Rated 4 out of 5 by Coat Love the look. 2 major things I would change: better zippers. They get stuck often trying to zip up the jacket. I would also put buttons instead of velcro along the side of the main zipper because the velcro gets stuck to everything! My hat, scarf, etc. And even it just sitting or hanging the Velcro gets caught on things around it. Overall, it keeps me warm and is a good looking coat. January 5, 2017
Rated 4 out of 5 by QUESTION!?!?! Love the coat! Thin, warm, etc. HOWEVER - I cannot for the life of me understand how to use the adjustable waist! I need it to be brought in, but the way it is set up makes no sense - pull it in, but nothing secures it from going back out..... ANY TIPS??? January 4, 2017
Rated 4 out of 5 by Perfect for a cold dry day in Portland I have a really hard time fitting into jackets but this one fits me perfectly! It was the only one in store and I love it. I tried on the voodoo long jacket and had to go up a size and it was still a little small. The only problem I have with the jacket is the down comes out of it every time I wear it. December 27, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love it I received my coat about three weeks ago. Prior to purchasing, I had researched many coats that were similar to this. I wanted one that would keep me warm in the Michigan winters. This coat does just that and fits great. I am 5'5 and 120ibs and ordered a medium, which fits great. I love that you can take in the middle part of the coat for a fitted look. There are a few things that could use improvements, however. I wanted a coat that had a hood, but I am not a fan of this one, I feel that it is too small. Also, I've only had the coat for three weeks, and feathers are already coming out. The coat feels very thin, so I was worried at first that it wouldn't be warm enough, but it is! I am always so cold during the winter, so I thought I'd spend a little extra money on a nice coat. This does the job and I would recommend! December 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by a must have Finally a coat that does the job of keep me warm and dry during those nasty winter days. This is the best investment I have made for myself. I gave away my old coat. I have an immune disorder and the cold weather makes it more painful to have a normal routine. This coat was the answer to my prayers. I live in Northern Indiana, in the bowlineline between Chicago IL and Indiana. We get the same weather and its a killer. I do not longer have to worry about staying warm and suffering throughout the winter while wearing multiple layers plus a random coat. May 18, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Quality Feathers always popping out April 18, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love it Love this jacket. Great length, sooo warm and looks nice. It was a bit roomier than I expected, I could have gotten a medium but the large gives me enough room to put heavy clothes underneath. The only reason I kept one star out is because the outside material can be snagged or ripped pretty easy. It's a very thin poly layer but the insulation is great. March 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Surprisingly warm, esp for the weight! I took this coat to Iceland and Alaska in February, and found it kept me surprisingly warm. It's not a heavy coat, and I was a little concerned that I'd be cold even though it has the Omni-heat lining. I'm quite happy with it. Also, it's white (not a great idea for me), and it needed washing quickly. Fortunately, it also washed easily. February 25, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by just what I was looking for This coat is warm and offers full coverage, which is exactly what I was looking for. The length is flattering and his just above the knee in front. It can be dressed up or down. Very warm and cozy for my Northern Michigan winters! February 24, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Super warm and functional I love this coat. It is so lightweight, yet extemely warm. I am 5'11 so I decided to get and XL for length but I have lots of room and could comfortable worn a L so I would call it true to size, also there is a waist cincher so it still looks fashionable. I love that the pockets have a warm lining. The only thing I have noticed is the down feathers tend to come out so that is why I lowered the quality rating February 14, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Tears way too easily I loved this coat. It is very warm (even more so when your skin is in contact with the Omniheat lining) and even in a blizzard you don't get wet. However, simple snow tore the coat. I slipped and fell during a blizzard and landed in a mound of snow. That was enough to tear the material. Feathers are now everywhere and I have a huge gaping tear in the sleeve. I bought it for nearly $300 so it's a bit much to just have snow rip it! I'm very unhappy about how poor the quality is! January 27, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I love this coat. I am 5'0' and 135 lbs and got a medium and it fits perfect. The coat is very light weight but warm. I love this coat now my daughter wants one and is using mine s a blanket sometimes. January 16, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by subpar Bought this product last year and tried it in cold weather a couple of times. I thought it was great... at first. Now I live full time in Chicago and it is just not cutting it. as the temperature dropped and the wind picked up, I slowly realized this coat would not be enough. the omni heat lining only works if