Women's Sandy River™ Cargo Short - Plus Size is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I love these shorts so much I bought them in every color. I wear them when kayaking. I have taken an unintentional swim and been rained on in them. They are comfortable, cool and fast drying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great outdoor short These shorts are so fantastic that I've bought them in more than one color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cargo shorts I bought 2 pairs of these great cargo shorts when I was in Florida 4 years ago. I wear them constantly so I just ordered 2 more pairs. They wash & dry beautifully, are very comfortable, always look good! Since I'm a "full figure" gal, finding great shorts is a challenge! These cargo shorts are a great find!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cooling shorts These shorts are great for hiking or even walking on humid days. I haven't had the chance to wear them yet. They are very light weigh and have the pockets on the side as cargo pants do. The pockets are very small and can't be used for much at all. They will not be big enough for what I carry in them. I hope next year Columbia will have the pockets be more useful. I have to walk using 2 walking sticks so my hands are full. Other cargo pants I have I carry water 1 for me 1 for my dog. I have her snacks in a side pocket I have my wallet and phone in other pockets. Larger pocket would be more helpful. Would have given it 5 stars if the pockets were more useful

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent quality AND in my size In regular clothes I usually wear a 16, but as outdoor clothes always seem to be sized small, I ordered both 1x and 2x. The 2x was actually too big, though still wearable. The 1x fits reasonably well, though I would say that the rise is just a little on the short side. The leg openings are, however, extremely wide, and have me wondering if I will take off like a kite when it's windy. That and the position of the waist (lower than the true waist) make the shorts less flattering than they might be. Time will tell if these aspects will affect how they feel with more extended use. The pockets seem reasonably useful, though the main ones could be deeper (why are the pockets in women's clothes so much smaller proportionally than those in men's?). The smaller pocket on the leg without the zipper has me wondering what I would keep in there, as it gapes open when I move, and I feel certain I will lose something if I use it. The zippered one is excellent; I would have liked two of them. They are extremely lightweight but appear strong, and are well-made. No comment so far on the durability. I bought them for mountain use - I like the shorter inseam especially for hiking in warm weather - but I'm sure to use them for water sports too. I'm very grateful that Columbia recognizes the fact that not everyone who wants to be active in the great outdoors is slim to medium build. Keep it up! More offerings, please! You are one of the few companies still doing this. Most of the time we are reduced to wearing men's clothing, which fits in some ways but not others... I'm sure more women (average size and larger) would be active if they could easily get hold of technical yet still flattering clothing they can actually wear. Kudos!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would choose it again Lightweight, comfortable and quick drying. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good shorts Love the shorts. They're lightweight and comfy. Great for hiking or just touring around. Wore these all over Bali and Thailand and loved that they were perfect in humid conditions, but also were rugged when hiking. They don't stain. As others have mentioned --the belt is poor quality and don't live up to the other materials. The pockets could be designed a bit different so things don't fall out of the front pocket --but overall great shorts, especially when you buy them on sale.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from CA's new shorts The shorts fit nicely, the fabric was great, the real problem was the inseam was too short for a plus size short. I measured it and the inseam was no longer than 6", not good for a plus size!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from True to size in waist and hip; but too wide in the legs I ordered Sandy River Cargo shorts in size 2X. I was so excited to see plus-size shorts in water-phobic fabric, in colors other than black! I also love the fabric belt for a customized fit at the waist, and the pockets. Unfortunately, I found that the shorts are cut with overly wide legs, as so many pants and shorts for larger women are. The excess fabric, hanging straight down from the widest part of the hips, just makes me look even bigger than I actually am. I had to return all the Sandy Rivers. Luckily, I found some more-flattering Columbia shorts on a different website - I think they were a previous year's model since they are not on Columbia's own site now. Hope they get the cut of the thighs for their plus-size clothes figured out better for next year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Comfortable My new go-to short. Very comfortable. I just wish they had a built in liner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sandy River Cargo Pants Like these shorts. Light-weight-take up hardly any room in suitcase, wash very well. Took to Costa Rica in humid conditions-performed better than I expected. I bought a few more pairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome shorts! The Women's Sandy River Cargo Shorts are awesome! They have plenty of hip room and also fit at the waist. It's rare to find plus size shorts that fit so perfectly. In addition, they really do protect you from the sun. I bought three pairs and recently bought three more. They are definitely a "must-buy" if you like to be outdoors a lot. They dry very quickly if they get wet, and that's a big plus when walking along the beach.