Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for winter Weatherproof: Got this for winter - kept me warm and absolutely dry when I had to walk for hours in heavy rain + sub-zero temperature. In fact at some point I started to sweat a little because the thick lining was so warm. Fit: Being 5'2 140lbs with ample 34DD chest, I'm usually between a small and medium, so I got the medium and it fit well, slightly tight over chest but I can still zip up all the way without too much trouble. I have short arms, and the sleeves reach my knuckles, which I like. Most jackets go beyond my fingertips. Color: I got the red. It's actually scarlet - brilliant red color with a tinge of orange. If you want to blend in with the crowd, do not get this color because you will stand out. I get looks from passerbys sometimes being a beacon of red! Most of my clothes are black so I'm not used to it. On the bright side, the red makes me feel confident crossing the street - cars can easily spot me from afar, which is important since I'm always on my feet. Packing: It's a little bulky due to its thickness. When I take it off, it's like holding a pillow. If I have to travel with it, I'd likely not pack it into luggage and just wear it. Overall: Great investment for a winter jacket. It'll be the only one you'll need if you're up on snow-capped mountains.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for winter weather I bought this coat specifically to wear in the dead of winter in Germany. It was the perfect choice. It was wind proof, the hood adjustability was perfect, and it was warm. I really appreciated the thumb holes and interior security pocket. Would be great if there was another security pocket on the right side of the jacket. The size was decent, enough to hold my passport, credit cards and some chapstick. The size does run small. I am 4'11" and got the xs. It fits well, but is certainly snug. Small would have worked too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Winter Coat! Was looking for a longer winter coat. After much research and back and forth, I ended up with the mid Lay-D down. Many reviews saying it ran small so I got the XL when I normally wear an L. The L would have been fine. Now they don't have that size in stock. Not too bad because it still is nice when you wear fleece or sweaters underneath. Plus I have broader shoulders so it worked out. I got the Camellia and it's super bright but that's okay, that just means you can find me in the snow. The fabric on the neckline is super soft and snug around your neck so you don't need a scarf. First time I walked outside, all I had on underneath was a t-shirt. It kept me nice and warm. Love the adjustable and removable hood and fur. The hood is warm and stiff and stays in place. Didn't fall off in the wind. Length is perfect and cinches at the bottom for added insulation. The wrist holes are a great feature as well. More importantly, the fabric on the outside isn't your normal puffy coat thin fabric. Much more durable for those falls in the snow. I hope this jacket lasts for a long time. Wish they used snaps instead of velcro but its not a make or break. Other than that, just buy it and you'll be happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS JACKET! I have a few Columbia jackets but wanted one that was long and very warm. This jacket did not disappoint. I would highly recommend purchasing this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Midwest Winters I decided I needed a heavier coat for Minnesota Winters, and ended up choosing this one in-store. I love the color, and it keeps me warm in the regularly negative temps! The fabric of the collar is another bonus- it's soft and keeps my neck warm. I don't even need to wear a scarf with it. The hood stays on nicely with the fur- my Mighty Lite Columbia hood always fell off even without wind. A must-have for cold winters.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from dissapointed, uneven fit Bought the jacket in black. It was nice and warm.Unfortunately, the arms are too long, it is bulky in the middle and snug at the bottom. Also the zipper was stuck on the 1st day i tried wearing it and was unable to get it unstuck. Will have to return it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coat This is the best coat I have ever had. It fits you like a glove. The Omni heat lining of the coat is absolutely amazing. I have worn it several times now when it has been in the low teens with a cold wind outside and this coat has kept me cozy warm. I did not even know that it was cold outside since the coat was keeping me so warm. I would highly recommend it to everyone. I love the color that I got which is a red camelia and I have gotten many compliments on it too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely love this product I'm from Chicago and needed a new winter jacket. I'm 5'3 and 118 pounds and finding a warm winter jacket that doesn't look too big can be difficult. I was skeptical about the fit when I ordered it but i'm so glad I did. The arms are a little long but besides that it's great. The fit is flattering and it has kept me warm in 0 degree weather, i've worn a long sleeve underneath. I love that the fur trim is detachable and the sleeves are adjustable on the wrists. Best purchase I could've made for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super WARM! & COZY! I love this coat! The whole description on this coat is completely TRUE! Keeps me warm! Im not a large, Im a size medium. But I wanted to go a size bigger so I can be a little more comfortable in the coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Jacket I've read all the reviews and measured myself before purchasing. I'm 5'10, 180lb, I'm a large chested as well. Based on that I purchased size XL and it was huge on me so unfortunately I had to return it. This is a great quality jacket. The color is amazing fire red :) I would highly recommend this coat to anyone. It would provide warmth and dryness when needed. This jacket will last forever because it made well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this jacket I am 5'5", 34 bust, 27 waist, and 38 hips. I bought the medium jacket and not too snug or loose. This jacket kept me extremely warm. I think a small would have worked as well, but I like room in my jacket because a lot of my sweaters are kinda bulky. Jacket stops just above my knees.