Rated 5 out of 5 by Light weight, Warm & Fashionable My boyfriend purchased this coat for me and bought my normal clothing size, small. It was a little small in the chest/shoulders with a sweater on. So I returned it for a medium and it was great fit. I'm in Michigan and during the single digit temps this coat has kept me really warm and was very comfortable too. I love the belt to add shape to a true winter coat. I love it and so glad I got this gift! January 14, 2017
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love the stylish look...but NOT warm I Live outside of Philly...typically it is 40 degrees in the winter. This coat works well in 40 degrees, especially in the cold rain. I wore it skiing and FROZE. I have bought warm layers and am still cold. Not for skiing or weather under 40! Too bad because it looks so good. I need to buy another coat for skiing. January 13, 2017
Rated 4 out of 5 by SNAPS ON REMOVABLE FUR OFF AFTER 3 WEARS Beautiful Jacket....nice fit...very warm. Only complaint is the snaps on the removable fur portion of jacket were not properly affixed and 3 came off after just 3 wears. Now unable to use the fur. waiting for response from warranty department. Hoping not to have to send the whole jacket back for analysis, as it's needed for winter wearing right now :( January 3, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by Super Warm and comfortable! Super warm! great against the wind, sheds water, keeps you dry and cozy. 4 outside pockets/ 2 zippered and 2 close w/ snaps (snaps are strong), including roomy inside pocket at chest level. Hood stays up. Belted/ belt is appropriate length and easy to use. wind buffer at neck can be closed for extra warmth. Coat covers my upper thighs, Light weight. material on inside keeps you from perspiring if you are exercising/ skiing, etc. zipper works great. zips up, then snaps over zipper. Arrived quickly. Haven't had super cold weather here yet (coldest its been was 22F) but I'm confident it will keep me warm/ dry all winter. Excellent stitching, etc. I think this coat will last for many years/ well made. Black color looks more like a dark gray, but no complaints here =) LOVE THIS COAT! giving away most of my other winter coats. very attractive for my figure, I have an average figure (I'm 50 YO, height 4'11" and weight 122) I bought the same coat/size small for my daughter in mineshaft color which is light gray, it fits her perfectly and she is 5/2, slimmer and fitter than me. Rated 2 out of 5 by Not for extreme cold I bought this parka for urban wear. It has nice styling and is well made, but unfortunately it's apparently designed for very active use. It's warm to about 35 degrees at the level of activity typical for someone getting around in a city. At colder temperatures, it's not warm at all. The sleeves have virtually no insulation, so I feel the cold in my arms no matter what I'm doing. If I'm waiting for a bus or otherwise standing in the cold, my core is freezing, too, even if I'm wearing other insulating layers. There is a very big difference in the type and level of insulation needed for low/moderate activity and active/recreational activity. People experience the cold differently, but I wouldn't recommend this for someone who tends to be cold and isn't going to be generating a lot of heat with activity. Manufacturers need to make this clear in their performance specifications. December 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this coat! I purchased this coat last year at a local retailer. It is awesome! I purchased the flint gray color and it's beautiful and unique. I am someone who is always cold and I wear this in all but the coldest weather (for me, that's 35 degrees and below). This coat isn't bulky but it's warm and for most people, would probably be warm enough for most weather. The pockets are large and can easily fit a phone, keys, smaller wallet, etc. Things work as they should and are where you'd expect them. The coat sheds water, is warm, and looks great. What else could you want? As far as sizing, I am a 4 or 6 on the top (I typically purchase a small) and a 6 on the bottom (5' 5.5"; 130 lbs). I purchased a medium and can fit warm layers under it. I usually just wear a sweatshirt, though. It's slightly roomy but I'd rather have that than have the coat be restricting. So, the general consensus with these reviews that the coat fits slightly small is true for me, too. I don't like things that fit tightly so that might be another reason why I like a slightly looser fit. I love coats and go through them in a few years because I find that after living with them for a while, they aren't as practical as I'd like. This coat I'll have for years! I love it so much that I'm hoping to purchase a longer coat for colder weather (maybe with down, too) and plan to purchase a Columbia product since I love this one so much. December 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by First time purchased I've received this coat as stated on delivery date, and so far, I've been wearing it to wherever I go. The Omni-Heat thermal reflective lining inside is what kept me warm since I'm always in short sleeve because I'm not the sweater type person, I get too hot easily. I love my new coat and hopefully it can last me through many years of winter. December 18, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by This product is ok The coat runs a little small, I tried the Large at the store and it fit a