Women’s Sandy River™ Cargo Short 4.1 5 66 66
POCKETS I love the quality and length of the cargo shorts and the colors they come in but would like to have larger pockets, especially the zippered one. I will be going on an expedition and more pocket space would be great especially since we will be away from the ship quite a bit. Another plus is the quick drying fabric the shorts are made of. January 26, 2014
Light and comfortable I wear shorts for work, 8 months of the year. They fit well and are very comfortable. The only problem is static. Maybe when the summer returns the static will disappear. Otherwise they wash and wear well. November 29, 2013
Excellent shorts- These are very functional and about the right lenght. I will say they do run a bit on the small side but i like my shorts a little loose. They wear and wash very well. October 9, 2013
Favorite kayaking shorts! I purchased 3 pair several years ago and just got some more. they are durable, comfortable and dry quickly. Love the zipper picket for my ID and some cash to take on the river. The other pocket has an overlapping flap on the top and is easily reachable while you kayak. They did make the zipper pocket a perfect size but one suggestion to the company is to put in a longer zipper like they had before and velcro on the other pocket that overlaps. October 6, 2013
Best in shorts These shorts come from a line of the very best shorts ever made. They are sun protected, durable, quick dry, and have zippered pockets. Thank you very much for these very high quality shorts. September 30, 2013
Great shorts I have an old pair of Columbia water shorts and have been looking for another. I love how light they are, perfect for hot summer days. So glad to find this directly on the website, making my search much easier. The lightweight fabric, many pockets, elasticized waistband and inseam length are why these shorts are so perfect for me. The only change I'd like to see is to replace the mesh pockets with the fabric so keys don't snag. Otherwise, don't change a thing! September 20, 2013
My favorite workout wear I bought one pair of the Sandy River shorts and I love their light weight and quick dry quality. I wear them for workouts, as boardshorts in the ocean and pool, for walking and just around the house. The zip pocket is great. Came with a belt, but I find that useless. I immediately bought two more pair in different colors. The fit is great, although an inch or two shorter would make leg lifts easier. September 20, 2013
Cargo Shorts I have an old pair of these shorts that I bought years ago and have used for exercise since. I love them, they're the right length and perfect fit. I was excited to see these advertised since I have been trying to find a second pair. As other reviewers noted, these shorts are just not quite as good. The length is shorter by about 3/4 of an inch. The crotch is just that much shorter as well and the material is a little lighter. I agree that Columbia should bring back the previous model. September 14, 2013
very functional Light weight shorts with pockets deep enough to be useful. Good color for not showing dirt. I've had an old version of these for many years, only buying new ones for a different size. I expect to be just as happy with these. September 1, 2013
Love the material These shorts have a wonderful vibrant color. Material is lighweight and very comfortable. Unfortunately I am a "petite" so the small size is very very roomy. But I bought them for yard work and they are perfect. August 30, 2013
Se9f Simply the best, for hiking, camping, kayaking, anything outdoors. The fit is great August 22, 2013
disappointed in sizing I love Columbia Sportswear. I was, however, very disappointed in the sizing of these shorts. I have two pairs from several years ago that are the same size as I purchased recently. When the package arrived I compared the two - the new product is over 2" smaller in the hips. And the inseam may measure 6" but only by a hair! Way too skimpy with the fabric. I will keep looking to find a Columbia product that measures up to the older product. July 25, 2013
extremely comfortable Great fit, nice looking, and great quality that you would expect from Columbia. July 14, 2013
Best Active Shorts Ever! These shorts function on so many different levels. Hiking, walking [right side pocket perfect size for an ipod], gardening and just plain lazing around. Durability that can't be beat. My first pair that I bought years ago just got thrown out because after many, many washing, the elastic band broke down and they didn't stay up anymore. Oh well.... they were perfect while they lasted! July 12, 2013
Just what I was looking for These shorts are exactly what I have been looking for. The fit is true to size, color choices are good. They wash beautifully. I actually bought a second pair for myself and one for a friend. July 11, 2013
ms. your product is also great on the golf course-cool-non sticking-lots of pockets-can you make this in white? July 2, 2013
Fishing shorts I work at a Fish Camp for children and these shorts are perfect! The pockets are funtional without being to bulky and the material dries very quickly. Perfect outdoor shorts! July 2, 2013
Gonna have to return due to sizing Unfortunately, the sizing of these Columbia shorts is not consistent between the 2 pairs I ordered, or with the previous Columbia cargo short I'm trying to replace. Very stingy with fabric through the draw. Not suitable for conventional fit, unless you like "low riders" June 20, 2013
Looks good, not as functional as I'd like. Fits well, comfortable, would like an inch longer. Pockets are too shallow - my cell phone falls out evey time I sit down. June 15, 2013
