Men’s Widgeon™ Wader Shell is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 56.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Widgeon shell I work as a fishing guide in the boundary waters so good rain gear is essential. This is a nice jacket for warm weather hunting, I just wore it for duck opener 2017 and it seems well built and performed well in the rain. I like the sealed seams/zipper and lined handwarmer pockets. This is probably going to be my main raincoat for cold weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I ordered this jacket and I am very happy with it. It seems to fit a little bigger to size than other coats I have. Great jacket. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3rd purchase Excellent innovations made over the years. I have had 3 generations of this product and its probably the best layered system ever built. I'd like to see the internal breast pocket brought back and the chest hand warmer pockets. New water proof and breath ability are vastly improved. Still waiting on the turbo liner for the new shell to come into stock. Its getting late in the season. Please consider selling the turbo liner and shell together again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive Shell First off, there are a couple things I want to point as selling points on this shell: 1. Because it is made with the more durable and rubbery feeling Outdry, the Max5 cammo looks High Definition quality on the material. Very vivid colors, and incredible definition. 2. Omni-Heat is one of the greatest technologies in the industry right now. Look up tutorials on how to layer. This is a shell, so you will need some layer underneath. 3. If you don't want to layer, you can purchase any of Columbia's interchange compatible layers... because this shell is interchange compatible, which is a great selling point. 4. The detached hood makes this ideal for heavy rain, and also wearing lanyards if you plan on using this for duck hunting or with a pair of waders for fly fishing. Some other notable features - I was worried that the fabric would be to loud for big game. It is a little noisy, but I would not let it deter you. Unless you plan on moving around a lot in your stand or blind, the noise factor shouldn't be an issue. As far as warmth - the Omni-heat is great at trapping heat and not causing sweating, but again, I recommend layering underneath - as this is just a shell. Runs large so that you can layer underneath, or purchase the 800 fill down cammo interchange jacket for this shell. One more thing - the shell is also very durable feeling. I wouldn't be worried about snagging and tearing the material. It fells super tough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coat for duck hunting My husband is 6'1 and about 210lbs, he was going to get XL but is happy with the large. The arm length is perfect, usually coats are short on him. He likes that the body isn't too long so that it won't dip in the water when he is wearing his waders. The only downside is that the inside of the coat is a flashy silver which if opened the ducks would see, so he will need to keep it zipped up. That might be something to alter in the future versions of this coat. Over all, very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality gear Shell is oversized to accommodate layering. I usually get a large, but switched to a medium for a better fit. Insert the turbo liner and you've got a super warm setup without too much bulk... Pockets unsnap to extend out making it easy to grab shells with light gloves on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Widgeon Wader Shell Many improvements since the first Widgeon Parka I purchased in the early (80's?) The left breast sipper closure pocket, shell holders in pockets with bottoms, pocket drains and side pockets, hood fit with built-in tighteners and adequate visor, light, water and windproof with reflective lining and sealed seams in and out. I used the jacket this winter in an open motor boat on lower coastal rivers of southern Oregon. Without a liner, the jacket fit fine for on and off over a life vest to shield from cold winds and rain showers. One change to make--leave 1/2 inch of bare material on sleeve cuff adjusters to grab with cold fingers!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Omni-Heat Technology and Tape Seams I purchased the Bottomland Widgeon Wader Shell for duck hunting as an alternative to another well-known brand coat that I have, which is heavier with a built in liner. The Widgeon is similar in fit to the older Widgeon that I had, BUT is lighter. The drawbacks that I found are the the Omni-Heat coating on the interior of the coat and the tape seams. For instance, the tape seams are perfect in function, but Columbia chose to use a black tape seam for some reason, rather than the brown seam used for the zipper which blends in with the coat so well. The black tape seam results in black "racing stripes" on the sides and back of the coat (these are not shown in any of the photos on the website). The other drawback is the reflective, metallic Omni-Heat interior. On a sunny day of duck hunting, this results in a flash from the coat if it's left unzipped, which goes against its intended purpose. I've resorted to using the coat only while zipped to reduce the exposure of the interior to sunlight. The coat, itself, is a great fit and