Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 60 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Run Small I love these pants, but they run SO small, I wear a 0 at Eddie Bauer and got these in a 2, they are way too small. I would need at least a size 4. Be careful! September 15, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good hiking pant but could use a belt I bought these pants for my 21 y o daughter. Pants fit but are a bit big at the waist. She is 125lbs and 5'4". She does encounter this at times. It would have been nice to have a belt as some of the men's pants do. Overall, nice pants. Great quality. Easy to unzip the pants off and on. August 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect in Every Way Finest hiking pants available. They fit perfectly, wash and dry easily and are comfortable in warm and cold climates. I own both the gray and the tan and if Columbia decides to make them in another color, I'll buy a third pair. August 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love them-Great for travel I love these pants. They fit like a dream-the stretch and light-weight material make them totally comfortable and move with me instead of against me. They are great for travel-pack well, being convertible, they serve as long pants and shorts. Drawstrings at hem are great, especially for hiking. Only things I'd change-put a flap on back pockets, be able to roll up to be capri's, also. Then PERFECT! July 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Loved these pants and bought another pair Over the July 4th holiday I bought these pants at the outlets. I thought they would be great "mowing the lawn and working in the garden" pants. Monday morning after dressing to mow the grass I realized it was very humid outside and the grass was wet. I ran errands instead and would mow later in the day. It rained so the errand list continued. I was halfway thru the day and I realized I had on my "mowing" pants. I did not have the problem others have had with the thighs being tight. If your hips are larger but your thighs are smaller as mine are, you will be very comfortable in these pants. I drove half an hour each way running errands and didn't notice any pulling. I liked the snaps on the pants and found them easy to take on and off. The pants were so comfortable that I took a detour on my way home to the Columbia outlet and purchased the last pair they had on the rack. Now I have "mowing pants" and an additional pair as well. Rated 1 out of 5 by Women's Saturday Trail™ Stretch Convt. Pant I don't recommend this pant to anyone. I have few pants from Columbia and this is the worst pants I bought from Columbia. If you buy this pant you are never can't sit because the zipper in middle of pant will be so tight and no stretch. July 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic! Theses are possibly the best travel pants I have ever bought! So comfortable and the colors are great. I bought a pair in all three colors after my first pair worked out so well. You will not be disappointed. June 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great purchase I purchased these last minute online before a 5 day canoe and camping trip to the BWCA in northern Minnesota. Per other online reviews, I ordered a size up from what I normally wear, crossing my fingers that was a smart move. IT WAS! These definitely run about 1 size too small, so whatever you normally wear, go up 1 size. And, as other reviews said, the zipper around the leg is a bit tight - but for me that wasn't too bad. It is really only noticeable when you are sitting, otherwise it did not limit me at all. The zipped pant legs are super easy to take on/off, and they are marked L/R so you don't fumble trying to figure out which leg goes where. The bottom ankle has a cinch strap, which was super helpful when I was wearing them as pants, but needed to hike them up to avoid getting them wet or muddy. Plus, you can cinch them into capri length when you don't need pants or shorts ;) They are really quite comfortable. They dry quickly, do not get weighted down when wet, and were perfect for camping/hiking/canoeing. The SPF protection works great, as my upper legs were safe from direct sun rays, and only my knees got a little burned when I (apparently) didn't apply enough sun block to them (when wearing as shorts). They are a bit more slim fitting than most convertible pants, which is what I was looking for. I am 5'4'' and the length is great - no dragging on the ground. I highly recommend these if you are looking for a comfortable pair of convertible pants! I might even have to get a second pair! June 26, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Agree with other reviewers (thighs) I ordered 1-2 sizes up in the waist to try to make room for the thigh complaint that the other reviewers had mentioned. No such luck. As soon as I sat, I knew what the other ladies meant by the zipper cutting in at the thigh. I now had pants that were too large in the waist, too tight in the legs, and at 5'7" were too short for my liking. The quality is great, though! June 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Soft