Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stylish and Warm I love this jacket! It's super comfy and I can not count how many compliments I got on it. I am 4'10" and bout 115, bought a small and only slightly swim in it but it leaves plenty of room for layers, though it keeps me pretty warm on its own. The only downfall is the main body material doesn't seem to stand up to much abuse. I've had the jacket for a month now, living in alaska, and already have 9 small holes in it. Hopefully its just a fluke because I love this jacket but I'd rather it not have to be covered in tape already.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TheU Very light weight. Have not tested this jacket in the winter yet but it seems very well made and comfortable. I am usually a small but some of the Columbia jackets seem to be too big even with layers. Will return for an XS for a better fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Coat for a Great Price So in full disclosure, I haven't worn this coat during the winter yet. I just got it at the end of April, which part of me hoped would jinx away the snow that we were still getting off and on in upstate NY and part was just in case it didn't. I've been a long time Columbia Sportswear fan because the quality of their product is great and if you have issues with it, they will either fix it or replace it. This new coat is replacing a Boulder Ridge coat that was 19 years old (and still in great condition with the exception of a broken zipper!). What I already like right away about this coat is the attached hood. It's permanently attached, unlike my Boulder Ridge one, which was flimsy and attached by snaps. I feel like this new hood is better because it doesn't allow for snow to sneak in and it's a little heavier weight. When trying on the new coat, my husband commented that it was so much less bulky than my previous coat, but I know from experience that the Omni Heat lining keeps you so much warmer than other coats - and without the added bulk, so you can look semi-stylish in the height of winter. I ordered this in a large, as I'm currently pregnant, so my regular medium (always order one coat size larger than my regular clothing size) isn't fitting over my 8-month pregnant belly! I'm expecting that this will come in usual for baby #2 as well. We get really cold here in upstate NY, so this will be my coat for the really extreme weather, when I want something that covers even more than my other Columbia jackets that just hit at the waist/hips do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice and warm Live in Mississippi where winters can be mild to cold down to 16 - 20’ at times. Had a cold night after I got it and it was nice and warm in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Warm I have other Columbia jackets with down, synthetic down and omni-heat. This blows them all away for warmth! I am always cold, and this keeps me toasty warm on the ski slopes and in hockey rinks. I highly recommend this jacket!! The medium fits great - I am 5'7" 135# It does not zip into my Columbia shell to wear as a liner, but when I wore both coats skiing, I was too hot (a first). I wore a thin underlayer and it was perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I really like this jacket. I am always freezing even in the summer. I wear 6 layers. I wore this jacket for the first time on a day when it was 34 degrees With a breeze of the ocean that felt like 30! I only Wore 3 light layers, no heavy sweaters. And I was warm! I was even able to unzip it a little. I really like the fitted style. The sleeves are a little long but the Velcro holds them in place. I like the length. I am 5’1 so it’s longer on me. My friend Really likes it too. I am thinking about buying it in Another color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The absolute best, must have jacket for cold Winters are harsh here. I told my friends I would not return to Fairbanks when I was in college because of the cold (it was -45 on our wedding day in November). 15 years later my husband was transferred back and I new what I was in for. We went to the local Prospector Outfitters who carry Columbia and I found the HeatZone 1000 Turbodown jacket. It was light weight, like I was wearing a flannel shirt verses a parka... I liked that since it can be cold winter form October to March. This coat has made living here a joy. In fact, this last fall I was getting excited for the colder weather so I could wear it again. I am not talking a brisk 32. I am talking -20 to -60 from November through February... with no light, the ground does not warm and we are in a deep freeze. This year it was -20 and Thanksgiving when my zipper broke. I immediately went online and mailed my coat to be repaired. It took a while to process, and I emailed on January 5 looking for an ETA on my coat as the weather was going to dip down to the -20 and -30 (it had been unseasonably warm from thanksgiving to Christmas staying right around 0 to -10 and my lighter weight coat was working, but layers were a must). The response was within a day and they gave me a store credit to get a new coat. I found this exact same coat again after looking at all my options. This is tried and true and I am not ever cold... even while standing outside during the start of the Iditarod or visiting the world champion ice sculptures competition. It took two weeks to arrive and the day after I received my coat, the temperature