fits this large busted, broad shouldered woman just fine! I own other Columbia jackets in the OmniHeat collection (not down-filled; Mighty Lite hooded jacket, Mighty Lite III jacket, and Kaleidaslope II jacket) that I do really like, but they are too tight in the bust and shoulders for me. I ordered this coat on Black Friday and hoped for the best. I am 5'8" tall, 40DDD bust, size 16 pants, broad shoulders--I ordered an XL and it fits very comfortably. I can easily move around while wearing this jacket, and it is neither tight nor restrictive. Minnesota has had incredibly cold winters these past two seasons, so I needed to step my winter coat game up in order to save my sanity this year. I ride the bus and light rail to work every day, so I am outside for quite a bit both in the mornings and evenings, so staying warm is a top priority for me! I love the OmniHeat lining on my other coats, so I was pleased that this coat has it as well. I love that this coat is longer and covers my butt--I think that it helps me feel warmer. The coat zips up and down easily, and when fully zipped the collar covers up to my nose without choking me; it is a comfortable fit. The hood has small drawstring-like devices which help to cinch it closer on windy days, but they're a little fussy to use, especially when you have mittens on; adjust these with your bare hands or before you leave for outside. As others have mentioned, it's not exactly waterproof or windproof, so layer appropriately. The velcro patches over the main zipper are nice, however the corners aren't exactly stitched down, so they catch on everything; I would rather have had snap closures. And they're kind of scratchy if you catch it on your skin, etc. One nice thing missing from this coat would have been to have the comfort cuffs with thumb holes--I love that feature on the Mighty Lite coats, especially when it's REALLY cold and windy out--helps keep exposed skin to a minimum!! MY ONLY TRULY NEGATIVE COMMENT--this coat bleeds down ALL THE TIME. The feathers are small and do not have sharp "shafts" like some other down coats/vests I've had in the past, but there is always down bleeding out of the seams. At one point my mom asked if my coat had a rip in it, that's how bad it is! There's always down feathers stuck to my car seat, to my purse, on my desk at work...this quality issue is the one thing that Columbia really needs to fix. I've attached photos of the back and the left armpit to highlight this issue. Overall, I really do like this coat, but would LOVE it if the minor quality issues were fixed, and if the comfort cuffs with thumb holes were added...well, it'd be a match made in heaven :) January 9, 2015
Don't question this jacket- DO IT Hello from Grand Forks, North Dakota where yesterday it was a warm -14 degrees and -28 with windchill (I wouldn't know how to make these temps up if I tried). I got this coat for Christmas and I already wonder how I ever survived college in this tundra before this gift! I'm 6'1" with a slim/athletic build and this coat is long enough for my arms (Thank you for that, Columbia) as well as covers my bum. I have a regular length ski coat 700 fill North Face, and as warm as that keeps me, it's quite bulky. So naturally when I saw this coat I questioned its warming function because it's not at all bulky. I can't think of a better way to explain how warm it is than this: I actually looked forward to putting gas in my car yesterday (refer to the temp provided above) AND I realized when I was done, that I didn't question why I live in this state which such horrible temperatures. I can pretty much thank this coat and Columbia for making the winters of the coldest state in the continental US actually enjoyable for once. January 6, 2015
Not that warm, too much velcro I had high hopes that this coat would be warm enough for a Chicago winter. Sadly it is not. I'm really not impressed with the heat tech lining. In addition the front closure has a lot of velcro, which has a way of snagging sweaters and scarves and ruining them. I didn't have any trouble with the two way zipper, but the fabric around the zipper always gets caught in it when trying to close the coat. I'm glad I got a large so that I can fit additional coats underneath. January 5, 2015
Warmer than expected I purchased this coat to wear in the cold and windy Chicago winters. We've had below freezing temps and high winds, which this coat handled well. I was a little concerned about the size (I have size large hips and size medium chest), but I went with the medium. It's a little tight over the hips, but I can sit and move without issues, and there's still room to layer if needed (though I haven't needed to yet). I love the purple color, too. Overall, highly recommend. January 4, 2015