and comfortable These convertible pants are so nice that I wore them out to dinner in the evening with a nice blouse. By day, they are casual and comfortable. I love the look of them. Very versatile. The fabric is of very good quality. There is a soft waist band inside that feels soft against your skin. I took one size larger for a proper fit. I highly recommend them and they are very competively priced. June 17, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by They're Okay I'm 5'4" 36-28-36, & it's been really difficult to find pants/shorts in the colors I need due to my petite stature. I'm spending this summer as a "tree top adventure/zip line instructor" in a mountainous region of PA (Pittsburgh). My uniform requires solid black or dark grey pants or (family-appropriate length) shorts, so even though these don't come in "short," I figured I'd give the "Grill" color a try since there are frequently days when it's cooler in the mornings & warmer later in the day. (I also bought the Silver Ridge Convertible Pants in black-- I prefer the Silver Ridge to these Saturday Trails). I got these in an 8 because there were so many reviews that said they run small, personally, I wish I would've gotten a 6, but the 8 can just hang loose & I'll live-- I can belt 'em if I need to. My first day wearing these (it was 89 degrees out)-- they were good, but I didn't fall in love with them as I did with the Silver Ridge Convertible pants. They didn't seem to breathe very well & the inside waist is lined with some material (sorry, I'm not good with materials) that was just like rubbing sweatpants against my skin-- not fun when you're already drenched in sweat. Also, & this may seem corny, but I figure I'll mention it because it may be helpful & when you're trying to go to the bathroom quickly, it matters-- the fly is complicated-- 2 snaps, an inside button, & a zipper got really irritating for me. While the end of the pants where it falls around the ankles are adjustable (perfect because I'm short, so I could adjust the ends of the pants so they weren't dragging on the ground), the waist is not adjustable (as the other Silver Ridge pair I bought are). When I converted them into shorts, I could not get the extra length of the pants off over my shoes, which was frustrating. Also: none of the pockets are big enough for my Android cell phone. I was happy that the shorts fit me in a "professional, family-friendly" way (they came down to about 3 inches above my knees). Surprise Bonus: I don't have a washer & dryer at home, so occasionally when I can't make it to the laundromat I have to hand-wash items, & pulling these apart into 3 pieces makes them easy to hand wash, as opposed to other work pants I've had to hand wash. I would recommend these to anyone who needs pants for a cool fall day, I would not recommend them for anyone to wear as pants or shorts in the summer. I'm glad I bought them, they will get good use, but I will never purchase another pair. June 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome pants the fact that they are stretch makes them so much comfortable as you move around. Love them. June 12, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Awkward Fit I ordered these pants in two different sizes.. I generally wear a 4 or a 6 depending on the brand. I first ordered a 6 when I saw that these ran small. While the waist fit relatively normally, the knee area where the bottoms zip off was very tight. This may just be because the pants are a slimmer fit, and the zipper is obviously not flexible, but the zipper was EXTREMELY tight around my knee. I then ordered a size 10 which is well above my normal size. The waist was (obviously) pretty baggy, but the lower area of the pant legs by the zipper was STILL too tight on my leg to be comfortable moving around in. Very disappointing, as the pants were very comfortable everywhere else, and seemed to be very high quality. June 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing fabric I bought these pants to garden in, and they are really great. The fabric is stretchy, so bending, stretching and lifting are nicely accommodated. It is also water repellent - the rain just runs right off. But most amazingly, nothing sticks to it: I was kneeling in very damp soil for an hour and the dirt just brushed right off! The only (slightly) negative are the zippers that "convert" the pants to shorts. The fabric stretches, but these do not and it feels like they're banging into your leg. I'd get the non-convertible style instead. June 4, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by I really love these pants These are wonderful field/athletic pants! Great for hiking in warm places. They are a perfect fit around the waist. However they run kindof tight around the thighs (where the zipper is), so it may be worth it to buy a size up and then wear a belt. May 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these pants!!! Bought these for hiking....the fit was perfect(I'm 5'5 and the Size 4 regular fit perfectly in size and length)lightweight, comfortable and water resistant. I wore them hiking in