Great Field Pant I primarily use these pants in a mixed conifer forest and a scrubland environment. In a typical day at work I cover 5-10 miles over rugged terrain and through brush. These pants are very sturdy. I have yet to rip a pair. The crotch is well cut to allow clamoring over logs without constricting movement. In fact, they haven't yet worn through at the crotch, like most pants that are heavily used tend to. The water repellancy is good for quick spashes, but extended moisture will wick through to the skin. On the plus side, the material dries quickly and repells stains. The lightweight material also sheds burrs well, but if walking through thorned plants, you will feel them. October 30, 2012
These pants look, feel and function as advertised. They are great. I am very satisfied with these pants. They fit perfectly for me with just a little breathing room in the waist and just the right length. Very comfortable and good looking. Can be worn at work or play. Based on the apparent quality I expect they will last a good long time. June 8, 2013
Best pants I ever returned These pants look great and are made well. I have rather muscular legs and there was plenty of room. However, the waist was at least 2 inches larger than I am and this is the only reason I returned them. The pants were marked "full cut". Perhaps if there is a less full option, that would fit better. Columbia as a rule to me makes great stuff but there does seem to be some size variation. If you find a product that fits, the next one in that style will also, but there are many products that do not fit the same as others. May 30, 2013
Great all around pant I wear them to both work in the office and outside for hiking / fishing. More comfortable than some of my jeans. Glad I bought two pair. May 15, 2013
Inconsistant Manufacturing I had to return three pairs before I got a pair that fit. Length and waist sizes varied greatly.Be aware that you will not be reimbursed shipping charges either way when you return a garment. May 3, 2013
Better than expected I did not expect these pants to be as true to size as they are. After buying one pair in a Dick's I ordered a second. I will order more as I am now in the UK and water resistant pants seem like a must, not a option. April 25, 2013
Great looking pants I really like these pants, but can't wear my normal 32 waist size. They run a little large. The 30" waist is too tight and the 32" a little too big. I could use a 31", but it's not available. I like the fabric and construction, just wish I could wear them. April 25, 2013
Not True Size The product was all around hugh. The actual size was at least one larger than stated. Very disappointing fit all around. April 5, 2013
Half a dozen I own half a dozen of these pants. The weight (or lack of therein) is impressive. They tend to run a bit short for my long legs but not a problem when wearing boots or high tops.Super comfortable with virtually no movement restriction when jumping over logs or boulders.Phone pocket is probably the feature I like the most. Keeps my LG from falling out in the middle of nowhere. The zipper pocket is great for money clip and IDs.My only complaint is with the rear end of the pants, they wear out too quick. Even the ones I wear to work (desk job) wear out rather quickly and rip. As I said, I have half dozen of these and I'll get more. March 28, 2013
pant size is inconsistent I ordered the Tundra colour from the Canadian site and was impressed by the pants, but my size was not available at the time. So I ordered the Grill and Fossil colours from the US site.If they all fit like the Fossil, I would be doing cartwheels as I have now found "my" pants. The Grill pants are at least 1 1/2 inches longer than the Fossil and the Tundras are somewhere in between. All the other dimensions are likewise askew. As the packaging changes with each pant, it appears they are not only from different production lines, but likely different factories. March 18, 2013
Comfortable and Light Love these pants, just ordered more. Wish they had more colors available in my size level. March 14, 2013
Love these pants They fit a little small, but other than that they are great. Very comfortable, plenty of pocket space. February 26, 2013
thin material Nice looking pants. Cell phone pocket not functional.Material is lightweight, and I doubt rugged.Fit is a bit small. The Lander pants were much better-size, material, pockets. February 9, 2013
Nice Styling and Comfortable Pant Like the styling and color of these pants (Flax). Have the shorts in this shade so figured I would like the pants. It is difficult to discern the color however with names you have given them like Alpine, Fossil, Grill, Flax. Even with the colors showing on the pants, it is difficult to tell exactly what color they will be. What about using green, cream, black, brown, etc. February 4, 2013
great pants These are a little big for the size, but my husband likes the roominess and fit. They're attractive and have strong fabric. January 11, 2013
Phenomonal I bought these pants as an everyday casual wear pant and they are the most comfortable pants I own! I will most definately be buying more pairs of these. January 2, 2013
Difficulty purchasing pants ! Recently I purchased 2 pairs of ROC pants and I like them very much. I thought I would get my son a pair of ROC pants for Christmas. He wears a size 33 w and 34 l and I found out they are not stocked in the 2 stores in Portland. Therefore they must be purchased on line. That turned out to be a nightmare ! I looked on the Columbia web site for stores in Eugene that stock ROC pants. THIS IS NOT TRUE!I went to 5 stores none of which had much in the way of Columbia clothe period. Then trying to order Columbia pants on line is very difficult!!!!!! December 24, 2012
You Will Love The Pant, Like The Price Big fan of the Lander Pant collection. But with short supply had to try something new. The Ultimate Roc is a great pant! Plays well outside and in the office. Has the same feel and comfort you come to appreciate from Columbia. Two small Cons; 1. Prefer a loop closure vs. the snap closure on the pants. 2. Cost, little high. December 18, 2012
