OutDry™ Extreme is our first ever waterproof and breathable fabric technology constructed with a waterproof layer on the outside and soft, wicking fabric inside. Traditional raingear uses interior waterproof membranes which don't allow for air flow, and water-repellent coating that degrades over time. With OutDry™ Extreme, the rugged exterior is an incredibly water-tight membrane with millions of microscopic perforations that let water vapor escape through a wicking membrane directly fused to the shell.

A jacket for the modern adventurerMen’s OutDry™ Ex Diamond Heatzone Long Parka is described as the best jacket, top of the line, with the best materials, best technologies of the entire Columbia lineup.
I've survived Wisconsin winters wearing Columbia products before and, after my previous jacket met an unfortunate and premature demise, I decided to take on the best that Columbia has to offer.
Wisconsin winters are relentless but by the time I purchased this jacket the most dire conditions had passed but nonetheless this jacket delivered the protection that I needed.
This jacket is really light for its size and surprisingly not puffy unlike some other down jackets.
Hand pockets are spacious and lined for a soft feel. The 2 chest pockets are big enough for my big over the glasses sunglasses. There is a small security pocket inside but I haven't had the need to use it yet.
Now, I haven't had the opportunity to test the permeability of the jacket but I'll describe the fabric. The color is more gray than black and it feels and sounds like you are wearing a big plastic bag but It's not as rigid as a rain coat
My only complaint is about the zippers of the hand pockets, every time I put my hands inside the pockets they get scratched ;it won't be a problem if you are wearing gloves but with this jacket I don't have to.
I have received many complements about this jacket for its looks and so far it hasn't let me down. If you have the need for it and the economic resources, I recommend you buy this jacket.
I bought this jacket. I did not participated in a promotion for this review.

ParkaThis is a very light parka. It kept me warm skiing with just a baselayer on.

Worth 1K? Yes!When a jacket costs $1,000 you expect it to just simply work by keeping you warm in the harshest winter conditions, which this does. At this price range, it is competing with other 'premium brands' and I say this just simply works and performs better than any other brand.
The design definitely stands out. The "black" is more of a matte grey. Three giant branding(reflective) on both sleeves and lower back. With an American flag on the right shoulder. Some might prefer less branding but I enjoy it and definitely gives it a unique look. Even a bit of a streetwear vibe. In fact, Opening Ceremony did a collab on this jacket and I believe it is still available.
Proprietary OutDry technology keeps the jacket absolutely dry(waterproof) even when I walked one-hour in a blizzard in downtown. The Omni-Heat reflective may seem like a gimmick, but it truly works. If you are walking/being a bit active it will keep you warm and sometimes too warm, which is much better than being cold. If the jacket gets too warm you can open up the mesh-lined pit zips on both sides of the jacket.
1000TD wave, which is a combination of 900 Fill Power, Water Resistance Goose Down + 160g Omni-Heat Insulation, makes this jacket incredibly light but warm. Also does have a very flat/non-puffy look to it which I enjoy greatly.
I'm 5'9" 150lb wearing a size small, I can say the jacket may feel a bit big, but it also allows for a thick sweater or even a mid-layer jacket, so I say it is perfect sizing for a winter jacket, as it allows layering at your true-size.
At my height 5'9" (size small) the length of the jacket, is couple inches where my open hand rests, just to give you an idea. Longer length definitely does provide extra warmth. Sleeves are definitely long enough and have velcro adjusters at the end in case it is too long.
Also, the zippers are two-way zippers so you can sit down comfortably by zipping up from the bottom.
The zippers are small lightweight plastic, and that is one thing I do not enjoy this jacket. As at times, it can make zipping up the jacket a bit harder, especially if it is really cold and one has gloves on.
The front hand pockets, fleece lined for warmth, use the same zipper as the main.
There are 3 additional pockets, 5 total, 2 front hand pockets, 2 chest pockets underneath a velcro flap(small metal zipper with cords), and one internal vertical chest pocket(small metal zipper) on the left side.
Hood is not detachable, but a good winter parka needs a hood for ultimate warmth anyway. The faux-fur on the hood is also very soft, even more so than a real fur. Much easier to maintain and clean, and it is detachable if having fur is not your thing. I recommend keeping it on as it looks better and serves the purpose of keeping your face warm and blocking out wind/snow.
In summary, if you want the very best of what Columbia has to offer, this is THE jacket. If you want to standout from the sea of other 'premium jackets' everybody else is wearing this is THE jacket. If you want a jacket that simply works and will keep you warm from A to B to Z this is THE jacket. Great for use in urban/city environment!

Awesome JacketI bought this coat mainly for extreme cold conditions, rain, snow, blizzard and simply walking the dog in 30* and below weather. I ordered a small and it is perfect! I'm 170lbs and 5'10". Nice and fitted without being too tight and the arms are long enough! (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)
