Reviews

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Ultimate ROC Pant I ordered a 36/32 and either the pants I received were mislabeled or these pants fit way to big. It fit more like a 40/34. Other pants I have ordered with 36/32 fit fine? December 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT FOR BUSINESS OR PLEASURE!! I've worn the pants several times and they feel better each time I put them on. Very soft even without placing in the dryer!! They did fit a little long but I had them altered and kept on rolling! They're the kind of britches you can iron and wear to a nice dinner or just leave 'em alone and shoot some doves! At least that's what I did. A really nice pair of pants. October 20, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Snap closuer at Waist I purchased several pair of these pants for work. I cannot keep the snap closure at waist closed. It opens each time I sit down. Very frustrating. September 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Wearing! These pants wear excellent. They are thin and roomy. Very comfortable. The only down size is with the thinner material compared to the ROC pants. I carry two wallets and both wore holes in the back pockets after a year or so. But, that is THE only thing negative I can say. And that is somewhat expected with a light weight material. Rated 1 out of 5 by wrong label I bought this pants size 32x34. When I measured it was 34.5x34. Send it back to exchange, had to pay myself $11 for mailing the returning item. There is no exchange program, so had to by new pair. I am waiting for it now. August 3, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these pants! comfort!!!!! What a pleasure to wear. June 6, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Old style much better Old style ROC pants much better all the way around. Have owned 4 pair and am sad they went backward with the redesign.... May 17, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Worn out after one day of wear Purchased three pairs of these at one time for my husband who walks outdoors monitoring conservation property, but who also has to look neat enough to go into business offices. Unfortunately, after wearing for just one day's wear, I noticed that the crotch of the pants was already wearing and piling badly. I chalked it up to it being just that pair...then the other two proved to have the same wear pattern...again after just one wash. I'm glad these pants weren't any more expensive than they were or I'd be rethinking my favorable opinion of most things Columbia. May 15, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by easy to wear... Comfortable pants! I have them in most every color. Suitable for my casual office environment or on the street. The cell phone pocket is a nice feature. The zipper thigh pocket is a little weird since it positions contents right on your knee. I would like to see a gusseted crotch for greater range of movement but, they are pretty nice as is. All in all these pants are pretty nice. I wear them often... May 6, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Redesign These pants are OK, but the old style (found at the outlet store) are much better. They had a tighter weave, flaps on the back pocket, and were a little "dressier" than the new ones. Right leg pocket is cheaper made on the new style, too. May 5, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great pants, but a little long in the leg... I've worn these twice, and so far so good, but not as good as the Steadfast in the size department. As for the pants themselves, not bad. I live in the tropics, and these are about the lightest cotton canvas one can wear comfortably here. Lots of pocket room, but beware; the right side mid-leg pocket will place whatever you slide in there just above your knee. May 4, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bad button design These pants are great except for one horrible problem the button will unbutton unless you wear a belt all the time very annoying but skip that fact and I have no issues light weight is great for summer time wear when I want something cooler than jeans or the original roc pants I wear. April 29, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Needs better durability I really like that the pants look business casual yet still have thick belt loops and all of the pockets that these pants have. I wear a hand gun, cuffs, a badge, credentials, an extra magazine, and a phone every day as part of the job so it is very handy to have all of the pockets. I also like how comfortable the pants are. Unfortunately, however, the material is not as durable as I would like it to be. I have have had a small tear just above one of the back pockets from carrying too much weight (my wallet). I would like to see columbia sacrifice some level of comfort for better durability while maintaining a look which can be passed off as business casual. April 29, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Extreme conditions I am a newspaper reporter and part-time teacher. I bought two pairs of Ultimate ROC pants to wear while teaching a college class. Last night our class was interrupted by a tornado warning after which I returned to work and was assigned to go back out and photograph storm damage. After hours of splashing through puddles and pouring rain, I returned to the office and found my pants had repelled most of the water and my feet were dry (thanks to waterproof hiking boots). The Omni-Shield Advanced repellency really works even after a couple of washes. These pants look nice enough for business casual and can hold up in extreme conditions. April 26, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Men's ROC P:ant While I believe these are a pretty well made product, I am not happy at all with the fit. The waist runs at least 1-2 inches larger than stated while the hip and thigh area are tighter than they should