Rated 4 out of 5 by Great all around shoe Was a bit put off by the sizing, feels somewhere between 1/4 to 1/2 size too large. If I were to wear a lightly padded hiking sock it would be a perfect fit but as I got these for warm weather hikes and street shoes they're roomy with a basic sock. That being said, I have learned to love them! I used them on technical steep hike/scramble and they were great... comfortable, breathable and excellent traction. Curious about the waterproofability, I put my hand inside and ran them under the house faucet at full pressure... not a hint of moisture inside, amazing! I've grown so fond of them that I wore them exclusive on a 3 week trip trough Europe where I was comfortably walking in them 8-10 miles a day. September 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heck Yeah! Just got back from a 2+ week trip, day hiking in Alaska. 14 of our 18 day trip included rain. I wore these shoes daily and felt obligated to write a review. In a nutshell, the only item on my entire person that stayed completely dry were my feet. Would highly recommend. For those reading, I am a female.....the mens shoe provides a slightly wider toe box than the womens version of this shoe and is perfect for a heavier weight sock. Loved Loved them!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid Hiker For years I have hiked in Nike Trail Runners with the air soles. I tell you this so you have some basis for my comments are on this shoe. Recently it seems Nike has focused more on the run than the trail part of their shoe. It used to be the reverse. After hiking in those for a while, I decide it was time to try another brand, so I bought these Columbia shoes. I did my first six mile hike in these today and here are my comments. First. A hiking shoe has to be comfortable and fit well. Who wants to be dealing with hotspots on your feet during a hike? These fit very well and were comfortable. Second. Traction is a big deal for me. I want a shoe that I can count on not slipping. This shoe excelled in this area. Where I hike, it is combination of mud, loose sand/gravel, dirt, rock, etc... My last pair of Nike's I just couldn't rely on always giving me a reliable grip. If it was a little wet, sandy, etc... I had to be careful. Today I was out hiking in all the above. The shoes traction was fantastic. The only time the shoes slipped was in mud and I mean the heavy variety. I would not expect a shoe to hold in the mud I was in today. Solid sole. In the previous Nike's, the sole was thin enough that certain rocks and such that I stepped on, I would feel it in my feet. In these, I did not feel anything. Another positive. A couple of my negatives (and they are minor but thought in the spirit of objectivity I'd throw them out there). The shoes were a bit stiff in the upper. For most of the hike today the trail was a little uneven. The uphill side tended to stay on my right. I noticed about half way through the hike that my ankle bone was feeling the upper cushioning of the shoe pushing into it. Wasn't enough to be sore, but was enough to notice. LIke I said, not a big deal. The toe box was a little weird. I think it is due to the reinforcements. It did not seem to impact the fit of the shoe, but I noticed on my left shoe, when i was transitioning from that leg being back to that leg coming forward, it would make a noise. Not annoying, but I did hear it pretty much my whole hike. By the end of the hike, I could tell the soles were a little harder than what I was used to. I would expect this since I was used to the Nike air sole. Again, did not put pain in my feet in any way, but I did notice my feet feel it a little bit. There were a couple minor puddles today. My feet stayed dry, although the puddles didn't really test them either. So for now I'll say the Outdry is working... One last thing. Many reviews say the run small. I found just the opposite (it seems Columbia shoe sizing is a bit all over the map). Back to the Nikes (I have worn a boatload of Nikes, not just their trail runners), but I can pretty much count on a 10 fitting me. On a rare occasion I will have to get a 9.5. With Columbia's it seems it really varies shoe by shoe. This winter I ordered a pair of Columbia winter slipon boots. In those the 10.5 fit me best. When I was considering these shoes, I also was considering the North Plains model. In the North Plains, the best fit for me was a 10. But with these Peak Freaks, the best fit was a 9.5. So if you are ordering online, I'd recommend ordering more than one size and then returning whichever one does not fit. Overall, these are much better shoes than my last pair of Nike trail runners. Are they better than the Nike ones from a few years back. Not sure I would say that, but they are very close. This is a really good hiking shoe. You won't be disappointed. July 19, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good hiking shoe Light, comfortable, waterproof shoe. Hiked to top of Mt. Millicent in Utah. Good traction on granite. June 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Shoe This shoe fits great and is very comfortable. I received them in the mail and immediately went on a 2 