Women’s Whirlibird™ III Interchange Jacket - Plus Size is rated out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Keally from Excellent Jacket I purchased this jacket because my family and I were headed out to the mountains. The jacket kept me warm and I didn’t get wet at all. I’m officially hooked on Columbia clothing and accessories. My whole family purchased jackets, gloves and boots for the snow. I totally recommend Columbia jackets

Rated 5 out of 5 by Freezin from whirlibird III Interchange Jacket I have always loved this brand. The jackets are well made and last for years. The jackets now are not as thick as the ones from years ago but they are still great jackets. Great colors, warm and durable. Wish this had the adjustable cord thru the middle of jacket to pull it in tighter at waist. Makes it look nicer. Wore it last weekend in teen temperatures with wind and i did stay warm. Has the new omni-tech liner not sure how well that will stand up to time, seems like it might rip easily. Time will tell. Seems like they run a bit smaller these days. The 1X fits like the XL of years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TaylorBugs from Whirlibird The versatility of this coats does not quit, both coats can be worn independently of the other one and combined for the coldest of days. The zipper goes far enough up to give your face protection from the wind and the hood is a great compliment to a stocking cap. It is soft and comfortable and well worth the money, it is a great investment that will last for many winters.

Rated 2 out of 5 by LisaJ22 from Not the quality I expected from Columbia I had my last Columbia jacket for 15+ years and it still looked like new. Unfortunately, I left it on a bus and was not able to get it back. I've had this jacket since November and already it has ripped by the pocket and the zipper has gotten hard to work. It is also not as warm in the shoulders as I would have expected of the "Omni-Heat™ thermal reflective". I really wanted to like this, as I loved my previous one and was thrilled to find another 3-in-1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RavenLover from Excellent three-way jacket for winter conditions It is so nice to find a quality activewear item for a large woman. It works perfectly for cross-country skiing; if anything, it is too warm too quickly and I have to start stripping layers! It's been very windy and cold lately (wind chills of -30 to -40) and the jacket has kept me warm - an excellent windbreaker. If I would change anything, I would want a two-way zipper rather than have a one-way zipper for the coats. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by Daisyplusthree from I wanted to love it I wanted to love this coat, but it just fit weird on me. The shoulders and sleeves fit too loose, but if I had sized down I feel like the body would have been too snug. I loved the way the inner jacket fit, but the outer coat just had a very masculine look to it and I didn’t love how it looked on me. I think it would have been a warm coat for cold winter days, but I ultimately decided to return it. A longer coat with a more feminine shape is just more my style. It was disappointing to return it, since I loved the green color and print.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DearSweetCheesus from Good for Wisconsin I live in Northern Wisconsin. I wear a size 16/18 with a 40DD bust, I bought this in a 2X. I have adequate room to wear a sweater or a sweatshirt underneath and still be comfy. I am very pleased with the numerous pockets and it’s easy enough to convert. I’m extremely warm in this coat. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by momof4inMN from Love the unique color 2X always fits everywhere but is a tiny bit snug when both arms are forward say in driving. I'm still trying to figure out the little zipper pocket down by the wrist. I have not had the liner our yet to fully check it out. Can't wait for Girl Scout cookie season to try it out for the 2 hr cookie booths.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pambidwell from I have large arms Hi all! I read every review on all the Columbia coats. Ok. First my size. I am supposed to be an "Apple shape", however apple shape people normally have small ARMS and legs. I do not. For the last three years u have been wearing a sweater with rain jacket over it. I look in stores no plus size.Grrr. I how can I try stuff on. Ok.. now the great part. I normally wear 1x in shirts. I purchased the Whirlbird lll; size 2x hoping to fit my arms. 16 1/2" around the biggest part of my arm. I love this coat more than words. It isn't tight at all. I even tried it on with my sweater and still had room. Way to hot don't try that at home. It is stylish warm, real warm, lucky the inside can come out. It is beautiful. I would buy another if I had the money. Thank You...so much Columbia. Pam Bidwell Tillamook,Or.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Adenae8201 from Watch out Jack Frost! Old Jack Frost may nip at your nose but, he won't be nipping anything else with this coat on! It is impenetrable to the most bitter cold and whipping wind!

