Men's Silver Ridge™ Cargo Short 4.4 5 64 64
Shrinkage These shrunk from 38" to 37" waist size after washing in cold water. Sent back a larger size thinking the next size down would work perfectly. Didn't happen! Should have kept the larger size. November 20, 2014
Silver Ridge The Silver Ridge Cargo shorts fit well and are quite comfortable on those long hikes, however the quality and functionality is far inferior to Columbia's previous hiking shorts. *The cargo pockets do not expand. *Security pocket (only One) is on the left side making it more difficult to open and use for right handed folks like me and the other 85% of the population. *There are no pull tabs on the zippers heads thereby drastically reducing their functionality. *Zippers require two hands for opening and closing as where previous models could be worked efficiently with one hand. *The elastic on the waist line is minimal. *The belt loops are okay for Levis but not nearly wide enough for hiking shorts. Such a design flaw eventually allows the belt to ride up against the flesh. *The Velcro tabs on the front pockets are minimal and as a result require too much attention to secure while on the move. I would rather pay half again as much and get a great pair of hiking shorts as Columbia once produced... especially when you consider they are going to be with you for many years in the future. excellent utility shorts Great comfort with reliable construction September 11, 2014
Bring back the Front Security Zipper Pocket I have worn these for several years now - on the 2014 version Columbia eliminated the extra zipper security pocket on the right side and added a zipper to the existing left front cargo pocket. The former shorts actually had a "double" side pocket, the zipper allowed you to secure keys or money clip etc. with no fear of losing them whether hiking or on an airplane. Also the items rode on the side of the leg, whereas if you are hiking anything in the front cargo zipper pocket bangs on your leg. I guess this was a move to save money. This is the one reason I buy Columbia over Under Armor, North Face etc. - I liked the security of the zipper side pocket. I hope for 2015 they will bring this back. September 1, 2014
Small Pockets Great shorts for quality and I love having cargo pockets. However, the normal pockets seem a bit small and I had the tendency to have gear slide out of the pockets. Overall great shorts, but I would caution anyone that works around water to use the cargo pockets and not the regular ones just to be sure that nothing goes for a swim by accident. August 25, 2014
Love 'em I am a big guy at 6'3" and 235 lbs. Size 40 fits perfect throughout. Love the comfort for walking on the beach or just hanging out. Buying more as soon as I get to the store. July 4, 2014
Good Love the short, light and well fit for climbing. June 11, 2014
Solid Cargo Shorts After using the Silver Ridge Cargo Pants, I decided to try the shorts. They perform well for me in a variety of hot conditions. The thing I like about them is that they're quick drying and the cargo pockets are just the right size where other cargo pockets are either cavernous or not big enough. March 14, 2014
http://www.columbia.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Columbia_US-Site/default/Reviews-WriteReview?pid=AM4084&ss=true&email=percybenel%40hotmail.com&mid=e Fit well, excellent look, very confy. March 6, 2014
Good Shorts Nice light pair of shorts. Looking forward to wearing them once the weather really begins to warm up here in Arkansas. Like the black belt that comes with, I wear them with other pants/shorts when I don't want a real belt. They fit true, I wear a 30 but got a 32 for fear of them fitting a bit small. Thanks to the partially elasticated waist though I could still wear them without a belt if I really needed to. March 3, 2014
Disappointed From year to year, can't count on size to fit. Changes all the time. Of course styles change, but the cargo pockets the basic water short which have served me years aren't there. January 26, 2014
Too Small Have to return as the size doesn't work. Don't think moving to a larger size will help. Like the quality. January 7, 2014
Great hiking shorts! Excellent mobility and breath ability. They also have a stylish appearance...because we all know hiking is all about how you look...;) January 2, 2014
Great shorts but a little tight in the hips I ordered size 34" waist 12" inseam. The waist itself is correct but the shorts are just a bit too "form fitting" to be super comfortable just below the waist. They are a bit snug in the hips. The fabric is great and is perfect for the humid south florida climate; they dry fast and wick moisture away. If these were a bit more "baggy" they would be the perfect shorts. December 18, 2013
Terrible Sizing As usual, Columbia sizes their clothing much smaller than it actually is. I purchased this in what I thought would fit me just fine. I wear all of my other jeans and shorts in a 33-34 waist and have no problems with other companies' sizing. When I received this short in 34" waist, I couldn't even get it up to my waist. It's like they made this short for a man with a 34" waist, but designed the rest of the short for somebody with a 29" waist. The legs were far to tight to even consider. Once I could actually pull it up to where I could button it, the waist size was correct, but it's far to small in the legs and butt to even be considered comfortable, let alone be used for hiking. December 11, 2013
Perfect I buy Columbia for the reliability. Got these for my son-in-law because he is a big fisherman. Scored the big points on more than one occasion. Now it's all I get him. I don't normally buy clothing for someone because you never get the size, style, ect. right-but I can never go wrong with these. Great product! December 4, 2013
