Rated 4 out of 5 by LucasLucas from Great Lightweight Do Everything Pants I've been struggling to find a simple, elastic waistband, nylon pant. I was delighted to discover these, and the decent price point for the quality of the garment. I also own the shorts, which I have reviewed and love. One thing to note before going into the specifics of the pant, is that I wear a medium short, and a large pant. I tried wearing a medium pant, and they are just a bit too tight (but the shorts are perfect), and the large is just a bit too loose (so I went with a little loose for comfort). I'm about six feet tall, 195 pounds and around a 34 waist. I have an athletic build, especially in the thighs. I think the shorts worked because they were... short. The pants being full length were a bit restrictive for my legs in the medium size. See my shorts review for my comments on the material, liner, waistband, pockets ect. (all the things consistent between the two). I gave the shorts a five star review. I love these pants, they are perfect for wearing at the beach as a light, airy, cool layer that keeps the sun off. They work great for coaching (I'm a beach volleyball coach), hiking, backpacking, casual wear, gardening— really, I can and do wear them for everything. Maybe this is because I sized up to the large, but I found the pant legs to be a bit too open and flowy. Not a huge problem, but they feel a bit too baggy. I returned my mediums, however I'm curious now that I'm writing this if my mediums would fix this. Regardless of size, I would love to have a slight taper to the pant legs. They are straight leg as far as I can tell. If they had a really small taper to them, that could eliminate the baggy, blows in the wind, parachute feeling they have. An elastic cuff at the bottom of the pant legs could be a good thing, but not entirely sure if it would be beneficial. However, it could be a nice touch to a slightly tapered leg. Fours star because of the in between size fit and the pant legs feeling a bit too big and open. Other than that (and more colors!), these are my go to everyday pant for work and play.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Docj from Nice but Small The sizing chart shows XL for size 40 waist. These are much smaller, XL no bigger than 38 more like 36 waist. I didn't realize until after they had been washed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Susan1 from Light Weight Kool Pants These pants are not only functional but are almost as cool as wearing shorts. I wear them exclusively. I wish there were more colors then green, gray and tan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by flyingcolonel from Outstanding pants Having had several Backcast shorts for a year or so, I figured I would try the pants as well. Good decision! They fit exactly like the shorts. I realize some people don't like the built-in mesh, but I'm a fan of that feature. I have all 3 colors and wish you had more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Xenon from Backcast Pants Inner Linnng The product was okay if you like mesh linning for underwear. I do not and didn't know it was made like a swim suit inner underwear. I returned it and the process is going well so far. Overall very satisfied with the company and process except the informatin provided on the product. I would not have bought it with the knowledge of the inner linning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Permitman from Perfect salt water flats fishing pant. This pant is perfect for the salt water flats fisherman. Cool and protects from the sun. Drawstring waste and belt loops allow me to use my own web belt to which the fishing pliers are attached. (Built -in belts are no good when you have to wear one anyway) Can fish from skiff or get in and wade and they dry quickly. Mesh brief helps as underwear would add another layer that would by hard to get dry while wearing them. Comfortable fit. Elastic waste and drawstring allow a functional fit even if I gain or loose a little weight between salt water trips. Only concern is that the website no longer shows the pant in the light tan color which is the best one for flats fishing. A zippered fly would be the only improvement I would suggest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ldyflyfisher from Great Multi-Purpose Pant I've been wearing the Backcast pant for years. I am a woman, but buy these pants because they are long enough. They also wear well and look nice. I use them for fishing, hiking, yard work and dog training. I cut out the mesh brief and am good to go. I hope Columbia never stops making them. I'm 5'10 inches tall and 150 lbs. I purchased the medium/34". I'll have to shorten the length an inch, but the 32 is too short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TaiChiStudent49 from Lightest Weight - Perfect Tai Chi Pants I bought these pants for practicing Tai Chi. I am a student of Tai Chi and these very light weight pants allow easy movement with no restrictions. After 2 wearings, I cut away the mesh lining. It just felt funny and had to go. The elastic waist is firm, but not restrictive. I have tried wearing a belt, but it is redundant. They have the feel (but not the look) of very comfortable pajamas and I have had to check myself several times before wearing them in public. They look really good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Mikex21 from Not for men These pants look and fit great, but ... there is no front zipper. That's an immediate zero for a men's pant. In addition, the "cell phone" pocket on the right leg needs some type of closure to be usable. My phone, and other items, almost always slipped out when I sat down; now the pocket goes unused. Finally, there is a mesh lining in the crotch. I'm not sure why it is there other than to further annoy me (faux underwear maybe?). I plan to cut it out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by BWilliams from great fishing pant Great lightweight pant to keep you out of the sun, and away from the bugs. I wear these pants fishing on both the boat and standup paddleboard. Only thing I would change would be to eliminate the inside mesh breif. I modified mine by cutting it out with scissors. Simple painfree modification anyone can do. I will defiantly be buying more of them..