weight, but these two cosmetic fixes would make the coat much better. Despite my opinion of this particular coat, I still support Columbia, and you cannot beat the limited lifetime warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Ordered initially a large but when I received it, it wore like a blanket, way to big. Returned it and ordered a medium and it fit good. It is thin and light weight. However, I recommend the liner which is a great compliment to this jacket in cold weather. The technology will only work if you one is creating heat, movement etc. But just sitting in a tree stand or duck blind, you need liner or a several layers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Notch HOOD and Shell Pockets I love this jacket. I have several other brand hunting jackets and I like those but when it is raining or fowl weather I always go with this one. The hood keeps your head perfectly dry and with the liner jacket and a omni heat quarter zip I'm actually a little toasty. The shell pockets hold a full box of shells. The only thing I would change which I haven't tried the new model would be the hand warmer pockets are kind of small and I have small hands. I love how this jacket fits over waders. Must get if you duck hunt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great wading jacket for fly fishing News flash, this isn't just a waterfowl hunting rain jacket. This is a great foul weather Jacket for fly fishing. It is a great value priced considerably less than the high end fishing outfitters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WATERPROOF This is my 2nd wader widgeon jacket. The first one I purchased in 2011, it had shell holders on the front... please bring those back! I have had all the high end $300 plus waterfowl jackets, however this jacket (shell) is the only one that has always been waterproof, even in the worst storms! They run a little large I'm 6'0 190lbs and I wear a size L, keep in mind it's a shell and meant to be used with their liner or layering clothes. Recommendations for Columbia: bring back the pull out shell holders on the front. Make the chest pocket fully waterproof, meaning on the inside of the jacket as well. Put a couple waterproof pockets on the inside of the jacket (none)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all season hunting jacket This jacket was worth every penny. I actually bought 2 of them. It's lightweight and breathable for those early season hunts, but designed to be worn with layers to keep your comfortable even on the coldest mornings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Timber Jacket This jacket works great in the timber and the slightly larger fit allows me to wear some warmer cloths in cold weather. I use it only when it's raining and it's kept me dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great waterproof outer garment. My primary interest for this was as a shell over my liner in cold weather and outer wear in fluctuating weather conditions. It is warm, good quality and true to fit over a liner. By itself it is slightly oversized. I have a lot of good results with Max5 as well as Max4. I purchased it with the short version Widgeon Shell. Both garments have Omni Heat and it works well in the field. I chose the short model because I either wear Waders or Bibs in cold weather. Water fowling runs from September through March with a number of of weather challenges. Well made with plenty of pockets and a built in cap style hood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waterfowl gear Between friends and family we have eight of these and by far the best waterfowl jackets we own. We have had them out in driving rain, sleet and snow, temperatures down to -15 and have stayed perfectly warm and dry. Was real happy that Columbia brought them back, only wished they still had the shotshell tubes like last years model. Would buy these again...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket I duck hunted with this jacket 11-28-15 in the pouring rain and was dry after the hunt. My 3 friends whom all had a different brand of jacket were wet. The built in cap feature is very nice and was something I wasn't expecting. It runs a little large in size but I think that is to accommodate for the liner/coat system you can zip into or out of. I purchases this in bottomlands because I duck hunt timber most of the time and will also use it for deer hunting on rainy days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My New "Go To" Jacket I had some initial concerns about potential noise from the fairly stiff exterior fabric but those were eliminated during my first hunting trip. I combined the shell with a Widgeon bib purchased last year and the combination is dry and quiet. Eliminating the shotgun shell tubes on the outside of the coat and replacing them with shell holders in the cargo pockets has made this coat suitable for big game as well as waterfowl hunting. Making the liner jacket optional means that I can use some of the other liners I have accumulated over the years. The addition of YKK zippers has eliminated one of the only weak spots in previous editions of the jacket. And I particularly like the Mossy Oak Bottomlands pattern. It works well in a variety of situations. The jacket could benefit from a couple of inside pockets. It looks like this shell will be my new "go to" jacket from now on.
