Rated 5 out of 5 by Great jacket! I got one of these a few years ago while I was in Chicago because I didn't have a proper winter coat. The interchange system is great for traveling because you can remove or add a layer depending on the weather. The inner jacket is lightweight and nice on its own. The outer jacket is great for rainy & windy days - too warm for summer, it is a lot of jacket for Tennessee, I have only worn both pieces together a few times, and get more use out of the separate layers. My jacket is a few years older and they changed a few features, but they kept the powder skirt (no more drafty back) and the armpit zips - they really help so you can dump extra heat without exposing your neck & chest. I have not been skiing but the goggle pocket is great for sunglasses & a hat. October 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great 2-Piece Coat I love this coat! I've used the pieces zipped together for snowshoeing on VT trails in the winter. It's not super warm if you're standing still, but when I'm moving around, this coat traps body heat nicely. The waterproof shell alone is great for spring and summer rain storms - keeps me nice and dry. I wear the thermal base layer under my wool coat in the winter (again, it's not a super warm layer, but does a great job at trapping body heat). I find that the base layer is great for wearing alone on cool (40/50s) days. I generally wear an 18 or a 16W - I ordered the 2X and it fits me well. July 7, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great looking coat Haven't worn it yet but looks like it will be a great coat for recess duty in Iowa during the winter. I ordered up a size after reading other reviews and that was a great idea. June 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by WOMEN’S WHIRLIBIRD™ INTERCHANGE JACKET - WOMEN’S WHIRLIBIRD™ INTERCHANGE JACKET - It is perfect for Patagonia climate. This was a gift for my mother and she is really happy with it. May 30, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful jacket...well designed This jacket has everything needed for winter weather. April 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Finally a jacket that fits! I'm so glad I purchased this jacket. I have had difficulties finding one that fits my measurements (48"/32"/52") especially around the hips, and the 2X is perfect! It doesn't ride up because it's big enough for my hips, and it's not too bulky in the waist. The inner jacket is light enough to wear in the spring and the outer part is a great raincoat. Definitely recommend it! March 28, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not very fkattering I felt like I was wearing a big sack. As others have said no center cinch which would be nice. Also if you don't have the liner in you don't have any inside pockets March 27, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Coat I really like the coat very warm , the only thing that it needs is for the coat to gather in the middle not at the bottom. It is very lite to wear. I would like to get another one if it gathers in the middle. I have another Columbia coat that I used as good now after 15 plus years it is my everyday coat and this new one is for good. March 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great protection from the elements As a professional dog walker I am outdoors every day no matter the weather. This jacket has kept me warm and toasty and is so light weight as not to restrict movement. I love this coat. February 29, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I love this Jacket I've had my eye on this jacket for some time. I love the 3-in-1 functionality. I live and play outdoors in New England. The weather is variable throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring-warm one day, freezing, pelting rain the next, then sub-zero and lots of snow. This jacket takes it all. The outer shell is perfect for that freezing rain. With the inner jacket zipped in, it takes sub-zero weather like a "day at the beach". I'm very glad I finally purchased this. I only wish there was a small zippered pocket outside near the chest area for credit cards and keys. February 28, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by what is missing I miss the two outside breast pockets that the bugaboo jacket had, very handy for sunglasses, phones & passports, but even more I miss the two way zipper that the bugaboo had but I can't find on any Columbia jackets now, very useful for sitting in a vehicle. I do like that the lining is not fleece, it slips on over sweatshirts so easily/ February 24, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Vibrant! First, I ordered this in a 2x when I don't think I needed to but still wearable and functional. I ordered the red and some people had mentioned that the coat was pastel and pink. The color is definitely not pastel. It is bold and bright and pink. I'm not bothered by it but just a heads up. Can't wait to wear it in Tahoe! February 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by A warm but yet lightweight coat I had this coat for about 2 weeks now and I do like it but the weather here in Chicago has not been too cold yet so waiting for that to happen. It nice to wear one coat in the winter that is not bulky. I recommend it. February 8, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by NOT FRICKIN RED If you are clicking through the color options going "why is every option some pastel cutsie color or pattern or black" and then spot ruby red and think sweet...a nice solid color for women who don't like pink or pastels....I MUST WARN YOU, DO NOT BUY THE RED....its not red...its hot pink. Come on. I like earth tones and dark colors and even bold colors...but pastels? and BOLD pastels are even worse. Woman can wear all the colors that exist...who