I wish it fit me better

I like everything about the jacket except the fit. I usually wear a size medium and occasionally a size small. I ordered a medium and was disappointed when I put it on and it was snug thru the chest area. I thought about returning it for a large, but then the sleeves and other parts of the jacket would be too big.

fit

I ordered a size larger than what the chart indicated. I am so glad I did. The sleeves are a little long and I have long arms BUT I will not be able to wear much more than long underwear and a long sleeved tee under it. A sweatshirt will make it too tight. OBTW - If you order online, you will suddenly get columbia advertisements everywhere on IE and Crome.

One problem that Columbia fixed quickly

This is a warm and comfortable jacket that I bought for skiing. I like the bright color, many pockets, cooling features, reflective insulation and removeable hood. However, after the first day on the slopes I noticed the seam on one arm coming apart. Not sure if it was like that originally and I just didn't notice or if it actually started coming apart after one day of skiing. Columbia stands by their workmanship and sent me a new one since they were not in the store anymore when I went back to get a repair or replacement. The store clerks were helpful and friendly. Products are generally excellent and even with the small seam opening the jacket was nice and toasty warm.

There are shortcomings....

This jacket IS warm and the inner coat is cute. Here are my buts: 1. I am 5'6, small-busted, and slim. I ordered both a M and a L. I ended up going w/ the large, but now I even regret that - I cannot hardly get any layers under this coat bc it is so snug. 2. The sleeves are long and the inner cuff is very, very tight. I can't get mittens under the outer coat, and it is hard to have them over the sleeves because the length pushes the mittens down. 3. I have worn it about 5 times and the fabric on the edges of the cuffs is already fuzzy. I bought it bc we had a ski trip approaching. I am trying to decide if I should keep it just for skiing with only base layers underneath - or order a MENs coat so that I have room underneath for everyday use. I am not getting daily use out of it right now bc I live in ND and it's too cold to only wear only t-shirts daily.

Great for winter activities

Good fit, comfortable to wear, nice features and functions great. The Fuse Green color is nice and bright so you can be seen on the slopes or in the woods. Wore the first time on a very chilly evening that transitioned from snow to sleet to freezing rain, the jacket shed the water and kept me dry and comfortable. Very happy!

Great, multipurpose 3-in-1 jacket

LOVE this jacket. Got it a few weeks ago and have been using it almost every day! A little about me: athletic, 5'7", busty, ~140 -- generally a cold person, living in the great lakes region. Used the entire jacket for Cross Country skiing with great success, love the under-arm zippers. Used the inner portion when running outside in 19 degree (F) temps - awesome again.. I was almost too warm underneath because i wore my traditional 2 long sleeve shirts... after this I only used 1 thin layer. Have been using the outer shell the past few days as the temps have been higher but more rain and wind. It's been working great! The other feature i really like is the whole loops for your thumbs on the inner jacket. Great for keeping the cold out!

whirlibird jacket

Very nice jacket. Very warm. It is the "active" fit which is more close fitted than I normally like a jacket. If you want something more roomie I suggest getting a size up from your normal size or getting a jacket that is "modern" fit

Great Ski Jacket

I am a petite girl (5'3, 100lbs) and I get really cold very easily. I wanted to try skiing/snowboarding for the first time, but didn't want to go unprepared and definitely didn't want to wear something that did not fit me properly. After spending 4 hours in the snow on the coldest day this winter, I can honestly say, this jacket kept me warm, fit amazingly well (you couldn't tell I was wearing snow-ware at all!), and had such useful pockets and utilities that Im still learning how to use. Despite not being a natural born skiier, I would be down to try it again knowing that this gear adequately prepared me!

Loved this coat

This lived up to all expectations about keeping one warm! I ski'd in 13 below temps and just wore the long underwear under the coat. Beware - this coat does run small! I normally wear medium's but my experience with Columbia products is that they tend to run small.

Warm and Versatile!

This is my second interchange coat from Columbia and it is amazing. I attend grad school in Boston, MA and have to walk to and from the subway almost everyday. With the windchill, it was -12 degrees this morning. Wearing this coat, the only thing that was cold were my legs. I agree with a previous reviewer that the hood could definitely be more substantial and that's why I rated the coat as a 4. Not only is the hood not adequate enough to resist strong winds, but the elastics that tighten it on either side are all but useless. However, when I get to school I can take it apart, store the outer jacket in my locker and wear the liner in chilly classrooms. Overall, a great buy!