be. The inseam seems OK but with the waist so large it is difficult to find where they should ride to fit OK. I like the fabric quite well along with the pockets and other features. I don't know if I would be able to recommend this product to others like I would with the other Columbia products I have purchased. Somewhat disappointed. April 15, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Relaxed and Comfortable These pants were just as I expected from seeing them in stores ... light and comfortable. I read a review which stated they ran long in the inseam and they probably do slightly. I've enjoyed wearing Columbia for years and am sure these pants won't disappoint. April 10, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice pants they run large These are great pants but run at least 1/2 size large. April 4, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Pants These are some of the most comfortable pants. I ussually wear shorts all the time just because of comfort. I give nothing up in comfort when I wear these. March 17, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ultimata ROC Pant Great fit - Great pants March 10, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Feels gOOd I currently own 2 pair of the same size same color and at least one pair another color in this type of Columbia pant. I wear them everyday whether I am at work or not. I am tempted to buy a few more today. That is why I am on the website. March 9, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome product! I have always worn the original ROC pant for many years, but I have started wearing these and haven't looked back. The material is super soft yet very durable. This is a great pant! March 7, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Loose back pockets I do like these pants, but I thought the original ROC pant was better. The back pockets are super loose. I like the way the pant is longer and the bottom falls over my shoes. The side zipper pocket puts my wallet right on my knee. February 4, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not what I expected! The cut wasn't the best for a man my size and the material felt cheap. I returned them. February 1, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Pants I was hesitant at first to buy these pants because of the price and some of the other reviews, but I bought 2 pairs right before christmas and am very glad I did. I didn't realize this at first, but these pants are very water resistant. Not to say you wont get wet, but for an example, We just had a freak snow storm in SC twice since christmas and I rolled around in the snow for about an hour each time and the sweats I was wearing underneath for insulation never got wet. January 11, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Comfortable, nice, but so long for length Great comfort. Solid colors and feel. But just wanted to warn anyone that you should go down a size for inseam. I wear a 32/30 in every pair of pants. I got a 32/30 here and they are so long. I measured the inseam at 31" but it feels more like a 32" when compared with any other pants. Hey Columbia, what's going on here? Why can't your 30" inseam match the rest of the industry? And for me, a average 5'9 male, you don't have any pants shorter than your 30" inseam which is still 2" too long for me. January 9, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Use to LOVE...butt I used to LOVE these pants. I purchased these pants about a month ago from a local outdoor sports store. I wore then about 3-5 days a week for work. When I say "work", I'm not talking about something physical, but mostly sitting in a car, sitting talking to people, and sitting in an office. Within a month, the seat on these pants split horizontally. If they were a poor fit, I would expect the split to happen vertically. As it is the rip looks like the pants have been shredded and it follows the fabric texture. Hope you see the pun in the title. January 1, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love these pants I was a bit hesitant to order pants online but so glad I did get a couple pairs of these. I own the original ROC pants and rarely wear them since they just don't feel as good as some of the other pants I own. Up until now my REI slickrock pant were my favorite. These Ultimate ROCs feel tough. THey have very comfortable stitching on the pockets which makes you want to have your hands in your pockets all day. The snap is a welcome feature for anyone who looses sewn-on buttons like I do. Belt loops are super durable. Attractive embroidery on the rear. Feel tough and look good and are my new favorite. Cons are the cell phone pocket is not large enough for smart phones. December 30, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by These pants "rock"! I purchased these for fishing and found that they not only wore great but looked great too. I've worn them in fishing shows and seminars then jumped in the boat and "taken them fishing". Great pants...plain and simple! December 15, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Pants I love these pants! They are so comfortable. I originally went into the Columbia store to get different pants, which were no longer offered. These were recommended by the salesman. I tried them on and immediately loved them. They were so much more comfortable than any other pants I had been trying on (different brands). I bought them before a business trip to Asia. Good thing I was wearing them on the plane because turbulence made my cup of Sprite slide off my tray table and into my lap. The Sprite beaded off the pants very well. They would have been completely dry had I been able to get out of the pool of Sprite in my seat quicker. The pants dried off quickly and my flight was comfortable. When I got home, I bought a second pair (different color) without having to think about it. I definitely recommend them to