Men's Dr. Downpour™ Jacket is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted ! Wore Dr. Downpour Jacket for the 1st time while shoveling snow in Wisconsin . It fit great and kept me dry and warm but not too warm while removing snow . The hood tucks away into itself easily which is very convenient . Just what I wanted .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dr. Downpour Love this jacket! Lightweight, rainproof (although it hasn't rained since I've had this jacket). I like that the hood can be stored in the collar by a single middle button in back of the collar (the corner of the hood tuck into fabric collar, which keeps it neat when rolled up into the collar. I think when the collar is rolled up it makes it more a casual / stylish jacket - just my opinion. Now, for sizing. I normally wear a large jacket if it is well made and this jacket certainly is well made. I stated that the jacket ran a little large (not so much in the chest, but in the sleeve length) My chest is around 43" and I can layer under this jacket and it is still roomy enough without feeling tight. My sleeve length is 34" and I think this jacket is more around 35/36", but I really like that the cuffs are adjustable with velcro, so the sleeves do not long when I wear. Definitely a great jacket!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More Than Just a Rain Shell I was looking for a rain shell that didn't feel like I was wearing a plastic bag and the search led me to this jacket. I was between this and and another more basic model. The sale on this caught my eyes and combined with the reviews I went for it. Overall: This is a very nice jacket. The waterproofing is good. Function is decent. Color is nice and quality is typical Columbia. Its got a substantial liner inside and while not insulated in any fashion it can easily be paired with a base layer to get through some colder times. I wasn't expecting it to be as substantial as it is and it's more than just a rain jacket for sure. I wanted it for the hotter weather but time will tell how it performs when it heats up. A bit worried it will be too hot for summer but it's nice enough to keep for sure. Pros: TONS of pockets; hand pockets have zippers, chest pockets have snaps, inside pocket zips and also has 2 slide in inside pockets assuming for a phone or other device. Hood is packable which could be a pro or con depending on your view. Material is nice and it's comfortable with just a T shirt under it although haven't tested in warmer weather. Color is nice, unique but neutral enough for a lot of combos. BUTTONS on the zipper guard not velcro. Cons: No 2 way zipper makes it a little cumbersome when sitting in the car. Hand pockets are at an awkward angle, it's not intuitive for your hands to find their way in like in other jackets. Hand holes in sleeves are rather large, I needed to adjust them just about to the end of the velcro tab.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little big Purchased the large and it felt a bit roomy. Purchased the medium and it was snug over the shoulders. :^) I'm average height/weight 5'11" 185lbs. Decided to keep the large. With some layers underneath it fits well and is very breathable. It's also light enough that it's fairly packable. I've used it fly fishing and took it on a trip to Chicago. It's very functional from stream to street! Despite the slight size issue it's great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket! Ordered this for my husband. It's very well-made and looks attractive in the peatmoss color. He likes all the pockets, and it kept him dry and comfortable during a recent snowshoe outing in the rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly as I hoped it was. I bought this jacket online without knowing how it was in real life, which is always risky. It turned out to be just what I was looking for though. From reading other reviews, I bought one size smaller than I normally would. I'm a 5'11" 145lb male, and I bought a medium, and it fits perfect. I have four other Columbia jackets, and this medium is just a little bit smaller than all my other jackets, which are larges. This jacket is thick enough to be worn standalone on a somewhat chilly day, but thin enough that you don't feel bulky wearing a sweatshirt underneath it. The hood is the same size as any other regular Columbia jackets, smaller than a regular sweatshirt's hood, but not tiny. Overall, great jacket, it's definitely my favorite jacket now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good fit. Well made. Good design. I ordered the L and XL, because I'm 6'4" and often I need an XL to get the sleeve length. However, the L fits perfectly. I like the hood. It's roomy but doesn't hang over my face and block my view. It rolls nicely into the collar, which stands up to wrap around my neck. I especially like the metal zipper and button snaps up the front. It's on the lighter side, I wouldn't say it's a cold weather jacket, but roomy enough for warm clothing under. Just waiting to get it into the rain to see if it's actually WATERPROOF instead of water resistant. I just ordered another in a different color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Shell, water proof and light weight I love most everything about this coat. Pros: * Full Zip 3/4 length fit * Snap Front if you don't want to zip (no velcro flap!!) * open chest pocket to slip in my phone or items without having to unzip/unsnap * all pockets are generous in size. I think I could fit an ipad mini in any one of the pockets and still have room * Stow away hood (it's here but doesn't have to show and makes a nice warmer for the neck) * no extra strings, pully things or elastic. Hangs free for the most part. CONS: * only con is the hood. It's enormous and could really cover 2 heads. And unlike some other designs, it doesn't really have a volume adjustment at the peak. I put it over my head and it covers to below my nose. I push it back but it doesn't stay. This is awesome if I wear a baseball hat. i've gotten into the habit of tucking the front lip of the hood under (which works as long as it's not windy). * minor con: it's not a 4 season jacket, but serves well in Oregon when over 45-50 degrees.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fits way too big. I bought this jacket for two reasons: 1- it doesn't have stupid velcro down the zipper flap, 2- it's extremely highly reviewed. I don't understand all of the rave reviews, however. This jacket runs ridiculously large. I have at least a dozen Columbia jackets- all size medium- and this one fits like an extra-large. Other reviews rave about the quantity of pockets. I find that almost all of the pockets' placement and closures tend to be insufficient. For instance- I can't fit my phone with a slim, waterproof case in any of the exterior chest pockets and it barely fits in the hand pockets, which I would keep zipped in the rain anyway so they're not useful for storing something I would want to remove from the pocket while it is raining. I thought that I could get past the stowable hood, but the whole concept makes the collar bulky- with or without the hood stowed. I don't understand why this jacket is designed to be specifically and rain jacket yet the hood is packable. I don't often go out in the rain with a rain jacket without a hood. If it were easier to return it, I would have. Really not impressed with the Dr. Downpour jacket at all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from waterproof? maybe water resistant... Columbia's site says the doc downpour is a fully seam sealed waterproof jacket guaranteed. I was out yesterday in a mild rain for about 20 mins. I thought my new doc downpour would keep me bone dry, but it didn't. my arms and back got wet after about 10 mins of walking in the rain. if the jacket is not waterproof why did they tell me it was. I will give it this. it looks pretty good. the draw cords on the hood and waist are quality and look nice, it has many practical/ functional pockets that also look nice. but someone should have told me id need to use an umbrella during my walk yesterday. Omni shield must mean water repellant and not waterproof...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Men's Downpour Jacket I like this Jacket because it is longer on the sides to cover the upper part of my pants to keep it dry. The handy pockets in the interior were just what I was looking for. I am of smaller stature and the sleeves are just a tad too long but manageable. I would recommend this jacket to my friends and family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value This is a very well made jacket with lots of extra features. It makes a great light rain coat / windbreaker or outer shell for layering in the winter.