So light they could for girls Really disappointed - ultra light weight - almost like chiffon - not for outdoor guys. Worst still I had to pay UPS $10 to return them. October 29, 2013
Be careful of shorts I bought these same shorts in the Outlet stores and they were $5.00 or a little more less in cost, yet you can never find the color even though the outlet store says they will get them…and I made like 7 trips. The two I got online and shipped to me albeit the same shorts had a design difference. The front pockets on the ordered shorts were better and seemed normal whereas the pockets on the Outlet store shorts were shorter and I am now of the belief that the Outlet shorts are a defect and while not being sold as such are actually seconds/defect products. It is also difficult to get them in sizing that this company offers like you can never find the 10 inch length although it is offered. October 26, 2013
Best shorts ever These shorts are perfect - light weight, rugged, pockets galore, "built-in" belt, no ironing needed, fast drying - and did I mention comfortable? They come in colors to fit any wardrobe requirement, too. October 13, 2013
vacation time I had to buy new shorts for vacation. I have no time for shopping, so I bought 4 new pair of shorts online. I love them & it took no time to find what I wanted or place the order. October 7, 2013
Awesome Pants!! This are the pants my 16 year old son uses for school and he LOVES them, they are light and breeze, it keep him cool and comfortable all day even when he plays basket and volleyball in them at school!! I give it two thumbs up, and would definitely recommend!! September 5, 2013
Great hiking shorts Great hiking shorts for warm weather. Very lightweight nylon is quick to dry and relatively cool. They're cut in a more traditional/slimmer fit, so if you're looking for a loose/baggy fit you'll want to size up. August 30, 2013
Great Fishing & Boating Shorts Bought the Silver Ridge Cargo Shorts for fishing, crabbing and general summer outdoor wear. Medium fits very well for me with a 34-35 inch waist. Has a slim tailored look which is appreciated without the total baggie look of most cargo shorts. They dry quickly and have one zipped leg pocket, the others are velcro closures. Would recommend both leg pockets be zipped for valuables safety if you happen to go overboard. Removable belt works well and is practical around water. All in all a great product so far. August 16, 2013
Great shorts I bought the shorts for a four day hike in Olympic National Park. They were comfortable, durable, and functional. The front pockets were deep enough to keep stuff in but not so deep they got in the way. The zip cargo pocket was the feature I really liked for stuff you could not lose. August 12, 2013
A great pair of shorts Great fit in waist and length, color as described, quality of materials very good. They are light and will be great shorts for an active summer. very water resistant. The cargo style pocket is hidden, making the shorts look stylish and well fitting. Overall great quality shorts! August 4, 2013
Great Shorts Just what I was looking for. A lightweight short with side velcro pocket. I received my first pair and immediately ordered another pair in different color. July 31, 2013
Summer Cargo short Bought these shorts for my husband for our trip to hot & humid Savannah. Fits true to size, loves all the pockets. Very comfortable, lightweight and nice looking, so much so I got him another pair. July 29, 2013
Cargo Short + Camp Muir I wore these for camp muir hike and felt really good, it was a nice mid 70's day hike! July 26, 2013
This is a great product Nice looking, fits well. Fully functional and stylish front pockets with easy to access back pockets (just the right amount of Velcro). Can wear right out of the dryer (no special after-wash care required). Light-weight, and quick to dry when wet. Great for camping. July 24, 2013
Light weight I love how light they are. I sit in a scooter (handicapped) in the afternoons and these really are cool with this humidity. The length may need to be one more inch longer. May get that length next time. Will buy again and again. July 14, 2013
Brilliant Shorts for my lifestyle I had to actually collect my shorts from my sons address in San Francisco because Columbia wont ship to New Zealand. In NZ you can only purchase one colour (Sage Green) I will always buy these shorts as they are the absolute best shorts that I have ever owned and likely to own. Robert New Zealand July 9, 2013
Long shorts Finally a company, that makes a short long enough for long legs. July 8, 2013
Men's Silver Ridge™ Cargo Short These seem to be just the ticket for work. I operate a water taxi and these shorts are great. They are cool in the hot weather and dry quickly if I get wet (rain). These shorts came with a narrow web belt, but I wish the belt loops on the shorts were a little larger, so that I could use my larger Columbia web belt. I will be ordering a couple more pair before the summer is over. July 4, 2013
Love these shorts The material is lightweight and comfortable. I am able to run, fish, workout, and they still look nice paired with a good shirt. They dry quickly. The only negative, which is my mostly my laziness, they winkle a lot if left in dryer. June 30, 2013
Comfort in the Heat I have enjoyed the fit and comfort of these shorts in the humid that climate that I live in during the summer months. The comfort is unreal as they don't stick to you and they are very breathable. June 28, 2013
Great look and color I bought this for my husband. He has 2 others in different colors. Love the style and from the picture on line, the color I chose looked to be charcoal. It really is dark navy and a terrific color so we are delighted. Would highly recommend this product. June 24, 2013
