Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love My son is 6'4 so finding shorts long enough is hard. He loves the Columbia Roc shorts. We have every color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect balance between plain and cargo shorts I love these shorts. I order two pair about every other year. They are the perfect balance between plain and cargo shorts. The side zipper pocket provides extra storage space without the bulk of cargo shorts and have a "dressier" look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ROC Shorts Awesome fit & look! Best shorts I've had in years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best hiking shorts ever ROC 2 shorts meet every need for hiking or just working around the house. Pockets have Velcro for protection. You have a zippered pocket for keeping items from accidentally leaving your pocket. Great knife or multi tool Velcro pocket for easy access. I have about 10 of these from purchases over the years they are the best.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Original Roc better Not everybody is 24 and likes to wear shorts that look like 'board shorts', i.e. long inseams that hang below the knee. Some of us older guys won't wear that length, think SeaHunt (Lloyd Bridges). The Original Roc short is far superior to either the Ultimate Roc short or the Roc II short. The fabric was better, and the 8" inseam is what I buy. For some reason Columbia is always 'updating' their product line, which is fine, but how about keeping the best products while you're at it. Suggestion: List the inseam length on all of your various shorts on the website, so when people are shopping they can look for specific product names.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Roc shorts Have worn Roc shorts for many, many years. Love the canvas style material. They last for a long time. Also the extra zippered pocket is a big plus. Will continue to buy them as long as you make them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from inconsitency I had purchased a pair of these Shorts a few years back, and I absolutely loved them. So, when it came time to replace them, I bought two pair instead of one. My first pair were tan (straw) color. They fit perfectly, and they lasted a long time. As a result, I purchased the exact same short, and it is, once again, perfect. But, I also bought the same short in blue. The blue pair, while it has the exact same sizing, is too small. I am sure that when/if I lose a few pounds, they will fit and I will love them. But, the point is that the ROC shorts sizing should all be the same. A 38 (in my unfortunate case) in Tan should be the same size as a 38 in blue. Very disconcerting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Khaki short anywhere I have been wearing the ROCs since the turn of the century. Very durable cloth, well-located security pocket, well-located pen pocket, good waist closure snaps. A few years ago Columbia changed this short and seemed to split into the Ultimate and the ROC II. Both were woefully lacking for differing reasons, partic the material being nowhere near as heavy and durable. I blew out two shorts in less than a few months. Columbia must have heard from more long-long-time customers like me as the cloth is back to a heavier weight and the it simply just fits like its old self. Thank you Columbia. Long Live Mother Boyle!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product These are a nice pair of shorts. True to size and the navy is a nice color. Material seems strong and will last... but time will tell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Was looking for a style purchased a few years ago. This is a similar style. Just not the same material. Will do for now. Good product anyway.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SIZES VARY WIDELY I am an average-build, size 31. For some reason, some Columbia sportswear fit perfectly, and others are way out of proportion. For this particular short, a size 30 is too small in the waist (expected), but has balloon-like leg openings. A size 32 (the next size up) actually has a 35-inch waist and is enormous, both in the waist and legs. I have to return both. I'm not sure if I just got a defective product, or if the sizing is off. From now on, I'll have to try them on in the store to make sure they fit, as consistency in fit just isn't there with Columbia. But when I find a Columbia product that does fit properly, it's great looking and long lasting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shorts Great pair of shorts. Love the Velcro cell phone pocket. One of a few manufacturers who still makes a size 35.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great summer short Just the right weight for summer and extremely durable. While I work in them, they are good for traveling and going out. My kind of short!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Really Like These Shorts The material, color, and length are excellent. The only thing is: the pocket for the cell phone is more for a flip phone than a Smart Phone. I am happy otherwise. The 44" was a little bigger than I thought. I recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little disapointed I love the ROC II pants so I thought I couldn't go wrong with the shorts. They may look similar, but the fit is not the same. Both pairs that I purchased fit tighter than the pants. I have large thighs and calves and that is why I love the pants, but the shorts are tight on my thighs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RocII remains the best I purchased my first 4 pairs of these shorts in 2003 or 2004. They have been worn from May to September every year since. Just now beginning to look too tired and earned their demotion to work shorts. I ordered five new pairs, trusting that Mrs Boyle wouldn't let me down. Wow, after 12 years, same rugged material, same security pocket, phone pocket has moved with the times from a Nokia flip phone size to the iPhone. Double belt loop at the middle of the back. Two lengths, 10" right for me. Buy Roc Iis with confidence. They will deliver a good look, long wear, excellent function and are an outstanding value for your money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite shorts, hands down This is my 7th or 8th pair of Roc II shorts. That, in itself, should say something. They're perfect for any rugged use and they can be used in dressier occasions as well. Very comfortable and durable. Would recommend to anyone needing a good sturdy pair of shorts

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good function redesigned would be Great ! I have 5 already so know i like them. Zip pocket is best security feature available in shorts. Great for wallet but needs zip on other side as well for car keys. Still able to walk with hands in pockets These shorts double as my high security manpurse. Should be 7 loops not 6. I like the jeans brass button. Please upgrade to make these the best high security travel shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shorts for the casino Great shorts with the zipper pocket..It lets you kjeep your cash safe at the casino....I always wear a Tommy Bahama shirt and Columbia shorts or pants...for style and safety

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional and comfortable The color(grill) is a little darker than it appears on my screen. I like the difference. Material feels sturdy and not too thin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ALMOST EVERYTHING CHANGED I really liked my ~5 yr old ROC shorts and Customer Service said they so popular, they would always be available. I ordered two pairs of Size 32-8 ("identical") on line from Columbia. >> BEWARE --- NOT THE SAME AS BEFORE 1) Thinner material than before 2) Waistband: flimsier, thinner 3) Back drop: Was 15", now 17" 4) Inseam: Was 11-1/2", now 10-1/2" 5) Pocket depth: Was 7", now 6" 6) Zipper: Was 6", now 5" 7) Length was correct I'm a slim guy--I hate to think how these would fit if I gained 2 or 3 pounds. They might want to change the name to something else and stop telling people that the original ROC short we liked is still around. The return was one of the biggest product hassles I have had this century. I ordered from Columbia directly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Roc11 pant and shorts I wear the pants daily for work and love them so much I bought two pairs of the shorts. Only one small problem for me is I use the pocket on the leg for my smart phone. There is a line of stitching down the pocket to create a space for a pen that I remove to fit my phone. I think more people would use this pocket for a phone if that stitching wasn't there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beware: Waist sizes are different from old style ROC shorts Ordered 3 pair of ROC II shorts in 40 waist - which is what I wear in old style ROC shorts. Waist on these new size 40 shorts measured 43 inches (+/- 025") on all three new shorts versus exactly 40" on my old size 40 shorts. Returned shorts & will try size 38 when I can find them in store locally. After the fact, I see that Columbia.com size chart actually shows that size 40 fits up to 43" waist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good shorts I found the 8" shorts to be a bit too short for my style and a bit wide around the thighs, but my GF said I look cute in them so I'm not complaining too much. I think that they hold up very well and are breathable yet quite sturdy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts My husband is a biologist, and he's lucky to be able to wear shorts to work. In the past he has worn Patagonia shorts, but they're very high in price. These Columbia shorts are just as well made and fit perfectly. This is his second pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts Bought these for my husband as he completely wore out his previous ones and wanted the same short again. Great fabric, fit and features. Very comfortable with deep pockets. They are his go to shorts and they look nice too. Highly recommend

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Men's Roc II Shorts The waist runs a little large but shorts are well constructed and a solid value
Date published: 2015-09-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Large waist, good pockets Waist size runs a bit large, but not the seat or thigh. Otherwise comfortable with useful pockets. Strong button, and plenty of belt loops. Side zip pocket is useful. "Painter's" slip pocket too small for most phones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hidden zippered pocket These are the only shorts I can find that make it extremely difficult to get your pocket picked. I looked for this type after a bad experience while traveling. I ONLY buy these shorts.
Date published: 2015-09-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from ROC II Shorts I bought one pair to try. When they arrived, I immediately ordered a second pair. They are made of "real" fabric rather than some chemical blend and - most importantly - are available in short lengths. It seems most shorts now-a-days have inseams that take them to the middle of the knee, This produces binding while climbing or simply bending the leg to a 90 degree position. These shorts with an 8" inseam prevent that issue. I recommend them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from the new roc shorts I have been wearing the roc shorts for many years and the quality each time I get them goes down. I hope you start making the better quality shorts again
Date published: 2015-09-02
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good shorts, but the cut seems strange Overall very good quality shorts. Waist size seems to be correct. My only issues are that that they need a slightly higher rise, as they seem a little tight in the crotch, and the bottom of the leg openings should be tapered in rather than billowing out somewhat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mens Roc ll shorts Very good quality. Like the color. Only brand I will buy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this product - but the availability and quality are changing I love these shorts because they fit me well, have the zippered secure pocket, are very comfortable and don't have the odd pockets like some of the other Columbia shorts. The challenge is that these shorts don't seem to be readily available. It almost appears that they are no longer being made. So I bought 4 pairs. The pairs I received are made of a lower weight material than the pair I bought ~ 6 years ago. Maybe it won't matter much over time, but the old pair still looks great - that is why I buy Columbia products - I just hope these new pair will as well after 6 years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ROC shorts I replaced several older pair of Columbia shorts that were (after 10 years) fraying at the edges. I looked and looked but couldn't find a fabric similar to the old ones. The ROC shorts are a great replacement, the fabric seems just as tough and perhaps a little softer (which is good). I found the rise to be a bit short and I ordered then an inch too big in the waist (my fault not Columbia's). I'd order again but next time I'd confirm the waist size first...
Date published: 2015-07-15
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I just love Columbia, but Sizing I own 9 columbia shirts, 6 shorts, 3 pants and just about 1 of everything they make. There is only 1 issue with the brand, Sizing. My shirts example, I have XL, XXL and Large and they all fit the same. Shorts, I have 38 and 40. They all fit differently, very differently. I have 38's that fall off and 40's that are too tight. My only advice when buying Columbia, try it on... Once you do, BUY IT! The stuff lasts, it's comfortable. I'm 6'5" 250 lb, so I'm not "fat", but I'm a big guy. Finding comfortable clothes that last is important to me. Columbia is my favorite brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Husband Really Likes These Shorts! My husband purchased a pair of Columbia ROC II shorts at a local retail store at regular price. When he wanted to purchase another pair, our retailer had none left in his size. We went to the Columbia website, found that the shorts were on sale and ordered 3 additional pairs. Most of the time he wears the 10" inseam, but we also ordered an 8" inseam (just above the knee) for hiking. The fabric is very substantial/rugged and has washed well so far. (We have not put the shorts in the dryer; have only air-dried them.) My husband highly recommends these shorts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fit runs WAY TOO SMALL Very disappointed! Sizes run extremely small. Ordered size I normally would and could not even get them buttoned!
Date published: 2015-07-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shorts The quality of these shorts is great but they run a bit tight in the upper leg area (at least for me). the waist was perfect but it was tight around the butt and upper leg area.
