Comfortable and keeps you protected from sunlight

The positive thing about these pants is that the convertible feature is great. Now: I should have ordered the size 6 short on this style because the size 8 in "Short" runs a little large on the waist for my measures (I used the size chart as reference). I am petite: 5'2.5 high, 28 (waist) and 38.5 (hips). The "short" style runs a little longer than I thought and they can't be tailored because of the zipper feature at the hem. If only that could be changed, this would be the perfect pant for everyday wear. This could be a challenge if you use them as long pants most of the time (like in my case), but the convertible features make them great for outdoor activities. I like the fact that they protect you very well from the sunlight and extreme heat. That was very important for me too.

Great for hiking or just hanging out

Aug 9, 2010

I originally bought a pair of these in Springdale, Utah, while visiting Zion National Park. I found them to be excellent for hiking Zion. The fabric weight is just right for the desert climate. I also bought a second pair because I find them so extremely comfortable-- enough to wear at home and to work (although the leg zippers look a bit odd at work!). I find the preferable to the ubiquitous jeans seen everywhere. I also appreciate the fact that if the morning is cool but heats up, it's easy to unzip the legs and just wear the shorts. The size seems to run a bit large. I found the twelve slightly too big but the ten too small. I recommend these highly.

Excellent pair of Pant!

Aug 6, 2010

The size 10 fit me perfectly with my waist measured at 34" and hip at 40". However, if I were to purchase this pair of pants base on size chart, I probably would be purchasing Size 14. The reason how I manage to get the correct is that I went to the store to try size 8 and it was a little tight and they ran out of size 10. Thus, I hope that Columbia can improve on their sizing chart. Beside that, the length is also a little long for a regular. I'm at 168cm and the pant ran like 4cm longer than my ankle. I like this pant very much and will consider buying another pair.

Perfect Convertible Pant

Jul 1, 2010

I went on an extensive search before traveling to Peru for the perfect convertible pant and this is it! The fit is great and very flattering and the pant is warm but cool at the same time (if that makes sense). I will be purchasing this pant in another color.

Even the "Short" is long

Jun 23, 2010

I was looking forward to these pants for hiking and fly fishing. Unfortunately even the short length was very long and with the zipper no way to hem them. I also thought the hips were a little tight so the pockets didn't lay flat.

needs tailoring

May 9, 2010

I spent time looking for the right convertible pant for me. I need stretch in my pants because I don't like to be constricted when I'm engaged in activities. I also needed a convertible pant to zip off to long shorts. (I need protection from the sun because I burn very easy.) These looked perfect so I ordered two pair in different colors. I'm disappointed that I will need them tailored to fit me as the waist band has about 5" too much material and gaps in the back. The hips fit great and the legs need hemming. I'm a pear shape size 14-16 and 5'5" tall. I ordered the size 16. I debated returning them but the cloth used to make the pants is so lightweight and soft and the overall design is very attractive and functional so I'm going to keep them instead and just have them fitted to me. Anybody know a good tailor?

I L-O-V-E THESE PANTS

May 4, 2010

I hate being constricted. I hate not having full mobility and flexibility in my legs. I need stretch. And these pants have stretch. And did I mention that they can turn into shorts? Stretch and versatility? That's a 'Check' and a 'Yes please' in my book. I was bouldering with my wallet and my phone tucked away in very nice pockets with total freedom of movement and it was awesome. The fit is quite nice as well. Not too tight, but just right with a straight-cut flattering fit that made me feel practical and sexy at the same time. Needless to say, I bought two in different colors.

Top-noch pant

Apr 1, 2010

My Sliver Ridge convertible pants are just what I was looking for to make my walking/hiking trips easier. I'm 5'3'' and the pant length in size 8 is about 1' too long, but workable. The leg sizing is a little full, but the hips and waist are perfect(I weigh 132).They are a mid-weight pant that work in any weather--especially when they become shorts, too. They pack up without a lot of wrinkles and wash up perfectly even if I have to do them by hand when other washing facilities aren't available. I will be taking them on a hike to Machu Picchu, Peru in June and I figure they will be perfect for the cold nights and warm days. I bought two pair and hope Columbia doesn't discontinue making them if I should want more in the future! Great fit and the zippers and drawstrings on legs and pockets are useful.

Pant legs are about 4 inches too long for me.

Jan 30, 2010

Not sure I will keep them since I would have to shorten them at least 4 inches. I like the fit otherwise and the stretch fabric seems like it would be quite comfortable. Sorry they are not available in short in my size.