NOT WARM!!! Do NOT buy!!! I researched long, warm, down jackets for 2 weeks before asking for this for Christmas because, "when seriously cold conditions set in, this ultralight, surprisingly flattering long down jacket will keep you warm and protected. It battles arctic air." ARCTIC AIR! I was sold and the reviews were great and from people who lived in cold places so I thought this was a no-brainer. Oh! AND it has Omni-heat technology! SO WHAT!! It does NOT radiate ANY body heat! I am from very cold upstate NY so I am use to the cold. I am in NYC now and we have had unseasonably warm temps since Christmas. I wore it in 50 degrees and was slightly cold. I wore it in 46 degrees with a slight breeze and was cold. Winter and arctic wind chills have not even started and the temperature has not even gone down to the 30s and I am NOT WARM in this jacket. Even my legs, which are covered, feel the cold. For almost $300 this jacket should be amazing and it is HORRIBLE! I don't dare to say anything to my partner who could not believe she spent $300 on a jacket. DO NOT BUY THIS JACKET! It is not worth the money at all! I want to cry when I think about other jackets I could have gotten and all the money wasted. I will now have to freeze in this wanna be arctic chill jacket since you cannot return it after it is worn. How will you know how it will perform UNTIL you WEAR it?! I will NEVER buy another Columbia jacket nor recommend anyone else buying a Columbia jacket ever again. So much wasted money... December 30, 2014
Good Value I live at 10,000 feet in the mountains with 9-months of snow each year. I have been looking for a long winter jacket that's not a ski jacket for years. I researched this jacket and purchased it vs comparable at the local outlet because it has 1) zippered pockets 2) an internal zippered wallet pocket 3) non-fur lined, removable hood 4) longer length. I have been very pleased with it, even on a 45 minute gondola ride in 0 degree F temps. It looks classy over a pair of slacks or a skirt. It is NOT waterproof, and it is NOT windproof, so layer appropriately if you need that functionality. December 21, 2014
not warm for the money Runs a little small and is not as warm as I would think it should be for having the down and omni heat reflective. The wind goes right through it. I would not recommend it. I have not even worn it in real cold weather yet. December 17, 2014
:( Very nice, I love the color but I seem hen leaving feathers everywhere. Actually not return to buy it. The jacket will be without feathers. The feathers look me in the jacket as it exits. is no longer just purple, now is purple and white :( I am also concerned about the zipper. How long the zipper work? December 17, 2014
Best coat ever! I spent months trying to find the perfect long winter coat and this is by far the best coat I have found. It is SO warm and looks great. 20-30 degree weather literally doesn't phase me in this coat. It's fitted and not boxy like many others I have tried. I have gotten tons of compliments and friends have even bought it after seeing me wear it. It fits true to size - I am 5'5", 115lbs and the Small fits perfectly. There is still space for a sweatshirt or something underneath without making it look too big and unshapely. Plus, it is water resistant, unlike many others, so you don't get that musty damp smell. Absolutely perfect!! December 16, 2014
too thin I was disappointed because it's only 600 fill. XS runs a little small to me and so I up size to S. Very large for me. I need to wear one more coat inside to feel warm. Please fix your size issue and more fill for long down jacket. Thanks. I don't recommend this for those who afraid of cold. December 16, 2014
Perfect winter jacket! Warm, comfortable and lightweight! It is roomy enough to wear layers under when needed. I am 5 feet 9 inches and weigh 110 lbs., the XS length is perfect!! Just waiting for the snow to fall this season! December 16, 2014
very lightweight and warm! I ordered the xs black coat. It is a lighter shade of black than I expected - it looks more like a very dark shade of blue when you are wearing it with dark black pants. The reason I rated it a 4 is that the zipper gets stuck when I'm trying to zip it up and won't zip unless I try it a few times. However, it does have the velcro to keep it closed so you don't have to zip it up. The best part of the coat is it is very lightweight and thin, but keeps me very warm. I've been wearing it in 20 degree weather. You do not feel the wind or cold at all. I was actually very surprised that it is so thin and it insulates heat so well. I'm 5'3 and 117 pounds and the XS was a perfect size for me. December 10, 2014
Lightweight, but Warm I live in southern Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. Weather is similar to DC and foothills of TN. The sizing seems very true to size. I ordered a large and it's a little big, but that's good, as it leaves room for layers. From when I unpacked it, it was losing down feathers right away, which makes me question the durability of the jacket. Additionally, it's *much* more lightweight in general and in the thickness of the outer material. It doesn't shed rain well, but it doesn't seem to absorb it, either. PROS: packability, lightweight, oversized hood, warmth CONS: durability, zipper start at bottom a little finicky, not very water resistant Overall, a good purchase for casual wear, but not something I would ever wear on a boat or for any even moderate athletic activity. December 9, 2014
Amazingly warm and light This coat is phenomenal. Super, super warm and very light weight. It keeps the wind out. I have to take it off when I go into stores because I'll start sweating, even with just a light shirt underneath. My only complaints are that I wish the pockets were a bit bigger, and I'd replace the two-way zipper with a regular zipper. It has the kind that unzips from the bottom--I don't use it that way and I always find them harder to zip-up. I am 5'8" and 125 lbs and the size small fit me great. December 9, 2014
