Rated 5 out of 5 by CEGradStudent from Perfect for my uses I love this backpack! It is a little small as other reviewers have said, but it works well for my purposes. I'm a graduate student and I love the laptop sleeve/pocket, but it isn't padded at all, which makes me a little nervous. It fits my 13" Sony Vaio Pro perfectly though-- not too tight, but it also doesn't slide around. I love the mesh pockets on the sides-- they fit both my coffee thermos and my Camelbak waterbottle. The straps are very sturdy and the back is slightly padded and curves around my back well-- I've noticed that it actually keeps me warm (compared to my old Dickie's backpack). The main pockets don't hold much, but I only use it for my laptop and accessories, and a notebook or two. (It doesn't fit binders well.) I can squeeze a small lunch pail inside too, but the backpack is more curved on the outside (think "turtle shell") so whenever I have something bulky, I need to squeeze it in. It sits in the bottom of the bag just fine with plenty of space, but it's a bit of a squeeze to get it in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ecliptic216 from Great for a Small Day Pack This is a high-quality pack with features that are sufficient for what it is: a small day pack. It has an attractive appearance and the features are as-described. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. For the sake of full disclosure, here are a few small concerns I have: 1. It may technically fit a 15" laptop, but my MacBook Pro (slimmer than many 15" laptops) is very snug and literally fits tight against the top zipper. It does fit, but I'm leary of traveling far with the top part of the laptop so susceptible to bumping. 2. The openings of the pockets (especially the small mini-pocket on the front) are small and sometimes difficult to access in a hurry. The organization and the smooth appearance are nice, but the pocket design doesn't allow the front pockets to be as functional as they could be. 3. The outside bottle pockets are a bit too small. I can technically fit my Nalgene bottle in them, but it's very tight. Also, the compression straps on the sides of the pack are close to the bottle pockets, and that sometimes makes it difficult to slide the bottle in without looking. My overall opinion of this pack is good and I'm very happy with my purchase. I love the appearance of it, I love how slimline it is, I love how comfortable it is when I'm wearing it, I love the tablet pocket (it's hard to tell in the pictures, but the tablet pocket is inside of the laptop pocket... in other words, if you carried both a laptop and a tablet, the tablet would be wedged in between the laptop and the back padding), and I'm impressed with its high-quality construction. It's not perfect, but it's the best and most affordable pack I've seen as I've been looking for a replacement for a competitor's pack that I've had for 10+ years. In my search, I found very few normal-looking and affordable packs in the 1,300 cu. in. range. I only mentioned the negatives so that future buyers know some things to be aware of and so that the company is aware of some things that could improve on future packs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by elhedge from Not according to specs on size Specifications say fits 15" laptop but my 14.5 x 1.25" laptop just barely fits. I cannot use the laptop sleeve (maybe under 13" really) which makes airport security annoying. If you are looking for a school-sized daypack try something bigger - the main pocket will just take your lunch and a windbreaker. After hard usage for a month the zipper has NOT broken but I am putting a lot of strain on it. Once I have my laptop in, there is just room for an e-reader and a larger-style laptop cord in the main pocket. The tag in the main pocket is lined up just perfectly to get in the way when you try and zip it. The middle pocket is pretty roomy, although narrow in width, and I can fit my 35 mm camera, first aid kit and very small purse here. The material is sturdy and does not show wear easily.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Ampurp85 from Beautiful but small like all of Columbia products So I am preparing for a European trip that will include some backpacking. I needed a bag that was durable, beautiful and big. I had already ordered a 3n1 jacket, which of course was not true to size, so I made sure to ask for specification on this bag before I ordered. The specifications said this bag and the Thundercone were similar, if not exact, in size so I settled on this for aesthetic reasons. This bag is well made, water/dirt proof and easy on the back...but small. I currently have a bunch of items packed in it, in hopes of stretching it out before the trip. The little front pocket is good for keys or your passport for easy access. The side straps above the side pockets makes carrying water bottles a breeze and there is some nice padding in the largest compartment that can protect a tablet or laptop. It arrived so compressed I wouldn't believe a magazine could fit inside but hopefully after some time it will be able to carry all of my essentials. The only reason I am harking on the size issue is because it is listed as a trial/travel bag.