Disappointed in fit I have many Columbia shorts/pants and I'm disappointed that they all fit differently. I am 5'7" and 135 and usually wear a 6. My long hiking pants are a 8 and my cotton Columbia shorts are size Med but the sandy river shorts cut short in the inseam even though they claim to be a 6 inseam. I have other waterproof hiking ones that fit very loose in the Med and are much longer even though they say the are 6 inseam. It would be great if they all had a style name or number so I can figure out which ones work and which ones do not. It's annoying to have to return items so often. The quality seem very nice but since I sent them back, I can not rate the wear and tear of the shorts. May 14, 2013
Comfortable, great value, perfect for summer sports. Bought these shorts for a houseboat trip. Not only do they look sharp, but they are quick drying and have deep pockets. The adjustable belt is a plus as well. May 12, 2013
Fabulous! This short is cool and comfortable beyond compare . They are well made and suitable for a variety of activities. I ordered several additional pairs. May 3, 2013
What a disappointment! Why did you ever change this style? Please bring back the origianl style and fit. Til then I'll be shopping elsewhere. May 1, 2013
Give Me Back My Old Sandy River Cargo Shorts In hopes that someone at Columbia is reading these reviews, I have resorted to rating these shorts. I have worn this style Columbia shorts since they came out; sadly, I am left with no choice but to shop other brands. This newer version is shorter in the rise; tighter in the crotch; and much less comfortable & durable. Less material = less functionality for people who actually wear these for active sports. One would think Columbia knows this, right? I can only speak for myself, but even after I ordered a size up to compensate, the shorter legs and tighter crotch make these pretty useless for kayaking, hiking, etc. Over the years of the original version, I have probably spent $3-4 thousand on other Columbia items, since I sought out the brand to buy new colors and replacements of these shorts - tops, sweaters, pants, crops, shoes, etc. Sadly, Columbia is no longer my go-to brand for upgrading my active spring/summer wardrobe, now that my old reliable shorts are no longer reliable. I guess if your most strenuous activity in these shorts is a stop at Starbucks, they might work for you. But I cannot recommend them otherwise. *sigh* April 25, 2013
Bring back the old version! Well I knew better but I bought another pair of the new style and they didn't last a month. In the past few years I have purchased 5 pairs and have had to throw them all away! The snaps fall off or break just after a few months. And like others the belt is no helps at all. I still have 3 very old pair, back with no zippers or snaps and I still wear the same ones 365 days a year! These are my go to shorts. They still look great, love the length and have never had a problem with the old ones. Columbia, please bring back the old style so that I may purchase at least one in every color!!! April 23, 2013
Good water shorts, not as good as in the past I've been wearing this type of shorts for several years and love the material. For Florida beach life, they are my everyday attire for running around. I haven't found any other brand that I like as well for the price. That being said, these run smaller than the previous Sandy River cargo shorts and have less roomy pockets. I don't use the belts, but if you do, there's not much to them. April 4, 2013
Perfect I just bought 2 pairs of these shorts. They are the perfect length, and they don't creep up when you sit down. The material is lightweight and breathable. They do run a little large and have large legs. I threw the belts away and ordered some from buffalo designs- the belt loops will accommodate other belts. The shorts can easily be dressed up or down. I plan to order the other colors. Love them. March 14, 2013
Size wise falling in between I ordered two pair of Sandy River shorts for an upcoming trip to Belize and Guatemala. After reading the reviews and the specs, I decided to get mediums (I"m 5'3" and about 133 lbs.) I thought they were pretty comfy, but hubby said they were kinda loose in the rear. I had time before the trip so I reordered both in small. Those were just a "scooch" too snug in the rise. Back and forth I went, comfy or sleek? I finally went with the sleek, small fit. These shorts are wonderful. The style is very nice, not too cargo-y. Love the self belt, too. February 26, 2013
Easy Wear These shorts are comfy but the belt is a little cheap. They look wrinkled all the time. They wash well and feel cool but don't look all that great. They are functional and that is about all I can say about them. February 12, 2013
Great Product I love these shorts. I wear them to the gym and on hiking and kayaking trips with the boy scouts. Great pockets for gear. Material dries fast when it gets wet. I will be getting another pair to add to the two pairs I have already. February 11, 2013
Fast dry It drys fast and pratical. I've like it so much that bougth 4 diferent colours. January 22, 2013
Great shorts Comfortable, fit well. Ordered two since this style is my "go to" for all summer activities. January 21, 2013
Sandy River Cargo Shorts Excellent fit. Lightweight material. Easy to wash and quick to dry. Very comfortable. Great to wear on a hike or over a swimsuit. Liked my first pair so much I bought three more in different colors. These are now my daily "live-in" shorts. September 30, 2012
