Wheather proof, warm but not hot, and very flattering

Overall I'm so very pleased with this purchase. I'm 5' 8" and about 140 lb and size M fits very nicely. It leaves room for layering, and the waist is quite loose, but still the cut is so nice that it looks very flattering (normally size M in Columbia is way too big for me from the waist, but otherwise almost short...). The length of the sleeves is perfect for actually moving(!): lifting your kid and biking... So far it has proven to be water resistant, and also very easy to clean from sand and dust. Material feels good, and yes, the zip is super tight, but many water proof zips are, and it has been functioning well (I like that it works both ends). I haven't been using the jacket during real winter time, but for cold spring winds it's perfect and it feels quite same whether it is cold or warm outside so it also breaths well. Btw, I ordered color Collegiate Navy and it was exactly as pictured, light blue-gray background with navy plaid.I'm giving 4/5 cause the zip could be easier and the waist line could be little bit mote tight, but I'm rarely as happy about my purchases that I'm with this.

Dusk2Dawn

I don't know why they call this coat navy because it's a purple coat, no navy at all. I usually wear a size 6 and bought the medium. It seems to fit fine except the sleeves are very long. It's a very warm coat but very light weight. I would recommend this coat to anyone.

Love it

I am very pleased to have purchased this product. I just received it but have gotten compliments already. It kept me warm and dry during 30 degree temperatures. It fits a little snug but comfortable.

Fashionable Simple Rain jacket

A simple jacket for chilly days, It has some type of thermal heat trapping layer inside, but it isn't too bulky or removable. The jacket is thin and stiff material, not too cuddly, but good for getting through the windy day! Wish they sold a fashionable matching cap!

great except zipper

Attractive jacket. Good in the rain of course! The zipper is small and very stiff. Hard to get the zipper to move!

no bulk jacket with great long sleeves

perfect for a day of going inside and outside. keeps me warm in Michigan winter down to the 20s but not warm enough to walk the dog in 10 degree weather. I've worn it to the movies and was warm enough to walk into the theater at 18 degrees, yet cool enough to keep it on during the movie (loosened sleeves and unzipped). I guess that means it breathes well. I keep a silk scarf with it to wrap my neck under the jacket. I also like layering it with a hoodie and having a double hood over my head. The hood snorkels a bit when zipped all the way (a feature I will appreciate in the rain). When zipped just to the neck the hood is a bit large and droops over my eyes. It's too fussy to push it back only to have it fall forward again so I often wear the hood like a giant turtle neck. I may try folding it under like the sleeves. The sleeves are indeed long. They cover the palms of my hands. If I want them shorter I roll them under (not over like cuffs) or push them up. Most of the time I like them covering my hands. I bought size XL. My clothing size is 18. Fits fine. It is form fitting not baggy. I zip up from the bottom when I drive to keep it from tugging. I expect it to be more layer-able as I continue to lose weight.

Excellent travel coat

I find this coat to be an excellent choice when I travel for business. It is smart enough to be acceptable for use as an overcoat, and I used it for my jacket when wearing casual clothing for weekend or evening outings. The reflective coating kept me warm for winter travel, and it was very packable because it's not a bulky coat. It is waterproof (important to someone who lives in Seattle!) The arms are very long (a feature I like) and it is slim fitting, so not forgiving or as adaptable as a trench coat, but the high tech features of warmth and waterproof win my vote of approval!

Does run true to size.

After reading the reviews stating that the jacket ran a little small, I ordered a large. I am usually a medium, so I thought the large would fit well. However, the large was way too big. I had to send it back. The sleeves are long, but I like that because most sleeves are short on me.

Love this jacket -

Love this jacket. It's the best fabric and length. Perfect for our Seattle weather! Only reason for the 4 stars is that is that I would've loved it in just plain black.... and it's seems a big tighter than my other Columbia jackets.. although it's stretchy fabric!