Patagonia during a torrential rainstorm and they repelled the water. Just ordered two more pairs....had lots of compliments on them from fellow hikers:) May 21, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by zipper isn't comfortable I put these on and was in love. The waist was big but the leg fit was perfect and the length great. Then I sat down. The zippers ride up and dig into my thighs making fat rolls just above the zipper line. Looks awful. Feels worse. I wore them anyway (no time to exchange before our vacation). They look great if you don't sit down. They were fine for trail walking. The material was durable and water repellant in a light rain. They ended up covered in dirt and stored in a zip lock bag for days in my luggage. They went in the wash and came out looking brand new, no stains, no wrinkles. If it weren't for the zipper they would be perfect. I am considering the Saturday Trail pants without the zip off legs. These convertible ones are unfortunately only suitable for someone without any fat or muscle in their thigh. May 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these pants! These pants are amazing. They fit perfectly and are very comfortable. I play golf in them and they move in all the right places. They look really nice on as well. I bought one pair and after getting them I went back and bought two more pairs in different colors. I recommend these pants for looks, comfort and fit. March 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Runs Small I love these pants but you will have to go up in a size for them to fit comfortably. Just what I was looking for. February 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great fit and style I just received the black and fossil size two regular and am so pleased, they fit me perfectly. Even the waist band fits perfectly so I don't have to wear a belt. I have tried two other brands and they were baggy and had elastic sections in the waist, not very flattering. These are very stylish. The legs also seem to be easy to zip off and on. I would have liked the 2 long however they were not available. The 2 regular length is OK. The features are just what I need for the way we travel. Thanks Columbia for getting it right. February 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Saturday trail pant I love these. I purchased both beige and black in 10 short. No alterations needed. What a bonus! These are no muss no fuss, wash and hang to dry then wear. Will buy more. November 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wore for 4 days of Backpacking These pants were comfortable and extremely functional. They dried quickly. I wore them for four days of backpacking and would wear them again. I had to order a size up from my normal size. November 18, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Women's hiking pants I purchased the Trail Stretch Convertible pants. I am 5'10", 150 lbs and usually wear a 10 tall. Based on the description that they run small I ordered a size 12 tall. Very baggy through the hips, so I returned them for a size 10 tall which fit well except seemed a little tight at the leg zippers. Have worn them several times, and they are quite comfortable, but was very disappointed when the second time I washed them, a seam came apart. These were not cheap pants, and I expected better workmanship. October 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by almost perfect I wear these for fishing. The material is the best I have worn. Nice stretch and still water repellent. The zippers are a little tight around the lower thigh when you sit or bend over. Otherwise they look great and function well. I wish they were available without the sip offs. September 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice looking but needs re-design I was looking for a pair of summer weight convertible pants for travel/hiking. I have a pair of EMS size 6 that are very roomy (room to layer with long underwear, which is nice for winter hikes). I am 5'5" and usually take a size 6, sometimes size 8. I was looking for a more flattering pair of pants than the EMS convertible pants, which have the unfortunate tendency toward "diaper butt" look. I wanted pants that I could use all day, then go to dinner and look presentable. The Saturday Trail pants seemed to strike the right balance. I got the fossil (light tan) color. Problem is what some other reviewers mentioned--the placement of the zippers. When I crouch, the zippers dig into my thighs. If the shorts were one inch longer, if the zippers started one inch lower down on the leg, and if there were ankle zippers so I wouldn't have to take off my shoes in order to remove the lower leg portion of the pants, I would give these pants 5 stars and excellent quality and function. I am going hiking tomorrow, and will try them out. As long as I am standing or even sitting normally, I can wear these, so I am hoping I can hike as normal. They are very flattering to the figure, especially compared with other convertible hiking pants. If they are not comfortable, they will just take up space in the closet.... The format of this review requires that