dropped to -38. I am so thankful for this coat and the timing of customer service! With this coat, I am never cold or over burdened by the weight of a warm parka. This is the absolute best ever. Alaska tested and approved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight but mighty Yesterday was a good first test of this coat: 20 degrees F with a windchill of around 5 degrees F, light snow, and winds gusting to 30 mph. I wore this coat while running errands around Chicago yesterday afternoon and evening. I spent plenty of time time walking outdoors and waiting at bus stops. Beneath this coat, I wore a VERY thin, long sleeve, wool blend running top + a cashmere sweater + a cashmere scarf. I adjusted the bungee closures along the bottom hem to help seal in heat. At first, I had the coat zipped up to just the bottom of my neck. I was warm but felt an occasional draft inside the coat. Once I zipped the collar up to about the top of my neck, the draft disappeared: no wind got in there. I have 2 older Columbia Omni-Heat coats: one 650 turbodown, another with traditional down fill. Neither of them have this newer “turbodown wave” construction. Under both those older coats, I’d need to wear an Omni-Heat long-sleeve baselayer shirt + a sweater to stay toasty, and I’d still feel some occasional cold wind blowing through the seams. Had I worn an Omni-Heat baselayer beneath this new coat, I’d have been sweaty! Once I had the collar zipped higher, I felt no cold wind blowing through the coat seams. I did notice the outside of the arms weren’t as warm as the rest of the coat, but my arms weren’t freezing. On my short arms, the sleeves are too long. I work around that by either undercuffing them (roll the ends up under the sleeves) to achieve a good sleeve length, or just tightening the Velcro at the ends which produces a bunchier but doable sleeve. I love the zippered pocket on the left sleeve: I keep my public transit pass, lip balm, and a couple tissues in there for quick and easy access. The coat also has 2 large inner pockets, plus an zippered inner pocket. It also has a 2-way zipper, so you can unzip the coat from both top and bottom if you want. The hood is huge since it’s designed to fit over a ski helmet. But there are bungees on either side, plus one in the back of the hood, that let you adjust the size to fit (and stay up on) your head. If you can’t figure out how to get the hood to stay up, feel along the sides of the hood—just above the visible bungee cords—until you feel release buttons. Press and hold those while pulling the cords. See the shiny silver “Columbia Titanium” logo on the front of the coat? There’s a second one, just as big, on the back, centered between your shoulder blades. It’s covered up by the hood, so you can’t see it in the product photos. I’m not thrilled about having a second silver logo plastered on the coat... seems kinda cheesy/overkill to have two of those logos plus the silver T on one shoulder. But at least the back one’s covered up most of the time. Overall, I’m very happy with this coat. I may not ski in it (haven’t skied in many years) but I’ll definitely wear it during Chicago’s next round of polar temps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking jacket I was surprised and pleased with how attractive this jacket is. It is light weight and comfortable. Haven't had a chance to test the warmth yet. If it is as warm as advertised it will be the only coat I ski in next winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the greatest coat Love this coat comfortable and warm. I had to buy two. Only had the first one for about a month before it was stolen. I loved it so much I bought another one before it went out of season.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feels comfy and warm in it I couldn't try it on outside since most of the snow has already melted in the Sierras. Only issue I have is that some lumps of black thread iate visible under the top thin layer of the jacket, which look like blots of ink. It is in two different spots on the front part of the jacket, which I am conscious of. It may not be too obvious until you look close enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lightweight jacket for extreme weather I bought this jacket for a winter trip in Iceland. I am a person who is cold all the time and this jacket was my best friend on this trip. It kept me warm under all conditions: heavy snow, heavy rain and strong winds all combined with temperatures below 0ºC. I still had to layer it with a thermal and a fleece most of the time. The Omni heat really works and if you go on a more vigorous trecking it will make you sweat but as soon as you stop (or open the jacket) you'll feel dry again as it allows the transpiration to leave the jacket. When wet it dries very quickly. Be careful with what you put on the external pockets as those are not waterproofing. I couldn't fit it on the pocket as it is advertised, but it does occupy a tiny space on your bag and its super light weight. The zippers keep on getting stuck, that will be my only negative comment. My size was falling between an S and and M and I ended up ordering an S. i'm glad I did it as the jacket runs very large. Even with the S I was able yo add many layers below and this jacket only works if its close to your body, not allowing the cold air to get in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Word of warning If you select the red color please be aware that some darker down material will show thru the thin outer casing and give the jacket a spotty or dirty look. After doing research, I've found this is very common in down jackets that are of a lighter color and not a "Defect" per se. So, if this will bother you, I'd suggest either the black or dark blue color

Rated 4 out of 5 by from its warm but a little too much for the price style it looks great. price a little high quality was good size is a little bit big ( i order XS) color was ok its very light it has too many pockets so its a great plus the hood has a reflective which makes your head warm and cozy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from warm but not super warm Love the light weight and like many have posted, the jacket is warm for its weight. However when I wear it in cold weather my body is warm but my arms are noticeably cold from the shoulders down. Not sure if there is a lack of insulation or what. When I come in and take the jacket off you can feel the cold inside the jacket in the arm area whereas the rest of the jacket is not cold to touch inside. So if you are looking for a jacket for outside in truly cold weather you will either have to size up and layer under to keep warm or look elsewhere. If cold arms don't bother you or you are not out in -15C or colder often this is probably a great jacket but otherwise be prepared to not be as warm as you might expect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Outwear First thing first, I live in Canada. Winter hits -40 with wind chill. I brought this jacket to get through winter. I didn't expect this coat to be so light, which is a good thing. In the winter, the last you need is a heavy coat to stop your movement. The jacket provides an excellent job prevent cold bring away your body temperature. Outwear has a skiing style, which comes with a small pocket on the left arm, and extra two big pockets inside the jacket, which I found out very useful. I usual put my iphone in the two pockets to stop shutting down. As I mentioned before, The ski style jacket gives you a large hat, in case you wear a helmet for your sports. Overall, the jacket is great products. If you caught on sale, take it, won't regret!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Havent had to test it out yet but... This jacket fits great! It is super thin for a jacket as warm as it is so i still have fantastic ability to move around in it. Being the summer now tho, havent had the chance to test it out in actual cold weather, but i have no doubt it will be up to the challenge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny I don't ever ski but do have the occasional need for a very warm coat. I have had The North Face (sold those), Helly Hansen (which is nice and warm but bulky and very heavy) to name a couple of well known brands. I am consistently very satisfied with Columbia products. With the addition of this coat I could get rid of the Helly Hansen (which is 'so warm' that it comes with its own cooling system!) and never miss it. Plus this coat is complementary, not bulky, doesn't weigh much, and can really squish down in luggage. If necessary I do have room for an under layer of, say, the addition of a fleece top but haven't been in that desperately cold weather. I am so happy with my purchase! I am 5'2", 115lbs and I got the XS.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice jacket. Forgot the powder skirt This is one of the warmest and most comfortable jackets i have ever worn. I do have one complaint though. Why no powder skirt? Since this is marketed as a ski jacket you would think a powder skirt would be a no brainer. The only way I found this jacket worked for me when skiing was to pair it with the Avalanche Bomb Bib Pants. And I will admit they made a great combination. The bibs come high enough to stop most of the cold and snow from getting in. If you are thinking of wearing this jacket with waist high ski pants you may be better off getting a pair of bib pants instead. Hopefully next season Columbia will add that powder skirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome coat I love how warm this coat is without being bulky. Very flattering cut too. My only wish is that the hood was removable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always cold, but, not in this jacket I'm always cold... not sure if it just my chemistry or due to the fact I live in Phoenix, AZ where I am accustomed to high temperatures... so, now when I find myself in cooler/cold weather, this is my go to jacket! I primarily bought in anticipation of doing an August backpacking trip in Sweden, above the arctic circle (wanted something light weight and durable). While I probably won't have a ton of opportunities to use this prior to that trip #it's already been 97 in Phoenix#, I did use it for a weekend trip to New Mexico where it was considerably cooler #in Santa Fe, even in the 30's# and I was SUPER happy #i.e. warm) in this jacket. Icing on the cake is that it is super stylish! While I think I would have been perfectly find with a small, I bought a medium as I wanted to be able to add layers under and not be uncomfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from stylish and comfortable While I haven't yet worn the jacket in very cold temperatures, it was comfortable and I loved the way it looked. The only thing I would have liked would have been an extra zip pocket on the inside or out. I'd recommend it.
