Women’s Hexbreaker™ Long Down Jacket is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 66.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Winter Coat for Minnesota! I first got this jacket for my sister-in-law who lives in Minnesota. The following year both her daughters wanted the same coat and proclaim it is the perfect coat for their winters there! This year I bought one for my own daughter who chose to go to college there as well to help her stay active outside:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Down Coat I received my coat and it fit perfectly. I live overseas so having an item be true to size as is critical. The coat is well made and I love the retro squares! The thermal foil inside is a plus and since I have other Columbia poducts with this lining, I was glad to find a Down coat with this insulation feature. The longer length is perfect for those cold, snowy days!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hexbreaker down coat Pros: this coat is very lightweight, & warm. Cons: zipper gets stuck constantly, feathers started to fall out the second time I wore it! Also, the velcro closures are very annoying - the get caught in everything! Good thing this item was on sale, would have returned it at full price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a Great Coat I live in the midwest, where it gets pretty darn cold. This coat will carry me through the extreme cold. It's incredibly lightweight but so warm. The mineshaft color is so pretty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compliments abound I recently bought this coat for my wife. Every time she wears it, I get a continual stream of "Thank You's" and how much she loves the coat. Its light and super warm. The varying size of the quilting pattern is great for slimming a down coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it I had a columbia coat for 5 years. Searched a long time trying to find something similar. Found it and its warm. I am in a rink on ice 5-6 days a week.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm and stylish coat Meets all my expectations. Runs true to size. Warm and stylish. Love the cuffs, lined pockets and zippers on the pockets. All in all a great coat. Deducting one star because it's a bit tricky to zipper. Keeps getting caught on the inside flap. Otherwise, keeps me warm while walking the dog when it's about 20 degrees out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely form fitting coat I bought this coat for my wife. She is thrilled with this coat. It is extremely warm, and very firm fitting and attractive. I would recommend it highly for the bitter cold.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Improvement idea for all Columbia jackets I have really enjoyed the lightweight warmth of the coat. The improvement I speak of is related to the Velcro to keep the outside of the coat closed, it rubs and catches on clothing when carrying or when putting on, snaps would be much better. Have found this to be true on the one purchase just prior for my family member. Velcro is very annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this jacket I love this jacket. It’s As I have seen it written online the inner Omi-Heat lining that is shown in the attached picture looks like a space suit. The whole jacket feels like that to me, very light for its size but is really warm and so comfortable to wear. My jacket appears to be a later version since the Omni-heat lining comes up right below the collar (I have attached a photo). The photo from Colubmia shows the metallic lining finishes some distance away from the collar. That extra bit of lining probably makes the jacket even better. I admit I enjoy putting the jacket on, zipping up, clipping the snapper on the hem closed and fastening the Velcro storm flap. You feel like you’re going to space with the length and protection this jacket offers. I bought it in a size medium and like that it still has room to manoeuvre underneath. I can wear my business suit jacket underneath or even add a thick down vest when it’s particularly cold. I'm a UK size 12 and the medium fits me perfectly. I’m 5’11” and it comes down almost to my knees. I almost always fully zip the jacket when I’m wearing it, that way I don’t need a scarf and it keeps the wind completely out. After all you’re wearing a long Winter jacket for a reason right? The thickly padded collar is super smooth on the inside; when fully zipped, it touches my neck and covers/touches my chin and that’s a wonderful feeling. Since buying it last month I have worn it a lot and have had many compliments on it. My friends can be very tactile. This jackets nylon is super smooth and I love touching it. My friends do too (even with me wearing it!) and rubbing their hands flat against the thick silver Omni-Heat “pillows” inside the jacket. During the first few days of owning it, it was like a fashion show with the large number of requests to try it on. They asked nicely and I let them, everybody loves it! The waist cinch cord is useful to add more warmth when it’s windy. When cinched, it looks more stylish and maybe even a little bit sexy. As other reviewers, have pointed out, the zipper can be difficult to get started and I occasionally do have to try 2 to 3 times but with practice I can now usually I can get it first time. With the recent cold and snowy weather, here in Europe; when I come home from work I often leave the jacket on while the house warms up. In the late evenings, I sometimes use it as a blanket or even put it on if it’s getting chilly. If I’m cold at night, I occasionally sleep in the jacket (it’s a guilty pleasure of mine). On cold weekend mornings, I often slip it on first thing after getting