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice for boating These shorts are very comfy, the belt however, needs to go. Oh my word the belt is awful, but the shorts are a nice. I like the length, the material is quick drying. I know quick drying is usually thin material, but these seem very thin. They are great for boating or maybe yardwork. While I have not had any issues with them, because they feel so thin, I hope the material will hold up. For me the waist is a little big. While I do have a smaller waist than hip/butt proportion, this seems a little more off than usual. Please find a better quality belt, that belt is just terrible. The belt went straight into the trash.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Odd fitting shorts I really wanted these shorts to work and tried them in different sizes and styles (non cargo). All returned. On all sizes I found them to be either tight at the waist with excessive amount of fabric in the leg. Or ok at the waist but so much fabric. The shorts remind me of culottes, cinched at the waist but flowing through the leg. I find it to be an unflattering look. Did love the color options though. Would prefer a short option that is more tailored and less baggy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Comfortable Shorts Shorts are lightweight and airy. The fit is true to size and are extremely comfortable even outside in high temperatures. I would strong recommend these shorts if enjoy comfort, cool and comforts shorts

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous shorts I bought these shorts for a recent trip to Thailand and couldn't be happier with their performance! They repelled dirt and didn't show sweat - it was extremely hot and they stayed comfortable, didn't stick to wet skin and looked good even in the 98 degree heat! Fit was very comfortable and true to size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts These shorts fit well, very comfortable for fishing, and all around versatile shorts. I usually don't wear the belt, but they stay up just fine.
Date published: 2015-05-09
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sporty shorts Comfortable fitting, nice longer length, quick to dry. Slenderizing! Good for hiking, swimming, or just a casual lunch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite shorts! I have these shorts in several colors and even a couple of sizes. They are my favorite shorts! They're light, breathable and dry fast. I love the zippered & velcro pockets too. I totally recommend these shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These shorts are great! Ok, I have 8 pair of these. This year's model has been slightly resized, they are MORE comfortable, less binding across the backside when bending over. YAY. They dry quickly. Things I'd like improvement on..... bigger pockets please. I prefer to ditch the purse, and neither pocket is big enough for my cell phone, and will barely hold my smallest wallet. Now, if they do go with bigger pockets they will need to strengthen the elastic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Work Shorts I wear these shorts when working out on the Lawn Maintenance crews. They are light weight yet durable and have great movement for pushing mowers and weeding in the gardens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and functional I am very pleased with this pair of shorts. I have a "curvy" shape and have difficulty getting a pair of trail shorts to fit properly allowing good movement. These fit the bill. The elastic waist allows a good level of comfort. The length of the short is sufficient and the leg opening is generous without being overly big. These shorts are what I expected from a size 16W. This is the second pair that I have purchased. Very happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Favorite Love these shorts! Imagine my dismay when I burned a hole in my favorite shorts...just before a trip! Ordered two pair of these cause I am not taking chances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Selection Tried these, loved them, and over time I have ordered every color. I like the other Sandy River elastic waist without the belt too for other purposes and hope you will offer them again in the extended size as well. Both styles are made so well, please don't compromise on the quality. I like the leg length but would be ok with a longer one as others have said. Hoping to see them back in your selections soon. They are also wonderful for travel, lightweight for packing and non wrinkle. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from new to this brand I am an elderly, large woman and I think I am going to love these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wide legs For the most part I like these shorts. The legs are a little bit too wide, other than that they are nice, light weight and dry fast.