Date published: 2017-01-21
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent in spring and fall Best feature about this jacket is its breathability. It keeps the rain out while wicking moisture. The problem with rain shells is that they do not evaporate body moisture, resulting in the shell sticking to the skin and overheating at temperatures above 40 degrees F. This jacket has a liner that evaporates moisture, keeping you dry inside and out. In addition, it has a moderate layer of insulation that works well in spring and fall. The hood tucks in to the collar when not needed, creating a good-looking profile for the fit of the jacket. The one bone to pick about this jacket is the fit; it runs far larger than other Columbia items. Medium is best suited for 42-44 chest and 33-35 sleeves, while Large would better suit 45+chest and 36+ sleeves. It is definitely a roomy fit, enough to accommodate a light-mid sweater.
Date published: 2017-01-19
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket I've had this jacket for a few weeks now, so I cannot attest to its long term durability, however, it has performed admirably in the rainy conditions. It is also thicker than the average rain jacket, so it can withstand the mild mid-Atlantic winters easily. In colder areas, wearing a sweater underneath should suffice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Raincoat This raincoat is PERFECT for the Pacific Northwest! It is warm and yet breathable. It is rainproof, water repellent, and just all around perfect for our weather for 9 months a year!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best rain jacket ever This is the rain jacket you're looking for. I love the snaps on the zipper flap. Much classier than the cheaper Velcro. I only wish the Dr. Downpour came in a bright yellow color for visibility. Good job Columbia!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket for the Irish weather I just returned from two weeks in Ireland which is a place that it rains - a lot. I bought this jacket last year for my trip to Ireland in 2015 so this was the second time it made the trip with me. When you go to Ireland you always take four things - rain jacket, umbrella, waterproof boots and pants that dry quickly. This jacket is perfect for Ireland. It is well made with lots of great pockets for keys and cell phones. The jacket does have some filling so it does provide some warmth which is a plus for the Irish weather. I ordered the 2XL and it does run just a bit large but I prefer the longer sleeves. I like the fact that the hood can be tucked in out of sight. It is a good looking jacket that served me well and it will make the trip next year.

Date published: 2016-09-17
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Comfortable The main attractive feature--at least to me-- is snap buttons, rather than trying to find the end of the zipper, especially in poor light. Trying to put the jacket on is a snap (pun intended)! The fabric is also very comfortable and supple - moves with you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional Everyday Jacket This is a great all-around jacket for year-round use. It has just about everything I could need with a couple of exceptions. Both side pockets are large and useful for hand-warming and carrying things without looking bulky and are zippered. The hood stores away and is a necessity here in the Northwest where it rains frequently. And it breathes well in the humidity we experience here. Velcro cuffs for adjustment. There is a wallet-type zippered pocket on the left inside chest that is real handy for a wallet or cell phone, but just, and "if" you are right-handed... If you're a Southpaw well, good luck with it, unless you're ambidextrous. Two outside easy access flap chest pockets deep enough for sun-glasses or quick access to your cell phone. There are two inside right chest slot pockets (stacked) for I assume a cell phone and maybe a checkbook, but here is the problem... These two pockets are hard to access and barely usable because of the small sizes. I own four of these jackets in different colors, for different uses, as I am a Photographer, and I find these pockets kind of useless. I think another right-hand (inside) zippered chest pocket for a passport or lefties accessing a wallet would really be more useful. For my own selfish purposes, I would really like to see two long left and right map pockets on the inside with Velcro closures (as in military field jackets) as these are quite useful for carrying I-pads, magazines, lenses, and compact cameras (use your imagination), when the weather is bad, and an inside draw string to cinch the waist to keep out drafts. Also a double zippered front would be real useful as well (again, use your imagination). I would then have to conclude that this is the perfect multi-purpose jacket for just about any use, and be would be willing to spend the extra increase in price, if reasonable. However as it stands this is a great jacket and exceptional value for the money. Very stylish while being utilitarian, and the quality is excellent. My go-to jacket of choice. Excellent jacket for layering, and wet weather, light enough for cool Summer nights, also Spring and Fall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Bought this jacket for rainy spring, summer and fall days in Chicago. I was looking for something that's not too warm but also not something very lightweight (I hate cold weather and being cold) and this jacket delivered. I can wear this jacket with just a t-shirt underneath or with a sweatshirt and feel comfortable. It repels water like nobody's business; I used this jacket in a drizzle as well as a downpour and my upper body was 100% dry. My only negative is that the jacket could have been a little longer. