket. The outside makes a good windbreaker. And together it makes a very warm coat. This is a good thing when you live where I do. Other that being a very bulky fit, this coat is a great investment. February 6, 2011
Warm, but missing pockets... I like this coat and decided to keep it, but I was disappointed that the women's whirlibird has half as many pockets as the men's version (it also appears to have less omniheat lining? but I don't usually get cold in it). There are no pockets in the lining of the insulated jacket (The men's version has 2 or 3). Also, the fuzzy neck lining is on the shell rather than the insulated jacket, making the shell less useful as a raincoat. The arms are miles long and the coat fits tight in the hips. The velcro tabs that hold back the hood and sleeves are great. Overall, the coat is nice and warm, but the pocket situation is not convenient. February 2, 2011
Amazing I am from New England, born and raised, so I am very accustomed to the cold weather. My old winter jacket got ruined a year ago and then I was just wearing a cheap, zip up fleece, for the cold days...I finally decided to buckle down and get a jacket and I actually picked this one out on a whim, without knowledge of its amazingness! WOW! I truly forgot what it was like to feel so warm even in the harshest conditions. It keeps me incredibly warm and toasty and I would seriously live in it if I could! January 31, 2011
Love it! I bought this jacket in Winter White. I noticed after taking off the tags that the parka did not look exactly like the picture. The only grey part of the jacket is the under arm area. I love this jacket though, it's comfortable and keeps me really warm. January 20, 2011
Good coat I love the two piece system and especially the Omni-heat. My time is split between IN and NM and this jacket is versitile enough to work for whatever activity I'm doing. My only complaint is that it runs small. Buy this parka one size bigger than you expect. January 17, 2011
Love it my husband purchased this for me for Christmas, I was in need of a new coat and just wouldn't buy one. I must say I love it. It's so warm and comfortable. Originally he purchased a Medium for me (which is my standard size)from a local sporting goods store, however I couldn't even get it zipped. So we returned it to the store - unfortunately they didn't have any Larges left...so we came home and jumped on Columbia's website - found my size and ordered. It arrived last week and fits great! Thank you columbia for making such great products. January 17, 2011
Not very flattering...but it was lightweight I bought this coat on the other reviews that I read. I would suggest if you are thinking of buying this coat true to size. I would do it and even think of purchasing a lil smaller size if you don't have a lot around the mid-section. I am 5'7, 140 pounds, with are large chest small waist. I ordered a large and was swimming in it. I definetly needed a Medium. I don't think that the fit is very becoming, or I should say physique flattering. But its warm and light weight. January 14, 2011
Great Jacket I bought this for my wife for Christmas and she loves it. January 12, 2011
My favorite jacket This jacket is really warm and stylish! It does run small but I became accustomed to the snug fit. I love the color, black cherry! January 11, 2011
Great jacket! I love this jacket for our cold Lake Erie weather! It's surprisingly light weight for how warm it is! January 11, 2011
Very Pleased! I tend to run cold and have been looking for a coat that will keep me warm in the winter. I just recieved this coat before one of our infamous Nebraska snowstorms and have stayed warm and dry while being out in the elements. I have found the Omni-Heat to be very satisfactory in keeping me warm. Looking forward to our annual ski trip in March! LOVE IT! January 10, 2011
super warm parka! I took this parka skiing in Idaho in temps from -3F to 25F and I was ALWAYS warm and toasty when it was cold and was able to vent under the arms as it got warmer. This is a miracle for me, since I've become allergic to down. I'll never feel deprived again. I did have to get a size larger than usual, but then it was fine. The liner zips out and is very stylish for going out at night. There are a few drawbacks, however.1) There aren't enough large pockets for things like hats or loops/hooks to attach mittens, etc.2) There's a loop at the back of the neck that you use to hang the parka on a hook, and it broke right away. Needs to be sewn on more strongly.3) The cuffs ought to open wider so mittens can fit inside more easily. All in all, I loved it for the warmth, despite the small inconveniences. If Columbia fixed these, it would be perfect. January 8, 2011
