Decent shirt, but only a qualified recommendationI really wanted to like this shirt, but I found just a few too many cons to give it a strong recommendation. First off, this shirt does several things well - wicking and cooling. The fabric by itself does a good job absorbing and releasing moisture - better than other wicking shirts that I have tried. The little cooling circles seem to do what they promise as well. I hiked in 80 degree weather with rather high humidity (tough to dry out a shirt conditions) and I really felt cool on parts of my back, especially when I got even the mildest of breezes. So I definitely liked the performance. I don't know how long the dots will last, but they do work. Also the shirt was a great color - vibrant without being too bright.
Now for the cons, which sadly outweigh the positives for me. The first mild con is the fit. It is a very snug fit, as wicking layers are supposed to be, but I feel it is a bit too snug for the listed sizes. I'm a solid L in most brands, sometimes dropping to a medium when I want/need a close fit. After reading the reviews for this shirt I ordered an XL and I'm really glad that I did. It is snug still but with enough room to move a bit and not completely hug my body like the L likely would have. Second, while the fabric has great performance, it isn't that nice against the skin. It feels very synthetic and a little bit scratchy - not so much to be a deal breaker, but something to be aware of, as I have worn performance shirts that have felt nicer on the skin. And the last con, which is the worst one for me is the durability of the shirt. For the price charged for a performance shirt meant for the outdoors, I expect several years of use. After just two wears and a single wash, the shoulders are starting to fuzz where my day pack straps hit, some stitches are looking a little loose, and I got a pretty significant snag from washing it. I have never gotten a snag like this from the wash before. There were no zippered items in the wash to catch on. This tells me that this wouldnt be a good shirt for hiking in the woods. If it snags this badly in the wash, I'd hate so see what it does while scrambling through even mild brush. While I am OK chalking this up as a fluke or bad luck, all of the wear I am seeing already gives me zero confidence that the shirt will last long enough to justify the price. I have shirts with over a decade of hiking and travel on them that still look almost unused.
As such, it is hard to recommend the shirt for someone that does a lot of travel or outdoor activities. If you need a walk around summer shirt, then this would be a solid buy (don't forget to size up). As someone who demands a bit more for his money, I am dissapointed in the shirt to the point I would return it if I could to find a more durable shirt even at the expense of the very good wicking and cooling that this shirt does a great job of providing.

Doesn't wick, too heavyI like my performance fit omni freeze shirts but they aren't available anymore. This shirt is not as good because it gets heavy as you sweat and ends up feeling like you jumped in a pool with a shirt on. If you're not doing intense workouts it is probably OK.

Great Tech / Great ShirtI guess my only knock would be with the shirt being a very light gray / almost white, you see all of the "cooling" dots through the shirt. So really, the shirt is very see through.
It works great as an undershirt, i don't think i'd wear it as a normal shirt for hiking and kayaking.

WAY TOO SMALLColumbia is known to run small, but this shirt runs the smallest of all Columbia shirts I have owned. I am 6'4" and about 250 lbs and I bought a 2x and it fit me like a Large would. I know it's an active fit, but it was tight. The material on the other hand is pretty awesome I just wish it would have fit.
