Men's Palmerston Peak™ Water Short is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 91.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST. SHORTS. EVER. I have been wearing Columbia water shorts for at least 20 years. When I lived in Illinois, I wore them in the summer when golfing, fishing, etc. Then I moved to south Texas. These shorts are perfect for our weather. Golfing, swimming, fishing, amusement parks...you name it...these shorts have you covered for any outdoor activity. The material wears like iron. I have many of this exact model and have yet to notice any signs of premature or abnormal wear. The color stays fast without any fading or bleaching from chlorinated pools or frequent washing. I would describe these shorts as a cross between cargo shorts and swimming trunks. They have a liner so wearing them in the water is not an issue. But the style, length and pockets allow them to be worn in most any casual setting. Best feature is if your plans change...you don't have to change your shorts. Want to hit the local burger joint after swimming? Chances are they will be dry before you finish placing your order. I am a bigger guy and I find the sizing to be perfect for me. A little extra room is always welcome. And the 11" length provides extra protection against the sun when golfing. I have read some reviews of complaints of the lack of a back pocket. Yes...there is no back pocket, but it has a nice side (cargo) pocket to make up for that. I put my wallet in one front pocket, my phone in the other, and my car keys in the cargo pocket and I am ready to roll. If your a guy and need more pockets than that...well what can I say? And finally I have read some reviews that some people cannot tighten the belt enough, that one end is fixed. No it is not. The tag on the back that is wrapped over the waist band and stitched with two thread loops has to be properly removed. Just don't yank off the tag. Get a seam ripper and remove those two little thread loops (usually white thread so you would want to remove them anyway). This will free up the belt so you can center it and tighten it as much as you want. Heck you can even remove it and install it in the other direction if you want the buckle to work the other direction. Like many things, this complaint is nothing more than user error!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shorts but. . . Great, high quality shorts except for two things. First of all, a zippered back pocket would make these shorts far more convenient. Also, there is always an extra length of belt that hangs out. There must be another way to design these so the wearer can adjust the waistline without this sloppy look. Fix these two things, charge a couple bucks more and these shorts will be better than great. They will be awesome!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from River Shorts I live in the desert and love these in the hot months. The elastic in the belt could be stiffer so the shorts will tighten more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love these shorts!! I have tried on a lot of shorts but these are the best. I have finally found my short. They look great, they dry fast if they get wet and best of they are the most comfortable short out there. You can you them for casual dress or hiking swimming jogging and exercising. They are very durable too. They come in all colors to fit your need. You cant go wrong here. So go out and get yours today. I just hope they don't stop making them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everyday I am retired and live in a golfing community and use these while playing golf....great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lightweight shorts These shorts are lightweight, comfortable, and dry really quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from palmerston shorts We bought them in all colors and some even twice. These shorts are perfect for Florida. The quaity, the fabric, the fit. Excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product Like the product. Fit is good and true but belt is too long and has to be cut off and sewed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Water Shorts These are the best water shorts I have ever had. I wear them as a bathing suit and I use them to walk on the treadmill. I love how they dry so quickly. The material is great! In addition to the elastic waist, there is also a belt on these shorts. They are so comfortable and I love the light material. The color doesn't fade. I lost a lot of weight recently and was upset that my shorts were too big. I was so happy to be able to order them again in a smaller size. These are my favorite shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Florida Weather These shorts are my favorites! I am an avid boater and spend a lot of time in and near the water. They are light, comfortable and dry very quickly. They can be used as swim trunks for casual shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not too Boxie Size runs smaller but fit is not too boxie. Once I order a size up, the fit was perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Product Disappointed that some of the colors did not come in the size I wanted. I prefer the 9" seam length to the 11" seam length. I would not purchase the 11" short in the future.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Offshore fishing Having to return as the size is running much larger. The medium is too big at the waist and returing for a small. Other than the size, they should be great outside to wear with the longer lenght and 50 sunscreen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Palmerston Peak Water Short Fits great. Drys very quick.
