Rated 1 out of 5 by Minnie from Disappointing experience: Inconsistent sizing and colors Prior to purchasing online, I visited a couple of retail stores as well as the outlet store to find the size that works for me. I understand that each style might be different, so I tried as many different pairs and styles of Columbia pants to determine my size (size 2). Issue with size: Bought 3 pairs (Size 2) online and they are widely different from each other (all 3!) even though all the labels indicate they are size 2 (see accompanying picture). Issue with color: I ordered two blacks and one flint grey. The two blacks don't even match, one them is closer to navy blue than black. I am very disappointed by the overall lack of consistency. I would have liked to recommend the products themselves, but I do not recommend people purchasing these online. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Vic01 from Great product! I’m not a frequent online shopper as I’m always skeptical of quality and sizing. I got exactly what I wanted. Very good quality and sizing as I expected. I was very pleasantly surprised. I would absolutely recommend these pants! (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by Clisby from Disappointed I ordered these hiking pants (color Fossil) and received them the night before my trip. I was very excited that the item arrived on time and fit. I was disappointed when I folded the pants up for packing that there was a blue pen mark on the front of the pants leg. Since I received the item the night before my trip, I had no option of returning them...I had to have them for my trip. I tried cleaning the area and washing the pants, but the pen mark is still there (see photo). I contacted Columbia the next day to express my frustration and disappointment, but now almost 3 weeks later, I still have not received a response.

Rated 4 out of 5 by EPV22 from Always reliable quality... But not always reliably sized. I have been a size 6L for longer than I care to admit. Because I wanted a pair i could wear over silks, I ordered an 8L. It was tighter than any of my similar size 6 Columbia convertible pants and it was short. So, excellent quality as always but, really, a little consistency in sizing goes a long way to making online shopping enjoyable and efficient. This moderates my enthusiasm for recommending it. Rated 5 out of 5 by Mandi222 from Ultra Comfy Pants Great all-around pair of pants. Perfect for hiking. Very light-weight material so I didn't get overheated. Love the option to remove the lower portion to make shorts when the temperature shoots up. Definitely recommend to anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Patty0707 from Legs ARE narrow, but a great buy After reading the other reviews on thigh width, I was nervous about these pants, but at $29.99 on sale, I had to bite. I have a 20yr old pair of REI convertible pants I wear on all my trips that are comfortable but worn out. I'm 5'7", 132 lbs with a bubble butt, but average thighs. The circumference of the pantlegs at the shorts zippers (9 inch inseam) is 19.5 inches. When I first put them on, I did feel the zippers rubbing against my thighs, but I got used to it and it wasn't bothersome. Full disclosure: I haven't done extensive hiking in them, just a safari (mostly sitting). Things I love: * the elastic inside the waistband for hidden adjustability. I wish all pants had this! (remember: bubble butt) * the L and R tags on the leg zippers, so you know how to reattach the legs to the shorts! * the vertical zippers on the leg bottoms, so you don't have to remove your shoes to take off * quality construction * fabric dries quick and washed well (no shrinkage) Quibble: * the waistband closes with 2 smallish snaps that can be difficult to snap/undo Narrow legs also means a slimmer silhouette. My REI pants have 2 big cargo pockets, while these have one on the right thigh. Maybe I won't get patted down by the TSA if I fly in them (as I ALWAYS do in my REIs). Bottom line: if you have big thighs, these are probably not for you. Otherwise, they're a great value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by blueschist from LOVE these pants. Sturdy and comfortable. I've owned a couple of pairs of these pants over the years; it would be more, except they hold up so well. They're very flattering and comfortable, and pretty much the perfect thing to pack for camping trips. Probably the best part is the number of adjustable features: waistband, cinch-able bottoms, and zippers at the leg openings. And, of course, the fact that they're convertible. I found them to run a tiny bit long, but other than that they were true-to-size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Schrodobaggins from Ran small Had to return because while I could do up the pants, they were uncomfortably tight around the waist and thighs and had no stretch. That being said the return process was smooth and straightforward! Bought a size up and they're quite comfortable. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by nushka from Good brand I've owned the same or equivalent pants from Columbia for many years. It's the same, functional design: comfortable for movement, zippers/pockets in right places, cinch at botttom and is a good looking design. The fabric is a very light, soft and flexilbe nylon and looks like ripstop, so should be strong enough for many uses, but I wouldn't wear this for bushwacking or scrambling. So it's a nice cool, light, quick drying pair of pants for the outdoors. 4 stars because the fabric is a bit too light and clingy for my liking. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by Oakbank55Plus from Sizing Too Small Purchased these pants because I didn't want anything too stretchy/clingy, but rather a sturdy pant for hiking and outdoor activities. These pants fit too snug around the waist and thigh, and the zippers by the knee area scratched the inside of my legs. Pants were also too short in the rise. Maybe a size bigger would have been better, but previous size 2 always fit before. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Suethepooh from Comfortable and functional I really love these slacks for travel, because they are comfortable and light-weight. Lots of easy access pockets to put things in, and best of all, you can zip off the bottoms and convert them into shorts when you arrive at your tropical destination!! They wash well and dry very quickly which is another bonus when travelling and they don't crease too badly either. I am very happy with my purchase, and this is the 3rd generation style of these pants that I have owned. You cannot go wrong with the Columbia brand. They are trustworthy and well-made!! Rated 3 out of 5 by FLkreeper from ok but not great I wear these as shorts to work pretty much every day. I wish that they had more stretch to them as I feel my range of motion is restricted in them. Because there is no stretch to the pants, once I start filling up my pockets the pants become even more tight and restricting. I ended up with a size 4 but probably should have went up a size. However, I felt the size up was much too baggy and didn't look very professional. I have gotten all manner of stains and gunk on them but they do always wash clean. They do rip easily unfortunately. Ripped the back pocket with my work keys and ripped the seat of the pants on some wiring.

Rated 2 out of 5 by hlw227 from runs small I ordered up because I like to be comfortable when hiking and wanted room to wear a baselayer if necessary. the waist was way too tight when I sat or moved around. I actually had to go without buttoning the snap in order to be comfortable because it cut into my waist too much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ozantm from PLEASE BRING THESE BACK The new women's convertible slacks are awful! These are great and you need to bring them back for us! The fabric doesn't snag on the trail and they have boot zippers to get the legs off without taking your boots off. My other convertibles, from the new line, look like they've been in my closet for years, instead of just two hikes. The bottoms are all snagged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Cheri49 from A good all around pant I am 5'7" and 135lbs. I ordered the size 6 and they are a little on the big side. Luckily they have an adjustable waist so that helped with the fit. I am generally pleased with these pants. They are a light weight material, perfect for spring, summer and fall. I like the longer length of the shorts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kris21 from Product has unique features Love the pants: easy to convert to shorts with ankle zippers, large side cargo pocket holds cell phone and is accessible when wearing a waist pack, and hidden adjustable elastic allows for altering waist size. The negative: wanted to adjust the waist elastic but a tag was attached through elastic. Cut off the tag, felt the waist was still too big, decided to exchange pants for a smaller size. Unfortunately, pants were not returnable after tags were removed. Not happy at this point since I couldn't try all of the features without removing the tag. Better tag placement or warning of tag removal would have been much appreciated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by joansie from Great for casual hiking Bought this item for a class that involves a small amount of hiking. Very breathable material in Texas heat, wicks away rain, has a tab in the back of pant that allows size adjustment if they fit you a little big. I haven't encountered any problems with zippers or clasp buttons. Extremely satisfied with this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JeepinGypsy from Why fix something that isn't broken? I loved these pants back when they made them with durable material and fewer obnoxious pockets. I used to be able to go into the field and then into the office and look nice. Now, the material is prone to wrinkling, material is super thin and ripable, looks horrible, and the new pocket on the leg makes it look cluttered and frumpy. Maybe Columbia could have kept the original silver ridge style and created these with a separate name, keeping both. I would purchase the latter hands down!

Rated 4 out of 5 by matteysmom from better fit than last convertible pants please have a nice adjustable waist, longer legs & drawstring ankle option not on the convertible pants I already had. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I would like it to have a large stash pocket on both legs not just one so I can put my phone in one & other items in the other without having to reach into the much smaller, hugging back pockets. nice light weight, easy zip off legs to convert to shorts & quick dry. they do run somewhat small – I am wearing a size 6 as I needed for these.

