I have a lot of Columbia clothes & jackets that I like. This jacket is not up to Columbia standards.
I was looking for a lightweight, packable down jacket for cool evenings/mornings in the mountains during the summer and early fall. I was never expecting to wear this during a northern winter. However, this jacket has almost no insulation in it. In addition, the shell material feels like a cheap plastic. (reminds me of walmart). Finally, the fit is boxy and has no drawstring to adjust the waist. In a nutshell, this is the worst Columbia item I have ever ordered.

I own two other 650 down jackets and bought this thinking I would have one without a hood and I see why this is priced lower than the other name brands I own. I has a real “plastic” feel to it. There is no loft to the down and wearing it outdoors with a long sleeve base layer in 28 deg weather had me go indoors and put another coat over it just to stay warm.

Warmth to weight ratio is amazing. Kayaked in 40 degree weather the other evening wearing this jacket and I remained very warm.

I received this jacket in a small poly mailer bag. I should have known at that point it was not what I was expecting. The jacket is made of this strange plastic material. The Columbia emblem isn't even sewn on. It's painted on. There is hardly enough feathers in the jacket to even be considered a down jacket. I was incredibly disappointed with it. Returned it ASAP. I can't imagine this jacket being very comfortable. The only plus I can give it is that the interior blue color on the black jacket was pretty.

I ordered 3 red dawn jackets for my husband and returning all. They are all way too big for medium. The color on this is not pretty red and it looks like a garbage bag material. Disappointing!

Purchased this at REI on sale and it is good for the money. Filled with duck down, not premium northern goose down (there is a difference). While 650 fill power down is good, 700 is better, 800 far better, etc. The amount of down in this product seems to be less versus competitive products. If there is a "plus", the material is water resistant, and the lack of stitching will keep these feathers dry. The flip side is that this garment may not breath well. Time will tell and I'll review again when I have more experience with the product.