love it. Love the large pockets. Very very warm. Went skiing in 20 degree weather and was not cold at all. Would buy again. January 6, 2011
Omni-Heat is Amazing! Before I went and bought the coat, I got the Whirlibird Mittens. They were awesome. It really does keep you warm without a lot of bulk. I also like that it is a zip-in so I can add and remove layers as necessary. I do get cold easily and this coat keeps me warm. January 5, 2011
BEST COAT EVER My Husband bought me this coat for Christmas, We live in Maryland and it's been abnormally cold here this winter besides the fact that if it's under 80 I'm freezing! This is the best coat EVER!!!!!!!!!! December 31, 2010
Worth It! I had no trouble fitting into the Whirlibird Jacket. But I have the good woman curves and it feels like it was cut just for my body style! I was having to succumb to Carhartt coats because nothing was warm enough and while they are extremely warm they're not exactly high on the cool scale. I was very pleased and excited that my Grill color jacket was beautiful, fit perfect, and was awesomely WARM!! Very excited for the years to come with this jacket so I can enjoy outside without freezing! December 31, 2010
Warm at last! Great parka. Love the fact that I can take out the Omni-Heat inner jacket for warmer days. Looks great and keeps me warm and toasty. December 29, 2010
not warm enough I am chronically cold. I live in Texas but still freeze. I wanted a coat that would keep me warm. This coat keeps me warm above about 40 degrees but I still get cold below that (even wearing layers). I wish the arms had more insulation. December 27, 2010
disapointing looking at the size chart for the jackets and measing my self, it sould have fun, but it runs very small. it is very tight. and i am disappointed. it is kinda bulcky. i loved it from the pics, but i am saddly not happy with the product. December 26, 2010
Exactly What I Expected I chose to treat myself with a newer coat since my first two Columbia coat and jacket are 6 yrs old. I chose the Whirlibird parka w/Omni-Heat and I'm quite happy with it! It keeps me incredibly warm and looks great! I read the reviews ahead of time to get an idea of what was said about it. True to the reviews it runs smaller than models in years past. I prefer a baggier fit, but the fit isn't confining. I guess I'm fortunate to have lost weight :D December 24, 2010
Incredible! I always seem to be cold, but this jacket is so remarkably warm and very light-weight. I have an old Titanium which is also warm, but very heavy. I was afraid this new one was not going to do the job. Thankfully I was wrong. I also have gotten many compliments on it. Next I will be getting the matching pants. December 21, 2010
I love my omni-heat! This coat is kind of awesome! I really love the liner. It's super comfy and very warm. I'm telling all my friends to get an omni-heat coat. December 19, 2010
Wow!! This jacket is freakin amazing! At first I thought I wanted an interchangable jacket with a fleece liner for my upcoming ski trip but decided to give the omi-heat a chance since I'm always so cold anyways. I wear it as much as I can. I did buy up one size and it fits perfect. I'm on the small athletic 5'8" side and with the jackets worn together, it couldn't fit better. The shell is just large enough for me to fit a nice sweater under and I love the amount of pocket space. The color is much more vibrant in person. I got the posy color and am in love. I know I seem like I'm gushing but I've only had one light windbreaker jacket, the Arcadia jacket from here and it was nice. To have a jacket finally like this has made my Christmas December 19, 2010
great jacket compared to many others This is indeed a miracle jacket. The only thing I wish they installed more of are pockets. Like unlike TNFace, this only has two basic pockets. I really wish there were more secret compartments to store my mp3 or wallet etc. And also, i wish the hood was thicker. It feels SO thin. But I guess it acts like a windbreaker?I was ecstatic when I received this jacket, literally like a watch dog waiting for the UPS truck. Anywho, once I received it, I tested it out. I wore only a t-shirt under the jacket on a cold winter day to class. It was 28 degrees 18mph wind so it technically felt like it was 8 degrees. And my body stayed warm. And I never took it off during class when the heat was on, didn't sweat one bit.THUMBS UP. December 19, 2010