I say yes or no to recommending this product. I would like to say, I recommend it with some reservations...or I might recommend it to the very skinniest legged-people. September 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Looking Travel Pants I live in Arizona, so zip-off pants are very useful. Many of the nylon ones look rumpled and frumpy; these look great. The material has a very nice feel and dries quickly if you are caught in the rain. I like pants that fit at the true waist, and these do. I bought these pants right before a trip that covered from NY City to Acadia NP and they worked in all (casual) settings. The only negative has been pointed out - the hem at the zipper is unyielding. I guess my legs are not muscular enough for it to be a big problem, because I wore them daily for those two weeks and I just bought another pair. August 20, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by not so good in movement I bought those pans, they look really good, fits good in waist, the problem started when you move your legs!!! obviusly the zipper line are not strech and they work as a tourniquets in each movement for your legs. Iwore it 15 minutes and i dropped off, imposible for my legs!! August 4, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by So close to being awesome... I really liked these pants when I first tried them on. The fact that the waist was a little loose made me feel good (can always use a belt, right?) They draped over by backside and thighs beautifully. I noticed that the top half of the pants were indeed made out of a different, more stretchy material than the bottom half (as some reviewers have noted), but was impressed with how it was impossible to tell the fabrics apart visually. I thought to myself, "Why not have the top half, where you're most active, be made out of stretchy fabric? It's actually kind of smart." I sat down to remove the bottom half, and was impressed by how easily they zipped on and off. They even have labels "L" & "R" so that you know which part goes where. :) I admired the bungee cord around the bottom cuff that could be used to help keep bugs out in grasses. Then I tried to cross my legs... and the whole experience went down hill. There is no give in the zippered area, and all the fat in my lower things bulged out around the zipper line. I pulled the pants down, thinking that I could just be careful not to cross my legs, and to adjust the pants before sitting. That worked ok, but then I tried another position. I squatted down so that my thighs and calves were touching --- and it felt like my legs had tourniquets on them. It actually hurt. As much as these pants are sooooo awesome when I'm standing up and I really wanted to have a pair of convertible pants, they're going back to Columbia. I need to be comfortable in all positions when I'm outdoors enjoying the world. :) .... PS --- I also ordered a size 18W. The waist was wayyyyy too big (of course), and the leg constriction was better, but still present. I hope Columbia revises these pants to have a looser fit around the lower thighs. July 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Pants! I loved these pants! However I did end up returning them. The zippers for the convertible pants are very small. When I sat down, the zipper would dig into my legs. These are not made for thick women. If you have slim legs, these would be perfect! June 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Stylish and functional I'm an active stay at home mom in Colorado. I wanted something other than my yoga pants to go out in. I enjoy spur of the moment hikes. These Trail Stretch pants were just what I was looking for. I'm 5' 2 1/2" and 138 lbs so I was happy to see that they were offered in short size. The fabric, snaps and zippers all seem great quality. My only problem was the area where the lower pant legs zip off to make shorts was a little snug. April 1, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Product These pants are awesome! Since I live in a really dry climate they stick to my legs a little bit but my ability to move in them and the feel of the material is great. I love the zipper to wear the pants as shorts, This way I don't have to wear lots of different layers or pack extra clothes just in case I'm not comfortable with the weather conditions. March 9, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by way too big After reading all the reviews and everyone saying they fit small, I ordered a size up and they nearly fell off. I did get the "short" style and maybe that is different. Will try again, like the style and fabric, not the fit February 11, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Some pros, some cons Usually I do not review a product before I put it to use, but this time I think my initial response to both the pros and cons of these pants might be helpful to those considering... Cons first, and then some pros -- First, in step with several other reviewers, I do think the zippers on this convertible pant are rather restrictive. As a short woman (5'1''), I thought I might beat the odds since the 10" inseam of the shorts would