decided that our only options had to be girly or cutsie. If you like that...great...but what about the rest of us! Love the coat...which i guess i will be returning for...black. sigh. If woman aren't cutsie we must want black. No in-between... February 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this jacket I ordered a size up (3X) because I like to layer and I wanted the jacket to be comfortable. I love the color (emerald plaid) and the fact that it's 3 jackets so it can be used in multiple ways. I bought this jacket for a ski trip to CO and was warm and versatile. I will buy it again when I shrink in size or if something happens the one that I own. January 29, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for 2016 Snowzilla! I got this jacket hoping to have a waterproof, warm, and sturdy jacket for the next few winters, and I'm so glad I got this jacket! I got the 2X. I'm a 6'0" 16/18 woman with a pear shape; the chest is fairly big on me at a 38C, but the arms are long and it FITS IN THE HIPS LIKE A MIRACLE. The whole thing fits pretty loose, but I can layer underneath it and not worry about the jacket being too tight on my hips. I didn't get this 3-in-1 to make a fashion statement. It's a tiny bit shorter than I thought it'd be, only barely covers my rear when I stand, but the snow skirt prevented anything from wiggling its way into my jacket. That's my only negative; I wish it were about 2-4" longer. But I stayed warm! I stayed dry! I had a ton of fun in the snow! I wrassled with my dog in 15" of snow for days, I shoveled out driveways in 30-50mph gusts of 20F winds, I trudged about 6 miles through the woods, and I was never cold and never wet. Best purchase! January 27, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Warm coat I bought this coat for my wife, and she loves it. It keeps her warm, and fits her figure well. We both recommend this coat. January 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by It's warm and it fits! Finding a plus sized winter jacket was a hard thing to do! I am in love with my coat, it its not too bulky and it's warm! The inside layer works great for my day to day and using the shell for fun snow time has been great! Getting lots of compliments on it too!! January 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it This is my first Columbia jacket with omni heat feature. During windy & rainy days it kept me dry and warm. When the temperature dropped down below zero, I used the jacket with omni heat as a layering under my feather down coat and surprisingly it kept me warm and toasted. I love this product. January 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this jacket I bought the womans whirlbird 3 in 1 interchange coat and I love it. Normally in a winter jacket I get too hot while shopping this one keeps me at the right temperature. I love the color and the future is amazing. Best purchase I've ever made! January 15, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pretty Jacket, love the color. Wish I would of gone one size larger. Am used to wearing a sweatshirt underneath jackets(dressing in Layers MN). Nice jacket. Have all kinds of Columbia Jackets, was looking to be able to trim down to a couple of jackets to cover all seasons. Will have a good test of warmth this weekend when we are finally getting under 0. Winter has arrived. January 8, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great ski jacket Liked the jacket, sizes, colors available, warmth. But would like some zipped pockets on upper outside and inside. Liked that it had underarm zip vents. January 7, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Favorite jacket This is my second Columbia jacket like this one. I finally let go of my 10 year old one which was still in great condition but the outer shell was white so some discoloration had started. I love this new one and get a lot of compliments on it. I bought the Nocturnal Print, Atoll. It's very warm but not bulky. I also like the three different ways you can wear this jacket. A lot of coat for the money! January 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great coat! This is my second Columbia coat, I had my first one for over 20 years, and it's still in great shape. This new one is thinner and lighter, but just as warm! I'm very happy with my Columbia coats and would recommend them to anyone. January 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful Jacket! I was especially pleased to find a women's jacket in larger sizes in bright colors and patterns. It fits nicely and looks great. Best of all, it keeps me warm on our cold winter days. Just finished shoveling snow and ice outside and I stayed warm. I also appreciate that the hood is not too big; it did not fall down over my face as I was shoveling. I highly recommend this jacket. January 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice jacket. I am a huge fan of Columbia jackets, so I took a chance on the Whirlibird when I found it on sale. The jacket runs very small, but otherwise I found it warm, attractive and quite comfortable. Glad I bought it. January 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Womens Whirlibird Interchange Jacket I bought the jacket as a Christmas gift for my wife because of Columbia quality. I had a hard time finding a white one anywhere in XL and ordered one in L because XL was out of stock. I new I made a mistake because two of my men's winter jackets ran small. I called customer service after I realized that 1X was available. CS was excellent although the L could not be cancelled one hour after I ordered. They put a hub hold on the L and my wife loves the 1X that she received for Christmas. Columbia is worth the cost! December 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic jacket This jacket fits my