you're really out moving around. otherwise, the wind cuts right through it. The cinch waist does not stay cinched. All of the zipper get stuck so easily I'm constantly getting stuck in my coat. This just isn't the coat I expected it to be. Currently in the market for a better one January 10, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by consumer love coat, problem with zipper. zipper not working well January 6, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Warm and Cozy This is my third long down jacket from Columbia and it is my favorite. It is lightweight, stylish, and most of all keeps me very warm and cozy. I've worn it in the snow with temperatures in the 20's and was very pleased with how warm the jacket kept me. The combination of omni-heat and down filling makes this the ideal winter jacket. January 4, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not warm - big disappointment I was looking for a long jacket that would stand up to very cold weather, as this one was advertised. It is extremely light and thin, and is nowhere near the 600 fill down that they claim. I need a jacket that will keep me warm during Western New York winters. I tested this out in 35 degree weather with a very light wind, wearing a smartwool cami, merino turtleneck, and a cashmere sweater underneath, and despite the Omni Heat lining, the cold cut straight through. Omni Heat is not a substitute for down. It's a shame; it is flattering and the charcoal gray (not black as stated) is actually very nice. Another note: I ordered a large, even though I am a medium in any other brand. Columbia runs small! Back it goes!! December 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by great jacket - light, warm and stylish I love this jacket - it is light but warm and comfortable and elegant! December 13, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Rips easily Loved this jacket so much, however within the first year of buying it, the material ripped. It is rather delicate and if you snag it on anything (getting out of a car, shoveling, snow blowing) it will rip. Will not be repurchasing because I spent so much on this jacket and warranty didn't cover the tear even within the first year. November 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Warm, light weight coat We bought my daughter this coat for college to be sure more of her body would be covered. Our family has several Columbia jackets and we have always been very pleased with the quality. It is very light weight and the Omni-heat technology keeps you very warm. August 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by SuperFantasitcallyAwesome Coat I love this coat. It's thin and not overly bulky. You'd think, "Gee, I bet that's not very warm." You'd be wrong. It has omni-heat technology that works wonders. I live in Minnesota, which is cold...really cold (we had a high of -11 degrees without the windchill once...and I live in the southern part). The coat kept me as warm as any coat could in this climate. Seriously, love it. March 25, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by light weight but heavy warm i absolutely love this coat. I was a bit skeptical at first because it was so light weight but it's very very warm. Our Indiana winter this year wasn't as harsh as in the past but it did get down to 20 below for just a few days and I was toasty warm and protected from the elements. I'm 5'3" size 8, and the medium fit perfectly and I have gotten so many compliments on it. I ordered the winter white color because it was the only color left in my size. It does have some soiled spots but I'm sure they'll come out when I wash it because I've had no problem wiping most of the dirt off when it happens. It's a winner!! March 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exceeded expectations!! Highly recommend! Was skeptical when the coat arrived, the package was feather light. Quickly figured out this coat was the best investment I ever made! Very light weight and not too bulky. The zipper takes a little getting used to since there are two zipper pulls. These actually come in handy though, you can unzip the bottom of the coat making it easier to get in and out of vehicles. And best of all... this coat is toasty warm!! I live in the Midwest, it reached ten below zero this winter and my coat exceeded expectations and kept me warm. I definately recommend! March 9, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Warm in ND This is a great winter jacket that kept me really warm in below zero weather. The great thing about it is that even though it is a winter jacket it is very light. The only think I am not in love with is the fact that the feathers are coming out already. I have had a lot of down jackets and the feathers come out but not as quick as this one. March 5, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lightweight, but warm! I purchased this jacket to keep me warm while walking my dog and it definitely does the job! The jacket is very lightweight and allows for movement, but don't think that it isn't warm because of that...it is! Here in the midwest February was a brutal month, very cold temps and even colder windchill. This jacket kept me very warm and I'm super glad I purchased it! It isn't too puffy and still has a little bit of a fitted look. I also love that the hood is removable. March 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than I imagined This coat is great! Perfect fit, right length for me and SO warm! I'm thrilled with it and so glad to have it with the start of a cold lacrosse season and football in the fall. By far