Date published: 2015-10-08
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very short This jacket is exactly what the reviews say. It is made for the outside of your waders and it is very very short. I am at 5 foot 11 inches about 165 pounds and wear size medium, which is what I bought. The sleeves were perfect length with plenty of space underneath for multiple layers. However, when it says it is made short... It was made very short. With my arms straight down the bottom of the jacket was level with the top of my belt; when I raised my arms it raised to my belly button. Granted this jacket was made for waders, I would also like to use this jacket without waders. I tried while fishing and it was entirely too uncomfortable having to keep pulling the jacket down to my belt. If you are worried about the quality of this jacket, you do not have to worry, but if you are skeptical of the length I probably would look for a different style.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket! Absolutely love this jacket! keeps you warm and dry no matter the conditions. The shell tubes and the shell holders are a great addition and allows you to carry nearly a box of shells on your person if needed when you start tossing them in all the additional pockets. I've recommended this coat to several other duck hunters and 5 of us now own this coat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Price I love the product. A bit more expensive than others. But I got 3 of them! Removable hood a big thing for me. Love the hood when I need it! I'd buy another when I need. I have 2 XL and a L. All fit me fine at 180 lbs and 6 ft tall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastically Functional I purchased the Wader Widgeon II last fall, just in time for waterfowl season. I paired this with a pair of Columbia 5mm neoprene waders and went on a several hunts in Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas. This jacket is surprisingly lightweight and yet extremely warm. With this system, I could wear a columbia fleece pullover and this jacket, that kept me warm all season long. The pockets and shell holders worked superbly and I couldn't have asked for a better product. My only complaint, The jacket is not made in the vintage bottomland camo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hunting jacket I bought this jacket at the begining of this last duck hunting season (sept. 2013) and it has been great. Very warm, lots of pockets, and it has a high waist/bottom of the jacket, which is very nice when you are out in the ponds, setting/retrieving decoys. It also has room for sixteen 12 gauge or 20 gauge rounds, plus seven pockets. Lots of storage room. It is the exact same pattern as my chest waders, and blends nicely to the Pacific NW foliage. All around great jacket. Worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A few changes Hand warmer pockets could be a quarter larger, Zipper pull could be larger for old and cold hands. Overall pleased with jacket.. Really waterproof. For the price it should have come with a liner..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very lite but also very warm The fisrst impresson was that i thought it was awful lite to be wearing in the duck bllind but after puting on the coat the warmth just fills your body, very impresive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Nice A quality jacket from Columbia. The size fits me perfectly. If I could change 2 things it would be to make the shell holder removable (since I really don't use it) and to make the hand warmer pockets larger to fit bigger hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Men’s Wader Widgeon™ II I love my new Wader Widgeon II, and used it for the first time last weekend to go Duck hunting. It was below freezing, and the Wader Widgeon kept me warm, even after sitting in the blind for many hours with very little movement. I have to admit that when it came in the mail, I was a little surprised as to how light it was, and was afraid that it would not keep me warm. However, I was very pleasantly surprised, and would highly recommend this jacket to anyone that needs a light weight jacket that can be tucked into their waders.
Date published: 2013-12-21
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Design flaws The jacket appears to be performing well but there are a few design flaws. First the hand warmer pocket entrances are very small. My hands have to enter the pocket with some force. The main zipper is very small in design. This is hard to thread and use in the dark, cold and with gloves on. The durability of the main zipper is suspect but so far so good. The interior head band application does not work well while wearing a baseball cap or stocking cap. I had to cut the band inside to make it work. Fits great when wearing no headwear but most hunters always wear caps of some kind?? The shiny reflective interior is a warm idea but when you get warm and open the jacket you are wearing a tin foil flag for ducks to see. Cool idea but poor application for a hunting jacket. Some sort of wrist-let that would keep water from entering the sleeve would be good. Most all jackets in this application have wristlets? Most all of the comparable brands and models come with the liner. Buying the liner separate puts this jacket in the sky high price range. So far the jacket is ok but several design flaws that would have been caught buy a actual duck hunter could have made the coat perform at its price point. Though I am a long time user and supporter of Columbia this jacket did not meet my expectations of Columbia's product design and application. I will still purchase Columbia products I just cant endorse this one. Sad in SW Washington

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Great jacket. This shell alone is pretty warm, but excellent when paired with the zip in jacket. It's fit a little small, I almost returned it for a medium, but when wearing chest waiters the jacket is great. No regrets would buy again. Lowest temperature I have been in yet was 29 degrees, I have no concerns about lower temperatures. I'm about 5ft 8. 165lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Although on the pricey side, this jacket is well worth it considering that I'll never have to buy another waterfowling jacket again in my life. Super cool design throughout, and the elastic in the hood is the greatest thing in the world!
