Rated 4 out of 5 by from It never let up the first portion of this review is first impressions then the second part will be after a vigorous outing so stay tuned till the end. So I bought this jacket kind of last minute because I couldn't find mine and I was leaving for a trip in a week. So I did a little research and found that there were a lot of good reviews on this product and thought I would give it a go. i ordered it on Monday and received it a few days later. the fit and finish of the product looked great. i have had sooooo many rain jackets its not even funny i feel like a am kind of obsessed with them but anyway this one was a little different than your standard gortex multilayer system. it was more like a rain slicker so i was kind of nervous how breathable it would be. the fit was awesome plenty of movement the pockets are great fully waterproof with mesh liners so it can double as a venting system. the hood is perfect you can synch it down one handed very simple to operate with minimalistic features. The cuffs are at a slight angle so you have more hand function. The jacket was light enough to stuff into a small sack or into its own pocket even though it isn't meant for that it worked quite well. Okay so on the the adventure. So i was going on a trout fishing three day two night outing. The weather was calling for thunderstorms Friday sleet snow and hail Saturday and 7 to 10 inches of snow Sunday. Me and my good buddy went for it anyway. we slept in hammocks under tarps, the streams where blown out and fishing was tear able. The weather was kicking our but and it just wouldn't let up. So i put this jacket on along with my waders and i wore it the entire weekend. The jacked took a beating. I was sawing and splitting wood on and off throut the weekend so my body temps were up and down and this jacket did a great job breathing and maintaining a comfortable core temp. The jacket was great in the fact that it blocks the wind keeps you dry and breaths it is truly phenomenal i don't think i would have lasted without it my buddy had to go sleep in the truck Saturday night because his jacket did not breath as well after it wetted out. the big thing with the other breathable membranes that have an outer layer that say wets out or gets dirty it clogs the membranes and it will no longer breath. I have been doing the breathable rain jacket thing for a long time now and this outdry stuff is a awesome concept and impressed me last weekend. I was climbing trees to make shelter, i fell in the mud on my right side. got rained on snowed on and hailed on for three days and was completely dry truly a remarkable jacket i will be purchasing the pans with my next paycheck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for hard rain Other rain jackets don’t stand up to hours of rain. This jacket from Columbia is built for long periods of hard rain. The jacket has a sportier fit (slim in the chest) it’s not restrictive. The material as expected is sort of garbage bag/ breathable rubber like for the lack of a better comparison and little noisy but definitely acceptable since it keeps me dry in tough conditions. This jacket is perfect for what it’s designed to do. Love that it’s lightweight so I can throw a hoodie underneath and still keep the hood up on both the hoodie and the rain jacket and it keeps me warm in cooler conditions but if it’s warmer out I can just use it as a shell. This bag stays in my emergency kit for work since I work mostly outdoors this was a staple to my jacket collection. Would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good outdoor coat Absolutely, this's a good coat for those love to outdoor sports. But, here's a little problem, the coat not exactly black as I thought, it's a little transparent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket! True to size. Functional. As expected from Columbia premium merchandise. Item is much more “grey” than black, but it actually looks better in person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Really Will Stay Dry, Really Rainy PA trail runs? No problem staying dry with this excellent, lightweight Columbia jacket! Tired of spending big bucks for a product that doesn't deliver, and finding out the sad truth only after you are several miles into a training run? (Even after you've read favorable reviews first.) No such concerns with the Columbia OutDry Light Shell! I was extremely happy with this product, because it really does what it is supposed to do--keep you dry and not feeling like you are wearing a WWII era surplus tarp. I don't mind getting wet and muddy on the trail, not at all, but when I want to stay dry and enjoy the run this jacket is what I'll wear. And as we age (hiss, boo) keeping mindful of ways to ward-off colds, chills, flu-like symptoms is an important aspect of daily life for any runner, not just us "vintage" models. This jacket is well worth the price. Some of the features were puzzling for me at first--working the drawstring hood for one, but wow! once I mastered the jackets' features, we're now running friends for life. It's a great, functional, runner designed product. Get one and enjoy the trails on a wet, rainy day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gore-tex Whats That? With this jacket you will forget that Gore-tex was the best out there. Because this has knocked it out of the park. My outdry experience started with the original outdry extreme gold jacket and after wearing it for eight months ever day it started to discolour, so I pulled warranty they covered it no problem. And then I decided to upgrade to this one. Its much more athletic fitting which was nice for me. I've has this jacket for about four months now and its been amazing. I recommend this jacket for those who are tired of blowing through jackets twice a year, like me. For those who don't want to be wet but want to go on rainy walks or runs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and functional I got the chance to test my jacket the day after it arrived. I went for a morning run in a persistent cold rain. When I got back after 45 minutes my top was dry, but my lower layer was damp with perspiration because I was wearing non- breathable rain pants (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A welcome addition to my OutDry "family" The latest addition to my OutDry "family" of jackets--I now have eight jackets and one pair of the pants. I've been impressed with all of them - the waterproofing and durability, but I put this one to the ultimate test this weekend-Niagara Falls. After we bought our tickets to the "Maid of the Mist" boat ride, I passed on the plastic poncho and decided to wear my jacket instead. Well, I'm glad I did! After getting underway, I realized that my phone was in my shorts pocket and would likely get drenched, so I put it in the OutDry jacket pocket, zipped up my jacket, cinched the hood and braved the spray of mighty Niagara! While we were buffeted by winds and drenching spray from the falls, the water just beaded up and rolled off my jacket. The people in the ponchos got no protection, as the wind whipped them around. My jacket kept me dry and, more importantly, my phone dry! When we got back to the dock, my phone was bone dry and just a shake of the jacket and it dried quickly. My light gray t-shirt underneath was completely dry - my shorts, not so much. Next time, I'll wear the pants too! Thanks Columbia, for making such an awesome product. I am a convert - I'll never buy another kind of rain gear! I've made believers out of my friends and I would gladly promote the OutDry technology to anyone who asked - if you ever need a spokesman, I'm your man!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice shell I bought the zinc shell. It has a black zipper; the neon zipper was a preproduction model. The jacket is the color of a faded pair of jeans. I like it. It is the most waterproof thing I've ever owned or heard of. You simply will not get wet in it. There are no inside pockets. I wish it had some. The outside pockets are huge, though -- even bigger than the zipper opening. The look of the jacket is different to other shells. It's a little shiny, almost like a garbage bag but it's much thicker than a garbage bag. It makes a little crinkly noise when it moves, but it's not loud. Just different to a rustle made by other fabrics. It's lightweight and should pack easily. All the silver printing on the jacket, even the Columbia logo, is reflective. Overall, this is a good jacket. Inside pockets would have made it a great jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice lightweight shell I haven't had much use with it however, I can tell that this shell will be a great stow-away rain jacket. Just what I need when taking long hikes. Really lightweight and seems to block the rain well. Definitely well thought out with weight in mind.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps Me Dry and Cool Overall the rain jacket works as promised. Keeps the weather out, very lightweight, while not getting overheated on hikes. I ordered an extra large which for most clothing fits comfortably, a bit tight no this one. Overall good product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Color shipped not as shown on website If you purchase the zinc (shown with a bright green zipper) please be aware that you may not get the advertised color. My husband wanted the zinc because of the zipper color, and what he received was a black zipper. If we would have known this, he would have ordered the other color option. We contacted Columbia the day the jacket was received in mid March. They were going to check into it and as of April 11, we have not heard one word. The jacket itself is fine, the customer service is not.