Rated 3 out of 5 by buffalobaygirl from FAULTY SNAP CLOSURE AT WAIST I love columbia gear and it is my go to product for technical outdoor wear. I love everything about these pants, from fit to material to ease of conversion. The only thing is the snaps at the waist come unsnapped. They are a correct fit and are not to small at the waist, the snaps just dont want to stay in place. I had these fail me on a 6 day backpacking trip, and had my pants falling down on the trail. very irritating. i dont know why columbia chose a snap closure over a button closure. sigh. love how these pants fit but can never buy again because they are always falling down. The snap is the only reason I give this product an average review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Chiiki from Convertible Pant This pant is perfect for travelling. It is lightweight, washes beautifully and has lots of pockets with one being just the right size to hold your passport. The pants quickly convert into shorts. This is my third pair of pants. My only problem is the length and because there is a zipper at the hem length it does it make it difficult to shorten them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by elegiacally from Sized up 2 sizes!! I do freshwater fieldwork, so the waterproofing/quick dry function is important to me. This really works very well! I am a UK10-12 for bottoms, around 101cm hips, pear shaped body. I referred to the size chart (which is pretty accurate) and purchased a Size 10R and my thighs (60cm) fit well, even when I am squatting/sitting down. The regular is slightly too long for me (163cm) but the elastic cinch allows me to keep the pant legs off the ground. My waist is pretty small (75cm) in comparison, so I ended up cinching in 4 holes on both sides of the elastic waistband in order to keep my pant legs off the ground and keep my pants up. Price: Wait for these to go on sale (very regular) -- I bought these for 25 USD with a coupon (29 on sale). With the free ground shipping and rebates from the Greater Rewards programme, these are actually cheaper to purchase from Columbia.com than any other online sites that I frequent (STP, 6pm.com). Hope this was detailed enough!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Sunbug from Not Sure of Correct Size to Order Love the fabric and function of these pants; have a similar pair from Columbia that are too small now (enjoying too much of the good life, I guess!). I ordered a size larger based on feedback from other reviewers; however, they are pretty big on me. Concerned if I return them and order the next size down that they may be tight. Not sure what I should do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tere1204 from Good material but a runs a bit long Initially, I would like to buy the Short version of this pants. I bought size 16 based on the waist line sizing indicated in the page. When I received the item, I noticed that it was a size bigger for me. the pants is very loose in the thigh and leg area. Furthermore, its runs very long for me too. I could not returned the item anymore because my sister in CA already shipped it here in the Philippines. I ended up using it as a short and removed the second half of the pants. Anyway, the material is light-weight which I love about Columbia products. Hopefully, there will be the short version; will definitely buy again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Snowgator0 from A little strange, but I like them After reading the other reviews I ordered a size up, and it was too big. Got my correct size, and it fits much better, but still weird. A little too slim in the hips, and too big in the waist. Also a little snug in the thighs. Not the best cut, that is for sure. But, in this style of pants that convert to shorts it is the best I have found so far, so I kept them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rach10 from Pre-Trip Review I just got these pants last week and they fit good. I wasn't sure about going up another size to make sure I could get base layers but I think I picked the right size because they are still slightly baggy on me. It's hard to exactly look "cute" in these but I'm assuming anyone buying them is going somewhere rugged! We are going to Peru next week and I think the variety of temperatures we will run into, these pants will be useful! Also, for sizing: I'm 5'8" and 132 pounds with curves and ordered a size 6.I normally wear a size 4 in shorts and jeans.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lostinhiking from Great fit and function, but rips easily These are great lightweight hiking pants that fit true to size, and have the ideal number of pockets. They fit closer to the body (not the baggy, cargo-pant style of hiking pants) and that was precisely what I was looking for. I actually bought them in two colors because they fit so well. The only downside is that they appear to rip quite easily. The first time I wore one of the pairs I had a minor stumble on a trail, and ripped the knee of the pants. So if you are clumsy like me - or are hoping for very sturdy hiking pants for serious adventures - you may want to consider another option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Du127 from Second pair! I purchased a pair two or three years ago and I fit a size 6. I love the pants so much that I wanted another pair in case the originals gave out on me. I purchased a size 6 again but to my surprise it was way too big. I returned them and purchased a size 2 instead after reading the sizing chart. The size 2 fit perfectly (I'm 5'8" and 120lbs). There are lots of reviews saying these pants run too small but I didn't find that to be the case however the pant legs are a little snug near the convertible zips. I recommend reading the sizing chart and you may need to size up if you have thick legs. I wear these pants hiking, biking, traveling, just about everything! A well thought out and versatile product. And one of the few convertible hiking pants that doesn't sacrifice style! I hope Columbia doesn't discontinue this style!