the warmest coat I own and finally the right thing for watching outdoor sports. March 5, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great winter coat This coat is effective for keeping warm. I'd love it in another color. February 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love It! Purchased this coat last week, my husband and I went for a walk -25 with blowing snow and I was warm with only a very light long sleeve shirt underneath. Can't get over how light this coat is. So comfortable. February 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Columbia Jacket This Hexbreaker Columbia Jacket is awesome. It is so light and warm, really amazing. I can wear a thin shirt/blouse underneath and in the coldest of weather, I am warm. Very comfortable too, and I have received many compliments on it. February 2, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by fits this large busted, broad shouldered woman just fine! I own other Columbia jackets in the OmniHeat collection (not down-filled; Mighty Lite hooded jacket, Mighty Lite III jacket, and Kaleidaslope II jacket) that I do really like, but they are too tight in the bust and shoulders for me. I ordered this coat on Black Friday and hoped for the best. I am 5'8" tall, 40DDD bust, size 16 pants, broad shoulders--I ordered an XL and it fits very comfortably. I can easily move around while wearing this jacket, and it is neither tight nor restrictive. Minnesota has had incredibly cold winters these past two seasons, so I needed to step my winter coat game up in order to save my sanity this year. I ride the bus and light rail to work every day, so I am outside for quite a bit both in the mornings and evenings, so staying warm is a top priority for me! I love the OmniHeat lining on my other coats, so I was pleased that this coat has it as well. I love that this coat is longer and covers my butt--I think that it helps me feel warmer. The coat zips up and down easily, and when fully zipped the collar covers up to my nose without choking me; it is a comfortable fit. The hood has small drawstring-like devices which help to cinch it closer on windy days, but they're a little fussy to use, especially when you have mittens on; adjust these with your bare hands or before you leave for outside. As others have mentioned, it's not exactly waterproof or windproof, so layer appropriately. The velcro patches over the main zipper are nice, however the corners aren't exactly stitched down, so they catch on everything; I would rather have had snap closures. And they're kind of scratchy if you catch it on your skin, etc. One nice thing missing from this coat would have been to have the comfort cuffs with thumb holes--I love that feature on the Mighty Lite coats, especially when it's REALLY cold and windy out--helps keep exposed skin to a minimum!! MY ONLY TRULY NEGATIVE COMMENT--this coat bleeds down ALL THE TIME. The feathers are small and do not have sharp "shafts" like some other down coats/vests I've had in the past, but there is always down bleeding out of the seams. At one point my mom asked if my coat had a rip in it, that's how bad it is! There's always down feathers stuck to my car seat, to my purse, on my desk at work...this quality issue is the one thing that Columbia really needs to fix. I've attached photos of the back and the left armpit to highlight this issue. Overall, I really do like this coat, but would LOVE it if the minor quality issues were fixed, and if the comfort cuffs with thumb holes were added...well, it'd be a match made in heaven :) January 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Don't question this jacket- DO IT Hello from Grand Forks, North Dakota where yesterday it was a warm -14 degrees and -28 with windchill (I wouldn't know how to make these temps up if I tried). I got this coat for Christmas and I already wonder how I ever survived college in this tundra before this gift! I'm 6'1" with a slim/athletic build and this coat is long enough for my arms (Thank you for that, Columbia) as well as covers my bum. I have a regular length ski coat 700 fill North Face, and as warm as that keeps me, it's quite bulky. So naturally when I saw this coat I questioned its warming function because it's not at all bulky. I can't think of a better way to explain how warm it is than this: I actually looked forward to putting gas in my car yesterday (refer to the temp provided above) AND I realized when I was done, that I didn't question why I live in this state which such horrible temperatures. I can pretty much thank this coat and Columbia for making the winters of the coldest state in the continental US actually enjoyable for once. January 6, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not that warm, too much velcro I had high hopes that this coat would be warm enough for a Chicago winter. Sadly it is not. I'm really not impressed with the heat tech lining. In addition the front closure has a lot of velcro, which has a way of snagging sweaters and scarves and ruining them. I didn't have any trouble with the two way zipper, but the fabric around the zipper always gets caught in it when trying to close the coat. I'm glad I got a large so that I can fit additional coats underneath. January 5, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Warmer than expected I purchased this coat to wear in the cold and windy Chicago winters. We've had below freezing temps and high winds, which this coat handled well. I was a little concerned about the size (I have size large hips and size medium chest), but I went with the medium. It's a little tight over the hips, but