Omni-heat pills/ruins nice sweaters!

The only reason why I am giving this coat 3 stars and not 5 is because the Omni-heat liner on the (removable) inside/insert of the coat pills sweaters to oblivion. And when I say that it pills them, I mean you take off your jacket and your sweater is pretty much ruined. It must have something to do with the reflective properties of the omni-heat technology? As a result, I HIGHLY suggest buying a super cheap zip-up sweater/hoodie to wear between your sweaters and the jacket if you're pairing the coat with any sort of cashmere, wool, or thick cotton. For me this solved the problem, but it does make the omni-heat less effective... Other than that I have absolutely no problems with this coat. It's very warm when all 'put together' (and I live in IL, so that says something!) And I like that the insert looks/functions like a coat on its' own (with a hoodie underneath for sweater protection). Just wearing the insert was alright as a jacket until it got below 30 degrees F! That rocked. So really, my one/only complaint is the effect of the omni-heat on my wardrobe. It sounds petty, but it really is annoying. Other than that one design flaw, it's a great coat that I highly recommend!

LOVE this jacket!!

This is a GREAT jacket!!! With my tall and thin frame, it's hard to find jackets that don't look bulky or have too short of sleeves. This jacket is roomy enough for a sweater and the sleeves are perfect! Great overall length too. I've been wearing it for about 2 weeks in snowy weather (about 10 to 30 degrees) and it's more than warm enough! Love, love, love it!! Seriously, it's a warm, stylish and awesome jacket. I only wish there was another interior pocket in the inner jacket.

Made for women

One of the reasons why I like Columbia sportswear is that I have a very womanly shape with wide hips. I have real difficulty finding ski-jackets that fit without me having to leave the bottom part unzipped! This jacket is true to Columbia form in that it fits very well and is also very flattering. I am an average size 14 and bought the large jacket which fits snug but still comfortable. Very happy with it though the colour looks brighter than I expected (more fluro than mellow-yellow). Still, it will go well with my grey ski-pants. Can't wait to take it to the snow!

My third Columbia jacket, going on 30 years...

After I ordered this jacket, I realized that my last two jackets had also been Columbias and that each had lasted me about 10 years. The last jacket was still in great shape when I gave it to my student, a newly arrived refugee from Burma. It was November and she had no idea what was in store in the form of a cold, Northeast winter. Although the jacket was a small, it was really big for her but I felt good knowing it was of great quality and still had much life left in it. I have always tried to get the most bang for my buck and I've come to realize it pays to spend a little extra for high quality. So it's no mistake that I am on my third Columbia jacket. This particular jacket -- the women's Whirlibird Interchange, solid black outer shell and white-gray inner liner -- is one I'm delighted to know I will be wearing for the next decade or so. The moment I put it on, the fit was unquestionably perfect for me. Snug but with ample room for movement. I've shoveled snow and been in the hilly woods on snow shoes wearing this jacket and I feel like my range of motion is never compromised. What it offers, that my previous jackets had not, is a length that covers my backside and doesn't ride up when I slide into the car seat. My waist feels nicely protected from drafts. This jacket is two-in-one (or three-in-one, really) but it's been too cold to wear either of them seperately yet. I look forward to wearing the white inner jacket on its own - it is very striking and lightweight. There are plenty of pockets and draw-strings -- great attention to detail. The metallic "space-age" material on the inside of the liner has generated a lot of interest in those who are standing by when I put it on. I tell them how truly warm it makes me and how much I love wearing this jacket. I'm a walking advertisement!

Amazing!!

I live in Wisconsin and am used to being in extremely cold weather, but with this jacket, I hardly notice the cold! I can wear the liner jacket in very low temperatures and still be comfortable. The outer shell is perfect for skiing and windy days , the wind can't seem to cut through the jacket. I would HIGHLY recommend this product!! (and it looks great too!!)

whirlbird interchange

The jacket is very warm and made well but the fit is terrible. It is an active fit so it runs very small I usually were large and I had to buy a 1x to get it to fit and even then it is not the most comfortable jacket. I would not buy this jacket again my old columbia was much better.

