My wife calls them plastic pants because of their feel when she washes them. I love them, they are very light and low maintenance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by txcaley Great casual shorts, order a size up.
Really happy with these light weight shorts except for the snug fit. Despite the bit of elastic in the waste, I would suggest ordering a size up from your normal size. 34s almost always fit me perfectly, but these were definitely snug around the waste for me. I still wear them, but they make me want to lose a couple pounds to get a better fit, and the waste band definitely pinches a bit. I've ordered a 36 to see how those will do because other than this sizing issue, they are the perfect shorts for fishing or hiking or the park. Tons of great pockets and a lot of well thought-out details. Really like the 6 inch length, which comes to just below mid thigh on me. (5'8)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Yellowdog80 The Southern Comfort Short
Over the years I have had a number of pairs of sturdy all-cotton hiking shorts. They are fine for a multitude of uses and occasions. BUT they are not good for humid environments: the American South. Washing cars, doing lawn work, or exercise is not fun in wet utility shorts...The Permit II shorts allow for evaporation which keeps me dry "down under." These are now my outdoor shorts of choice.
P.S.- Companies from "up north" have overlooked a major market segment by not directing product choices to other locales. Summers are longer and warmer than Oregon-I liked visiting the Portland store several times- but a lot of sportsmen and women would respond to products designed for the American South (hint: See above)...Think about it. Please.

Neat , Sturdy and Comfortable. I especially like the 6" inseam option since the inseam on my long pants is only 30". Got four pairs and finally put my old shorts in the give away pile.

This is the second pair I own and I bought them because of the pockets. They are sown into the leg of the short and hold their contents very securely. I can pedal a bike or jog with a phone, wallet and keys without having them jostle around. The weight of the contents also feels to be carried by the waist and they never feel heavy or twisted.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Captainfun Material too thin
I read about them being shorts made for fishing but I thought I'd give them a try for everyday use and work around my garage with power tools. I would like the shorts to be made of heavier material to stand up to everyday use. I'm still looking.

Very surprised as how light weight these are and very comfortable. Not sure about how long they'll hold up over time but really like the way they feel. Suggest following washing instructions for longer life. One thing is for sure, they'll dry out in no time if you get them wet!

Rated 2 out of 5 by nbfd398 Not my favorite shorts
These are great in the heat and water. They fit small with the elastic waistband but are made of a soft thin material. I prefer the board short material like katuna. These are great for wade fishing and anything you don't have to bend over much doing. The crotch is too tight for my liking .

Rated 5 out of 5 by myreview Light weight and comes in short length
I really like these for two reasons; they're light weight and much more comfortable than cotton shorts. Also, I'm short and like the 6" length these come in. I use them for golf, boating and casual wear. Great shorts.

I don't like the changes made to the pockets. You removed the excellent left fish net pocket with elastic band... ideal for keeping paper money. The new plier-sized pocket is great for pliers... but, now I don't have a secure place to put paper money. V1.0 was better than V2.0.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JAT573 Shorts were the perfect fit
Just wanted to thank you for the Permit II men's shorts I recently purchased for my husband. He needed them for coaching softball....something black but cool with lots of pockets for his stuff, and the fit was perfect. Also, the delivery time was AMAZING! He got them right in time for the tournament. We are very pleased and will purchase on-line again. THANKS! Jennifer T

Rated 4 out of 5 by NDEE Nice Lightweight Shorts
I found that the shorts ran a bit small in the rise and would have liked a little more room. The shorter rise makes them a little less functional for some outdoor activities. Otherwise I liked the lightweight fabric and style.

This is another fine product, but not exactly perfect for me. I absolutely love the Permit I because they give you some room to grow. As I am a 33 in the waist, the II's are a little snugger than I like, and do not have the elastic in the waist band. All that aside, these shorts are tough and are sure to be some of my favorite fishing shorts come summertime.