I can sit and move without issues, and there's still room to layer if needed (though I haven't needed to yet). I love the purple color, too. Overall, highly recommend. January 4, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by NOT WARM!!! Do NOT buy!!! I researched long, warm, down jackets for 2 weeks before asking for this for Christmas because, "when seriously cold conditions set in, this ultralight, surprisingly flattering long down jacket will keep you warm and protected. It battles arctic air." ARCTIC AIR! I was sold and the reviews were great and from people who lived in cold places so I thought this was a no-brainer. Oh! AND it has Omni-heat technology! SO WHAT!! It does NOT radiate ANY body heat! I am from very cold upstate NY so I am use to the cold. I am in NYC now and we have had unseasonably warm temps since Christmas. I wore it in 50 degrees and was slightly cold. I wore it in 46 degrees with a slight breeze and was cold. Winter and arctic wind chills have not even started and the temperature has not even gone down to the 30s and I am NOT WARM in this jacket. Even my legs, which are covered, feel the cold. For almost $300 this jacket should be amazing and it is HORRIBLE! I don't dare to say anything to my partner who could not believe she spent $300 on a jacket. DO NOT BUY THIS JACKET! It is not worth the money at all! I want to cry when I think about other jackets I could have gotten and all the money wasted. I will now have to freeze in this wanna be arctic chill jacket since you cannot return it after it is worn. How will you know how it will perform UNTIL you WEAR it?! I will NEVER buy another Columbia jacket nor recommend anyone else buying a Columbia jacket ever again. So much wasted money... December 30, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Value I live at 10,000 feet in the mountains with 9-months of snow each year. I have been looking for a long winter jacket that's not a ski jacket for years. I researched this jacket and purchased it vs comparable at the local outlet because it has 1) zippered pockets 2) an internal zippered wallet pocket 3) non-fur lined, removable hood 4) longer length. I have been very pleased with it, even on a 45 minute gondola ride in 0 degree F temps. It looks classy over a pair of slacks or a skirt. It is NOT waterproof, and it is NOT windproof, so layer appropriately if you need that functionality. December 21, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by not warm for the money Runs a little small and is not as warm as I would think it should be for having the down and omni heat reflective. The wind goes right through it. I would not recommend it. I have not even worn it in real cold weather yet. December 17, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by :( Very nice, I love the color but I seem hen leaving feathers everywhere. Actually not return to buy it. The jacket will be without feathers. The feathers look me in the jacket as it exits. is no longer just purple, now is purple and white :( I am also concerned about the zipper. How long the zipper work? December 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best coat ever! I spent months trying to find the perfect long winter coat and this is by far the best coat I have found. It is SO warm and looks great. 20-30 degree weather literally doesn't phase me in this coat. It's fitted and not boxy like many others I have tried. I have gotten tons of compliments and friends have even bought it after seeing me wear it. It fits true to size - I am 5'5", 115lbs and the Small fits perfectly. There is still space for a sweatshirt or something underneath without making it look too big and unshapely. Plus, it is water resistant, unlike many others, so you don't get that musty damp smell. Absolutely perfect!! December 16, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by too thin I was disappointed because it's only 600 fill. XS runs a little small to me and so I up size to S. Very large for me. I need to wear one more coat inside to feel warm. Please fix your size issue and more fill for long down jacket. Thanks. I don't recommend this for those who afraid of cold. December 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect winter jacket! Warm, comfortable and lightweight! It is roomy enough to wear layers under when needed. I am 5 feet 9 inches and weigh 110 lbs., the XS length is perfect!! Just waiting for the snow to fall this season! December 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by very lightweight and warm! I ordered the xs black coat. It is a lighter shade of black than I expected - it looks more like a very dark shade of blue when you are wearing it with dark black pants. The reason I rated it a 4 is that the zipper gets stuck when I'm trying to zip it up and won't zip unless I try it a few times. However, it does have the velcro to keep it closed so you don't have to zip it up. The best part of the coat is it is very lightweight and thin, but keeps me very warm. I've been wearing it in 20 degree weather. You do not feel the wind or cold at all. I was actually very surprised that it is so thin and it insulates heat so well. I'm 5'3 and 117 pounds and the XS was a perfect size for me. December 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lightweight, but Warm I live in southern Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. Weather is similar to DC and foothills of TN. The sizing seems very true to size. I ordered a large and it's a little big, but that's good, as it leaves room for layers. From when I unpacked it, it was losing down feathers right