Men’s OutDry™ Ex Gold Tech Shell is rated out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by AKRyanF from Perfect I love this jacket. It is lightweight enough to be comfortable to work in, but strong enough to use even when its coming down in buckets. Fits exactly as I would have expected a large to fit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Bykyrb from Waterproof but stays wet and cold inside I was very excited to try this jacket with OutDry Ex technology. One of my biggest pet peeves is “D”WR coatings that are anything but durable. I’m sick of expensive jackets that let the outer face fabric wet out after just a few months of use. I had the chance to test this jacket on an uphill hike in cool weather with a thunderstorm including hail and moderate rain. The fabric waterproofness was as advertised - water consistently beaded up. But I built up a little sweat inside on the hike up, and due to the unique construction I stayed wet and cold the rest of the hike! Because the non-waterproof fabric has been moved to the inside, the INSIDE face fabric wets out with sweat and then it DOES NOT DRY OUT since it is trapped between the waterproof membrane and your body. It just stays wet and cold against your skin all day. So if I had a choice, I guess I’d prefer an outer face fabric to wet out when the DWR wears off. At least it wouldn’t be against my skin making me feel cold and wet, and it would dry off faster once the rain stops since it would be exposed to sun and wind.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MikeA33 from Excellent Material, Design Flaw This is the second Outdry jacket I've owned. The first one delaminated and started flaking off in under two years. The Outdry material is an excellent water repellent. Your torso will stay dry in practically any weather. It is also fairly breathable. That said, this is not the same as the first jacket I had. Indeed, I no longer saw that jacket on the website when I ordered this. That jacket was slightly more expensive and had a thin liner, which was nice. That jacket was also less fitted around the waist, which is the real drawback to this coat. If you want your bottom half to stay dry, even in mild conditions, you must wear waterproof pants with this jacket, since the shape of the jacket runs the water straight to your hips. It's not advertised as a ski jacket, so I don't see why the bottom is so snug around the hips, even when the pull cord is adjusted to it's widest. I am a relatively slender guy, so the issue isn't my body shape. It's quite a spectacular flaw for what is an otherwise fantastic jacket. The only upside to this design is that it's very flattering, and makes one look svelte.

Rated 4 out of 5 by splat2030 from Excellent Shell But Could Use More Earth Tone Colors I own the grey/black version this shell, and am very pleased with the waterproofness and breathability of the Outdry technology after extensive testing in the wet conditions of Washington state. That said I am a little disappointed that there haven't been more earth tone colors offered...I would purchase another one of these jackets immediately if you would make it available in the solid gravel green color similar to the outdry ex stretch/outdry ex reversible, or a solid bark brown/dark tan color (Please skip the two tone and contrast zippers/stitching).

Rated 5 out of 5 by LikesCookies from Best Jacket Hands Down I live in Oregon, a very rainy state where 66% of the time it's raining. And this is my go-to jacket. It's very breathable, and keeps my dry when it's wet outside. There are alot of small features they did with this jacket that lends credit to how well it's made. It has large pockets, very durable zippers with curved polymer design that makes it easy to grip, and prevents them from rattling. The only thing they can do to improve is not change anything on how this was made! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Druegar from Great coat, a little warm for me I tend to run warm, wife calls me her heater. But this jacket can usually have me sweating in 40 degree weather for a simple 4 mile hike, granted the fit bit says we have done 50 flights of stairs but... The plus side is the hood does not obscure my vision the jacket keeps the cold rain out even when blown at me for a 4 mile walk/hike. So it certainly serves it's purpose and it doesn't fit me like a gunny sack unlike my other rain coats/jackets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Devsaintclair from Great product but overpriced. I have to admit it is very stylish and looks great (I got the white). It is light weight and vented which is what I wanted (a summer time rainwear). It is not packable into a pocket but is very conducive to it, I can fold it up tightly into a waterproof bag I have. But if it was not a birthday gift to myself, I really could not justify the amount paid. I would expect to pay this amount for more extreme cold weather rain gear than the thin material this has. I think it is a great product but overpriced

Rated 4 out of 5 by LGFEO from Form and function as equal partners I had a tough time choosing a color for this jacket, but went with white with grey piping. Glad I did. This one really stands out and I have received a lot of good comments on how it looks. I hope I can keep it clean :o) Since receiving it last week, it's rained 3 times and the jacket functioned perfectly. Two features that steered me to this model over some others on the Columbia site were the extra hood adjustments (I have a small head and I like being able to adjust the size to be more fitting) and the underarm vents (zippers). I am super happy so far and hope that the durability is as great as the style and functionality. Let it rain!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BilltheIceHiker from Very Good I have just returned home from a 110km section hike of the Appalachian Trail. It rained, it hailed, it was below freezing every morning. I am someone who always treats and cleans my jackets to keep up the DWR as its critical to it functioning. No matter how good the jacket is wets out after 30 mins of hard rain. This jacket doesn't wet out, it's tough, and I don't have to baby it. It breaths really well and the pit zips and pocket vents are great. I really love how the pocket vents go all the way up the inside. It makes a big difference. I wore the this jacket all day when it rained on off and we were up in the clouds. I also used it on cold mornings as a wind breaker/warm layer. It breathes well enough that you can hike hard in it around 0C with the vents open. The jacket I had is a medium and it fits true to size. The colour looks like it does on the website and the weight is 334g. One concern I had when I first got the jacket was that it seemed noisy. But when wearing it I didn't notice it at all. One nice feature is the polyester lining bonded jacket on the inside. You can wear t shirt and doesn't feel like its sticking to you. Compared other types of waterproof membranes this one is the best I have used. Don't think this jacket will keep you from sweating (no jacket can). But its keep the rain and wind out and keeps you from getting soaked from the inside. Overall an awesome jacket!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Dprio from Cheap Flimsy I have bought previously from the Titanium line and have come to expect the best. This jacket falls way short of that. Yes, it will keep you dry, but it is ugly and feels like it cost about $20 dollars to produce, not $175. I am very disappointed and will never buy anything online from Columbia again. I will want to see and touch any Columbia product prior to purchase in the future. Very sad!