end closer to my knee (i.e. at a thinner part of my thigh). And while this is partially true (I can walk very comfortably in them), lifting my leg too much or even sitting cross-legged really sheds light on the restrictive circumference of the zipper. I'm fairly sure that this will, unfortunately, prove to be rather inconvenient while hiking. Second, I am a bit wary about how long the zippers in the pant leg will or will not hold up. The zippers are functional but do not seem incredibly strong and the zipper catches once in a while. With a little gentle prodding this is easily overcome, but I feel the need to be cautious about applying too much force. Let's hope I am wrong about this! Some pros: The material and lightweight nature of these pants make their functionality promising; I do think they will be a great choice for casual outdoor use. The waist is lined and very soft on the inside, which is a great feature for comfort! Overall the fit (aside from the zipper) is quite comfortable (I am 5'1", just over 110 pounds, and ordered a 2 short). A note to anyone considering the Silver Ridge convertible pants instead or in addition: originally I ordered the Silver Ridge pants, but by the time I realized the 4 short was too big for me, the 2 short were sold out in the product -- so these were my next choice. The zipper was not in the least problematic on the Silver Ridge pants (restriction or strength-wise), so if they are still available in your size, I would recommend them over these convertible pants. They seem to be nearly sold out for the season, so even though I consider the restrictive zipper a serious enough flaw to merit a 3-star rating (for those who want to hike, not just walk!), I will probably hold on to this product and make the best of it. I'm sure these pants will serve me well in the ways they are able to. January 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by love these hiking pants True to size, comfy, great material. I want 4 more! January 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Prefer Silver Ridge Convertible Pants I already own multiple pairs of Saturday Trail shorts and Silver Ridge convertible pants so thought this would be the best of both worlds. I may have an older style of the shorts but the design of the front and side pockets is different and the pants come up really high in the back. I preferred the old design. As others have commented, they are tight around the zipper unlike the other convertible pants I own. Not so bad that I won't wear them. The material and fit are nice. I am 5'2", 120-125 lbs and wear a 4 short. I did not have a problem with the size. Unless you have skinny legs, I would recommend the Silver Ridge convertible pants over these. December 28, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Poor fit on leg These pants run a tad small. I'm usually a size 6 but had to wear a size 8. They look fantastic on and feel even better with the right amount of stretch until you get to the zipper on the leg. Leg zipper is pretty constricting when sitting or squatting. It's fine with standing. I don't understand why they didn't allow for extra leg room around zipper. If it hadn't been for this I would've rated this 5 star but the leg zipper is a significant flaw so I only gave it 3 stars. November 10, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Odd colour but nice pants When I ordered "gravel" colour from the photo I expected grey, however the pants are green. They fit well but if the zipper was slightly lower it may have less constriction around the thigh. September 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Saturday Trail Stretch Convertible Pants I read the reviews and agree with the comments that these run slightly small due to the narrow leg. I have thin legs and typically wear a 12, which I tried, but the cut on the legs was too slim when seated. Went up one size and they fit perfectly. I love the stretch fabric. I am tall and can rarely find longs in retail stores, so am happy I can find these on line. I've ordered two colors. Would love to see these come in navy. I can wear these to work and people don't notice these are zip-offs. I would like to see zippers up the side of the leg so that you can convert these to shorts without removing your hiking boots. THANKS COLUMBIA! I LOVE YOUR STUFF!!! September 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hiking Perfect pants. Good fit, cool, lightweight. August 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Pants I purchased these pants and wore them on the plane ride-most comfortable pants I've ever owned. Good looking even in a jungle!!! August 7, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A great travel piece. I am going to Italy for two weeks and I thought the pants, shirt and shorts I purchased would be a great items to take with me. August 5, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Zipper tight in the thigh After a year of hiking, I finally treated myself to a nice pair of zip off hiking pants. Though I like the stretchy material, I'm having the same issue as other reviewers...not only do the sizes run small (I'm