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I bought the jacket for my 15 yr old. It fits her perfectly ( size small) and keeps her nice n warm. The added savings is always a bonus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs small I loved this jacket but I had to return it for the fact that it runs a whole size small. My daughter had trouble zipping it up. And she is a medium. I had ordered a large.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coat Great coat! I am between size S and M and went with M and glad I did. Needed to make sure this was really warm for cold winters and it has not disappointed. This coat comes in at the waist a tiny bit for a feminine touch, which is nice. Extremely comfortable and the hood is able to stay up during windy days. And, great red color! I have received many compliments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! What a FABULOUS coat! Warm, warm, warm!! Perfect length. Excellent quality! Can't take it off! It is an athletic cut , so I sized up so I can wear layers if need be.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seriously Warm Coat Before I comment on this coat, a bit of background: I am a wuss who grew up in Atlanta and recently moved to the arctic tundra of Wisconsin. I am have zero tolerance for cold...I am the type of person who needs a sweater if it's under 75 degrees. So when it came time to purchase a coat for the Wisconsin weather, I knew I needed something INTENSE. I am happy to report that this coat fits the bill. The last few days, we have had wind chills in the single digits in my midwestern city, and to my astonishment and joy, I found myself SWEATING in this coat. That's right, I went outside in a windchill of 9 degrees and SWEAT. And I was not doing intense physical activity either...just walking along at a leisurely pace. I am so thrilled...I really thought I'd have to shell out on an expensive Canada Goose coat to get this kind of warmth...not so! The hood is also very good - very warm and stays put on my head even in the wind. Very pleasing! As for fit, I am 105 lbs, 5'3, and ordered the XS. I would say it runs a little bit small. Sleeves are a good length, but it's slightly snug in the torso. I can (and always will) wear the coat with a thick sweater underneath, but it's definitely a little on the tight side. This doesn't bother me, but if you're looking for something a bit roomier you might want to move up a size. That said, the advantage of the snugness is that the coat does not have the marshmallow sack effect of many other puffer coats, so I'm pleased. I do have one annoyance with this coat (hence the 4 stars): the velcro "snaps." I would honestly rather there be no snaps at all than these velcro abominations. They close on their own and when you're trying to unzip the coat it can be a hassle having to separate all the velcro. This is annoying but not a big enough con to even consider returning the coat in my opinion. In sum: if you're looking for an extremely warm winter coat that is somewhat stylish at an affordable price, you can't go wrong here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter walker Loved this coat except I had to send it back without ever trying it out because the zipper would not open completely. Several people tried. It think it would have been a wonderful coat! Sad really!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the jacket I was looking for I was looking for a new winter coat to keep me warm in Chicago winters. It has not been super cold here yet but I can tell already with the Down and Omni heat I'll be pretty toasty. The hood is also very warm. The fit was true to size if you plan on wearing hoodies or think layers underneath. My only complaint would be the zipper is a bit hard to zip and the Velcro. Snaps instead of Velcro would have been a better choice. But over all I love this coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful coat, just not for me This coat is beautiful, it's just bright white and very shiny. Overall, the coat appears to be very well made and super warm. Unfortunately, it's just too white and too shiny for me. I wish it came in a matte black.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing coat! (runs a little big) I'm a west coaster living on the east coast now, needless to say I'm basically scared of the winter. This coat is amazing, it's warm and functional and just the perfect all around coat I have been looking for for a while! Only thing I'd warn about is I feel like the sizing guide is a bit off. I'm between a S and a M, and went with a medium because the product says it runs small. I'm 5'8" and 145 pounds and I wish I had gotten the small coat, the medium is just a bit too roomy. But since these coats are selling out like hotcakes and I cant return it, I'm going to just stick with the medium.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Been looking for a coat like this for a while now! Living in the Midwest you know winter is hard & cold. I have a few other warm coats but I was having trouble finding a longer down filled coat that didn't cost me a lot or that was super puffy. I have been looking for a few seasons now & when I saw this one I couldn't pass on trying it out. So very happy I got it! It's perfect....the size (I got a M & it fits perfectly), the style & fit (not too puffy & I can move in it really well to play with my kiddos & it is the great combination of active & a nice looking coat), the options for the hood (no hood at all &/or no fur, which is perfect for me b/c I'm not a fur on the hood person) & it is crazy warm but not overly warm. The PERFECT coat for toughing out an IA/MN winter....and I'm not a winter person at all! The color is also wonderful (I got the red & it's a great pop of color during a boring time of the year). I hope they get more in...my mom wants one & I would like one in black too! Buy this coat!