Excellent outerwear for moderately cold temps

excellent jacket; comfortable and well made. Can be worn in weather to 30 degrees, but really not warm enough for colder weather. fits true to size and the color selection is excellent.

Great fit, not good for windy areas

First, I'm 5'10'' , have a short torso but long arms. Great fit for me. I can see the length of the jacket being a little small for others since it ends just below the belt line on me. Length in sleeves is perfect. I have the Red, which is a not a bright red but a darker red just like the color on the webpage. Cons, wish it was more wind resistant. Wind seems to pass right through. Great for days where it can be a little chilly but still comfortable to wear if temperature rises in the 70's.

Color is off!

I was expecting the color to be red. Like your basic red. Maybe a little darker than basic red. But red, nonetheless. It's more like a dark, dirty, brown/red. Really unattractive. Does not match the color of previous red Columbia jackets I have purchased - not even close.

Good looking jacket

I bought this for my husband. He doesn't like big bulky jackets, and this one is wonderful. It looks great on, and keeps him warm. This jacket has style to go with a pair of levis, to kahkis. He loves it!

Great Jacket. Perfect for 40 degrees and above

I am 6 FT, 220lbs. 36" Waist 44" Chest. I got the XXl only because the XL felt a bit small. Great quality, Great construction. Gets the job done easily during a long trek through the Hill Country ;-)

Great jacket

Love this jacket because it is warm and not bulky at all. Arms seem a little extra long but other than that a good fit.

Great jacket

Ascender™ II Softshell jacket is perfect to keep you warm while providing excellent freedom of movement. The chest pocket is perfect to keep valuables at the ready without worring about losing them. The size is true to fit and the jacket is a bit longer than I wanted but still a great value for the money.

Tusk is tan, not white or off white

I already owned a black one of these and love it and I wanted a white one. I saw the "tusk" color online, which looked very close to white. When it came to my house, it was tan/light brown - nowhere near white. It depends on your computer because I pulled it up on my smartphone and it did look tan there. Both of my laptops that I own showed it as being very close to white. The quality of this coat is awesome, I absolutely love it. Also, it runs a bit small. I usually wear a medium but for this coat, I wear a large and it fits pretty good. Just might want to keep that in mind.

Disappointed

After reading the reviews, I was really excited to get this jacket. But once I put it on, I found that it ran quite small. I'm 6'2" and the bottom of the jacket fell at my belt line, which just looks silly. I have never had this problem with other Columbia jackets that I own so I don't know if this was cut incorrectly or perhaps it's just designed to be a "shortie". Definitely will be returning it to a store so I can try on the next one.

Love it!

I bought this for my son for Christmas. He opened it early and looks and feels great in it. It is lightweight but warm, keeping the wind and rain out. The lining is soft and durable and will accommodate many different types of weather due to its flexibility (comfort, warmth, lightweight, etc.) It is his go-to jacket and works with any attire. It will continue to serve him well for years to come because of the good constuction, and I won't worry about him in college next year. Thanks for this all-around great jacket!

Great jacket but........

should include strip of material inside zipper as wind goes right through. Only complaint, but again wind goes through zipper area

Solid jacket

I like the simple look and feel of this jacket. It's a good all around go-to garment, though not adequate for deep winter, or would require layering. My only complaint is the velcro tabs on the sleeve stick out a bit too much, which a) looks goofy and b) gets caught on things. But this has been a standard problem i've had with other jackets like this with adjustable sleeves.

Ascender™ II

Very nice jacket. Love to wear this in mild weather with thin short sleeve golf shirt for the office, range, golfing. I normally wear L shirts for extra shoulder room but M in this is a perfert fit for shirt and under tee shirt.

Size is odd !!!

Sleeves are toooooo long. I am 6'2" and large size jacket had sleeves 2 inch longer than normal running to the middle of my palms. OK, so I excahged for medium size. Sleeves are OK now, but rest of the softshell jacket is too small. Size is odd. Customer service is excelet !!

Great Product

This is just the right amount of insulation and protection for hiking in cooler weather. Where a standard fleece would be good, this add wind protection for better temp control. Great jacket that's going to stay in my day pack for hikes.

Recommend with one RESERVATION.

The color I chose, called metal, was shown as a grey which made sense with the metallic grey garment show in the pictures. Alas, it is not at all gray. It is a light green, I would say and not easy to,match to many wardrobe choices. Disappointed.

Great jacket - color different

Overall, a great jacket - warm and windproof. The interior is soft and very fleece-like (almost plush-feeling), and the exterior seems very durable and abrasion resistant. However, the "Varsity Grey" shown online is a couple shades darker than the one I received. If you order this color, just know it's much lighter and closer to the "Tusk" in-terms of shading. It's still a good looking grey, just don't be surprised if you order it.

Awesome

This thing is quite comfy. It has kept me warm down into the 40s while sitting around. The jacket blocks wind like a softshell should, and the drawcord hem helps seal out drafts. It seems very well-made, and should last for years to come

Fabric: perfect 'breathe'... perfect wind resistance...

The fabric in the ASCENDER II is excellent... great 'breathe'... perfect wind resistance... I ride bike/mtn bike in it... good fit, but the sleeves are a bit snug... more volume in the sleeves would help shoulder/arm mobility, since the fabric is a little stiffer than standard fleece... excellent collar... cinch at the hem makes a custom fit... my favorite light jacket...

Excellent

My 17 year old son won't take this off! It is his favorite Christmas gift. Thank gosh, because he hates wearing jackets and would otherwise freeze. It's not too bulky or showy. Keeps him warm and looks great. Not for extreme cold weather, but keeps the wind and cold out.

Nice Jacket

Looks and feels very good, high-quality. Sleeves run slightly long (which I actually kind of like) and the body feels a bit short, some shirts will stick out a little underneath. Water beads off, and jacket provides sufficient warmth (40 degree weather). All in all a great jacket.

Nice product

Nice product. I have both the green and grey version of the jacket. Resist some rain and helps knock off the cold winter wind. This jacket is perfect for those cool 30 degree mornings.

Nice Jacket

Have worn this jacket twice. First time was in the December rain in Ohio, and it worked great. I am a tall woman who ordered the men's XL in hopes of layering over a fleece, but it is to tight in the hips to fit over my fleece and strangely a little roomy up top. Am definitely keeping the coat and will continue to enjoy it The color was great and thank goodness, not all that sagey.

Good-Looking and Warm

This is my first softshell jacket...and I am very happy with it! The fit is true to size and the inside is just warm enough for mid-to upper 30's (all ive tested it in so far). Got lots of compliments on it, i bought it in the dark green color and the color looks really good!!! The only thing about it is that the sleeves are a little longer for the size, but not too bad where it gets in the way, plus they are adjustable with velcro on the end of the sleeve at the wrist! If on the fence, just get it!

This jacket exceeded my expectations

This is a great jacket for the price. It has quality material and very well made. It is so warm that as soon as I enter a heated stucture, I have to remove it. The only reason that I only gave it a Good grading for function is because it lacks a hood for rainy or snowy days. I'm a corrections officer and the price beats all of the uniform catalogs such as Galls and Quartermaster. The same soft shell for twice their price. Thank You Columbia!!!!!!

Nice mid weight

As a winter Fly Fisherman, I needed a performance jacket that would keep me warm and dry. I shopped around and decided to pair this with the RainTech shell. They work great together. This zips right into RainTech to make a solid waterproof jacket. I slipped into water up to chest at 5:30 am in November in Colorado. Water=40 degrees, air =28 degrees, I stayed dry and warm, so I'm sold.