a 6/8 and am wearing a 10. Luckily I purchased in the store where I could try on), but the zipper around the thigh is very tight. If you sit down, squat, or need to lift your leg up high to get over a high step, the pant material will stretch but the zipper does not and your thighs get strangled. I don't understand why they don't allow for some extra room where the zipper is. The pants do have a slim cut and look good on, and are fine if you are walking, not sitting much, or not needing to do much climbing. July 31, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great material, perfect cut, didn't fit right in one area Love the material, cut, zip off legs, length, waist...everything but one thing. The crotch has a different type fit and did not fit my body type right, it bunched and did not look attractive. I am short waisted and there was just too much extra material in this area. I can't say I wasn't disappointed as these pants were exactly what I was looking for. I ordered a size 4, normally wear a 0 or 2, but these run small. July 25, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Got on sale, wouldn't pay full price These pants are very flattering with a nice slim fit. The zipper did not chafe my thighs, and I love the convertible short option. I also love the fact that you can get a "short" size, as I am 5'2". They do run a tad small, I went up from my size 2 to a 4short. I am about 115 lbs and petite. I got these on sale and wouldn't pay full price--after the first wear, they were already starting to pill (you can see noticeable pilling and chafe marks) on the left outside thigh from rubbing against something. I didn't do anything too extreme with them--just sitting in the car, some hiking and camping (what I would expect to do with them regularly) and am disappointed that they are showing such wear before the first wash!! Overall, cute pants, but maybe less for active wear and more for bouncing around town? Even then, I think the quality is sub-par for a $60 price tag. July 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for hiking Everyone who hikes regularly knows the feeling of "Do I start out in shorts or is it too cold?" These pants solve my problem as I can start out however and convert throughout the hike. I bought a size 6 and 8 and found that the six were a bit more snug. (In the Anytime pants the reverse is true) Also, even the 8s in the convertible pant feel snugger where they convert into shorts, its not bad but its noticeable and I think it is just the zipper area I'm feeling. I love the fit, very comfortable. Also converting back to the pant legs is easy, the zipper is easy to work with. July 16, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor Leg Zipper Placement These pants are comfortable in the waist, lightweight and breathable as advertised. Great for warm days. However, I'm extremely disappointed in the zip-off feature. I am not a large woman, size 8-10. I thought the zippers on the legs would be at the knees. Instead, they're about two to three inches higher, and they obviously don't stretch with the rest of the material. When you're sitting down, crouching down, or even climbing stairs they get extremely tight and squeeze your thighs. I suggest putting the zipper at the knee for future models. July 9, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very nicely made, weird fit I like these pants a lot, was really looking forward to wearing them. The fit was really good everywhere but were the zippers unzip to make them shorts. When I sit or bend down they get stuck on my legs there and I have to pull them down when I stand up. I consider myself to be fairly slim especially in the legs, I am a size 6 and 5'10" tall, so I was very excited to find them in a long. Disappointed, will be returning for something else. July 6, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Legs too tight Love these pants because of the comfortable fabric and their overall trim fit, but the legs are just cut too tight in the thighs. Will have to return them because I don't think I could hike and climb a trail for several hours without the zippers rubbing against skin and chaffing lower thighs. It is disappointing because this is one of the few pants offered in a longer length. June 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this pant! The fabric and construction of this pant are exactly what I was looking for. They are true to size with a slimmer, flattering fit, while still being exceptionally comfy and sturdy. June 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Cool, nice construction, long enough for tall gals. I purchased these Columbia convertible pants and have found them to be cool in hot, humid weather, nicely tailored, and easy to convert to shorts. I purchased my first pair at REI awhile ago, and wasn't aware that they came in lengths, so my one complaint is that the pant was a bit short. This time, I purchased the longs and they fit beautifully. They do run small - I wear a size 4 pant in both Levis and Gap jeans, and I ordered a size 8 in this pant to get the right fit. But they look nice and work well. May 28, 2013