But suddenly I couldn't find them anywhere. so I searched on line using the numbers inside the pants. Thankfully, I found them and bought the exact same size. They seem just a little bit bigger, but there is an adjustment in the waste, so they should be fine. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these pants...they are the only hikin' pants I will buy!

Rated 2 out of 5 by CheeseheadA from Runs small I normally wear an 8, but ordered a 10 because the reviews said they run small. The 10 was tight, too tight to be comfortable. The thighs (where the leg zippers are) were very tight, because the zippers don't give at all. Then the ankles were loose and baggy. The snap didn't stay snapped, though they were too small to begin with, but it is a really loose snap. I will be returning them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GorillaMonkey from Great overall pants These pants definitely run a bit small. I can't remember the last time I didn't buy a size 6 in pants. I always wear the same size, until these pants. I needed the next size up, and even then I'd probably be more of a 9 to have theses pants fit 100% perfect (but those don't exist and the 10s were just too big). Size 8 was comfortable enough. Also, the buttons also aren't the best, pretty wimpy actually :/ Every time I sat down they'd pop open. Thankfully the zipper stays up very well otherwise my pants would have constantly been around my ankles. However, even with these minor flaws I still LOVE the pants. They're nice a cool, light weight fabric. In fact, I'd really like a shirt made of this material. I very easily removed the bottom of the pants to let my legs get a bit more air when the temperature got hot, and had no problem zipping them back on when it cooled back down. Also the adjustable elastic at the bottom of the pants was great for hiking in the woods. When I went to take my boots off and was doing my tick check, I did indeed find a little guy that couldn't make his way in thanks to the drawstring at the bottom of these pants :) Overall they're a GREAT pair of pants. I'm just going to be buying a belt or adding a button to the pants for future hiking trips :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by jerseysuek from Great pants I was going to order a size 8 and 10 as pants I don't know run different, but only a 10 was available. Even with the tabs pulled all the way in, they were too big, but they worked. 8 would of been great! Used them in Belize, jungle walks, boat rides up river and they were totally comfortable. Was like wearing linen, almost. Never felt sweaty which was my concern. Didn't have the chance to zip off to shorts as I am a magnet for biting insects even with high deet sprays. Would definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dishy from Fabulous for hiking and day wear! LOVE THESE PANTS! I'd been searching for this style since an old pair (different maker) bit the dust years ago. Attractive, sporty, lightweight, and practical. The shorts are a good length, and I truly appreciate the pockets, as well as the zippers at the ankle for easy on/off. I read all the reviews (thank you ladies!) and sussed that they run small. They do. I suggest, depending upon your build (whether you run large or small in your normal size) as well your intended use, that you size up at least 1 if not 2 full sizes. For reference, I am 5'10" 140 lbs. and normally wear a size 6 long. I ordered a size 10 Long online, and then went to a local Columbia outlet to try them in person (while waiting for the shipment to arrive). Lucky me! They had them in 6, 8, and 10 Long. So I tried them all. The 6's fit, but were super tight, like like a sausage skin. The 8s however fit nicely. Not too tight, not too loose, great for daily wear, but a little too close for deep knee-bend hiking and climbing. The 10s were pretty loose, but because of the style (they ride lower on your waist), and the adjustable elastic in the back, they actual fit wonderfully for active hiking and day wear. So what did I do? I bought three pairs at the outlet, in addition to the 1 online, so now have a total of four pairs: two 8 long and two 10 long. I've worn and washed one pair each of the 8s and 10s. I was a little disappointed the 8s seemed to shrink a little in the drier (length and waist wise) so I suggest washing and hanging to dry, especially if you are tall and don't want to risk the length. Overall, really terrific pants. I may go back and buy more!! Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by mjw26 from Terrific Convertible Pants The Silver Ridge Convertible Pants is a versatile, good quality product. In addition to the leg zippers, there is a cinch cord at the bottom of the legs - nice detail. Slightly lower rise but not too low. I typically wear a size 12, 5'6" 150 lbs., but in the Silver Ridge a size 10 was fine. Plenty of room to move during hikes and scrambles and comfortable to wear on a long flight. Very comfortable and an excellent product.