Warm, dry and a bit dressy in the Pacific Northwest

I bought this jacket last month in the "black plaid" (which is really a light gray). I liked the "collegiate navy," which is a pale blue with navy windowpane plaid, but I couldn't get the zipper to work, even after trying on multiple different jackets. I rate it a "bit" small in the shoulders. I normally wear a 6 or small in Columbia Sportswear, but purchased a medium for this jacket. I LOVE the long sleeves! I'm 5'9" and often sleeves are too short. Also, even if you're not as tall as I am, the extra length allows you to snap the cuff OVER your gloves or mitts, and keep your wrists dry and warm. I also like the slightly longer car coat-style length, as it looks a bit dressier. If there were a way to adjust the back of the hood to make it a bit smaller, it would be perfect. I'm very happy--even my husband thinks it's cute!

cold girl all the time!

Living in Oregon we get a lot of rainy, cold days. I just bought this coat this winter and LOVE it!! It is perfect because you can layer it with sweaters and still look stylish. If is figure faltering either way. I normally would buy a small, but after reading the other reviews I stepped up and size and it is great! You want to have room for layering.

Perfect Rain Jacket

Bought the grey one in small size. Fits me perfectly. It keeps me warm in cool temps like spring/autumn and definitely ultra dry. Perfect for West Coast weather like Vancouver! I don't mind the sleeves are a bit longer as I like to keep my hands covered. I've received numerous compliments on how nice it fits me.

Good, not excellent

This item has pros and cons about it. Pros: Good quality, love the new omni heat and omni shield; fits true to size EXCEPT for the super long sleeve length; the definite con. Some have said their zipper sticks, mine did not. Overall, a nice rain coat too keep you warm.

This is a beautiful coat.

I can never wait to put it on. To be both waterproof and the 'omni heat' feature make this an incredibly flattering coat--no bulk and gives you a tiny waist. All my friends want it!

Awesome Jacket except for the zipper.

I purchased this jacket for my wife. We live in Ohio, so on any day it could rain/sleet/hail etc. She says it is very comfortable, waterproof and light weight, but still very warm even when it's below freezing and wet (She is one of those people who cannot stand being cold). She is tall and thin (she's 6'0" - 130#), but she finally has a jacket with arms long enough (even on a medium)! The only downside is that she seems to have a lot of trouble getting the zipper started. I try to help, but making "suggestions" when someone is struggling with a zipper is not always well received.

Perfect for travel!

I purchased this jacket to wear on a trip to London. It was stylish, yet practical. The hood and length of jacket kept me dry while walking in rainy weather. Zip pockets are great for keeping contents safe. Main zipper would stick occasionally, but I did not consider it an inconvenience. The media pocket worked well to store passport and wallet. Reflective lining allowed for some warmth without too much bulk. I wear size Small shirts, but ordered a Medium jacket so I could wear layers/sweaters underneath. The fabric didn't show wrinkles after being pulled out of a carry-on bag. This jacket is perfect for traveling!

Beautiful color!

Ordered the Dusk2Dawn jacket in XL, Eclipse Blue Plaid. It is a very light and warm jacket; but, it runs small in the shoulders and bust so I had to send it back.

Color was misrepresented

I'm sure this is a great coat. I returned it immediately after receiving it in the mail because the "Eclipse BLUE Plaid" was actually completely and totally PURPLE. & purple is not for me.

The perfect coat

I love this jacket for its weatherproof exterior, warm Omni-heat lining, zippered pockets, 3/4 length and style. It has everything you need in a cute winter coat - including a hood! While the color as advertised is navy, the coat I received after ordering online is closer to a twilight purple. It's not navy. A friend of mine has this coat in navy and the two coats are entirely different colors. I'm happy with the shade - just noting it in case color variation is a deal breaker. I normally wear a 4-6 jacket or shirt which I think would be a small - but this coat is somewhat fitted so a medium was the right size.

Nicely tailored coat

The fabric is a little stiff but should soften up with wear. The Eclipse Blue Plaid looks more purple than blue to me but it is a nice change from all my other black coats.