Rated 2 out of 5 by StayPuffed from Not impressed This coat is huge and not stylish. The inner liner looks better than the outer layer but is not very warm on its own. Wearing both layers together is very bulky. I don’t recommend this coat. It is bulky, not very warm and looks like it came from 1989. I should have gotten a down coat instead of this pile of polyester.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Zina64 from I love everything about this coat except... I love everything about this coat except the lining. Against my bare skin it feels like I am wearing a raincoat. I hope that matches sense. I would rather have a soft lining. I'm hoping I can get used to the lining because I like everything else about it, but the lining really bugs me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sassymander from Awesome coat! I’m a very picky coat person! But I love this coat! I have good range of movement in my arms (this is one of my problems with winter coats) and I like that it’s not bulky like other winter coats. The Omni heat thermal reflective is great makes the coat so it doesn’t have to be bulky! Over all I love this coat! And would recommend it! A++++

Rated 5 out of 5 by ParkerRay from Wife's jacket Purchased this women's jacket for my wife. She loves the jacket. It fits almost perfectly. With the omni-heat technology incorporated into the jacket it stays true to the description and the functionality of Columbia's omni-heat. Even though winter has only recently started several days have been in the teens or lower and the jacket does an excellent job at maintaining your body temperature and keeping you warm. I wish I would've purchased the jackets sooner than I did. So impressed with Columbia that I purchased more merchandise just the other day.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mel0728 from Cute but not what I expected This coat is very snug fitting. It is cute and the pattern and color is perfect! Compliments from others on it! I wore this jacket with both parts on a day that was about 35•, sunny and windy and I was cold! The wind felt like it was going right through the sleeves even with all the zippers closed. My chest was warm though. Disappointed that it wasn’t as warm as I anticipated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ACSoltes from Women - Whirliebird lll Great jacket. I love a coat with a collar and hood! Ok so it’s really two coats, but still. Very warm, I wear the inner coat more as the weather is not quite the two coats combined. I know the outer coat will do it’s job in the coming months. In fact I really hope Columbia offers the lighter inner lining for the spring in the extended sizes. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Believer from Covers all types of weather My husband and daughter love this jacket. It is so comfortable for both of them and they are on the heavy side. My husband wasnt a believer in the omni heating until it tried it..He has had many types of high quality hunting clothes for her in Buffalo NY, and states this is even better that those bulky, heavy hunting jackets..Usually even the outside shell is just enough..but they have put the lining in and say it is so warm..I got my daughter the gloves to match also..My husband has black and daughtr has the burgundy-very nice color for a 16yr old..I think it is time for me to get one..hoping the price does come down a little.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kolie from Wonderful Winter Coat I cannot say enough good things about this coat. I have been a long-time fan of Columbia's 3-in-1 interchange style winter coat and this may be the best one yet! I am so happy that this one has the breast pocket on the outside! My last one from a couple of years ago lacked this. And ever since I bought my first coat with the OmniHeat lining, it is a new must-have for me. My Columbia boots have it as well as my 2 new pair of Columbia gloves! The water-proof material is also a favorite! This even has an extra exterior small hidden pocket under one of the forearms! This jacket is roomy enough that I can layer without being extra bulky or heavy. If I had one suggestion it would be to make the powder skirt removable. I am not a skier and would rarely need such a great accessory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by PJjacket from Perfect for my use Love this jacket and the fact that the insert jack is a separate item is anther plus. I have heavy upper arms and the 2X fits everywhere nicely but I could use another bit in the upper arms, the #X would probably work better for my arms (only). Otherwise the perfect jacket as it fits over the hips and is very warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MuskokaGirl from Love This Jacket So Far Winter has arrived in Muskoka, Ontario and so far I love this jacket. I have worn it will a short sleeve top and stayed warm. I had a Bugaboo jacket which I loved but the new technology in this jacket has now made it my favourite. I usually take an XL but I went with a larger size so I will be comfortable when wearing bulky sweaters or sweat shirts/hoodies. It allows you to adjust the bottom of the jacket so you can make it as loose or as tight as you want or need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Hrup96 from Great coat! I bought this to replace a Calvin Klein puffer coat that I've had a few years and couldn't be happier! It's perfect for everyday and flattering enough for nights out as well. I love the option to take out the inner lining (I'm a hot-body) and it's comfortable to wear even driving long distances in the car.