Rated 1 out of 5 by Cargo Pockets Aloha, Love the shorts just not the last 2 purchased. Side cargo pocket ! There was only 1 & it was a straight up & down design that was horrible. Did not fit much & things always falling out occupy forgot to zip it. Poor design to say the least. Who thought of it? Speak to them about this. Will never pay your prices for poor quality again.... Mahalo for your time. Alan April 30, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Traveling Very comfortabel and easy to pack on long trips! April 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awsome shorts Fits great and pockets hold everything I need. Also have had other brands this is better Just Say'in. April 11, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Shorts Left side has zip, right is velcro flap. I'd prefer both to be flap or zip but they are functional as is. My 6s fits both comfortably. I went with size 34 (typically 34/35) and these are working but might do a 36 next time for more freedom of movement. April 6, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by 12 Inch Shorts Almost as soon as I received my first pair of these shorts, I ordered another. They fit well, I like the longer length, and they are the right weight for summer or warmer climates. March 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Shorts I bought these in every color. Wear them every day. Very comfortable. You simply cannot go wrong with these. February 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great cargo shorts! These are great cargo shorts. I have owned several pair for a number of years - they have become my go-to shorts. Comfortable, durable, practical, easy to maintain and quick-drying. January 4, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by pockets tore in two days The pockets are lined with a thin mesh material. All I carried was a set of keys. They tore through the lining in two days. The Permit Short is similar and I have owned several pairs of those with no problems. Avoid the Silver Ridge Cargo shorts January 3, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Quality shorts, but a little narrow. These shorts perform great, but I am a very average sized male and these tend to have narrow legs and bunch in the junk area a bit. Fine for everyday wear, but the bunching can get annoying on active summer hikes or wet wading a stream. December 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by When you never wear the zip off legs... Good for when you never wear the zip off legs on convertible pants. However the legs on these shorts are wider at the bottom (12.5 inches) than the legs at the zip off point on the convertibles (11.0 inches). December 13, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Didn't get a real chance to test them out. From what I seen and felt they were a good product. I had to sent them back though. Too small. I'm a 36W, but I found them a bit tight. October 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by So far so good I recently bought a pair of these shorts, and so far I love them. They are extremely light and comfortable. In fact they are so light, the only problem I have is that they seem like they could wear out rather quickly, which I obviously have no idea if they will or not. If they can stand the test of time, these are definitely a great buy. October 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Comfort and Stretch I wore these shorts hiking John Muir Trail for five days. They are light and comfortable. The difference between other shorts I've worn of this style is the slight stretch in the waste. With the included belt, I've not worn other shorts that can compare in comfort. Also moved well when climbing over obstacles on the trail. August 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great casual shorts I wear these for work and I also bike home with them. The zip pocket is great for important things while the right velcro pocket is fine for frequently needed things. August 12, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Bad Pockets I have bought these exact shorts a few years ago and thought they were great, but the new ones are constructed very well, but the pockets are worthless, except for the one cargo pocket with the zipper. My old shorts had a zippered pocket for money or keys, then the back pocket was zippered for wallet, then both cargo pockets were zippered, kept my stuff very safe. The new pockets are terrible, I have had my wallet fall out, I have had my money clip fall out, I have had my keys fall out. If you don't plan on carrying anything in your pockets the shorts are good. July 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product! These shorts are very comfortable. I like the elastic inserts in the waistband so that it gives with bending while playing sports and/or hiking. They are a nice light material for summer but tough enough to withstand daily wear. They wash like a dream and take very little time to dry. I would definitely recommend these shorts. July 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great shorts These shorts are very comfortable in hot weather. They are handy for travelling because they can be washed and will dry over night. They are functional for hiking yet look dressy enough for wear in town. I liked the first pair I bought so much that I ordered another pair in a different colour. July 26, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pockets Fit is great, material is nice and light for summer wear, lots of pockets to use as long as you don't carry anything with any weight or thickness as it gets uncomfortable. It's nice to be able to specify 8 or 10 inch lengths but I would even like to see a 6 inch length. July 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent I'm in love with this shorts - excellent material with lot of covered zippers and pockets. Its very comfortable and stylish. Highly recommended! July 7, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Waist size of colors not all the same Bought two pair one in tusk and one in grill. The waist was not the same in both. The tusk was smaller although they are both listed as the same size. June 28, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Shorts Shorts are comfortable and cool and made well. The belt is not of the same quality. June 25, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Climbing Instructor Disappointed. I have to agree with other revues posted that the Silver Ridge Cargo pant is not up to the expectation of Columbia. 1) The Velcro (small strips) holding the pockets together is very small, and does not secure the pockets tightly....my cell phone fell out of the right hand cargo pocket, because of the weak/small amount of Velcro. 2) The front cargo pockets "flop" with every stride I make while approaching or climbing. Would be nice if they were a part of the pants, rather than a loose pocket of its own. Very annoying. Too much "flapping" of the legs with each stride. 3) The left hand pocket has a zipper and this is nice, and does hold items securely. Not so with the right cargo pocket.....barely any holding power. 4) The same with the rear pockets. Will not secure a wallet or anything sizable or bulky. 5) The two front pockets are very "shallow" and will allow anything to slip out...even with the small minimal Velcro strip that is in place. But the fit, and comfort is very nice and wears well, with quick drying properties. The biggest drawback is the "flapping of the legs" cargo pockets, with small Velcro strips. Annoying. If both cargo pockets had zippers/or full Velcro closure and were a part of the pant legs they would be wonderful. Consider zippers on the two rear pockets, or at least a full Velcro strip for total closure. June 17, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice Shorts But Did Not Fit Me Well Shorts are good quality, but the fit was not for me. I have worn the older Silver Ridge shorts for a few years and they fit me well. I could not find the correct size with the newer shorts. I am 6'1'' and weigh 165 lbs. and wore the medium longs (12in. inseam) in the older shorts: I usually wear a 32 waist in all shorts and pants. Theses current shorts fit small in the legs. I ordered a 32 waist and it was perfect, but the legs felt tight; putting my hands into the pockets was a really tight squeeze. Sitting down was uncomfortabIe. I don't have muscle bound legs--I am pretty lean--so the lack of space was surprising. I returned the shorts with no issues, and got the 34 waist. The waist was huge on me, but the constricted leg issue from before was gone (a belt was no good to help the waist: too much fabric to gather). Returned those too. Unfortunately, the sizing was just a poor fit for me. June 11, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Wrong size After reading reviews I decided to go up a size...... Big mistake. Shorts were huge! Just order next two sizes down. Hoping one of them will fit. June 8, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Not as good as last year's I bought a couple of these last year or the year before. I liked them so much that I decided to buy a couple more this year. While I have not worn them much yet I have already found one feature that was nicer in the older shorts. Namely the belt. The new belt clasp is not as easy to use, feels less secure, and feels cheaper than the old belt. Beyond this the shorts are still comfortable and provide all the features I require in a hiking short. A year ago I would have rated these 5 stars overall and 5 stars for quality and function. I would probably still have rated them 5 stars if I did not have the older shorts to compare. Just a minor step down in quality. June 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Finally found a replacement My old Columbia cargo short finally became painting shorts after 6 or 7 years of constant use. I am a creature of consistency and wanted the same style and fit. I got what I wanted. They look and feel even better and they fit perfectly. I recommend buying these shorts. May 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect I love these shorts, I own 5 pairs of them. The material is so great, it is tough and resist tears, light weight, drys quickly. Perfect. I wear them on warm days when hunting, the material isn't very load, and it is so much lighter than many other tech shorts I have owned. But don't confuse light weight with weakness, I climb all over the place in these, through some of the thickest brush Oregon has to offer, both on the coast and here in the Rogue Valley, and I have yet to rip or tear a pair. The zip pockets are great, plenty of storage room. I really cant say enough about these shorts. Get a pair and you'll know what I mean. May 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Silver