everyone. December 13, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by My Favorite Pants These pants are very comfortable. I like a thin, pliant fabric, and these pants meet that requirement. They ran a size or two large on me, in both length and width. December 2, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Most comfortable pants I own! Read the reviews and picked up a 30" inseam instead of the 32" I usually wear, and these fit great! The fabric is a little on the thin side for a chilly day, but it is also what gives it the incredible "pajama pant" feel that another reviewer described, without lacking any of the durability you would expect. These pants have proven themselves very versitle - I have worn them for both active outside activities and dressed up at the office. I will definately be picking up several other colors. November 28, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Feels like PJs I bought one pair at the Columbia store and liked them so much that I ordered another. The pair that came in the mail had a terrible chemical smell to them that, luckily, went away with one washing. Some others have complained about the snap, but I have no complaints since I wear a belt and it's never unsnapped on its own. These are very comfortable pants, although they run a little bit large compared to Levi's jeans, and the pockets are plentiful and smart but not bulky. I've finally learned to keep my wallet in the zippered right leg pocket and my back side feel great now. Sometimes I need to look down and make sure I'm not wearing pajama bottoms, though, because they really are that comfortable! November 21, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by No exaggeration: My most comfortable pants I bought a pair of these in a store and then came back and bought two more pair online. They are stylish and incredibly comfortable. The fabric is soft and breaths well. I'm about to do some traveling that will involve some 12-hour flights. These are the pants I'll be wearing. November 8, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Pants, But Watch the Length These are as comfortable and good looking as I hoped. Good for outdoors and also for a casual day at the office. Love the little side pocket. Fits my phone perfectly. Only negative is the length. It is not true to size--way too long. I've worn a 34 inseam all my life--this version of 34 hangs far and drags the ground. I've read this in other reviews and wonder if the designers have a reason for this? November 8, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by comfortable These are the most comfortable pants I have. Fit is excellent and the cut is unique. I actually bought 2 pair. October 29, 2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great pants, terrible fastener While the pants are great, the fastener at the waist is incredibly frustrating and rarely stays closed. If you're walking on stable, flat ground, it may work, but for a more active pant, that's not always the case. Even with a belt cinching it, it often fails. The fit is nice, the material is comfortable, and they perform admirably in wind and rain. If they used an actual button, they'd be my favorite pants. October 20, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Pants! Ultimate Roc Pants are great! Very comfortable fabric, not to thick, not to thin. Waist size is true to fit but the length is about two inches long. At 6'3" I usually wear a 34" inseam but I think I will need a 32" for future orders. Not a big problem but keep it in mind when ordering. As a professional guide, quality and fit are very important to me and these paints certainly deliver. Will definitely be ordering many more pairs in all colors! October 6, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by As Advertised Stain resistant, you bet. I wear my 'ROCs to work and I end up on my hand and knees as often as standing. The pants come out of the washer looking new. October 1, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Versatile and light Sharp looking pants that are a bit bulky but comfortable. They ran long and needed alteration, but not a huge deal. Very versatile with right-sided zipper-enclosed security pocket just above the knee. They work well as travel pants where comfort and style along with security are needed. August 31, 2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by Happy, but.... I like the overall feel and look, but the pants run very long. I had to return to get a shorter size. Keep this in mind when ordering to avoid having to pay double shipping by having to re-order. August 17, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great travel pants I bought two pair for a two week trip to Italy in August. They were super comfortable. I like the zip pocket in the leg as my wallet felt more secure there. I was able to tolerate the heat and cool weather. They run a bit long but shrunk a little in a hot dryer. August 17, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid Nomadic Wear Pants fit perfect. Light and airy, but still keeps cold out. Durable and recently got caught in a rain storm, the water beaded up rather than soaking up and they dried fast. Great Pants for all purpose. August 16, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Take everything you liked about the ROC and take it to the next level. Made from even more comfortable fabric that's still durable. The Omni-Shield water and stain repellency is not a gimmick. Also has fewer wrinkles than the old ROC, but unfortunately not wrinkle-free. July 16, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by ultimate Roc Pant Just received my pants. They are super comfortable but size 32 is more like a 35. I have heard that manufacturers have made sizes to make fat people fell less so and guess this is an example. going to order a 30 but at 5'9 and 160 the way these are suspect I might need a 28 that is not made.
