Hike on....
Great for hiking, fishing or the everyday wear. They perform great in summer to fall months because switching from pants to shorts is quick and simple. Super comfortable and very lightweight keeping temperature and flexibility at your control. Pockets are placed at strategic areas and adaptable to needs.... A must for the hiker or fisherman!

excellent product!
I bought this pair of convertible pants for my husband, the pants look so nice and well-made and fit perfectly like tailor made, and the zippers work very well, and we especially like the color and texture of the pants. We travel a lot internationally, visiting different countries. My husband loves to wear shorts whenever is possible, but sometimes the weather is chilly in the morning, and sometimes the mosque we visit does not allow men to wear shorts. Having a pair of convertible is very convenient for my husband. Columbia convertible pants rank the number one place among all the convertible pants, according to google search, and the price is very reasonable and affordable, we are all very happy about the purchase. Thanks a lot, Columbia!

Beware: Columbia has "updated" these pants!
These used to be my favorite pants. However, Columbia has recently changed the design in several ways that have made them less attractive and functional than they were before. The R & L pull tab indicators on the zip-off pant legs, which were very useful to have, have disappeared. There's also a large unttractive OMNI SHADE logo heat stamped on the hem on the lower leg that wasn't there previously. Zipper hardwear, buttons, and pocket material are all of lower, flimsier quality now as well. None of these are illustrated in the photos on the Columbia website, which still shows the older version of the pants - so know that you'll be receiving the "updated" version if you order these and expect to recieve the same ones you already have. A Columbia rep told me that the pants have been "updated" and "improved" thanks to customer feedback, though it's hard for me to imagine anyone specifically requesting lower quality materials, more ovety branding, and that certain features be removed. Seems more like a cost-cutting measure to me.

A great pair of pants (and shorts)
I’m very happy with the convertible pants. They’re light, comfortable and super easy to convert to shorts and back. They ran a tiny bit longer then I expected but overall great product.

didn’t hold up at all
Full disclosure, I bought these from Cabelas so it’s hypothetically possible they were a lower quality batch. But the quality was atrocious. Several seams came out and I had to restitch a number of spots, especially the crotch several times. They weren’t too tight a fit either, they were loose on me and I was dependent on the belt which seemed to fall out of a few loops every time I took them off. The material tore very easily while hiking and in just a year o had to patch three rips. I finally gave up and spent a little more for a tougher-seeming pair from Prana, time will tell if that was the right move.
The Columbia pants are not backed by a lifetime warranty. It is only one year, and in my experience even that is not enough. You need a proof of purchase which was troublesome for me because of wear I bought, although with REI that’s not an issue. Still, I will not buy another pair of these.
The design is great. The quality is not.

Prefect Hiking Pant
This pants are my go to for anything outdoor. Comfortable and flexible they provide you with great motion when you are active. The zippers work great when you are looking for shorts. They can be easily be layered with long johns when you are in cold weather. If you don’t own a pair you; you should.

poor quality stitching
I puchased two pair these for kayaking pants as a quickdry convertible option. Nice cool l, lightweight material and is indeed quick drying but the pockets all stopped being pockets within 3 months, and just after a year the zip off leg hems started to fail at the seems as well... the first pocket failure started in about 3 weeks! It was the back right pocket, I usually keep trash in it so maybe a bottle cap started that problem... but then the back left went which I keep empty?! followed soon after the front right...

Snug
They are a bit snug around the thighs & crotch and the pockets are not very roomy. That combination seems to defeat the purpose of cargo trail pants. Also with the standard front pockets being fully mesh, depending on what you have in them, it can be uncomfortable with things poking or scratching on your legs. They're ok when standing, but when sitting or especially squatting, they kind of smash "things" down there. I chose these over the other trail pants available at the time for 2 reasons, cost and they were the only ones that had at least a partial vertical zipper on the removable legs. My previous REI brand of trail pants had full vertical zippers on the removable legs. No sit zip off legs they were called. Unfortunately, they never saw the trail due too a bad automobile crash wherein my foot was smashed, but they came in extremely handy when I was wearing walking boots and casts for 2 years. I wore the heck out of them and still wear them now. I basically have lived in them for 3-4 years at this point

Great price for a paid of functional pair of pants
Wore these out on a photography trip. Nice and cool material. Dried pretty quick around the waist where I was sweating a lot. Nice lightweight belt included. I love how they have one cargo pocket that is zippered. Came in handy for items I didn't want to lose. Overall great price for a great pair of functional pants.

Silver Ridge convertible pants are the ones
Bought a pair a couple weeks ago. Amazing pants!!
Light, durable, packable- Breathable! They fit perfectly, come with a handy belt and switch to shorts easily.
Material is water resistant but doesn't hold perspiration, so they're perfect for hiking or other outdoor activities. Lightweight fabric is backpacking friendly, where 2 or 3 pair wouldn't weigh your pack down.
Also a factor, they look great like all Columbia gear. That makes wearing them ANYWHERE even better.
I can't say enough good things. I recommend them!

Excellent pant for hiking and activities
The pant is lightweight, study, and looks good.
After Columbia had discontinued another pant I tried the Silver Ridge but it fit too small.
I kept trying competitors but nothing measured up. I then tried order one size lager than I normally wear and they were perfect.