little big, so I order the Medium because they didn't have it at the store n it fits a little small. And as far as the omni heat interior it does not keep you warm. I live in Chicago and it's 7 degrees and the interior feels cold when I'm outside. I wish I would have not bought it and gone for something else. December 14, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not warm I bought a version of this jacket earlier in the year and it has not performed. The jacket is just not very warming at all for colder temperatures. In order for me to be warm I have had to layer it with a puffer vest underneath -- and there is plenty of room to do this. I am 5' 4" and the XS is huge on me. I bought this jacket based on glowing reviews and the idea of being warm here in PDX while I walk my dog in the winter. Nope. I also feel that the pockets are not well placed. I was told in the store to put on the jacket indoors before heading out in order to get the real reflective heat going --which I do, but when I bend over to put on my shoes, my phone and whatever else is in my pocket prevents me from doing so. I guess this jacket is for taller people? I made an amazing discovery the other day that propelled me to write this review. I tried on a puffer jacket from Costco that my daughter owns and was instantly warm. Hmm. It is disappointing that Columbia is unable to live up to this. December 8, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sizing up was a good call After poring through the reviews, I decided to buy a size up. I'm 5'2" and ~125 lbs, normally a size Small in most clothing. However, I carry more weight in my torso and I read others' warnings in the review section, so sizing up was definitely a good call. Product arrived swiftly, and has been doing a good job of keeping me warm in the NC winter....which is relatively mild, but feels chilly to a California native! It fits nicely with plenty of room for layering. Admittedly, it's a little long in the sleeves, but I think it will be less of a problem as the winter gets colder and my layering thickness increases. The double zipper is a little finicky at times, but it hasn't been a huge issue yet. I love the lined pockets and collar! December 8, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pretty happy with it Got this at a sporting goods store on Black Friday, I am about 5'4 size 10, apple shape. The medium was right in the shoulders but too snug in the midsection. Given the belt, I went up to the Large, which fits pretty well, although a little roomy in the shoulders. I suppose this will be of benefit with a heavy sweater. So far, so good -have worn it a few chilly days in NYC. Hood is a good fit and does not block peripheral view. December 4, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Get it on sale I went to the store and tried on almost all of their winter coats, I bought this one. I was really disappointed with their selection as a lot of their coats are bulky and ill fitting, have side pockets in weird places (on the chest?!), and are made with lower quality materials. This coat wasn't much of an exception, it only made the cut because it featured a belt which gave me some shape unlike their other designs. The hood is lined, like almost all of their jackets this year, with a low quality "sherpa" fleece. This material is prone to pilling and coming loose. I took one glance at the hood and I could see patches where it was already falling out. This fabric dirties up over time and looks really disgusting, a very poor design choice on Columbia's part. There's little insulation in the arms as other reviewers have noted, but I found this with all of their jackets. I recommend sizing up if you feel the coat is too tight because you will want to wear sweaters underneath. I found the sizing to be fair, I wear a small-medium and fit the small with a little room to spare (on top of a sweater). The design is probably the nicest out of all the winter coats, you can especially see the difference in person. I have yet to experience real frigid temperatures to test it out but I've heard it's mediocre in terms of function. It's not much different than a coat I purchased elsewhere a few years ago for less money, case in point, buy it on sale! It's not worth full price. November 25, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice coat This coat is very comfortable and fits great. Don't know how warm it is yet because it hasn't been cold yet but it seems like it will be nice and warm. Comes in quite a few colors too. November 23, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Warning if you are 5'7 or taller don't purchase this coat I purchased this coat and returned it, it is a beautiful coat, however it is not made for taller women, if you are my height about 5'7 the belt will fall all the way up under your chest not at your waist like it is suppose to, and when you sit down the coat will slide up and you will notice you have to keep pulling it down when you walk, and if you have a larger size chest then it really will be uncomfortable. I'm just giving my honest opinion beautiful coat but Columbia wasn't thinking about the women who are taller. November 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just what I was looking for! This is a fantastic coat! It keeps you toasty warm on those cold days, without the fluff of a pouf coat, or a hiking/bright colored outdoor coat. I love the casual look, that goes with most of my