the shorts are great just tooo short for the cost fo the product i was disappointed i wish they were 8 in long i know the product details say 6 but i have an old pair and they are 6 but somehow are longer September 18, 2012
Not the shorts for me I bought these and the cross on over shorts for a recent back packing trip. I knew I only needed one pair and these are the ones that went back. They fit quite long almost to my knees and run large. Unless you need to the extra length for the type of hiking you are doing I would recommend the cross on over shorts instead. All in all they do seem like good quality shorts, perhaps try 2 sizes. September 12, 2012
Disappointed I felt that the quality of the material and belt was low. It seemed flimsey, not a quality piece of apparel. They are going back. September 4, 2012
Best short ever! These shorts are so adaptable to every kind of outdoor activity. Fit is really good. Not too tight, not to baggy. It would be nice if they were just a wee bit longer though. August 30, 2012
Not as good as the old model I bought this pair of shorts last summer, in tan and lime green and loved them so much I decided to buy them in red. The color is great but I don't like the fit as well as last year's model. The zipper pocket is smaller and there's no Velcro closing on the other pocket. I like the belt better but other than that I do not think the shorts being sold this year are as nice as last year's. August 19, 2012
From the Mall to the Kayak Very well designed sorts for all occasions. The design is comfort blended with style. Great for paddling, hiking or casual outings. August 19, 2012
Out with the New and keep with the Old Liked the old version. Would like a key loop at the waist to keep the keys away from the water when wading in water or playing with dogs so the key fob doesn't get wet. August 18, 2012
Very poor construction The Sandy River Shorts by Columbia used to be great. I used them for all sorts of summer outdoor activity - hiking and canoeing. This year it was time to replace some very old pairs. I purchased 2 pairs from Campmor and 2 directly from Columbia. Snaps came off (as in popped off onto the floor while just walking) on the first wear of 2 pairs. The center back seam ripped after the first wear on the other 2 pair. I sent 2 pairs back to Columbia and explained to them what happened. They sent me ONE new pair and that snap popped off as well. Needless to say I am moving on... August 7, 2012
Perfect for all my activities I've had the Sandy River Shorts in every color and love them and decided to try out this Sandy River Cargo Short. They lived up to their name as I loved wearing them and found them even more functional for work or for activities where I didn't want to carry a bag/purse for my phone, id, etc. because I could make use of the zip pockets on the leg. They are so light weight and comfortable that they are all I want to wear anymore. I like the Sandy River Cargo because they look a little more professional for my type of work with the belt/pockets but still just as comfortable as the regular sandy river's. Wish they were available in more colors when I ordered them but I've been very happy with the dark green and khaki colors I have since they are so versatile. August 5, 2012
Cargo Shorts Have Less, Which is Not More This was once a product with handy, reliable features. The present version possesses impressive color tones and look. However there is less in features, which means it is a less functional product. For example, the pockets are too narrow, there is no longer the nifty velcro pocket either, which offered more security of belongings inside the pocket. Also, it's noticeable that less fabric has been used to make the shorts. I look forward to a return to what wasn't broken and didn't need fixing. July 18, 2012
Sandy River Cargo Shorts I purchased three pairs of these at least five years ago and they are wonderful. The fit is perfect. I just bought the newer version and was disappointed. The older shorts had a belt that was an integral part of the shorts whereas the new ones have a belt I discarded as it is too long and a distraction. Having read the reviews I bought a size larger and found that the legs are a bit wide but I would rather have a loose fit. Even with a larger size that hangs a bit lower, they are still an inch shorter than my older shorts. I love the material and for this reason alone, I would continue to purchase, but the cut and the quality are not as good as in the past. July 12, 2012
Extremely Comfortable These shorts are extremely comfortable and have a great fit! They have become my favorite shorts this summer and I don't want to take them off. I highly recommend these shorts for anyone looking for a casual comfort pair of shorts. July 3, 2012
My favorite shorts I pretty much wear these all summer long. I think I have just about every color. They are so comfortable they do not cling to you when it's hot ,they dry fast if they get wet. The material is not hot on your skin when it's hot & humid outside. They wash up really nice. Best shorts ever highly reccommend! June 28, 2012
Columbia shorts Love the shorts. Lightweight and dries easily June 23, 2012
Sandy River Cargo Shorts. The Shorts are light weight and wash and dry beautifully. I prefer them a little loose so I ordered a size larger. They fit great and look very nice June 22, 2012
Great shorts! The fit is exactly what I needed. Loose in the thighs so I don't feel constricted. They dry so quickly too; less than 2 hours outside hanging and they are ready to wear again! June 19, 2012
great pants I love the feel and look. Will be ordering again June 19, 2012