I bought these for my annual trip to FL in January. We play a round of golf on the way from the airport to our condo. These easily convertible (winter long in MA to shorts warm in FL) pants save me rummaging through luggage for shorts. They are of excellent quality, very durable, good looking and I own several pair.

Simply awesome - very comfortable hiking
These pants are simply awesome. In the summer, I am 99.9% in shorts/swimsuit - on the boat/beach; however, I have recently gotten back into hiking/backpacking and purchased these pants because of the convertible option - planning to wear them mostly as shorts. On a recent 2-night section hike, I decided to wear these only as long pants due to the tick risk. I was very surprised at how light they felt, how comfortable they wore, and how quickly they dried at the end of the day. I never felt constricted or restricted in movement (I am 225lbs). These pants have made it a very easy decision to go with long pants when hiking. The only nit I can make is that they did slide down despite wearing the included belt (I suspect an issue with any pants); however, my pack's hip belt prevented that from being a real problem. I also tried on two other brands of convertible pants; these were the only ones that were 100% accurate fit - especially the inseam length. At this price point, I will be picking up another pair. PS: My son was also wearing his own pair of these pants on the hike - a total coincidence; he has been wearing them on hikes for awhile and looked at me like - Yeah, these are the only thing I wear hiking.

Size runs very small
I have worn Columbia pants and shorts for years. I’m 32 waist x 30. Always. These pants/shorts were extremely tight in the waist and thighs and butt. I could not wear them. As usual, Columbia was great in dealing with the return and refund. I recommend them because Columbia has proven to be a fantastic product but I didn’t try to find the right size because I didn’t want to deal with having to return again. I recommend you go up a size. Possibly two. Aloha.

Great travel pants
I purchased these pants because of the feature that they could be used as either shorts or long pants on a recent trip to Europe, and came in a 28-inch inseam. They were great! Lightweight, easy to pack, wash and dry. Plenty of pockets to safely keep accessories safe, including a zipper pocket on the thigh for a wallet. I liked them so much, I got a second pair in a different color. Size was appropriate.

Major Design Flaw
The whole point of convertible pants is that you can put the legs on and off easily, like maybe trailside. But these have no zipper coming up from the ankle so a shoe or boot can be pulled through. So if you want to take them off as the trail warms up or put them on in the evening, you'll likely be taking off your shoes too. These are going back today. So disappointing.

Excellent Three-Season Hiking Pants
I took these on my first descent into Grand Canyon in July. We started in 60-degree weather at the rim and finished at the Indian Garden campground where it later rose to 105 degrees. Being able to zip off the legs was crucial in keeping cool during our decent. The material is thin, so I certainly wouldn't recommend these for winter hiking -- but then again why would one want convertible pants in the winter? Please note the fit is on the slim side which is what works best for my body type.

Love the Pants - pair came small
I love these pants. They are lightweight, they are pretty trim (not baggy), they look good, and they are functional. I own four pairs, since they have replaced jeans as my casual pant of choice.
I recently ordered the blue online - same size as the rest - and it is too small in the waist by about 1 size. That's the only reason I gave the pants 4 stars instead of five. I plan on returning the pants at a nearby store and getting another pair that I can try on.
So I very highly recommend these pants, but since you can't try them online, consider that they may run slightly small.

OK, but lacking in features
The pants do what they claim. Light weight, UV protection and convertable. However, there is no phone pocket and there aren't enough belt loops. I use these for fishing and usually carry a multi-tool. However, the lack of belt loops allows the multi-tool to slip completely to the back of my pants and makes sitting uncomfortable. Also, the pockets are a very light mesh, so they are not really useful for holding much. A small pocket for holding a phone would also be a good idea. Finally, I bought the khaki color and they are permanently stained after just a few uses.
So, not bad pants, but definitely not great pants.

Nice pants, but poor quality stitching on pockets
I've had these pants for about 3 months and have only worn them about 6 times. I was going camping the other day and had my cell phone in the left zipper pocket. My phone kept falling out and I noticed there was a hole in the pocket. It looks like the stitching on that particular pocket just sort of came apart. I've never snagged the pocket on anything and I have always followed the proper care instructions when washing. They could be a great pair of pants if better care was taken when manufacturing them. I'll see if I can return them and get something else.

Just what I was looking for
I wanted a lightweight summer pants that looked good enough to wear to an office, and yet were comfortable and cool enough for city or wilderness hikes. These pants fit the bill. Other lightweight hiking pants I had tried contained a stretchable fiber which did not breathe at all and was very hot on humid days. No problem with these. I love them.

Hugely Disappointed
I've already owned two pair of Columbia convertibles for a long time - so long I can't even remember (re: 90's or early 00's?). Incredibly well made, durable, with deep and large cargo pockets up front. Hands down the best convertibles I've ever owned, not even close! Sadly, I recently messed up one of the leg zippers in a spring skiing gaffe (yes that's how versatile/durable they are, but I tangled it up on a ski buckle). So, I figured I'd just order the new version, no problem right? Wrong! They just arrived and without even bothering to try them on they're going back - they don't even remotely resemble the quality of the pairs I already own. The fabric is noticeably thinner and feels frail, but even worse, the cargo pockets are noticeably shallower and made of mesh - very similar to all the other vastly inferior brands I've tried over the years. No thanks - I'll just go get that old zipper repaired!!!