pants fit-almost I really like the ROC pants, the pockets are good for mobil phone, keys, etc.Delivery was great- UPS Ground delivers to our house, Postal Service does not- could be better if free shipping :)Size was a little larger than expected, knew they would need altering because I wear 28 or 29 waist & 29 or 30 inseam; a 28 or 29 waist availability would be ideal :) December 11, 2012
It doesn't shrink Years ago while in Portland I bought a pair of the predecessor pants. They shrank to the point I couldn't wear them. but i liked them. So, in advance of overseas travel, I ordered one size larger. They didn't shrink, so now i have two pairs of not quite fitting pants. That aside, they are terrific (with a belt sinching them to a wearable size). Functional for safely carrying passports and large bills in the side zip pockets, they also repel spills, dirt, and wrinkles. Great all round for casual travel, and they work with a blazer for casual evening wear. November 26, 2012
OK but not great I was looking for a sturdy pair of pants for work. I found these in a local sporting goods shop and they looked good. They didnt have my size so I ordered them online direct from Columbia.I must say I am a little dissapointed. The material seems thinner than I remembered when I tried on a pair in the shop. I dont like the pop button to fasten the waist.I would of preferred the material to be thicker and a proper button on the waist. November 26, 2012
My son LOVES these pants. He is on the go (in all kinds of weather) as a journalist and has to look professional, while staying dry, warm and comfortable. These pants are perfect for his active lifestyle. November 21, 2012
Great feel These pants feel great to wear. They are very light weight.I have been wearing the other ROC pants which I also like, but they are heavier and have a canvas feel.I will buy more of these. I only wish I could tell the color options better from the web site. Marsh, Trail, Verdant, Grill, Fossil, Alpine Tundra? Am I suppose to know what colors those would be? November 19, 2012
Good, could improve I wish Columbia would bring back the 100% cotton black pant with good deep front pockets, a side leg zippered pocket, and ditch the carpenter's pocket so the pant would have a less informal look and use. the ROC is OK, but there are three different options and this one looked like the one without the extra carpenter pocket, but no, it's still there. a good sturdy travel pant that can be dressed up with a sweater or coat is what I was looking for. close, but this isn't it. November 5, 2012
The product is OK I was visiting the Columbia Employee's store as a friend and was told by a floor associate the Men's ROC pant was no longer made. Therefore I ordered 3 pairs of the Ultimate ROC pants which for a 38/30 are about an inch larger in the waist. The crouch is shorter thus less room than the ROC Pant. Lastly the rear seem has less length thus giving one the feeling of a 'weggie'. Don't get me wrong. Columbia pants are great products it is just the ROC Pant beats the Ultimate ROC Pant in my book for my body form. October 19, 2012
Nice casual wear Everything is fine except the snap closure above the fly zipper. The fit is too loose, won't hold the two flaps together, even below a wide belt.I have noticed this problem on two other pairs of these pants as well.Annoying October 3, 2012
Comfortable and great looking Great slacks for work wear. Have multiple pairs. October 3, 2012
Investigator I wear these to work, on the trail, and for just about anything you wanna do. True to fit, and the most comfortable pants I own. September 28, 2012
Great Pants I love these pants. They are comfortable, well made, and look good. I can order online and get the same fit and quality every time. September 12, 2012
Well made pant I was a bit surprised at how well this pant fit out of the box. The legs were a bit snug, otherwise a very nice pant! September 10, 2012
ROC Pants The pants are fantastic. The fit around the waste well, pockets are easy to reach and use. They're snug but still loose. The only drawback is the the right side zipper pocket on the thigh. If you put something with weight in it, the pocket drops to the knee or below. I had the pocket resown becuase the pants are completley worth it August 20, 2012
Great Pants! My son worked at Columbia one summer and I was able to buy a pair of these at a discount. They have been so great, I just bought my 2nd pair. I would not change the pants, I would like to have a pair in black though. I have been a fan of Columbia products for years. Keep it up. August 18, 2012
Dont mess with success!! Columbia!! Ma Boyle!! Please! Please go back to the old ROC pant design! The low side zipper pocket is useless and the outside back pockets look terrible! The zippered pocket inside/parallel to the right pocket was much more functional and convenient. And I should know, as I have worn the old style pants, literally, around the world without thinking of packing any other style of pants! As a matter of fact, I haven't worn blue jeans in nearly 15 years since I found the old ROC pants! I have loved and purchased your products for nearly two decades (pants, shorts, shirts, shoes, jackets, fleece), the fit and durability of all is unmatched! But the recent design changes have me scouring the internet for the old design! PLEASE go back to the old design, or at least offer the "Classic ROC" pant!!One more thing, if you want to steal half of the business of other "dock"- like casual pants manufacturers, offer a version of the "classic ROC" pant design without the low right side tool pocket. I love this pocket when I ware these to work around the house or boat but, a version without it would "formalize" the pants just enough to allow us to wear them at nearly any occasion and replace all other casual pants we own!PS: The only reason I don't recommend this product is because I know Columbia can do better! July 16, 2012