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a longer version of the Lay D Down Jacket I have to admit I am a little disappointed because I thought this was just a longer version of the Lay D Down jacket, which I have 3 of (black, sea salt, and hot pink), alas it is not. I usually research a product extensively before purchasing and this jacket was no different except I could not find interior shots of the jacket. I guess my fault for assuming since both jackets share the same name save for "mid-length version", they would be identical. There is no large interior google pocket, under arm zipper venting system, piping in the seams or contrast piping around the one interior breast pocket. Also, all my other jackets say Omni Sheild Advance Repellency right above the Columbia label which the mid-length version does not. Another thing I noticed is that I purchased 2 jackets from Columbia and the other 2 from other sites and for some reason the one direct from the manufacture does not seem as puffy/filled. One of the jackets from Columbia I've had for 3 years and it still hasn't "filled out" so it not just the packaging. All things considered, this is my favorite winter coat I have found. I loved it so much I jumped at the chance to buy the longer version for such a great Black Friday price. I purchased the black one and I like that it is a matte black, I feel the shiny versions look cheap. For reference I am 5'6 and 240 lbs. I have long arms and torso but short legs and wide hips. I usually wear at least 3 layers (tank top, t-shirt or flannel, and a hoodie) under my coat and am able to zip up my jacket. It is a bit snug and I am not able to sit down with the jackets zipped. Wish this came in plus size. This version does cover my butt and it gives a nice silhouette. I had another more expensive down coat from a more "popular brand" from the North but I sold it because the sleeves were abnormally short and the lining/quilting was so cheaply done for an almost $400 coat. When it comes to quality craftsmanships and functionality for my lifestyle Columbia does it right. I have a pair of 15 year old snow boots that still look and work beautifully. I would recommend this coat at the sale price but not at full price with the aforementioned features missing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sleeves are too long I got the black one XS size. I like the jacket overall. It seems super warm and the quality is good. I like the length of the jacket. It is not too long and not to short. It's above the knee. But the sleeves were too long for me. Also the down part of the jacket is weirdly round and kind of big, which i don't like much. I haven't wear it in cold weather yet. Generally, i like the jacket and will keep it.
Date published: 2016-12-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I just got the jacket and love it. It is classy look, with a sporty edge. I'm between a 4-6 size. I ordered medium because of layering, but probably could have worn the small. It does not look bad, but the so 4 would have been more fitted. The length is what I love too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've wanted this coat for over a year! Asked for this coat last Christmas, had to wait a year, but she's totally worth it. Warm, snuggly, long, everything I need. Love the construction, you can customize this coat to fit you perfectly. I just wish it came in fire engine red, then my "snowflake" would get a sister.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical and stylish Love this jacket! I wanted a jacket that was both warm and fashionable. And this jacket is just that. It has the Omni Heat technology that provides the warmth. And it is slightly fitted in the waist, which gives an elegant silhouette.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Jacket! This jacket fits perfectly. I'm 5'10" and it's long enough. It protects me from the wind. No cold air or wind gets through. It's very feminine but functional. I would recommend this coat to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'd give this 10 stars if possible I was looking for a longer coat to supplement my coat from AnotherWellKnownSportswearCompany that only hit at my hips. This coat gets 5 starrs in all categories, even flattering fit. You get all the warmth, and less of the bulk. I can drive without having to unzip or remove the coat which is a huge plus. Don't let the non-Michelin man thickness fool you. It holds up in rain very well, and even the faux fur trim bounces back after it dries. In the recent blizzard I took a walk to the store and stayed dry and warm. I felt no wind through the jacket or coming up the bottom of it. The hood (no drawstring) was incredibly secure even with 50mph+ winds. I've worn this with 9 degree days and -15 degree windchill and was incredibly impressed. The sleeve thumbholes are a big plus for me, and the length of sleeves are perfect. The coat IS fitted so do measure yourself, and buy according to Columbia's size chart for the largest part of your body or else you'll have to exchange. I'm 5'0" 120lbs, 32 bust, athletic build with some hips. I got the small and fits like a gem just above my knees.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous coat! I have owned this coat now for almost two months, and I think it's great! This is the first product I have owned with the omniheat lining, and it is SO WARM. I have worn it in single digit temps and was toasty warm. If the temperature is "only" in the twenties, I can drive a half hour to work without turning on the heat in my vehicle. I am 5' 2" inches tall and I wear 0-2, depending upon the brand. Many times I find that the Columbia extra small is a bit big for me. This coat, however, fits well. It is pleasantly snug when I wear multiple layers. The overall length and sleeve length are ideal. I live in NW Montana. If you live in a very cold area like me, I highly recommend this coat!