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Vivrp from toasty warm Just received it the nick of time since winter has arrived. Fits well even over bulkier sweaters and keeps me warm. I love the color. I really like that I have the three different options on wearing it. Each piece separately or with them both together and that I can toss it in the washer if I need and not have to take it to the cleaners. My last similar style coat had snaps instead of velcro and I would prefer that, since the velcro sticks to other things that what you want it to. Maybe a little longer to cover that back side more. I plan on wearing it for a long time regardless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Spiffy4jiffy from Would buy more if I had room to store! Absolutely love this jacket! It fits perfectly to size and even has room for movement (2x). At first I was hesitant because most jackets that are plus size will be either to big or to small in the wrong areas, especially for those of us with larger chests. But boy was I thrilled when I zippered up for the first time! This jacket fit right in every little nook and cranny and provides movement in the right areas to accommodate a nice night out on the town or a trip down the mountains in the coldest of nights! If I had more closet space I'd buy one in every color! Highly recommend this jacket and it's waterproof for those chilly rainy days!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cobaltboatfan from This cost is great! I originally bought this to wear on our Alaska cruise in May 2019. l live in a place where the weather is chilly but not freezing cold so I knew it would be a good investment. I spent hours looking through the website for just the right Columbia product. It arrived this week and I have put it to the test the last 2 days as we have chilly rains all day for two days. I did buy up a size knowing I would be layering under it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Aurora6400 from New and improved but feels small Three years ago in 2015, I purchased a previous version of the women's plus size Whirlibird jacket in the Hyper Purple Plaid Print size 3X. I purchased this year's Whirlibird III jacket in the Dark Plum Crossdye size 3X. While the design of the new Whirlibird III jacket appears to address some of the issues with the model from 3 years ago, this year's model seems to run slightly smaller. I ordered the same size as my old Whirlibird jacket, and this one seems to be less roomy around my hips. If I lay the two jackets on top of one another, they look like they are about the same size, but the new version seems to be slightly more fitted through the torso and has waist/princess seams on the back. The difference in the fit around the hips appears to be because the entire jacket is 1-2 inches longer, and the zip out interchange liner seems to be about half an inch longer and slightly thicker and puffier. It would be great if Columbia would increase the sizing on their jackets, or make a size 4X since a lot of us like to wear bulky sweaters in winter. A major issue I had with the 2015 Whirlibird jacket was the material. It did not hold up to abrasions very well, and my old jacket has many places where the purple color has rubbed off and the material has a lot of snags. The Whirlibird III Dark Plum Crossdye material is less shiny and the texture feels very different, so I am hoping it will hold up better. The 2015 Whirlibird hood was detachable and held on with a zipper and velcro. I had issues with the hood constantly coming unzipped, and eventually the zipper began to tear out of the coat. This year's Whirlibird III has a permanent hood. The 2015 Whirlibird jacket zipper had a waterproof rubber coating on it and very tiny teeth, and was always hard to zip. The old Whirlibird zipper got stuck a lot and eventually starting popping apart when I moved around due to the tiny teeth wearing out. The new Whirlibird III jacket has a more standard Columbia zipper with larger teeth and an extra fabric flap and velcro to keep out the snow. I like the new zipper much better as it is similar to the zipper on other Columbia coats I have had. The front pocket on the Whirlibird III still has the rubberized zipper, but hopefully this won't be a problem since it is just on the pocket. There are also plenty of pockets throughout both the outer shell and interchange liner. The pockets on the Whirlibird III interchange liner even have zippers, which is an improvement over my old jacket. The quilting on the Whirlibird III interchange liner has a diagonal pattern that is much more flattering than the straight across quilting on my old Whirlibird jacket. It would be helpful if Columbia would provide pictures/instructions on how to use the powder skirt. Overall, this is a good jacket and I'm looking forward to wearing it when the weather gets colder.