Date published: 2014-02-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from try them on I ordered the same size I have in other Columbia capri pants and the shorts fit much differently--tighter all over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I expected I bought these to wear over padded biking liners. They worked great. Nice and light weight but sturdy. I would like them to be an inch or two longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts I do a lot of sailing and have 6 pairs. Wish I could get shirts and bras made in this fabric. I was in the BVI for 11 days. I used them as swimsuit bottoms. They wash easily and dry quickly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Colorado River Shorts I purchased these at the lst minute as I was packing for my whitewater 7 day raft trip. They were perfect. Quick dry, tough and looked reasonably good on my plus size hips. They were roomy and comfortable so they worked well day after day without showing dirt. I highly recommend for active outdoor wear for a plus size woman. They could be another inch or two in length.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit & material I bought two pair (tan & ink) for a trip to Costa Rica. They seem to be very light weight, and I know that they will dry quickly in case of sudden rains there. As others have said, the belt is fairly flimsy, so I took it off. The fit is perfect for me. I am 5'8" and overweight in the thigh area, but they have ample leg room and fit well with the elastic in the waist. As others have said, I would like to see these maybe a bit longer for sitting down, but for hiking they seem to be fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from pockets! Cargo pants without hip pockets - Seriously?? None of the pockets in these shorts are large enough for a wallet. I don't buy cargo shorts as a fashion statement, I want them for pockets. As a plus size woman my choices in shorts are very limited, but these are just not functional. I am returning them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific shorts for walking!! These cargos are great for walking, even in the heat and humidity of south Alabama! They don't ride up as you walk and the fabric breathes great so you stay cool! Love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I love the shorts. They are light and comfortable. I wish they were a couple of inches longer though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good buy Picked these up for summer hiking. Ran slightly small but not surprised for plus size clothes. Good length and light weight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Personal Preference These were just what I was looking for, but just a tad too short for my liking. There is nothing wrong with the product....just I like my shorts longer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Shorts Excellent shorts! Fabric and fit are very good. Very comfortable. I ordered more. They are roomy enough for sports. Cool enough for hot Florida summers. Good for bike riding, gardening, hiking, tennis and relaxing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lightweight shorts that are very breathable Purchased these shorts for summer and was surprised of how well they fit the run a little big which is nice. I just wish they had these in more colors. I will be buying more of these and I am also looking to try the pants as well.
Date published: 2013-03-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall good product The material is thinner than what they used to be and so they tend to wrinkle a little more than what I would like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bucket List-Fishing shorts This is my first pair of Columbia Sandy River™ Cargo shorts. Love the feel and fit...very comfortable. This black pair will be my fishing shorts for Hatteras Island this summer. At age 60 I have started the 3rd ACT and working on my Bucket List. Enjoyed shopping online. Glad you carry the extended sizes. Also thanks for the coupon, just used it to purchase a pair of Arch Cape™ III Knee Pant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice but too large While the misses size XL are too small, these were much too large in the Womans' size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from shorts Shorts are great. Easy to pack for trip and can wash and wear so much less to pack. This is my 5th pair..I found I was wearing my black ones so much bought 2nd pair..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Shorts Would prefer that there was velcro on the pockets however, unlike previous owners of this style, I didn't buy a pair that included the when it was available. I figure I can just sew my own velcro on at this point though it would be nice if they added it back in order to keep things "locked in". Wore them on a hiking trip over the weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park. They were very comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shorts I ordered these shorts before a weekend of sailing in the hot Texas sun. They fit great, dried quickly and were most comfortable. I'll be ordering another pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best again I have been wearing Columbia active wear shorts for 15 years. I am STILL using 2 pairs I bought in 1997.They are faded but still wonderful. I have 3 others that are at least 7 yrs. old & still tip top. I hope my new ones wear as well. THANK YOU for carrying 1X etc. Just becasue I am not thin doesn't mean I do nothing. I will be buying again soon. The only reason there was a time gap is that no one carries your plus size shorts in the Trinity, Fl. area. I was told you no longer made the plus size. Finally, I turned to the internet & voila- there they were!!! I am so thrilled. Thanks again! E L