Rated 5 out of 5 by daddyG1946 from great product but with one short fall this would be the best pair of fishing pants on the planet if it just had a zipper fly so u didn't have to pull down your pants to go to the rest room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Waiter49 from Just what I was looking for! I am very pleased with these pants. I volunteer at a local humane society and one of the things I do there is walk and work with the more problematic dogs. I am required by policy to wear long pants when I'm with the dogs, to prevent scratches to the legs. Wearing jeans in the summer in southeastern Virginia when you are being physically active outside is miserable. These pants are just what I needed. They are lightweight and comfortable and have been able to protect my legs from very large dogs. I am amazed at their durability. Since I am not hot and miserable from wearing heavy jeans, I am able to spend more time with the dogs and help them become more adoptable. I thank you and the dogs thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Yoshi from Pretty awesome pants. These pants fit and feel great. I am 5'8" and weigh around 175lbs, the Large fit my 36" waist perfectly with room to move around a little. The exact fit I was looking for. I opted for the 30" inseam to wear these barefoot or with sandals on exclusively. Otherwise I would have gone with the 32" to wear with boots. The brief on the inside feels ok, nothing special there but reminds me of wearing swim trunks when I was a kid...aside from that there is a drawstring on the inside too, which the description doesn't mention. A nice touch for those thinking that this is exclusively an elastic waistband and may not want to buy based on that. The pockets are all good sized, the back pocket has a nice zip closure for those items you don't want to fall out, and the little lower "carpenter" pant pocket (as i'm calling it), fits an iPhone 5C with an Otterbox case perfectly! The PFG throws me off a little bit, as I don't see why they didn't just leave that out (i'm not a fisherman), and it saying that on them makes people who don't fish not want to wear or buy stuff that says "it's for fishing" in. These pants are a summer weight for sure, and actually look very sharp by themselves. I plan to wear these at a beach wedding this summer. The "Fossil" color is a nice natural tan, blends perfectly with beaches, dunes, or desert environments. The "Cypress" color is a lovely mossy shade that would be great in any forest, jungle, or mountain range. (Get both). Other than that, these pants are really great, lightweight, packable, and affordable! I highly recommend, and will be buying the other color as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kokanee44 from very good product....just what I was looking for These pants are really comfortable and look good. I like the cell phone pocket on the side. It doesn't have a flap or zipper on it, but works for keeping my smartphone in place and out of the way. These are a very light fabric and I would not recommend them for really cold mornings unless you wear long underwear with them. They are a relaxed fit so they look a little baggy but give you plenty of room to move. Already bought a second pair in the fossil color as well. Only reason I don't give these 5 stars is I just bought them and I don't know how durable they will be in the long run. I do a lot of fishing and other outdoor activities so I want products that wear well over time. That will be the true test. I have Columbia shorts made of the same fabric that have held up well for years so I expect these pants to do the same.