away, which makes me question the durability of the jacket. Additionally, it's *much* more lightweight in general and in the thickness of the outer material. It doesn't shed rain well, but it doesn't seem to absorb it, either. PROS: packability, lightweight, oversized hood, warmth CONS: durability, zipper start at bottom a little finicky, not very water resistant Overall, a good purchase for casual wear, but not something I would ever wear on a boat or for any even moderate athletic activity. December 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazingly warm and light This coat is phenomenal. Super, super warm and very light weight. It keeps the wind out. I have to take it off when I go into stores because I'll start sweating, even with just a light shirt underneath. My only complaints are that I wish the pockets were a bit bigger, and I'd replace the two-way zipper with a regular zipper. It has the kind that unzips from the bottom--I don't use it that way and I always find them harder to zip-up. I am 5'8" and 125 lbs and the size small fit me great. December 9, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this jacket! I have been wanting a long jacket for this winter, but was worried a long one would swallow me as I am just over 5 foot. I tried this jacket on in stores and LOVED IT. I had to order because i couldn't stop thinking about it. This was the first puffy jacket I tried on that was actually flattering, due to the adjustable cinch at the waist and longer length in the back. Super stylish, super comfortable, and super versatile. I have worn it everyday since I got it! December 8, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by very pleased I have been searching for a warm parka for years as here in Minnesota it seems winter can last 7 months! 30°F today no wind and it was TOO warm.....yes.....that's the kind of coat i wanted. Light weight. Not too puffy. Slim fit. Soft. Great cuffs to keep the cold out. Easy on and off with bulky layers. Great length. Speedy delivery even to me in the boonies. I agree it would be better with snaps instead of velcro. And i would've loved cuffs with the thumb hole design. I'm 5'5 150# and muscular so the large fits a bit snug in the arms with a heavy sweater. But its a perfect fit everywhere else. VERY impressed with the omniheat lining.... overall super happy with it. December 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better Than Expected This has become my go-to coat for almost everyday. It's so lightweight, and I like the smart styling, so i don't feel too casual. I actually bought it for the really cold days, but I'm wearing it in milder weather as well. Truly a pleasant surprise. December 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it! I already had the shorter version of this coat and I loved that one. So wanted the longer version for dress. I work on a college campus and do a lot of walking. This jacket works perfect for the wind and cold that blows on the campus. December 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by In love Excellent coat. Incredibly warm, good length as well. Not bulky, nipped waist is flattering. I ordered a small, (5ft7in, 115 lbs) and its roomy enough for lots of layers underneath. The Quill color is beautiful and a nice alternative to black in the winter. December 4, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Thin but warm I was surprised how light the package was. The coat is extremely light and that kind of disappointed me. I had tried it on and went outside though and it seemed to be warm so I'll keep it. The coat seems almost fragile since it is light and the fabric that it is made of. I really hope it will hold up and be warm enough to walk around campus with for next year. December 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Winter Coat for Chicago Winters After a lot of debate between the raved Northface Metropolis Parka and this jacket, I decided on Columbia for harsh Chicago winters. This jacket is well worth the money as the only negative thing I can say is that I wish I would have bought it sooner while I was in college! It is incredibly lightweight, not at all bulky, and very stylish for a puffer. I love the drawstring on the inside - I very slim in the waist and having it allows me to cinch in the torso for a slim fit when I'm not wearing heavier layers underneath. I recently tested this coat out at a 4+ hour tailgate and football game in 35 degree weather with very brisk winds and I was warm the entire time with just a thin long sleeve and tank top underneath. The omni-heat technology really helps to keep your body heat inside the coat without perspiration, and I love that it is long enough to cover my thighs and bum. For reference, I am 5'8" and weigh 135 lbs, measurements of 32-26.5-34.5 high hip and 36.5 low hip. I got the XS and it fits snugger in the bottom and looser for layers in the top with a great fit overall. I've already gotten a lot of compliments and inquiries on this jacket from my friends and I'm excited to be able to spend more time outdoors this winter! December 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful coat I would call the Sea salt color a soft white. It's a pretty, classy color. The coat is well made. I didn't have any problems with feathers poking through or any sort of down feather smell (you'd be surprised that other well known brands reek of feathers and have that old dusty down feeling.) Very nice and comfortable to wear. I would love to have kept it but realized I needed something more like a parka that has a waterproof exterior. December 1, 2014