Date published: 2013-10-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very functional jacket The integrated shell holders are a great feature. The hood fits well and allows movement without obstructing vision. Just the jacket I was after.
Date published: 2013-05-16
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Waterfowl Shell This is a very well-designed waterfowl shell. It's fairly warm by itself due to the Omni-Heat thermal reflective interior, but it also readily fits another layer under it (even zipped in interchange-style, if you prefer). The quick-load shell tubes come with 12 and 20 ga. adaptors, which is a nice feature. The shorter waist is well-suited to going over chest-waders, but isn't awkwardly short by itself over regular pants. There are lots and lots of pockets for calls, shells, extra layers, gloves, wallet and keys, etc. The hood design is great, with a tight-to-the-head fit, and various adjustments so you don't loose the peripheral vision that is so critical to seeing waterfowl approaching your blind. It's just a great outer layer for waterfowling in wet weather!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great product. It preforms like it should. Wow. Its warm, fits great and is waterproof. I have long been a fan of Columbia all the way back the Quad Parka days. Keep up the good quality work. Thanks for keeping me warm and dry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very nice jacket To be honest, I have little experience with hunting clothing. I am new to the sport and still trying to figure things out. I chose this jacket because I wanted something versatile (big game, waterfowl, upland bird) and I wanted the camo print to not be too obnoxious. I appreciate the matching bibs, but have not had an opportunity to wear them yet. The chest ammo tubes are great. My friend laughed when he saw them, but stopped when he saw how well they worked with gloves. The elastic waist is tough - I would prefer the adjustability of draw cords - especially when pairing the Jacket with a pair of waders. The jacket can ride up and stay up. There is a pattern area of abrasion resistant coating on the right shoulder - maybe it is a rough spot to help seat the gun stock? Either way, great idea, but wrong shoulder. Not everyone is right handed. (You can send me a left handed model and I will return the gently used right hand model ASAP!). Two trips on the Columbia River, sub-freezing (but dry), and I stayed toasty warm. Even better, I took my first duck. I think this jacket will work out quite well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Jacket This shell jacket is great. It retains an amazing amount of heat for being so light weight. Also this jacket moves with you, it doesn't fight you when shouldering a shotgun. So far I've been able to find uses for all the pockets the jacket has. I'm not a hood wearer, but this jacket has changed that, the hood wears amazingly close to a ball cap. The speed loader shell tubes on the jacket are very handy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A guy who likes to hunt Bought this jacket because I needed a new shell for wet weather waterfowl hunting. The very first time I used it I knew it was the best jacket I have ever had. When the rain started to come down sideways I put the hood on and I instantly warmed up with the great wind and rain proof qualties of this jacket. It was so cold my hands were freezing and I started to use the hand pockets. At first I though they were small and hard to get my hands in. But then as the wind picked up even more my hands were out of the elements and easily slid out of the pockets. The only downside of this jacket is for the pricetag it should come with the zip in liners as the previous models have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Great jacket, very waterproof and great when the weather is less than ideal. With the jacket on I went into the river up to my neck and thought my day of hunting was over, however barely any water got into my waders, which really impressed me. Functionally, it is really lightweight while still being warm and does not obstruct gun pull up. Great jacket I would highly recommend it. I usually run between a M and L depending on fit and in this case the M fits perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps you warm and dry with lots of pocket space Bought this coat to match my Waders in the Mossy Oak Breakup. I am pleased with the design and function of the coat. The quick reloading tubes are very convient when reloading with gloves. The winter hunts can be cold here in Utah but the omni-heat keeps you warm with just a base layer and a t-shirt underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Jacket First wearing was in the rain and sleet. Jacket performed superbly. I stayed warm and dry. All the items in the jacket pockets remained dry. I loved the warmth without bulk. When, I pair this jacket with the half zip, I can forget about the weather and focus on the hunt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dry and warm Great Jacket material allows for some stretch for good fit. Only con is you can't get your hands in the pockets with gloves on and without its still tight. All around great jacket. If your really going to hunt or be moving there is no reason not to buy over any other jacket.
