Rated 1 out of 5 by ColdinSD from Running hat unsuitable for winter wear Exactly what the title describes. Let me start by saying I live in South Dakota. It’s been highs in the 30’s max for the last week and we have snow. Winter is officially here. That said, I purchased a similar hat to this last year from Columbia. It was perfectly warm but the stitching came undone and I had to return it. I chose this as a replacement as it’s very similar aesthetically. Once I received it I discovered that this is a hat designed for running and being hot and sweaty. It is NOT MEANT for winter wear, for skiing, or any outdoor work where you’ll be in the cold for any length of time. I wore it to get the mail to test it in thirty degree weather with a thirty mile and hour wind. It was as if I went outside with no hat on. If you want a warm winter hat keep looking.

It fits snug enough not to blow off when running the boats, yet not to tight that is becomes uncomfortable. Lightweight and very functional. Thanks...

Rated 4 out of 5 by geeme from Very Good Layering Beanie The fabric of this beanie is very thin so it can be worn under a helmet or other hat. The omni-heat dots only go down to the top of the earband; they don't extend below it. The shape of the beanie contours the face so it covers the ears and back of the neck. There is an envelope-type opening for a ponytail in the earband. I am a woman with a small frame so I bought the S/M and it is just a tad too big. However, I wore it over a Windstopper beanie that fits snugly and is thin and the combo worked very well. I wore that combo for a run tonight (no sun) at 46F with wind and my head and ears were plenty warm. For me, being thin and chilling easily, putting a thicker or wool cap over that combo at colder temps will be perfect. I like that I will be able to remove layers as I warm up from my run. I am giving this beanie 4 stars as a signal to folks looking for a single beanie that is very warm that this is fine for cool temps alone, but more layers are needed at cold temps. For just my need as a layering piece, though, I'd give it 5 stars.