Perfect Fit and Finish The shorts arrived exactly as promised and in plenty of time for my planned vacation. I waited until a week before I was to leave to make the purchase. Columbia promised delivery in 3 to 5 days and they arrived in 3. Thanks, Columbia, for performing as promised. June 19, 2013
All the features of the shorts comes in very handy. Very pleased with the overall design/shape of the shorts. The feel of the material and the number of pockets add to the overall comfort and product usefulness. A greater color selection would be the ultimate option. Regards! June 14, 2013
As usual As usual Columbia has delivered an excellent product. These shorts wear great and are really comfortable. May 10, 2013
Cargo for Golf course These shorts have all the features required for golf, beach , summer concert or just a walk in the park. Excellent weight, color, sun protection, moisture resistance.......everything but money in the pockets arrived when I received these shorts. May 9, 2013
So far, so good Only had a chance to wear them once so far, but everything seems great. They do feel a little small in the waist for a 32, but that's what elastic's for. May 3, 2013
7 Months in Peace Corps South Pacific I'm a Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu, a subtropical island nation in the South Pacific. I feel air conditioning about once a week when I go into town and go explore the bush multiple times a week. Before leaving, I purchased 4 pairs of these shorts at a local department store: 2 grey, 1 brown, 1 green. Knowing what little I did before departure, I was looking for lightweight, stain-resistant pants. Additionally, I bought 2 pairs of Blood & Guts convertible pants which I wear almost exclusively as shorts. First, the pros and cons of the Silver Ridge shorts and then a little compare and contrast with the B&Gs. Cons: The inseam of one pair of my shorts split open within the first month of my service. As all of the others have held up I can only assume that I stressed an uncommon flaw in an uncommon way. Also, when sitting inside, these shorts do feel a bit long. My generation finds shorts below the knees to be fashionable, but in a hot climate it's really the shorter the better (within respectability). However, when riding in the backs of pickups or other situations where you must sit for long periods of time in the sun, long pants help to protect the thighs from sunburn. Pros: These are very lightweight pants and keep me cool. The mesh pockets have not been an issue for me and, I'm guessing, feel a lot better than cotton pockets sticking against the skin. I wash my clothes with an overnight soaking method here using tap water and laundry detergent in a bucket. I put them through a lot and they come out looking more or less like the day I bought them. I've been unable to remove the cuttlefish ink from one pair, but that's the only significant stain on my four pairs. Against the Blood & Guts shorts: I have not used the Blood & Guts shorts for their intended purpose: lots of fishing on a boat. But I do lots of things that get me dirty in a saltwater and tropical backcountry environment and I'd have to say that I much prefer the Silver Ridge shorts to the B&Gs for two reasons. One, the B&Gs are a significantly heavier construction and, two, the fabric seems to soak up grunge a lot more, making the B&Gs feel dirtier far quicker than the Silver Ridge shorts. The one benefit to the B&G shorts is the cut, for walking around in the backcountry they are the right cut: just a little above the knee and not quite so loose in the fit. I know it's pretty specific, but if I could get Silver Ridge fabric in a B&G cut, I'd say that'd be the perfect walkabout short on subtropical islands. April 26, 2013
Nice looking and great fit Nice and light especially for backpacking but I wish the hip pockets were deeper and that one back pocket was zippered. Earlier versions of this short did have deeper pockets. April 25, 2013
Nice Hiking Shorts Comfortable, lightweight, full featured sport shorts. I have not had the opportunity to use them yet (too cold so far) but the quality appears to be there. One minor issue is that they are only about 11.5 inches in length, not 12 as advertised. April 23, 2013
A disappointment I guess I didn't read the product description well enough. The material is 100% synthetic. It doesn't breathe and gets hot when it's hot out. The pockets are shallow and make me worry about things falling out of them when I sit down. The shortest inseam is 10" and that still touches the knee of this 6' guy - this is important when I am ascending slickrock. I don't like to be restricted in my movements while "going up". I wouldn't buy them again. April 21, 2013
Perfect shorts for me Great fit, love the length (I'm 6'6" and it's great to find 12" inseam), very lightweight yet sturdy and durable. The quick dry aspect makes them the perfect travel short. Will be just right for our Galapagos trip this summer. March 28, 2013
Not loose fitting These shorts are not loose fitting. Tight around the thighs, rear end, and front. Waist was fine, so size was not the issue. Needs deeper pockets, too. I really like the material and overall feel......the cut is just too fitted, felt constricted. I am returning them. March 27, 2013
Mens Silver Ridge Cargo Shorts I like all aspects of the silver ridge cargo shorts. I like the elastic waist with the light weight belt I like the light weight material I like the fit I like the clean look What I don't like is the length of the shorts. I ordered size 34x12. what I received is 34x11?? On 2-8-13 I ordered silver ridge shorts. size 34x12 and got 34x11?? March 21, 2013
Good quality shorts I definitely like these shorts. I am 6'2" and got the ones with a 12" inseam. They almost cover my entire knee cap. Very lightweight, yet durable material. I will be buying another pair in a different color soon. They should hold up a long time. February 13, 2013
still good I wish it had the two zippered pockets like the older style. February 11, 2013