out of bed (if I’m not already wearing it!), it’s like taking your duvet with you. After receiving some advice I can now cinch/tighten the hood and it now stays on even in the wind. Its comfortable and keeps me warm and dry. I just wish it had the same amount of down as the rest of the jacket and had the Omni-Heat lining. I really don’t like when the wind gets up your sleeves or into your gloves but that never happens with this jacket. The elastic like material at the end of the sleeves is amazing. It completely keeps the cold and wind out of my sleeves/gloves. Add to that the Omni-heat lining of the sleeves and my ski gloves and you have one seriously warm jacket. I’m deducting a quality star since a little more feathers come out than I would like but it’s not too bad. The pockets are really warm with their soft lining and absorb your body heat from the baffles on the front of the jacket (inside and out). If you don't find this review useful, please leave a comment why and I'll try to answer it for you. Thanks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket My son got an Omni Heat technology jacket for Christmas and that made me come to Columbia to get one of my own, as I was already planning to retire my current jacket and because I was surprised how warm the shiny dots made me feel! The Hexbreaker is toasty and good looking, but, I am taking a star away because the pockets could be a bit deeper and the hood a bit larger. Also, I wish the down wouldn't poke out as much. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Coat Love the look. 2 major things I would change: better zippers. They get stuck often trying to zip up the jacket. I would also put buttons instead of velcro along the side of the main zipper because the velcro gets stuck to everything! My hat, scarf, etc. And even it just sitting or hanging the Velcro gets caught on things around it. Overall, it keeps me warm and is a good looking coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from QUESTION!?!?! Love the coat! Thin, warm, etc. HOWEVER - I cannot for the life of me understand how to use the adjustable waist! I need it to be brought in, but the way it is set up makes no sense - pull it in, but nothing secures it from going back out..... ANY TIPS???

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for a cold dry day in Portland I have a really hard time fitting into jackets but this one fits me perfectly! It was the only one in store and I love it. I tried on the voodoo long jacket and had to go up a size and it was still a little small. The only problem I have with the jacket is the down comes out of it every time I wear it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it I received my coat about three weeks ago. Prior to purchasing, I had researched many coats that were similar to this. I wanted one that would keep me warm in the Michigan winters. This coat does just that and fits great. I am 5'5 and 120ibs and ordered a medium, which fits great. I love that you can take in the middle part of the coat for a fitted look. There are a few things that could use improvements, however. I wanted a coat that had a hood, but I am not a fan of this one, I feel that it is too small. Also, I've only had the coat for three weeks, and feathers are already coming out. The coat feels very thin, so I was worried at first that it wouldn't be warm enough, but it is! I am always so cold during the winter, so I thought I'd spend a little extra money on a nice coat. This does the job and I would recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a must have Finally a coat that does the job of keep me warm and dry during those nasty winter days. This is the best investment I have made for myself. I gave away my old coat. I have an immune disorder and the cold weather makes it more painful to have a normal routine. This coat was the answer to my prayers. I live in Northern Indiana, in the bowlineline between Chicago IL and Indiana. We get the same weather and its a killer. I do not longer have to worry about staying warm and suffering throughout the winter while wearing multiple layers plus a random coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it Love this jacket. Great length, sooo warm and looks nice. It was a bit roomier than I expected, I could have gotten a medium but the large gives me enough room to put heavy clothes underneath. The only reason I kept one star out is because the outside material can be snagged or ripped pretty easy. It's a very thin poly layer but the insulation is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly warm, esp for the weight! I took this coat to Iceland and Alaska in February, and found it kept me surprisingly warm. It's not a heavy coat, and I was a little concerned that I'd be cold even though it has the Omni-heat lining. I'm quite happy with it. Also, it's white (not a great idea for me), and it needed washing quickly. Fortunately, it also washed easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just what I was looking for This coat is warm and offers full coverage, which is exactly what I was looking for. The length is flattering and his just above the knee in front. It can be dressed up or down. Very warm and cozy for my Northern Michigan winters!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super warm and functional I love this coat. It is so lightweight, yet extemely warm. I am 5'11 so I decided to get and XL for length but I have lots of room and could comfortable worn a L so I would call it true to size, also there is a waist cincher so it still looks fashionable. I love that the pockets have a warm lining. The only thing I have noticed is the down feathers tend to come out so that is why I lowered the quality rating