Love this jacket! I have been wanting a long jacket for this winter, but was worried a long one would swallow me as I am just over 5 foot. I tried this jacket on in stores and LOVED IT. I had to order because i couldn't stop thinking about it. This was the first puffy jacket I tried on that was actually flattering, due to the adjustable cinch at the waist and longer length in the back. Super stylish, super comfortable, and super versatile. I have worn it everyday since I got it! December 8, 2014
very pleased I have been searching for a warm parka for years as here in Minnesota it seems winter can last 7 months! 30°F today no wind and it was TOO warm.....yes.....that's the kind of coat i wanted. Light weight. Not too puffy. Slim fit. Soft. Great cuffs to keep the cold out. Easy on and off with bulky layers. Great length. Speedy delivery even to me in the boonies. I agree it would be better with snaps instead of velcro. And i would've loved cuffs with the thumb hole design. I'm 5'5 150# and muscular so the large fits a bit snug in the arms with a heavy sweater. But its a perfect fit everywhere else. VERY impressed with the omniheat lining.... overall super happy with it. December 6, 2014
Better Than Expected This has become my go-to coat for almost everyday. It's so lightweight, and I like the smart styling, so i don't feel too casual. I actually bought it for the really cold days, but I'm wearing it in milder weather as well. Truly a pleasant surprise. December 6, 2014
Love it! I already had the shorter version of this coat and I loved that one. So wanted the longer version for dress. I work on a college campus and do a lot of walking. This jacket works perfect for the wind and cold that blows on the campus. December 4, 2014
In love Excellent coat. Incredibly warm, good length as well. Not bulky, nipped waist is flattering. I ordered a small, (5ft7in, 115 lbs) and its roomy enough for lots of layers underneath. The Quill color is beautiful and a nice alternative to black in the winter. December 4, 2014
Thin but warm I was surprised how light the package was. The coat is extremely light and that kind of disappointed me. I had tried it on and went outside though and it seemed to be warm so I'll keep it. The coat seems almost fragile since it is light and the fabric that it is made of. I really hope it will hold up and be warm enough to walk around campus with for next year. December 3, 2014
Best Winter Coat for Chicago Winters After a lot of debate between the raved Northface Metropolis Parka and this jacket, I decided on Columbia for harsh Chicago winters. This jacket is well worth the money as the only negative thing I can say is that I wish I would have bought it sooner while I was in college! It is incredibly lightweight, not at all bulky, and very stylish for a puffer. I love the drawstring on the inside - I very slim in the waist and having it allows me to cinch in the torso for a slim fit when I'm not wearing heavier layers underneath. I recently tested this coat out at a 4+ hour tailgate and football game in 35 degree weather with very brisk winds and I was warm the entire time with just a thin long sleeve and tank top underneath. The omni-heat technology really helps to keep your body heat inside the coat without perspiration, and I love that it is long enough to cover my thighs and bum. For reference, I am 5'8" and weigh 135 lbs, measurements of 32-26.5-34.5 high hip and 36.5 low hip. I got the XS and it fits snugger in the bottom and looser for layers in the top with a great fit overall. I've already gotten a lot of compliments and inquiries on this jacket from my friends and I'm excited to be able to spend more time outdoors this winter! December 3, 2014
Beautiful coat I would call the Sea salt color a soft white. It's a pretty, classy color. The coat is well made. I didn't have any problems with feathers poking through or any sort of down feather smell (you'd be surprised that other well known brands reek of feathers and have that old dusty down feeling.) Very nice and comfortable to wear. I would love to have kept it but realized I needed something more like a parka that has a waterproof exterior. December 1, 2014
Coat I Love the my new coat, it's comfy and Nice and warm! However, the Velcro on the closures, I do not like at all. They are already coming off, I have only worn the coat for a week. They just need to figure out a new closure design. November 28, 2014
So far so good This coat is very lightweight. I wore it today in a feels like temp of -1 and felt warm and toasty and I just had a t-shirt on underneath. I liked the drawstring waist to snug it in, the double zipper, and the feel of the overall jackets is lovely, especially the cuffs. The only thing that I would prefer is if it had snaps instead of Velcro for the flap. It has a bottom snap but the rest if velcro. Also, I've been shedding down a bit. Hopefully that is just because its new. Otherwise great coat, hope it holds up in the cold Chicago Winter. 5'7 - 170 lbs - Large (I do have big shoulders) and it's not too loose or to tight (perfect fit). I can wear a t-shirt or a bulky sweater! November 17, 2014
Great coat for cold weather This coat is lightweight, warm, and super soft. Plenty of room to wear layers. Sleeve length is great and the cuffs are soft and snug but not tight. Love the length. So glad I purchased this coat! November 6, 2014