wife incrediblyincredibly well & she can't stop thanking me for how comfortable it is & how warm she feels! She loves it & highly recommends it! December 26, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by OK jacket but needs zipper help I wear this jacket primarily for downhill skiing. I really like the fact this jacket is a 3 in 1. I wear the jacket as two independent layers, a light jacket undercoat with a shell top layer. I can then use both zippers to allow for more clothing adjustment, etc. at the neck. I do not like the zippers on the shell jacket layer. They are difficult to pull up with gloves on and I'd prefer zippers with larger teeth and beefier pulls. This jacket lacks a loop, D-ring or other place to hook a lift ticket or season pass. Because the zipperand pulls feel flimsy to me I'm hesitant to hook my lift tickets and my gloves on them. That leaves no secure place to clip these things. I'd also like the interior jacket to have zipper pockets so they are functional without fear of losing things. I love the interior pockets on the light undercoat jacket, though. Overall, a very warm jacket that serves my needs but I'm adding some loops to clip things to so I don't break the feel flimsy zippers. December 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by whirlibird Interchangable Jacket-plus size Great Jacket! Good quality for the money, nice sleeve length, over all fit and feminine detail stitching. December 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy Happy Happy I just purchased this coat this last weekend in store and tried it on and had to go up a size but when a little bigger as with anything else it keeps you warmer. Very comfortable, not restricting at all. Nebraska forecast for this week is blizzard warnings with 8 inches of snow and 50 mph winds so I feel very confident I am now prepared. November 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Jacket My only regret is I didn't buy the pants to go with the jacket while I have the employee store pass! October 15, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by strange cut Returned this ski jacket because the 2x size (I usually wear a 1x) was too tight across the shoulders + bicep area. Jacket was also short + boxy. I could have fit another 1/2 of myself in the torso/waist area. Ended up using my older ski jacket from a different manufacturer and sized XL. July 27, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not warm enough With the description I thought that if it was supposed to be warm enough for skiing then I should be warm in it. Our Indiana weather gave us some pretty cold days and I was cold (in my car!). This is definately not what I thought it was. If you just have 40 degrees or so with not much wind it's the perfect coat. It is lighter weight, which I didn't think it looked that light-weight so it was deceiving. I am sending it back. February 26, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by ok Not what i would expect from Columbia. I have owned two previous Columbia jackets and I was very happy with them. I bought this jacket after having my other jacket for 5 years and the underarm area having pulling and lent balls and being a tad small due to weight gain. I was worried this jacket would be too snug but I was happily surprised that it wasn't. It feels thinner than my other jacket and doesn't seem as warm. My other jacket had a fleece inner jacket and I'm not impressed with this jackets inner jacket due to it not being soft and fuzzy. I am considering buying a different inner jacket to replace the one this came with. I wore this jacket in 20 degree weather and I wasn't cold however laying in snow I could feel the coldness through the jacket something I didn't feel with other jackets. February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love my new Columbia jacket Never had one before and although it runs small, I ordered up one size as recommended. Love it. It is warm and not bulky February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great coat for all weathers! Have purchased several Columbia interchange coats, one lasting more than 15 years! Particularly like the slick sleeve lining as the fleece lining makes it harder to put arms in quickly. Omni heat is great. Glad I read the reviews before purchasing as this does run smaller . February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product This coat has been great for me! On warmer days, I can take the liner out, and on cold days, I'm nice and warm! I would DEFINATELY recommend this product. February 19, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love it I have MS and my old coat was so heavy and I can hardly tel this one is one. I also works as more than one coat. I think for the price I got my money's worth. February 13, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Thrilled with my purchase! This jacket is exactly what I was looking for...a nice jacket that can be worn when it's a cool day or when it's frigid outside. The sleeves are a little tight on the upper arm, but only when you are wearing both jackets together. When I wear just one of the jackets it's a perfect fit! This is by far the nicest coat I have ever owned. I just ordered another one today for my daughter! February 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Colorful and warm This is actually two coats in one. It is very versatile and can be used when it is very cold outside or just chilly. February 6, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Purchase Love this coat and so glad I purchased. Runs small in the torso and very long arms. Inside jacket zips in and out easily. Keeps me very warm. January 25, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great coat! I love my coat. It does run a little small and I read that from