Men’s Ultimate ROC™ Pant I'm 5'7" 200lbs. Size 34 fit perfectly. Best clothes I've ever purchased. July 12, 2012
Great pants, BUT... I have been wearing Columbia pants for more than 10 years and these are the first to not have the correct inseam. They needed to be shortened by a cuff size in order to keep me from walking on the pant legs. Other than that these pants are very comfortable, as usual. The waist size was correct for me, just not the length. I wear these for everyday wear and working. July 3, 2012
So Awesome I bought a pair and was so impressed went right out and bought four more. My favorite pants. June 27, 2012
ROC I just did a review for the Lander. I honestly feel those are the best pants ever made. These, however, are not. They are so tight in the thighs that I find myself taking them off whenever I'm doing a physical activity, but the waist and bottom of the pants are too big. I would say they are the exact opposite fit of the Lander. I bought them because you guys stopped making the lander so I bought these pants and I won't buy another pair. Please start back up with making the Lander. I'll buy three pairs the day you guys bring them back. June 27, 2012
Fantastic Better than I imagined. June 9, 2012
Great quaility, needs pockets improvment These pants are comfortable and seem to be well made, have not worn them out yet. The zipper pocket is to low to be of much use, but I have found that if I fold some papertowels and put them in there it acts like a knee pad for when I have to get down on a knee to replace a cable under a desk. Can't use it for much else. Have not found a use for the utility pocket on the other leg, screw driver will not fit comfortably and cell phone won't work there either. Colombia needs to start making pants with a shorter inseam, I normally wear a 28 or 29, Colombia does not make anything shorter then 30 and I have to have them altered before I can wear them. I have 3 pairs (different styles) and plan to get more in the future. June 7, 2012
Ultimate ROC do rock I have purchased several pair of the Columbia ROC pants in leau of Levi's. I find them much more durable and stylish too. I wear them for casual work and around the house leasure wear. In my book they do rock. June 6, 2012
Good travel pants, small improvements needed Got these for field work and travel. In store 38 fit perfectly through the legs and waist. Wore them for couple of weeks straight, no washing on trip and the waist stretched out while legs stayed fine. I probably could have gotten the 36s. So if you are on the fence about waist size, go with the smaller. Fabric was what I wanted, good weight for hot weather. I'm happy with them. Snap closure on waist tends to come open easily.Small improvements needed: gusseted crotch, closures on back pockets, button on waist instead of snap, moving the thigh pocket up a couple of inches. The thigh pocket one is particularly necessary since it is the only secure pocket on the pants. It would be nice to put your wallet or phone in there. But it is too low and anything held there slaps against your knee as you walk. The only thing I could use it for was my passport and paper currency. Helpful, but a few inches higher and you could really load it up with a heavy wallet and feel safer. May 30, 2012
Best Pants I Own I have 5 pairs of the ROC pant, some for as long as 4 years, and, after HEAVY wear, it was time to get 2 new pairs. I saw these and jumped on them. I'm a 9th grade teacher and a K-9 SAR handler, and these pants take me from the classroom, to the woods, and then to town afterwards. They are tough, easy to keep clean and maintain. They are, by far, the most versatile pants I own. I wear a pair of them almost every day.The Ultimate ROC uses a slightly lighter weight fabric than the ROC pant, and the pocket configuration is different, with the zipper moving down the right leg and the utility pocket moving to the left leg. I like the new zipper placement, but, if there was one thing I'd change, it would be to keep the utility pocket design the same as it was on the ROC pant. The new placement, however, is fantastic.I will continue to buy these pants, now that I have 7 total pairs of ROC pants (combining both models), I feel as if I've become quite attached to their form and function. Thanks, Columbia for a great product. May 26, 2012
ROC Pant Great material and fit. Zipper however, is not smooth in operation--difficult to operate. May 23, 2012
Good All Around Pant These are great pants! Good enough quality for some outdoor adventures with a casual enough look for the office (though I work for an outdoor company). May 22, 2012
great pants I have about 8 pairs of these pants. They're about all I wear when I'm not at work. Great fit, features and they are comfortable. May 21, 2012
Ultimate ROC Not as good as the older Rockport which these replaced. The fit is fine but the style, feel, and comfort are not as good. These feel cheaper. They are not terrible but I loved the old style and would like to see it back. May 9, 2012
Nice pant - but too baggy and wide in the leg I know an active pant should be a little relaxed to allow for freedom of movement, but the leg of this pant runs too wide for me. There's too much fabric swishing around and draping around my legs. Cut almost like beach pants or something - I just want a regular, straight cut.. Otherwise, nice pant - comfortable fabric. April 30, 2012
ROC Pants comfortable, easy to clean March 30, 2012
A shadow of the former product Add me to the growing number of people who greatly preferred the previous version of these pants. I have two pairs of these that I ordered over the internet. The original ROC's are my favorite work pants. Nothing about these is as good or better than the older version. I will not be purchasing any more of these and I'll give the ones I have to charity. March 26, 2012
Quality product I'm glad trying Columbia products. All can say is... quality and design makes an item great. March 7, 2012