Date published: 2016-07-02
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good material, belt not well thought out Fit is just slightly large. There is not enough elastic on the waist. The belt cannot be cinched up to any significant degree as it is fixed to the waist and is restricted by the belt holder. On the positive side, they do wear well and the material is light and dries fast. Just don't plan on jumping into the water with these shorts or they may come off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great multipurpose shorts These shorts are good for just about everything I use them for hiking, golfing, bike riding and getting in the water. I don't like the belt system as well as previous Columbia shorts and these run big. I am a large in most everything but a medium in these shorts is a much better fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice shorts. These shorts are nice, I mainly use for golfing. I don't care for the belting system, leaves a lot to be desired.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Fitting Shorts That I Can't Return These shorts felt fine when I tried on dry. When I took them on vacation and got them wet they wouldn't stay up. The elastic around the waist is weak and the belt would not cinch up properly because of the design. It appears the belt is attached in the back and because of this design you could only tighten up so much before the buckle reached it's maximum tightness position. I have no use because of the poor fit and I can't return because I wore them. I'm glad I paid $30 and not $45 full price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best I have ever had! I truly love these shorts. I wear them practically everyday. I am ordering more right after this review. My ONLY COMPLAINT IS: WHY HAVEN'T YOU MADE THESE SHORTS INTO PANTS? Not the style with the "Zip-Off" legs; real pants. Thank You!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pair of swim shorts They ran a little large for me but nothing that kept me from wearing them. The fit and feel were great and the pockets were a very nice touch. The zippered pocket was a great place to securely keep an ID and credit card. Very comfortable, could have worn them in just about any circumstance. Great pair of shorts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfort These are some of the most comfortable shorts I have ever worn. They move with your body and do not pinch when doing activities such as running.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts for the Chubby Guy! I have a hard time getting shorts like these to fit. These were great!. A tad bit long in the leg (reaching mid knee cap) but very comfortable. I especially like the draw belt built into the waist band over a draw string. Far more comfortable and they stay in place better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit Great swim suit. Perfect fit, and adjustable with belt. Dry's quickly! Just a great value!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from multi-function travel shorts I purchased these for a two-week European land/cruise vacation. I am a one bag/carry on light traveler so I look for multi-function clothing to save space and weight. I wasn't planning on wearing shorts much and knew that I might want to swim in the pool on the ship. These served both purpose very well. As others noted, the only drawback is that the belt is not continuous. It is "fixed" in the back of the shorts so if you purchase these large, the belt will tend to be off center when cinching up the shorts. I did not have this problem as the shorts fit well, but see how it could be a problem for some. Also, the belt actually seemed to be reversed for a male with the buckle on the right hals of the shorts. The 9" inseam was just at my knees (I'm 6'1") which is just where I like them. Overall, I liked these shorts and would recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from water shorts These shorts are great for wet or dry fishing conditions.. they are cool when its hot, and if you decide to wade and get them wet right before heading back to the dock i assure you you will be dry in no time. Awesome product!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from adjustable belt and clasp I have bought probably 30 pairs of these shorts through the years and obviously love this product but have noticed in the last year or so the adjustable belt tends to twist easily and the clasp is always falling off in the wash.I hope that you have caught this and corrected it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MEN'S PALMERSTON PEAK™ WATER SHORT Like the shorts. Lightweight and comfortable. Dry easily when wet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, but... This is a very good product, light fabric and comfortable. The fact that you can choose the length is also very nice. However I have two small complaints: 1. I wish there was an option to buy without the internal net. I ended up cutting mine out because I don't like it. 2. Sometimes when biking with this shorts, the fabric rubs against each other making a "plastic" noise.