The best This is my third Columbia parka, I like all of them but this one is the best coat I have had. It is so warm, confortable, and it fix like a glove. I love how many pocket are in the coat and I like how the hood can be on the coat or can be removed. The colores on the coat are great. I will never buy any other coat then Columbia. Awesome, warm, roomy, all in all the best. I also have hiking boots that are Columbia and I love then also. December 13, 2010
Sizing is way off. I was prepared to buy a jacket and it was just a matter of which one until I started trying them on. I was very disappointed in the sizing. I would normally wear a medium but when I put it on, I felt like a sausage stuffed in to a casing. I couldn't hardly move. I tried on the large and it was better but the sleeves were long on the medium and even longer on the large. Needless to say, I did not buy a jacket. December 13, 2010
My Canada Coat I purchased this coat due to the advertised Omni Heat and the fact that their is an inner shell and outer coat. So far I am enjoying the coat, the big issue is that it runs VERY SMALL so I am happy to have ordered it 2 sizes too big for it just fits. December 12, 2010
Awesome! Great coat! A lot of the reviews said it ran small so I got an XL and it fits great even with a big sweater underneath (I'm usually a L and for the record 5'5 192lbs...I don't know whats up with all the 135lb reviewers needing an XK...). Its unbelievably warm, all I wore underneath yesterday was a short sleeve t-shirt and I was actually hot on my way to work even thought the temp. was about 19 degrees! Best. Coat. Ever. December 11, 2010
Amazing I am typically a freeze baby and this jacket is amazing. It keeps me so nice and toasty warm. I had heard good things about this coat but it exceeded my expectations. My husband is very jealous that he doesn't have an omni-heat now. December 3, 2010
Small and tight jacket with long, long arms I was terribly disappointed with this jacket. I wear a large comfortably, but this was tight enough to look silly. The arms on the liner are incredibly long and the liner has no elastic on the sleeves: so I can't get a larger size, because then the sleeves would hang down to my knees. Very sad. December 1, 2010
Overall a great coat I normally wear a medium but went with a L based on the other reviews. It fits great in the bust and shoulders but overall its too long for me and the sleeves cover most of my hands. The shell is way too big to wear alone but I love wearing just the liner. Its very cute and warm. Overall its a nice coat. (BTW I am 5' 1 and 135lbs.) November 29, 2010
love this coat!! I have the Blue one w lemon inserts. I normally wear a 16-18 top due to being a DD. This jacket is an athletic cut, which means it is a slim fit. I can wear it with a thick sweater and it is a little snug. The waist is fine, but the chest is tight. This is normal for me. Honestly I find I get too hot with a thick sweater on, so I tend not to west them when wearing this coat. There is no need. I wore a med weight sweater with this coat today and it was -17F with wind chill to -25F to -40F. I was plenty warm. The sleeves are a bit longer, which is perfect for me. I usually can't find coats with long enough sleeves. I like the longer sleeve bc it works great for snowshoeing when worn with a cuffed glove and ensures the skin isn't exposed.I love the slimming fit of the coat. I can be warm, functional, and stylish without looking like the Michelin Man. November 24, 2010
Nice! Bought the Jacket at Dick's Sports in the suburbs of Chicago. The jacket runs maybe a size small. Was wearing the inside layer on its own up until today as we finally hit below freezing this morning. The inside layer is very comfortable and surprisingly light. Definitely kept the cold out on its own! Today I wore the layers together and it continued to stay awesome. One great thing I noticed was that when wearing the coat inside, you don't feel like you are overheating. Let's see how this coat stands up to a true Chicago winter now... November 23, 2010
Columbia's the best! LOVE this coat. Does run small though. Based on other reviews, got it in XL and it fits just right. I'm 5'3" and 135 lbs., and like a little wiggle room in my coats / clothes. Got it in deep teal w/orange trim -- beautiful! Very dark blue -- almost looks charcoal. Very warm, protective, and functional re: adjustable cuffs and drawstrings. Inside, chest, and/or sleeve pocket would make it perfect. November 23, 2010