attire. Also, faux fur! October 26, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice coat but a little too tight I was anxious when I received my package from Columbia to try this coat. Love the color, not as bright as it looked online, and that it is long enough to cover my tush without being a long coat. Unfortunately it is too tight across the chest and upper arm areas for me. Will be returning and trying a different coat. September 28, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Jacket Great jacket. Just wished it offered more colors even though the color I ordered is okay. April 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fashion & Function I've worn it for winter travel all season. Keeps me warm and dry, and cute. I'm 5'9", 170 lbs and the XL feels like it was made just for me. Sleeves are perfect length and it covers my bum. Would be great if the hand warmer pockets were a little deeper. Love this coat! March 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy Customer I love this jacket! I live in Upstate New York and it has kept me warm during this current winter. The length is exactly what I was looking for. I am 5'4" and it sits at about my mid thigh, a little bit above the knee but covers my entire rear which is what I wanted. It is very comfortable. The jacket is not too heavy and does not make me feel like a marsh mellow. The hood is a tad too big, but I have a small head. Overall very pleased with this purchase! February 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product Everything was as described. February 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by stylish and outdoorsy! I am really enjoying this Carson Pass jacket! I have a severe weather parka I wanted something a little lighter. This is it, such a nice mid weight and warmth and that's exactly what I wanted. Not too bulky, keeps me warm, dry, it's wind resistant, and it looks great! Lots of compliments! I am very happy I bought this coat! It's a must to complete your winter wear wardrobe! Yes, I recommend this coat February 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by great features the coat is great. would like that with the money spent that you would get free shipping. January 30, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love it Very warm and love all the pockets. January 28, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great I've loved this coat. It's been perfect for me so far; it's kept me warm (even though we've only had temps down in the teens so far). It's kept me dry in the rain and protected me from wind. It's not too heavy either, which has been great. I'm pretty cold natured, so I've loved having this coat so far this winter season. While the coat runs true to size, I would recommend sizing up to have room for any bulky clothing underneath. If you're like me, you may wear lots of layers. So I got a medium to have room for sweaters or even a lighter jacket under this coat if it gets really cold. January 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love! I love this coat!!!! It keeps me very very warm!! January 25, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love my new Columbia! I just purchased this coat and I'm very happy with it. I am 5'5 129 lbs (slim/muscular build) and the small fits perfect, even with a sweater. I actually tried on a medium, as usually I need a little room when wearing bulkier sweaters, but it felt much too big. I live in Milwaukee, WI and needed something a little warmer after my Old Navy parka, from a year or two ago, didn't cut it during our recent Arctic blast. January 20, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by great styling, armholes too small Really wanted to keep this jacket for a ski trip - had all the features I was looking for. However the armholes are just too small for layering. Going to a bigger size makes the rest too big - looks like a sack that doesn't fit January 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Halliday I love the Carson pass coat because it keeps me warm and I don't need an extra layer under this coat because of the omni heat layer January 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I Love this coat! Just moved to Indiana from Portland, OR and realized none of my casual jackets/coats were going to cut the mustard for the winter temps here. I've owned a Columbia coat of one type or another for 21 years (currently I own five, each with for a different purpose!) and have loved them all. Usually I have to get a Large because I have broad shoulders. Tried this coat on in a L and there was surprisingly more room in the shoulders and body than normal but decided to stay with this size to have room for sweaters. Lots of nice features. Two interior pockets, three exterior pockets, knit cuffs to keep out the cold, berber fleece lined neck and hood, removable fur if you're not into that type of thing. Omni heat in the sleeves too, so you will stay toasty and omni shield which keeps out the wind/precipitation. Two things I don't care for...