mile hike. They were comfortable right out of the box. They are completely waterproof, and they breathe great. I'm a big fan of the Outdry. May 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great outdoor shoe! I am on the Search and Rescue and bought these as my all around shoe to wear on most call outs, and this shoe has been exceptional! Grip on them are awsome! I have to go through mud, and streams and there has not been any water that has leaked in (as long as you don't submerge it above the ankle and let it in that way) they are a great water proof shoes! I would recommend getting what size you really are in the shoe. I bought a half size bigger, as I feel like most hiking shoes run a little small, but they are a little to big, but can just wear a thicker sock and be fine. I will be getting another couple pair to have in the right size. I would highly recommend them. May 11, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by XCEL Outdry Very good shoe, I bought specifically for golfing. I needed a dry shoe with grip, this shoe has given me both. I have had several compliments on the look of the shoe as well, February 19, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Buy This Shoe First, let me get the one negative out of the way: very little arch support. Now on the the good stuff... I bought this shoe online, without ever trying it on at a brick and mortar store, based upon the previous reviews. I must let you know that I am a professional who works in the backcountry and playing out there too so I know what I'm talking about. I was a bit skeptical about purchasing this shoe as I have come to rely on the other major brand names in the past but figured I'd give Columbia a chance to shine or fade. They shine. I took the shoes out for their maiden voyage on a 15 mile hike to enjoy the fall colors in the wilderness with my friends. Mud puddles, creek crossings, dust, and slick rock were encountered on the journey and my feet were dry, the shoes maintained excellent grip, and my confidence in the shoes increased within the first mile! Upon the return trip to the trailhead, we had a long and steep decent into a canyon bottom and I was hoping that my toes wouldn't jam into the toe box, another critical selling point of a quality shoe; it passed the test, although I'll re-lace the shoes to minimize the movement of my feet within the shoe. Over all, I'd rate the shoe as a solid A- and I'll buy again. I would consider buying an insert if you typically require arch support. Happy Trails, y'all! October 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by not your average 10-E Shoe best wearing shoe I've owned October 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Peakfreak shoe Columbia has never let me down with their products and this is no exception. The only issue I have is the width-my foot runs a little wider than normal and I did not have a wider width option. Other than that, it is like having claws on my feet when on the trails. Rated 5 out of 5 by My go to shoe! I bought these shoes because i'm constantly hiking to hard to reach area's of Lake Erie tributaries to get to the best fishing spots which mean trudging through some very uneven, steep, and wet terrain. After i got these shoes i put them through the paces and oh buddy was i impressed!!! They not only handled every bit of ground i threw at them but my feet were thanking me every step because these shoe are so comfortable and offer great support. i will probably end up buying 2 or 3 more pairs because i enjoy these so much and are made so well that by the time they wear out and its time for a new pair they might be discontinued. Rated 5 out of 5 by Even better than Enduro These are even better than the Enduro, which I also have, because the uppers are normal thickness like regular shoes. I love the laces, the cylindrical shape allows them to glide through the eyelets, unlike the Enduro which has flat laces and don't seem to be made for their own eyelets, and these laces are very strong. Great for walking in and the black/grey color is sleek and subtle and looks great with everything. August 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent shoes, survived CO 14ers I picked these shoes up a week before a hiking trip in SW Colorado. Being my first pair of Columbia shoes, and first pair of shoes without a certain brand name sole that I've hiked thousands of miles in with various shoes and boots, I was a bit worried, but I figured I'd try them anyway. To break them in, I only had time for a quick 8 mile, 2000' gain hike nearby. After coming back, I knew these shoes were going be great. The next week I took them to the San Juan mountains and hiked over 30 hours and 5 14ers in 3 days. They held their comfort and support better than I could have imagined. The biggest test was 8 miles of talus and scree up Kilpacker Basin. Steep terrain and sharp rocks were nothing for the soles of these trail shoes. They even stayed dry through afternoon snowfields and several minor slips over stream crossings. I was amazed. They were comfortable enough to wear around town afterwards for a few days. Highly highly recommended!! July 29, 2014