Warmth, Functionaltity and Fun!

I Love, Love, Love this coat! I am chronically cold even with layering so I thought I would give the Omni-Heat technology a try. The negative temperatures in Vail,CO were no match for this coat! I was warm from lifts to slopes. The color is great too. My husband was able to spot me easily on our downhill runs and in the crowds of the Apres ski. I read others reviews before buying this coat and most said it was sized small. Based on the reviews I bought a Medium but found it to be a bit large in the body and arms for my athletic build. I am 5'5 1/2 and 117lbs. However, if Medium was all I could buy, I would buy it again to have this coat. Thank you Columbia for bringing the fun back to my outdoor winter activites!

Best Coat Ever

I purchased this coat for my girlfriends birthday. Shes been needing a good coat for quite some time now and I figured I'd give Columbia a chance from all of the good reviews regarding this product. I was nervous about the size because majority of customers say that the coat runs small. My girl is a large so I went with her size and when she tried it on it fit perfect. She did say that under the armpit it was tight but we unzipped it for better breathability and it then fitted perfect. She loves it and is ready for what winter throws in her direction. High made quality and I think she'll have this coat for a long time.

Great Jacket

I purchased this coat for my granddaughter. She wears a small, however I know she does a lot of layering and I ordered a Medium and she love's it. She had it on the other night and was layered underneath and said she was too warm. I bought this for her to wear in Canada in February and feel is was a great choice. This is a 17 year old who never likes a jacket and she is wearing it all the time. It looks very stylish and I love how versatile it is. I ordered the red one and am extremely pleased.

Fantastic

I love this jacket. I wanted the blue one, but the store was out so I bought the red instead. I think I like this color better than the blue. It is great to wear separate or all together. I live in Maine and with the current cold streak, I have stayed perfectly warm when I go outside. There are no words to describe how much I love the OmniHeat. This jacket looks great with almost everything. 7/8 pockets in the jacket are zippered and I love that fact. I just have a hard time keeping the white clean and remembering which pocket something is in.

Excellent Coat!!

This is the perfect combination! The inner coat is perfect for those cold days and the outer coat is perfect for the damp dreary days, together the coat can handle any type of weather condiotion. Very comfortable and light, if ordering from Columbia direct I would suggest to find a dealer and try one on, I had to go onesize larger as the fit was just a little snug.

Excellent jacket! 2 in one!

I LOVE this jacket. Just got it for Christmas and went to a cabin in the snow. It's great to have 2 full jackets in one. The fit is perfect. I'm a woman 5'10", and usually jackets have sleeves that are too short, but this is just right. It has all the details you could want. Outer is waterproof and comfy. Inner jacket is super cozy and strong material -- seems to be rip-proof. The only thing is that I need to reinforce the hand/thumb loop thingy, but that's not a big deal. Highly recommend! Also, my wife and I both got this jacket -- she got red and I got black. We were concerned that they would look too much the same, but it doesn't look at all like we're wearing the same jacket.

Perfect for a Texas new to Missouri weather

I am 5'8" and about 135 and the small fit great for me. Very flattering to women's body with both layers. I love the interchange option and would equate the under layer to feel light like a sweater but much warmer. Why not lost the bulk?? Even with both layer, this things is light but still warm. Missouri has been a lot like Texas in the often quick changing temperatures, so this coat has been great. I recommend this to any girl who wants a warm and light coat for all occasions. My sister also has one too :)

Great so far

Got this for my daughter going off to college in a windy, cold region. She loves jacket, the fit, the style. Says it's very warm and comfortable without too much bulk. She is quite tall and the arms are nice and long. She loves the thumb holes, which are there if you want to use them and not noticeable if you don't. The insulating material inside the inner jacket reflects heat and she said she can 'feel the warmth'. All around, very pleased. The only reason for not giving 5 stars/bars on each area is she has not had it long enough to test it out in different weather situations or to know how it will hold up. So far, it's great.