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tears way too easily I loved this coat. It is very warm (even more so when your skin is in contact with the Omniheat lining) and even in a blizzard you don't get wet. However, simple snow tore the coat. I slipped and fell during a blizzard and landed in a mound of snow. That was enough to tear the material. Feathers are now everywhere and I have a huge gaping tear in the sleeve. I bought it for nearly $300 so it's a bit much to just have snow rip it! I'm very unhappy about how poor the quality is!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this coat. I am 5'0' and 135 lbs and got a medium and it fits perfect. The coat is very light weight but warm. I love this coat now my daughter wants one and is using mine s a blanket sometimes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from subpar Bought this product last year and tried it in cold weather a couple of times. I thought it was great... at first. Now I live full time in Chicago and it is just not cutting it. as the temperature dropped and the wind picked up, I slowly realized this coat would not be enough. the omni heat lining only works if you're really out moving around. otherwise, the wind cuts right through it. The cinch waist does not stay cinched. All of the zipper get stuck so easily I'm constantly getting stuck in my coat. This just isn't the coat I expected it to be. Currently in the market for a better one

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and Cozy This is my third long down jacket from Columbia and it is my favorite. It is lightweight, stylish, and most of all keeps me very warm and cozy. I've worn it in the snow with temperatures in the 20's and was very pleased with how warm the jacket kept me. The combination of omni-heat and down filling makes this the ideal winter jacket.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not warm - big disappointment I was looking for a long jacket that would stand up to very cold weather, as this one was advertised. It is extremely light and thin, and is nowhere near the 600 fill down that they claim. I need a jacket that will keep me warm during Western New York winters. I tested this out in 35 degree weather with a very light wind, wearing a smartwool cami, merino turtleneck, and a cashmere sweater underneath, and despite the Omni Heat lining, the cold cut straight through. Omni Heat is not a substitute for down. It's a shame; it is flattering and the charcoal gray (not black as stated) is actually very nice. Another note: I ordered a large, even though I am a medium in any other brand. Columbia runs small! Back it goes!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great jacket - light, warm and stylish I love this jacket - it is light but warm and comfortable and elegant!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rips easily Loved this jacket so much, however within the first year of buying it, the material ripped. It is rather delicate and if you snag it on anything (getting out of a car, shoveling, snow blowing) it will rip. Will not be repurchasing because I spent so much on this jacket and warranty didn't cover the tear even within the first year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, light weight coat We bought my daughter this coat for college to be sure more of her body would be covered. Our family has several Columbia jackets and we have always been very pleased with the quality. It is very light weight and the Omni-heat technology keeps you very warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SuperFantasitcallyAwesome Coat I love this coat. It's thin and not overly bulky. You'd think, "Gee, I bet that's not very warm." You'd be wrong. It has omni-heat technology that works wonders. I live in Minnesota, which is cold...really cold (we had a high of -11 degrees without the windchill once...and I live in the southern part). The coat kept me as warm as any coat could in this climate. Seriously, love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from light weight but heavy warm i absolutely love this coat. I was a bit skeptical at first because it was so light weight but it's very very warm. Our Indiana winter this year wasn't as harsh as in the past but it did get down to 20 below for just a few days and I was toasty warm and protected from the elements. I'm 5'3" size 8, and the medium fit perfectly and I have gotten so many compliments on it. I ordered the winter white color because it was the only color left in my size. It does have some soiled spots but I'm sure they'll come out when I wash it because I've had no problem wiping most of the dirt off when it happens. It's a winner!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded expectations!! Highly recommend! Was skeptical when the coat arrived, the package was feather light. Quickly figured out this coat was the best investment I ever made! Very light weight and not too bulky. The zipper takes a little getting used to since there are two zipper pulls. These actually come in handy though, you can unzip the bottom of the coat making it easier to get in and out of vehicles. And best of all... this coat is toasty warm!! I live in the Midwest, it reached ten below zero this winter and my coat exceeded expectations and kept me warm. I definately recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm in ND This is a great winter jacket that kept me really warm in below zero weather. The great thing about it is that even though it is a winter jacket it is very light. The only think I am not in love with is the fact that the feathers are coming out already. I have had a lot of down jackets and the feathers come out but not as quick as this one.
