Rated 5 out of 5 by Kmgmoore from Exceptional Hiking Shoe I wore these shoes right out of the box on a 8+ mile hike. The next day we did 7+ miles on another hike that was icy, snowy and very rocky. This shoe was incredible stable and supportive of my feet. I did not have any blisters or "hot spots" because they were new. They honestly fit like a glove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Marthajane from perfect for walking with my head in the clouds Love these shoes. I've worn them for years. They are light weight, flexible, non-skid. Perfect for hiking while not watching where I step because my eyes are on the trees, the sky, the birds. My only complaint is that a year or 2 ago, the shape of the toe box was changed, so now my toes don't have as much room for natural movement. one more complaint-the difficulty of completing this review is ridiculous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ccrew from Don’t hesitate to buy these! Bought these shoes for trail running in the cold northern Ohio winters. So far I’ve worn them in 30deg weather with wind chills of 21degrees, very warm shoe. My toes were warm but not sweating, toe box is roomy as well. Laces stay tied and grip very well. Sole is soft enough for running on pavement for short distances, can’t wait to try them out in the snow.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Marie98109 from Changed Shoe Design I've been wearing the Montrail Masochist for about 7 years and was so disappointed that the shoe design changed recently. The shoe is now much roomier and tongue loops are in different locations, making it harder to get a tight fit on my narrow foot (which is why I loved the old design). This may be a better move for a more general hiking population, but it won't work for me as a trail running shoe anymore.

Rated 4 out of 5 by falala1960 from best overall walking/light hiking/biking shoe **Only gave 4 stars because of size difference, otherwise would have given 5** I bought my first Mountain Masochist when they were still made by Montrail. This is the best shoe I have found in many years for the above uses. Some of the colors are also very attractive and look good with a variety of clothing--used my old pair quite a bit while touring San Francisco, they looked good with skirts even! Bought the same size and unfortunately did not realize they were smaller until I had worn them. I love the shoe so much that I am ordering another pair in a size larger and hope I can find someone to buy or give the smaller size. Please Columbia, keep the design absolutely faithful to the Montrail design, I would be willing to pay more if necessary. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OJOHN from Best trail running shoe Tie box is large to accommodate swelling from running, but sintches well at the top of foot for stability. Treads work well on rick and sand. Very comfortable! This shoe got me running again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by fortysixer from New columbia montrail shoe runs large I had worn Montrail Mountain Masochist hiking shoes for years. This would have been my fourth pair. I like them because of the roomy toe box and that I can fit an orthotic in them Unfortunately since Columbia took over the brand the shoe runs very very large in my usual size but when I ordered a half size smaller, it did not fit the orthotic. I could have worn it without the orthotic but that would have defeated the purpose. I have hiked across England in the original MOntrail hiking shoes and wish that I could Columbia would correct this sizing problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Geiko from Just what I was hoping for Ordered the same size as another Columbia pair I've had for years and these fit perfectly! Comfortable, no break-in period needed, lightweight and keeping my feet dry in the spring Portland rains. Excellent!