Functional & Stylish, Great Cut

I am 5'3" and 120 lbs. The Medium fit me perfectly and has enough room for me to wear a winter sweater comfortably under the jacket. The jacket is functional for the cold and wet Pacific Northwest winter yet stylish at the same time. The Eclipse Blue Plaid is closer to purple than blue in my opinion but it fit so well that I decided the jacket was keeper!

Nice coat, long sleeves, but way too tight in the hips

I am 5'11" and the sleeves fit me perfectly. I didn't keep it because (1) it is way too tight in the hips/butt (real women have curves!) and (2) the zipper was impossible to zip.

Fashion and Function

This is a great jacket for it's looks and purpose. It's definitely waterproof and also offers a special built-in lining for insulation. My only suggestion to consider is regarding size. I'm typically a small but I bought a medium. The small was a bit too fitting and I couldn't wear a light sweater underneath. I think it's because it's tapered at the waist. Anyway, the medium allows a bit more room for versatility with clothes and works great. I'm 5' 5" 135lbs.

Great Jacket!

I have this in grey. It fits pretty true to size. I'm 5'6", 130lbs and I bought the small. It keeps me decently warm and I think it's a good autumn/spring season jacket. Sleeves are a bit long, but I don't mind. I've received numerous compliments and everyone is always where I bought this jacket. Can't go wrong!

Cute and Functional

Great jacket. The flattering A-line style is perfect for casual or dress. The darker color make it look a bit more dressy. Having a hood is great for a sudden downpour! The only thing about this jacket that is not perfect is that the sleeve length is quite long.

Best raincoat ever.

I love this coat. We live in Portland, and it seems like the other reviewers from Portland said the same. I never fail to get a compliment when I am wearing it- people always seem jealous that they don't have one. I don't think it runs small, infact, I tend to buy larger coats just to have more room, but I bought this in a medium which is probably my usual size, and it fits perfectly. (5'5" and 137#) I couldn't remember if the sleeves were too long, so I just went to go try it on. Yes, the sleeves are long- but I've had this coat for nearly a year, and I had to go verify that, so obviously it's not a problem. In fact, it keeps my hands dry and warm; absolutely not an issue. It is FITTED, but has great lines and is absolutely waterproof. I love it. It dresses up well. I've lived in the Midwest and suffered through many winters there- it is not warm enough for that, but it's perfect for Portland.

Love this jacket!

I LOVE this jacket! it is stylish, yet practical. I love the fact that the sleeves are very long; I am 5'6.5" tall, and have had a difficult time finding coats with sleeves that are long enough. The only criticism I have is that this coat runs small. The waist area is somewhat fitted, and while I normally would get a large, ( which I initially ordered and had to return), I had to get an XL. the zipper is a little hard to pull up, but I think that is due to it being waterproof. This is not a heavy winter jacket; more of fall/spring raincoat.

Wisconsin Commuter

Bought this jacket for everyday use for my commute to and from work in Wisconsin. So far, it's been about 50 degrees outside and the jacket has kept me warm when I have a long sleeved shirt on underneath. The quality of materials is superb. My only grumbles are that the zipper can be a bit sticky (because it is lined with wet suit like material) and the sleeves could be a tad shorter. Overall, I love the functionality and the A-Line shape of this jacket.

Great Jacket

Stylish and very functional. The length worried me at first as if I wouldn't be able to bend down or squat to get at my children's level to assist them, but it has great stretch in it.