Date published: 2015-03-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight, but warm! I purchased this jacket to keep me warm while walking my dog and it definitely does the job! The jacket is very lightweight and allows for movement, but don't think that it isn't warm because of that...it is! Here in the midwest February was a brutal month, very cold temps and even colder windchill. This jacket kept me very warm and I'm super glad I purchased it! It isn't too puffy and still has a little bit of a fitted look. I also love that the hood is removable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I imagined This coat is great! Perfect fit, right length for me and SO warm! I'm thrilled with it and so glad to have it with the start of a cold lacrosse season and football in the fall. By far the warmest coat I own and finally the right thing for watching outdoor sports.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Columbia Jacket This Hexbreaker Columbia Jacket is awesome. It is so light and warm, really amazing. I can wear a thin shirt/blouse underneath and in the coldest of weather, I am warm. Very comfortable too, and I have received many compliments on it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fits this large busted, broad shouldered woman just fine! I own other Columbia jackets in the OmniHeat collection (not down-filled; Mighty Lite hooded jacket, Mighty Lite III jacket, and Kaleidaslope II jacket) that I do really like, but they are too tight in the bust and shoulders for me. I ordered this coat on Black Friday and hoped for the best. I am 5'8" tall, 40DDD bust, size 16 pants, broad shoulders--I ordered an XL and it fits very comfortably. I can easily move around while wearing this jacket, and it is neither tight nor restrictive. Minnesota has had incredibly cold winters these past two seasons, so I needed to step my winter coat game up in order to save my sanity this year. I ride the bus and light rail to work every day, so I am outside for quite a bit both in the mornings and evenings, so staying warm is a top priority for me! I love the OmniHeat lining on my other coats, so I was pleased that this coat has it as well. I love that this coat is longer and covers my butt--I think that it helps me feel warmer. The coat zips up and down easily, and when fully zipped the collar covers up to my nose without choking me; it is a comfortable fit. The hood has small drawstring-like devices which help to cinch it closer on windy days, but they're a little fussy to use, especially when you have mittens on; adjust these with your bare hands or before you leave for outside. As others have mentioned, it's not exactly waterproof or windproof, so layer appropriately. The velcro patches over the main zipper are nice, however the corners aren't exactly stitched down, so they catch on everything; I would rather have had snap closures. And they're kind of scratchy if you catch it on your skin, etc. One nice thing missing from this coat would have been to have the comfort cuffs with thumb holes--I love that feature on the Mighty Lite coats, especially when it's REALLY cold and windy out--helps keep exposed skin to a minimum!! MY ONLY TRULY NEGATIVE COMMENT--this coat bleeds down ALL THE TIME. The feathers are small and do not have sharp "shafts" like some other down coats/vests I've had in the past, but there is always down bleeding out of the seams. At one point my mom asked if my coat had a rip in it, that's how bad it is! There's always down feathers stuck to my car seat, to my purse, on my desk at work...this quality issue is the one thing that Columbia really needs to fix. I've attached photos of the back and the left armpit to highlight this issue. Overall, I really do like this coat, but would LOVE it if the minor quality issues were fixed, and if the comfort cuffs with thumb holes were added...well, it'd be a match made in heaven :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't question this jacket- DO IT Hello from Grand Forks, North Dakota where yesterday it was a warm -14 degrees and -28 with windchill (I wouldn't know how to make these temps up if I tried). I got this coat for Christmas and I already wonder how I ever survived college in this tundra before this gift! I'm 6'1" with a slim/athletic build and this coat is long enough for my arms (Thank you for that, Columbia) as well as covers my bum. I have a regular length ski coat 700 fill North Face, and as warm as that keeps me, it's quite bulky. So naturally when I saw this coat I questioned its warming function because it's not at all bulky. I can't think of a better way to explain how warm it is than this: I actually looked forward to putting gas in my car yesterday (refer to the temp provided above) AND I realized when I was done, that I didn't question why I live in this state which such horrible temperatures. I can pretty much thank this coat and Columbia for making the winters of the coldest state in the continental US actually enjoyable for once.