XL Red Whirlibird Woman's Coat

XL Ladies Whirlibird (Red). This coat felt nice and warm, love the pockets nice size. Coat size is fit to wear. A bit snug for me, I like my coat loose so I can wear layers if needed. I changed it to a Men's Whirlibird (Black) XL OMG what a fit. This new whirlibird men's coat fits much much better. Its also a little longer, love those pockets. Delivery ordered Saturday here on Monday. The best part of all no hassles if something goes wrong or you don't like it. They return your funds. In addition, lifetime warranty. I have an older Columbia jacket its about 14 or 16 years old my zipper got stuck they going to check it out for me. Wow what great customer service. You Won't Regret This Jacket

This is by far the best jacket I have ever owned. There's 3 waterproof zippers on the exterior on BOTH layers. There's an adjustable hood on how far down you want it to fall on your forehead and how tight/loose the circumference of the hood is around your face. The hood detaches with a zipper. The omni heat technology WILL keep you toasty warm. I'm the girl that always gets cold easily but there is no way I can wear this jacket inside for too long because I will actually start sweating by just sitting there and wearing it for a while. That omni heat really will keep you warmer and warmer the longer you wear it it seems. There's zippers for underarm venting. There's an adjustable waist line, there's really soft material around the wrists that include thumb holes, there's adjustable wrist cuffs, there's a very generous sized "goggle" pocket on the inside of just the shell layer. I honestly can't say anything bad about this jacket. You will love it so please take my word and buy it. Its alot of money yes and money's not too easy to come by but I promise it is soooo worth it cause this jacket does its job and WILL keep you protected from extreme weather. I don't care who you are I guarantee it!

Color not represented in photo

I bought this coat loving the combination of bright red and yellow shown in the picture. The color red is great, but the inner shell is not yellow, it is white!!! The zipper is not yellow, it is white.....I am very disappointed in this, as I am not a person who likes white as a color to wear and keep clean. I love the coat, although it does fit smaller than an XL.... I am very sad and dissapointed about the misrepresentation of the color, I will be returning it for that reason alone. I tried to upload photos to make my point for this review, but it didn't let me.

Great Jacket but a Little Small

I am a size 10 and ordered the medium in this jacket. Either the jacket runs very small or I run big ;) Returned the jacket for a large. The sleeves are long which I adore! I do wish, however, that the jacket was overall a little longer in the torso. This jacket will definitely hold up to the long Minnesotan winters!

No need to layer

I live in Texas, but went to an indoor ice display where the temperature was 9 degrees. We were in there for awhile, and I did not layer - just a long sleeve t-shirt. I stayed nice and toasty warm. Granted there wasn't wind, but many people around me wearing the "parkas" the company supplied were cold. I am also happy with the quality, and the easy way the jacket cleans up. It looks good on me too, and isn't boxy like I thought it would be. It is long enough for me, being 5'10. I think the color is more vibrant than pictured- I always get compliments on it

Very Warm

I'm cold all the time and needed a jacket I could use for the majority of winter to keep me very warm. I wanted an everyday winter coat. That's what I got. I wore it to a football game and it was raining and the coat kept me dry too. My three complaints about the jacket - I bought the black plaid one and it's not black - it's more of a dark green color. The inside looks even more green than the outside. Also the hood, while waterproof, is very thin and could easily be stored inside the coat collar while not in use however this is not an option. I wish they would have made that an option. Also - the inside layer that is removable and can be worn as it's own lighter jacket - it has it's own zipper that zips into the shell so it fits a fair amount smaller than the shell does.

Small

My wife received her jacket yesterday and it is being returned today. Not because it is no good, but because it is smaller than expected. In all her other coats, she wears a medium and this fits like a small. So, being returned for a larger size. The liner itself is a little small while the outer portion fits just fine by itself and is overall small when put together. She loves how warm it is though and can see no other problem with it. Wish they had FREE returns!

Whirlibird goodness

Color is shown as slightly darker online than I recieved but that is OK, except I have dogs and kids so I will be having to wash it ALOT. Fits a little small, had to go up a size to a Large so that I could move my arms and wear heavier clothes under it. Wish it was slightly warmer but will be perfect if you are doing something active (not sitting) out in the cold. Would not recommend for under 10 degrees. If you are active and get 'dirty' outside, don't get the sea salt color! Other than that, great coat! Would buy again

Warm and waterproof (and looks great too)

I ordered the black plaid jacket, and I love it. I've already worn it in a cold rainstorm and it kept me warm and dry. I'll note that the color of the jacket isn't pure black - it has a subtle blue-green hue (and accents) and the plaid is also very subtle...but I like that about it. I'm 5'6"/120# and tend to layer a lot, and the medium fits great over a hooded sweatshirt.