the reviews before I bought it so I went ahead and ordered the 3X, I'm glad I did. Usually 3X is too big and 1X-2X fits perfectly and this is a close fit. If I would have ordered a size smaller it wouldn't have fit. I also read that it has a blue tint to it instead of grey that is also true. Overall, I love the coat. It's really warm. I haven't even taken it apart yet to separate the 2 jackets. January 4, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by great features, poor fabric quality I'm from Montreal, where the winters are cold. I have owned a few Columbia jackets over the years and have always been satisfied. So, this past fall, I bought the Whirlibird 3 in 1 parka and loved it from the get-go. The outer shell copes well against cold winds and rain. The collar is high a provides very nice face & chin protection. Deep side pockets that keep belongings safe and hands warm. The armpit zips are a wonderful feature and work nicely (especially in crowded and overheated public transport where body temp goes up real fast !). The hood is too small and I found myself constantly tugging at the drawcords to keep it secure on my head. So I gave up and removed it (zipper feature) . The liner jacket is ultra light and toasty warm. It has a slightly tappered fit and can be worn on its own. Overall great features and good workmandship. One big disappointment is in the quality of the shell's fabric (the black plaid). Within 3 weeks of what I would consider "normal use" (to and from work by public transport and a little walking), there were signs of unusual wear : fraying at the edge of the cuffs, cracking and whitening of fabric in the folds of the bottom drawstring, worn look at side pockets. Bummer ! January 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Well Liked Coat I purchased this coat at my disabled sister's request; because, she loved the first one I bought for her. The only minus I can see, is the company decided not to make a cloth cover for the zipper which seems like it would be a problem for snow wear. January 2, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good buy I love this coat but had trouble ordering it over the Internet. When I called Columbia's customer service I felt like they were not very helpful. My favorite feature is the liner that zips out. It was like getting two coats. I Went skiing in very cold weather over the holidays and it kept me very warm. It does run a little small so I was thankful I followed other people's advise and ordered a size up. It's a little big but fits great when you need to layer up. Love this coat and for the price I hope it last for many seasons. January 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worried about size-fit me perfectly I was very weary about which size I should get after reading the previous reviews. There isn't an average consensus and it seems that each reviewer is a different body shape affecting fit. So I erred on the side of caution and ordered a size up, 3x, considering the reviews and that the coat is made to fit slimmer; even though my measurements fell under the 2x on the size chart. I am 5'9", 220 lbs and my measurements are: 47, 43, 47 (full honesty here ;). Usually when garments are made in a slim, or active, fit, I need to go a size larger, especially because I don't have much waist definition. The 3x was WAY too big. Like the other review who ordered a size up, I was swimming in it-- little ego boost there... I returned it and just received the 2x today, fits great, maybe even a little on the big size, but I'll be comfortable if I need an extra layer during snowmobiling. As far as warmth goes, I'm sitting outside in 35* weather at the moment and can feel the chill but I'm not even shivering, and I'm inactive. I bought this to have a good, warm coat since I'm a messenger for a law firm and do a ton of walking out side. I know this will do the job and keep me warm while doing other outdoor winter activities. I gave a 4 star rating just because I haven't really tested it out for now. Also, it falls well below the hips, almost a little too long but it's still comfortable. I hope adding the details for my size helps others decide on a size, since that was a huge deciding factor when not being able to try the coat on before purchase. December 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I LOVE THIS COAT I have always loved Columbia products. I have owned 3 different coats but this one is the best. I love the omni insulation it keeps me very warm.It is always hard to order things online and have it fit right this coat fits perfectly and I love the color. December 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by AWESOME INVESTMENT This coat is soooooo warm You don't have to do any movement and you'll be sweating. It's defiantly true to size. It covers your butt which is really nice. Both pieces will keep you nice and toasty, except for the inner layer does not have a hood, but it's still warm. I live about 40 minutes outside of Chicago and I think im more than ready to face the blistering cold this year and years to come. There are a gazillion pockets i actually found another one yesterday that i had no clue about. That can be very convenient, especially if your like me and you carry your life with you everywhere you go. This is a must have. You won't be disappointed, it's a AWESOME INVESTMENT!!!! December 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Order a size or 2 up Love this jacket. It's warm even though its not bulky. It's very comfortable, once you get the right size. I ordered a 2X because I read the reviews of it running small and it still wasn't big enough. I usually wear a 1X and had to get the 3X. With that said it is surely worth it and would purchase again as well as recommend it to others. December 16, 2014