Date published: 2016-01-04
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic! Runs true to size... I'm 5'3"/105 lbs and the small fits great, leaves enough room for a thick sweater/hoodie/layers underneath. Overall length hits about 4inches above my knees and I love the drawstring hem to keep the cold wind from creeping in! Sleeves are about an inch too long but it's not a big deal bc they are adjustable around the wrist. I absolutely love the soft cuffs with thumb holes! If I had any complaints, I wish the hood was a bit bigger but it still does the job well. I also wish the double zipper feature had snap buttons instead of velcro to prevent snagging on scarves/knitted sweaters. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. I wore this for the first time in 30 degree weather which included high winds and light freezing rain for 5 hours and I stayed completely dry and warm! Thank you Columbia for consistently providing superb products! The first coat I purchased from Columbia about 10 years ago still works great and has maintained it's quality!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chicago Winter Coat? This is a nice coat, however it has not been warm enough for the cold weather in Chicago. It does seem to block the wind from moving through the coat, which is a must in Chicago, but the overall warmth of the coat is not enough as I was a little cold. Its a nice coat, but I'd recommend this coat for a little warmer climate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty and functional A lovely parka that hits just above mid-thigh for me (5'8"). The color is more berry/purple tinted than in the picture and adds a nice splash of color over the rest of your outfit. I tested it out in mid-20s weather over a thin sweater and it did its job nicely. I expect I'll have to layer up a bit more once winter really gets under way. The texture is a little more rough than typical down jackets which I actually like, but I need to test it out in the snow to see how waterproof/resistant it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket! I live at high elevation in WY where it is often windy and cold. This jacket is really lightweight and fits close to the body so you can be active in it, but it definitely cuts the wind and cold, and seems to be waterpoof as well. I have not purchased a new winter coat in a long time, and I could not have made a better choice. Love this jacket!! For those of you who have broader shoulders (like I do), sizing up is recommended; the waist nips in enough that the rest of the jacket will not be too large if you do. Surprisingly, the length fit in both sizes I tried (M and L), as Columbia brand tends to be for shorter gals--no tall sizes. I am 5'8" and this fit my arm length just fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Model Wear Hi, The jacket was great. It just didn't fit me comfortably. I'm purchasing a jacket for traveling & casual wear. Living here in South Tx it doesn't get really cold. It's a fitted jacket for a person without no curves......... That's not my case. As the saying goes "Everything is big in Tx"... Curvy, I must add... Customer Service was outstanding, as well. Thanks...Happy Holidays!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this coat!! I am so happy with this purchase. I was worried that a puffy coat without a belt would make me look like a marshmallow, but there is definitely still enough shape to this coat. I am 5'3, so length is also a concern, but I love where this coat hits me. I have lived through rough winters in Ohio and Colorado, and this coat would definitely keep me warm in both. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, Dry, Adjustable, Attractive - all reasons why this is my 3rd Columbia coat in 30 years! I like this coat very much and highly recommend it for moderate to brutal cold days, whether you're active or just getting around town. USEFUL: It is meant to be casual, but I have cross country ski'd and gone for regular 5-10 miler runs in it while on vacation (I like that it keeps my bum protected from the cold!). It has already proven to be wind and water proof as well. Pockets are useful and well placed, and I like the adjustable cuffs: any style glove can be worn without worries of snow up the sleeves. The adjustable waist and hood are also well thought out as they keep out the cold and wet, no matter what your size or activity level. COMFORTABLE FIT: The coat fits snug and has a feminine flair. If you have ample chest, you may want to order a size up. I am usually a small but have gained a bit of weight so I ordered a Medium and it fits perfectly. I'm 5'6 / 140lbs / 39hips / 30waist / 36C bust for reference. COLUMBIA TOUGH (The Chuck Norris of Outerwear?!) This is my 3rd Columbia coat in 30 years - and I've only needed 3 thus far. The first my parents bought me in 1987 - had to twist their arm to buy me the interchange Bugaboo for skiing, and I still wear it today around the garage. The 2nd was bought in 2005 and I still wear it as well. It's white (very similar to this coat but no down) so after 10 seasons of every day wear and then some, the cuffs, zipper and bottom edges just aren't sparkly white any longer. The coat is still perfect for playing in the snow/sledding with the kids. Columbia jackets are truly the 'Chuck Norris' of outerwear, I'm stoked to see how well this latest edition performs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Warm and Toasty I love this coat. It is perfectly cut to shape your body without being too tight or constricting. The thumb holes are a nice touch. I was expecting the coat to be a bit softer though, like the "buttery" description it gave. I am happy with the coat overall.