AMAZING!!!

I am a 120 pound New Yorker who is always cold. During the winter, I am always wearing tons of layers to stay warm. My best friend suggested that I try one of these coats since she loves hers. I ordered a medium, just in case I need to put a sweater on. I am shocked at how warm this coat keeps me. I can throw this on over a long-sleeved shirt and be warm in 30 degree weather. I love all of the pockets and that I do not need a different coat for all the outdoor activities I do. There are so many amazing features, like the venting under the arms, that make it worth the price. I do wish there was a bottom zipper for when I am sitting. Otherwise, I am very happy with my purchase. I am currently waiting for my omni-heat gloves and hat to come in so I have a matching set.

Pockets are misplaced but overall great jacket

THe only reason I don't give this jacket the 5th star is because most of the functional pockets are on the shell, so they are inaccessible when the jacket is used with the liner. Other than that, this is a really warm and comfy jacket.

Women's Whirlibird Jacket

This jacket fits true to size, but is too snug under the arms. This limits the amount of layering one might consider under the jacket and makes it a bit uncomfortable at first. The arms are long, but personally think that is a good feature. Also it does not have a bottom zip for when one is sitting, which would be a nice additional feature. Overall the materials seem of great quality and it has many excellent features which made it worth keeping. The omni-heat really does work as stated and I hope the waterproofing holds true as well. For a casual jacket, it has smart styling that adds to its versatility.

Nice and Warm

Love this coat for those extra chilly days here in Colorado. It's a bit heavy but when it's only 15 degrees, I'm not complaining. As always, having the choice between two jackets is great for our always changing weather. Use both for extra cold days or skiing or just where the liner for not as cold days. Great choices, good construction.

Perfection!

I'm a grad student living on loans, so keep that in mind when I say...it's EXPENSIVE. No lie there, you'll pay a pretty penny. Now onto the fine points: it's worth it! I was looking for a jacket that would 1. serve as a weather-proof barrier between me and the elements, 2. be easy to clean and last a long time, and 3. look great. I'm a student, and in the winter time I'm always freezing. This coat is an excellent choice, because I can wear both the liner and shell into the school, but leave the shell in my locker and just wear the liner to class. The omni-heat lining is amazing, where I used to have to layer on a ton of tops to keep warm, I can throw on a t-shirt and the liner and stay warm all day. It looks great on, too. It's form fitting, and runs a tiny bit small, but I say that because I'm used to jackets that fit an undershirt, t-shirt, and a hoodie underneath. Honestly, you won't need all those layers with this bad boy :) It's easy to wash, just wash on a light cycle and dry in dryer for about 20 minutes. Also, take the shell and liner apart. That makes the drying time shorter. Also, I'm an hourglass figure, and sometimes, finding a jacket in the right length and fit is tough. Trust me, you'll want to wear the liner everywhere, because it looks great. The liner and shell look good together, but the liner looks super awesome with a pair of jeans. PLUS, the thumb holes keep cold air from entering your sleeve. It makes a world of difference. Awesome, awesome, awesome! A family member recommended Columbia's Omni-heat line (her jacket is a few years old and still looks brand new) and I'm so glad she did. I'm thrilled with this jacket!

I got the coat for my mother. We got it in an XL because she is tall. The coat works great and it is a pretty good fit. It stands up well to Chicago weather, I can currently getting myself one as well.

Very impressed

I purchased this jacket for my "always cold" wife. When we received the garment in the mail I looked over the coat for a good ten minutes. I am, after all self professed gear snob. Very impressed! Columbia's attention to quality and detail is impressive and I will be spending more money with them. It states in the writing guidelines to "avoid writing about customer service." But, I have to tell you my experience with Columbia customer service was great!

Favoite Jacket

I love this jacket! I have only been able to use it in the rain but I cannot wait for cooler temps and a xmas ski trip! I got the white plaid color and get many compliments on it. I cannot wait to try out the Omi-heat on the inner jacket. I am always cold so hopefully it works.

Love this jacket

I went to purchase in the employee store and they didn't have my size available. I ordered online and within 3 business days my jacket arrived. It fits great. Always recommend Columbia jackets to anyone.