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This products stitching is coming apart after 1 week I've just got these shorts an I've only washed them once an now the stitching on the back side of the shorts are separating. I'm hoping it's just a bad pair cause I really like these shorts. Now I love Columbia Brand just had bad luck with these part of shorts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs a back pocket I still would have bought the water shorts even if I had noticed they didn't have a back pocket but, that's the only reason they didn't score a solid 5. The quality of Columbia products is always a 5 & being able to order the slightly longer 11 is epic for me. I'm not a fan of the bulky cotton cargo shorts, and I bought 6 pairs of the water shorts when I saw the price. I don't kayak in them these days but I wear them to river and back, and pretty much everywhere I go on the weekend and after work. Great Product!!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Peak Water Short Bought this style of short from Columbia 8 years ago and then again 4 years later and again this last month and the fit and quality on the 1st purchase is far superior to the last two purchases. I use these shorts for backpacking and like the light weight and quick dry properties but fit and comfort are not consistent year after year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish they had a back pocket True to size, comfortable, dry quickly, they perform as advertised. I'll buy another pair in the future. I just wish they had a back pocket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from COLUMBIA LET ME DOWN ! ! ! ! ! I'm very disappointed in the two(2) pair of shorts I recently purchased ; in fact , " I gave them away " . No pockets in the back , material is like thin cardboard & the elastic waist band doesn't stretch very much . The last two(2) pair I bought were the same . I thought this time would be different ... so I gave it a shot . My Bad !!! In the past I bought ALL of my shorts from Columbia & they were fantastic ; enough so , that I strongly recommended them & I know for a fact that several people purchased them on my recommendation . I guess I'll just have to be more aware of that old adage " Let The Buyer Beware " .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit could be... A bit slimmer and the length a bit shorter. I like the shorts very much. They are comfortable for hiking and water sports. I had them shortened by a couple of inches and that's an improvement. So, my only reservation about them is the fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for fishing I spend a lot of time wade fishing rivers is South GA....these shorts are made for fishing....great fit and function .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light weight and quick drying I spend over a 100 days a year on the water in a kayak. During the summer these are my go to shorts while on the water. Light weight yet very durable. The material is quick drying which is important to me. My only complaint would be the belt will become loose easily. Other then that these shorts are great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Different fabric I bought a short from your store less than a year ago, i love the fabric and the "thickness" of the short. I could not find anything similar in the store (Kohls) so i tried to order something similar online (same model and look very similar). I received the shorts and first thing is that the fit is a lot bigger than the old shorts (even as they are the same model), the worst thing is that the fabric is A LOT thinner than my old shorts that i love so much. WHY CHANGE something that the public loves and sells well? I paid almost $40 dollars for the shorts and they look beautiful but they are so thin that i don't feel good using them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 4th pair of these shorts! Just an overall good quality pair of shorts. I use them for fishing , swimming and around town. They've really improved the quality over the years and they've always felt comfortable to wear anywhere. I might not be a "professional thrill seeker", but I do wear these more than 53 days a year and they hold up to everything I can give them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Well Made Product After figuring out the belt buckle, this bathing suit stays on while swimming, fits well, dries quickly, is lightweight, and fashionable. I highly recommend this product.
Date published: 2014-01-24
Rated 3 out of 5 by from satisfactory product I purchased these shorts for use during kayaking. I ordered two pair, but have returned one pair. The tan pair are excellent, fit well and meet my needs. However, the second pair which appeared much darker green on the web, arrived a very different green, a color which i would not wear. I have returned this pair for a refund.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Features I wish these shorts had I was hoping these were the same, or similar shorts to what I already had. The ones I have had a mesh lining, separate of the pockets. While this pair does have a zippered separate pocket, I really preferred the other version. I actually cut out the mesh lining but still had the quick drying pockets. Overall, pretty happy to have these, though. I have a lot of Columbia stuff, and appreciate the quality!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice outdoors/sport short Nice pair of shorts, great material and wear. I wish this item was sold by the waist size in inches rather than SM, M, L. XL etc. which makes fitting harder. M was to small for me and L was too big!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 Star - U can easily Wear as Shorts a +++ Nice long shorts. Hub runs corporate adventures and used to wear those heavy double-seated Patagonias. These days Columbia's long "swim" shorts are sturdy enough and look good enough to wear as shorts, as hub does year-round, even in winter weather.