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not that warm, too much velcro I had high hopes that this coat would be warm enough for a Chicago winter. Sadly it is not. I'm really not impressed with the heat tech lining. In addition the front closure has a lot of velcro, which has a way of snagging sweaters and scarves and ruining them. I didn't have any trouble with the two way zipper, but the fabric around the zipper always gets caught in it when trying to close the coat. I'm glad I got a large so that I can fit additional coats underneath.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warmer than expected I purchased this coat to wear in the cold and windy Chicago winters. We've had below freezing temps and high winds, which this coat handled well. I was a little concerned about the size (I have size large hips and size medium chest), but I went with the medium. It's a little tight over the hips, but I can sit and move without issues, and there's still room to layer if needed (though I haven't needed to yet). I love the purple color, too. Overall, highly recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT WARM!!! Do NOT buy!!! I researched long, warm, down jackets for 2 weeks before asking for this for Christmas because, "when seriously cold conditions set in, this ultralight, surprisingly flattering long down jacket will keep you warm and protected. It battles arctic air." ARCTIC AIR! I was sold and the reviews were great and from people who lived in cold places so I thought this was a no-brainer. Oh! AND it has Omni-heat technology! SO WHAT!! It does NOT radiate ANY body heat! I am from very cold upstate NY so I am use to the cold. I am in NYC now and we have had unseasonably warm temps since Christmas. I wore it in 50 degrees and was slightly cold. I wore it in 46 degrees with a slight breeze and was cold. Winter and arctic wind chills have not even started and the temperature has not even gone down to the 30s and I am NOT WARM in this jacket. Even my legs, which are covered, feel the cold. For almost $300 this jacket should be amazing and it is HORRIBLE! I don't dare to say anything to my partner who could not believe she spent $300 on a jacket. DO NOT BUY THIS JACKET! It is not worth the money at all! I want to cry when I think about other jackets I could have gotten and all the money wasted. I will now have to freeze in this wanna be arctic chill jacket since you cannot return it after it is worn. How will you know how it will perform UNTIL you WEAR it?! I will NEVER buy another Columbia jacket nor recommend anyone else buying a Columbia jacket ever again. So much wasted money...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value I live at 10,000 feet in the mountains with 9-months of snow each year. I have been looking for a long winter jacket that's not a ski jacket for years. I researched this jacket and purchased it vs comparable at the local outlet because it has 1) zippered pockets 2) an internal zippered wallet pocket 3) non-fur lined, removable hood 4) longer length. I have been very pleased with it, even on a 45 minute gondola ride in 0 degree F temps. It looks classy over a pair of slacks or a skirt. It is NOT waterproof, and it is NOT windproof, so layer appropriately if you need that functionality.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not warm for the money Runs a little small and is not as warm as I would think it should be for having the down and omni heat reflective. The wind goes right through it. I would not recommend it. I have not even worn it in real cold weather yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best coat ever! I spent months trying to find the perfect long winter coat and this is by far the best coat I have found. It is SO warm and looks great. 20-30 degree weather literally doesn't phase me in this coat. It's fitted and not boxy like many others I have tried. I have gotten tons of compliments and friends have even bought it after seeing me wear it. It fits true to size - I am 5'5", 115lbs and the Small fits perfectly. There is still space for a sweatshirt or something underneath without making it look too big and unshapely. Plus, it is water resistant, unlike many others, so you don't get that musty damp smell. Absolutely perfect!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from too thin I was disappointed because it's only 600 fill. XS runs a little small to me and so I up size to S. Very large for me. I need to wear one more coat inside to feel warm. Please fix your size issue and more fill for long down jacket. Thanks. I don't recommend this for those who afraid of cold.