(1) the belt but it helps to keep the warmth in so buckle up! and (2) the hood is fairly bulky so when I'm driving I feel like I really have to look past my left shoulder farther to make sure I can safely switch lanes. Was able to purchase this on sale so I was thrilled with the price. It's in the low 20s here and I've walked the dog in it a few times and have stayed plenty warm. I'm sure it will perform as the temps lower. Love Columbia, love this coat! January 17, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not good in Alberta cold Love the style of this coat it is very pretty and fits great but it's so cold. It's more of a late fall jacket. Not made for Fort McMurray weather. January 16, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointing warmth This coat did not hold up below 25 degrees F. It was only warm after I layered another whole fleece beneath it! I live in MN and this did not cut it at all for me. It's a cute coat, and I get lots of compliments on the belt, size, and color. Size M for 5'3 135 lbs is perfect. But if you get it expect to have to layer other things beneath...:-/ I wanted a coat I could throw on over regular clothes. This is not even as warm as my wool peacoat! January 14, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Jacket-Be Careful of the size I am 5'5 128 lbs, and have broad shoulders. Based on a few reviews I thought the small would fit me. When I tried it on, the inseam near the armpit was tight and the shoulders were a bit snug. The arm length was perfect and the jacket itself seemed to fit fine except for those two issues. I will be returning this size and I have placed another order for a size medium. Will keep you posted. January 14, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not warm I love the fit of the coat but am very disappointed that this doesn't keep me warm. I live in ND and we have had a very mild winter here so far. Even on days when it has been above 30 degrees my arms become chilly in this coat. Where is the warmth??? I like the coat and unfortunately since you have to wear the coat to know if it performs I cant take it back. January 3, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Color issue The color from the on line screen is not similar the actual goods. The actual goods is like grey not like the screen color "Mineshaft". I'm disappointed the color"Mineshaft". I think it should be more like brown color on goods. December 27, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Stylish but not as warm as I expected I live in central WI and am a person that loves the outdoors but unfortunately gets cold easy. I have always been a lover of down coats but don't like the bulk that comes with them. I figured I'd give this a try since it is so much thinner. I love the way the coat looks but am disappointed in how warm it keeps me. It is very nice for mildly cold weather (25-40 degrees and not a lot of wind) but when it is truly cold I am definitely not warm enough. I think I will go back to a down coat next time. December 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy! Happy! Happy! with my new Columbia Bought the Carson Pass II to replace my 22 year old Columbia!(still in great condition) purchased to endure cold Idaho winters while attending college. So far this coat does not disappoint! Like the sleeves having an inner lining for extra warmth, I am petite and can roll the sleeves slightly and it doesn't look messy, lots of well-thought out details related to pockets, zippers, has Columbia written on shoulder instead of front, length is just right to keep my backside warm but not too long to look frumpy. Hood has great coverage and is warm and comfortable, love the fleece at the neck for warmth and softness. Spot on design! Love the attention to detail! December 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jacket Not bulky but very warm! I ordered black and the colour is actually not black but more of a charcoal grey. But it's quite nice. December 10, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Runs small, like a Medium I ordered this jacket and a coat during Black Friday sale online, great prices! When I received them and tried them on, it felt like a medium. I normally get my coats and jackets in a XL in case I want to wear a sweater. Both were too small to even zip up, and the selection of plus sizes are not so great. I had to retune both and lose my deals :-(  December 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Classy & outdoorsy all in one! Purchased this coat last year, in a size small, as XS was sold out. I was so disappointed when it didn't fit that I just returned it and froze all winter. I did select "runs slightly large," but that's just a heads up for the very petite women like myself. I am 100 pounds and five feet tall, and the XS fits well with comfortable room for a sweater/light fleece underneath. I would assume for average-sized women with boobs (lol) it does fit true to size. This is definitely suitable for winter and snow, it is a heavy duty coat disguised as something cute and classy (referring to brutal NW Ohio winters-- my freshman year of college, my city was the coldest in the country!!) With a nice hat and scarf and sweater underneath, this coat will keep you warm and dry, walking to class, walking the dog, exploring a park, etc,. The flint grey is wonderful; a "greige" color that goes well with anything and a welcome contrast to ALL the black coats I see. This is the first nice coat I've ever purchased, I am hopeful it will last awhile. Thank you, Columbia! Looking forward to enjoying my winter and getting outdoors instead of just hibernating till spring comes. December 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by STYLISH AND WARM! Thank you COLUMBIA! This is the jacket I've been searching for!!! I absolutely love the style and it's nice and