Ridge Cargo I spend a lot of time on the water and mostly in a kayak. I love that these are sturdy, lightweight, and long. I'm not a big fan of short shorts, so being able to choose a 12" length was valuable to me. Favorite shorts. May 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by would buy again Nice quality; lightweight. May 8, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by very nice UPF and light weight, very comfortable! April 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Shorts made Great fit, true to size. I'm 6'6" 215# and these fit me well. You can get them filthy stained with blood, sweat and tears, wash them and they come clean and the look new. Pack them, pull them out and shake them and they look newly pressed. They are very durable and take the abuse. I do yard work, golf, walk, hike, swim and go to nice restaurants wearing them. I'm slowly replacing all my shorts with Silver-Ridge. I highly recommend them. April 12, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love'em! Ok, so I was apprehensive about buying these shorts because of the mixed reviews and size/fit concerns but I pulled the trigger and bought a couple pairs and here is what I think. I usually wear a 36 waist pant from Columbia, and that is the same size I bought in these shorts (36x12). I would say they are the same fit around the waist as I am used to buying. The crotch area which other reviewers have stated to be "very snug" in that area, I did not experience that with these shorts, they have the same fit as any other Modern Classic fit items...they may have made adjustments to the fit for 2015 too, not sure. I ordered the Everblue & Columbia Grey colors, and they are 2 great new colors. Love that Columbia is experimenting with actual "colors" instead of just the usual earth tones... I will be buying a few more of these for the Peace Corps trip I have in Africa next month. Hoping these will be the right summer weight shorts for year round temps around 100F. I have high hopes for these, as being easy to hand wash, quick drying, wicking sweat, providing sunblock without applying any, and meeting my outdoor style. The only thing that would make these better is if there was also Insect Blocker in the fabric. I also think it would be cool if the 2 cargo pockets were reversed (zipper pocket on the right, and velcro pocket on the left), but it is not a big deal or inconvenience in any way. I also think a future modification would be to make these with a Snap closure as opposed to the Button, for some reason I just think it would be better that way. Also the included belt is a nice touch, it IS removable and is not sewn into the shorts like I have heard some people say. Needless to say, I like that they come in the 12" inseam too. I don't like my shorts too long or too short, these sit right at the bottom of the knee cap. These do not weigh much at all, which is one thing I look for in backpacking clothes, or when being TSA baggage weight conscious, they fold up quite small too, so bringing multiple pairs will not be an issue. These will pair up great with the many Silver Ridge Shirts I own too. Great job Columbia on these, keep experimenting with color options, and continue to make future versions of these cooler! Will buy more! January 12, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Shrinkage These shrunk from 38" to 37" waist size after washing in cold water. Sent back a larger size thinking the next size down would work perfectly. Didn't happen! Should have kept the larger size. November 20, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Silver Ridge The Silver Ridge Cargo shorts fit well and are quite comfortable on those long hikes, however the quality and functionality is far inferior to Columbia's previous hiking shorts. *The cargo pockets do not expand. *Security pocket (only One) is on the left side making it more difficult to open and use for right handed folks like me and the other 85% of the population. *There are no pull tabs on the zippers heads thereby drastically reducing their functionality. *Zippers require two hands for opening and closing as where previous models could be worked efficiently with one hand. *The elastic on the waist line is minimal. *The belt loops are okay for Levis but not nearly wide enough for hiking shorts. Such a design flaw eventually allows the belt to ride up against the flesh. *The Velcro tabs on the front pockets are minimal and as a result require too much attention to secure while on the move. I would rather pay half again as much and get a great pair of hiking shorts as Columbia once produced... especially when you consider they are going to be with you for many years in the future. Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent utility shorts Great comfort with reliable construction September 11, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bring back the Front Security Zipper Pocket I have worn these for several years now - on the 2014 version Columbia eliminated the extra zipper security pocket on the right side and added a zipper to the existing left front cargo pocket. The former shorts actually had a "double" side pocket, the zipper allowed you to secure keys or money clip etc. with no fear of losing them whether hiking or on an airplane. Also the items rode on the side of the leg, whereas if you are hiking anything in the front cargo zipper pocket bangs on your leg. I guess this was a move to save money. This is the one reason I buy Columbia over Under Armor, North Face etc. - I liked the security of the zipper side pocket. I hope for 2015 they will bring this back. September 1, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Small Pockets Great shorts for quality and I love having cargo pockets. However, the normal pockets seem a bit small and I had the tendency to have gear slide out of the pockets. Overall great shorts, but I would caution anyone that works around water to use the cargo pockets and not the regular ones just to be sure that nothing goes for a swim by accident. August 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love 'em I am a big guy at 6'3" and 235 lbs. Size 40 fits perfect throughout. Love the comfort for walking on the beach or just hanging out. Buying more as soon as I get to the store. July 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Love the short, light and well fit for climbing. June 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid Cargo Shorts After using the Silver Ridge Cargo Pants, I decided to try the shorts. They perform well for me in a variety of hot conditions. The thing I like about them is that they're quick drying and the cargo pockets are just the right size where other cargo pockets are either cavernous or not big enough. March 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by http://www.columbia.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Columbia_US-Site/default/Reviews-WriteReview?pid=AM4084&ss=true&email=percybenel%40hotmail.com&mid=e Fit well, excellent look, very confy. March 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Shorts Nice light pair of shorts. Looking forward to wearing them once the weather really begins to warm up here in Arkansas. Like the black belt that comes with, I wear them with other pants/shorts when I don't want a real belt. They fit true, I wear a 30 but got a 32 for fear of them fitting a bit small. Thanks to the partially elasticated waist though I could still wear them without a belt if I really needed to. March 3, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointed From year to year, can't count on size to fit. Changes all the time. Of course styles change, but the cargo pockets the basic water short which have served me years aren't there. January 26, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Too Small Have to return as the size doesn't work. Don't think moving to a larger size will help. Like the quality. January 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great hiking shorts! Excellent mobility and breath ability. They also have a stylish appearance...because we all know hiking is all about how you look...;) January 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great shorts but a little tight in the hips I ordered size 34" waist 12" inseam. The waist itself is correct but the shorts are just a bit too "form fitting" to be super comfortable just below the waist. They are a bit snug in the hips. The fabric is great and is perfect for the humid south florida climate; they dry fast and wick moisture away. If these were a bit more "baggy" they would be the perfect shorts. December 18, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Terrible Sizing As usual, Columbia sizes their clothing much smaller than it actually is. I purchased this in what I thought would fit me just fine. I wear all of my other jeans and shorts in a 33-34 waist and have no problems with other companies' sizing. When I received this short in 34" waist, I couldn't even get it up to my waist. It's like they made this short for a man with a 34" waist, but designed the rest of the short for somebody with a 29" waist. The legs were far to tight to even consider. Once I could actually pull it up to where I could button it, the waist size was correct, but it's far to small in the legs and butt to even be considered comfortable, let alone be used for hiking. December 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect I buy Columbia for the reliability. Got these for my son-in-law because he is a big fisherman. Scored the big points on more than one occasion. Now it's all I get him. I don't normally buy clothing for someone because you never get the size, style, ect. right-but I can never go wrong with these. Great product! December 4, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by So light they could for girls Really disappointed - ultra light weight - almost like chiffon - not for outdoor guys. Worst still I had to pay UPS $10 to return them. October 29, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Be careful of shorts I bought these same shorts in the Outlet stores and they were $5.00 or a little more less in cost, yet you can never find the color even though the outlet store says they will get them…and I made like 7 trips. The two I got online and shipped to me albeit the same shorts had a design difference. The front pockets on the ordered shorts were better and seemed normal whereas the pockets on the Outlet store shorts were shorter and I am now of the belief that the Outlet shorts are a defect and while not being sold as such are actually seconds/defect products. It is also difficult to get them in sizing that this company offers like you can never find the 10 inch length although it is offered. October 26, 2013