Ideal for Wet Weather

I am extremely pleased with this coat. The deep adjustable hood and the length were big selling points for me. The fabric is lovely, and of course repels water as advertised. I wanted to clarify a few things from previous reviews for those who like to shop online (like I do). As mentioned already, this is an ideal coat for the Pacific Northwest, and I will get three seasons of wear out of it. It is functional enough for walking the dog in a downpour, and looks sharp enough to wear as a dress coat. I do not think it would be a good winter coat in a colder climate. The zipper is very stiff (as mentioned) but I remedied that with a little face powder on the catch (or parafin or whatever trick you prefer would work). It DOES zip from the bottom as well. It is true that the sleeves are long, but have snap adjustments so that they don't hang over your hands if you don't want them to. If you want a sleeve that ends at the wrist, you will likely not like this. Personally I prefer very long sleeves that go over the tops of my hands, so this was perfect for protecting my clothes. Finally, I was a bit concerned after reading reviews that I would not be able to wear it over a winter sweater. I ordered medium (I am 5'8", 135 lbs, and I am not very curvy), and it fits beautifully even over my heaviest sweater. That said, it is a fitted coat, and not designed to layer a bunch of fleeces or sweaters under (which I guess is what others were attempting to do), but it should fit fine over your regular clothing.

Best coat ever

I walk 3 miles to work daily and I live in snow country. I wanted a coat that was both stylish and functional. This coat is gorgeous and weather resistant. The black plaid is stylish and sophistocated and the omni heat keeps me warm and dry without the need of extra clothing. I like the fit, roomy enough but still slimming. and the longer length is perfect as a townie coat. I wouldnt mind another inner pocket. but the one I do have fits my iPod nicely.

All columbia products are the best quality out there, UNSURPASSED. This coat is top quality and very functional. Gorgeous design. I just did not want to return it but I had estimates done to have the sleeves hemmed and it was not worth it to me. I LOVE THIS COAT. The sleeves were exceptionally long but I think the quality of Columbia is unsurpassed.

sleeves too long

this coat was made of lovely fabric, pattern, function - but I showed it to several people around my same size and we all agreed that the SLEEVES ARE EXTRAORDINARILY LONG, LONG, LONG. way out of proportion for my long arms. had to return the coat. return service in the store was very good. While in the store, I tried on the other color - same sleeve cut. another product purchased for my daughter in a different size also had long sleeves. not sure how you think average people are built!

Love it, but a few quirks

LOVE this jacket overall. I have it in black plaid. So cute on: looks great with just about everything. Blocks the wind and rain nicely. Cleans easily. Folds up and unfolds nicely for packing for a trip. VERY nice that it has a hood! Perfect for temps between 35 (with a sweater underneath) and 60 - a nice range for Portland fall/winter/spring. Quirks: The sleeves are really long. And because of the shiny interior, you can't fold them back. I'm going to have to get it tailored. Also, the zipper is hard to operate. I returned the first one I bought because I thought the zipper was broken. After two wears with the new one, I found it had the same quirk. I think it's a product of the plastic zipper.

not warm enough for a cold winter

I get compliments on this coat all the time -- it looks great on. I like the longer length (hits at mid-thigh) and the dark plaid is subtle and stylish. This was my first purchase of Omni Heat, and I must admit I am disappointed. I thought it would be warm enough for the full-on winter, but I don’t think it will. I live in Virginia, so it doesn’t get too cold here, but it definitely gets cold enough! It is, however, perfect for the rain. PROS: Stylish, waterproof CONS: Sleeves a little too long, zipper hard to get up, not suitable for very cold days

It's great but not for a Chicago winter

This coat runs a little small in the hips. It has no lining other then the omni heat liner. If you are a warm person your own body heat might be enough I need more then this coat provides. I assumed at 225.00 it would be a winter coat. I was able to go to the Columbia store and find the perfect coat for me instead.

Love this Jacket

I purchased this jacket about a week ago and I get compliments every time I wear it. The jacket is fitted and flattering but I don't think I could fit a bulky sweater underneath it. I ordered a small and am 5'8" and 125 lbs. The sleeves are a little on the long side. Other than that, I love it.

Dusk2Dawn Jacket A Winner

Great looking jacket with Omni Heat plus a hood! Bought it in the navy plaid which is more subtle than the white/black. Cuffs are adjustable so you can fit them around the wrist. Hood doesn't puff out the back and lies flat against the coat.