warm - yes! It fits me perfectly and gives me the confidence I need to get outside this Winter! I'm so happy with all the pockets because they are the perfect size for my new iPhone 6s Plus! November 20, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by nice coat I just purchased this coat in an XL and it fits great, I like the belt with it also. It makes the coat look nicer. I haven't worn it yet cuz it hasn't been that cold so I don't know how warm it will keep me. But overall glad I bought this. November 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great jacket! I saw this jacket online and I went into the store to try it on and fell in love with it. I am from Michigan and it is definitely not suitable for a michigan winter, however it's perfect for fall or spring and SUPER flattering. It has omni-heat technology so if you tend to be warm often, it will keep you warmer than someone who is always chilly. This jacket would be a great barrier if you had a thick sweater underneath it. I am 5'4 and 130lbs and I usually wear a size 2-4 and I got a small and there's room for a sweater or hoodie underneath. November 15, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Runs small I bought this coat in Large for my daughter, who is a size 12. It was too small, though, and I had to return it. I'm waiting for an XL. November 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by England I got this coat to go to England in December. I am not there yet but know already that this coat will be perfect. It's warm and keeps you dry. I think the quality is really great. It is the nicest coat I own in terms of functionality. I love all of the pockets. The fit is true to size. I am normally a medium but I am pregnant so I got a large. I have room to grow and I am tall so the arms fit perfect. November 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by nice winter coat, not too bulky I reviewed the other comments regarding this coat and followed the advise to order one size up. I am 5ft, 3in and 145 lbs. I ordered a large and it fits perfectly. This coat is flattering and not too bulky as other winter coats can be. Often times when I order a larger size, the sleeves are too long, but this was not the case with this coat. I have not yet worn it in "winter conditions" but I am certain that it will be just fine. I have another Columbia coat with the "Omni-heat" insulation and it is very warm, so I feel this one will be similar. November 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I love this jacket! I absolutely love this jacket! This is my second Carson Pass jacket. My first jacket is now too large for me due to a 30 lb. weight loss, so of course I have to replace the jacket with a new one in a smaller size. This jacket is warm (because of the omni-heat) and has kept me warm during the brutal Chicago winter last year. This is my go-to jacket. Kudos to you, Columbia, you have a winner here! October 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent jacket My girlfriend loves this jacket says its very very warm good movability and very nice looking October 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by beautiful coat I ended up sending this coat back but only because I thought it would be too warm for what I was going to use it for. It was really lovely but I was looking for more of a rain and wind resitant coat to take to Iceland in September. I ended up buying a 3:1 exchangable coat. Good looking coat. September 27, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Would have been a good purchase but... I got this jacket last year from a sports store and was so excited to try it out my second cold winter in central Alberta. I love Columbia for outdoor wear but I have to say that I am quite disappointed in this product.. I was fairly cold in it most of the winter. I usually buy a size up, especially in jackets, because I like to put another layer or two underneath. I would highly recommend buying true to your size. I feel that with the reflective layer inside it needs to be pretty close to your body in order to work properly. I've only worn the jacket a handful of times because last winter was actually warmer than the last one, so I just relied on my old jacket to get the job done. The jacket is still in good condition and would really appreciate an exchange or credit if at all possible, especially for the price that it is. September 13, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by I love this coat! I am so glad I went with this coat! There were a few I was deciding between and the other reviews I read on here helped me to decide on this one. It is the warmest coat I have ever owned and not bulky at all. Actually right after I got my coat we dipped down to -0 temps and it did awesome!! I have to walk outside for work, so this coat definitely made me happy! I am tall and was concerned about arm length....now based on other reviews I was going to order a medium, but I ordered a large because medium was sold out. So glad I got the large because the arm length is perfect...I have some room in the body but nothing too big. I am 5'11" and 170...usually wear medium/large shirts, have a large bust, and size 10 pants if that helps anyone. The hood on this coat has worked great, the only part of the coat I didn't care for was the belt...it's not ideal for on and off situations. I just took it off and the coat is still super cute and very flattering. March 4, 2015