Date published: 2016-02-11
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm but with flaws The only one thing I complain about is the uncomfortable zipper--when you zip it all the way up to your neck, it makes your throat so uncomfortable. When you zip it all the way up, and when you bend your head (lower your chin down), the zipper is pushed in, that curve in pushes to your throat --though not choking you out, it's bothering!!!! Regarding warm, I am satisfied because I can feel the difference in warmth when I switch from another down coat to this one. Waist is relatively wider than chest. I feel ability tight around armpit and a bit too loose around waist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly as I expected Lightweight. I was expecting it to be heavy to be able to keep me as warm as it stated, but it keeps me warm even with the lightweight. When I take it off, the inside actually stays warm for quite awhile. Amazing fit. Amazing look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket This is the warmest jacket I have ever worn. It is light weight and not bulky. Finding a jacket to keep me warm in Montana where the temperature can be -30 is a challenge. This jacket meets that need and doesn't leave down residue all over my clothes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING AND WELL WORTH IT I have been looking for a jacket that stands out and when I see it I think, "Wow, I love those colors and the style and just have to have it!" Over the last 2 years I've been looking for something that I fall in love with I haven't had any luck so I broke down and bought a 260.00 NorthFace 2 years ago and rarely wear it, just not crazy about the colors although the NorthFace I have has tons of pockets, is a 3-in-1 and is a great coat. I tend to look at color and want something I like how it looks and stands out to be different. Finally I saw this coat. As soon as I saw this jacket online I fell in love with the colors (I loveeee blue)! I was a bit hesitant because of the price and it is just a basic winter coat for me, I do not ski or anything. I signed up to be a member with Columbia and a few days later was offered 25% off a purchase so I got it for around 337.50, which was a good bit off. I broke down and bought it for myself! I am SUPER GLAD that I did and I couldn't be happier. It is so vibrant and the colors are awesome together. It seems lightweight but I know by the material it is made with that it is going to be super warm. I just got it today so I have not gotten to wear it yet but I know it is going to do its job. Lots of inside pockets, arm sleeve pocket, nice tight zipper and I LOVE the fact that even though the hood is oversized to fit helmets, it does not flap over in my face and block my view - I have a coat now that does that and it is super annoying. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS COAT OR THESE COLORS. I am 5'3 122 lbs small build but muscular/athletic and a larger chest at 34C so I went with a medium. I could have gotten a small and it would still have been fine but the extra room will be nice if I have on heavier clothing. It is a puffer style jacket but it IS NOT OVER PUFFY, it is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Incredable jacket!!! I purchased this jacket for my annual Cities 97 wait in the target line. It really kept me warm and really repelled the rain as it was raining as I was waiting for Target to open it's doors as I proceeded to get my sampler!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SOOO warm and not too bulky. This jacket is amazing. It is puffy, but not too puffy/bulky so it doesn't make you look large. And it's not too fitted so there's room for layers (though I can't imagine anyone needing much as warm as it is). I love everything about it, and the purple/maroon color is really pretty, but not too girly. I'm VERY happy with my purchase and it is worth every penny. :)
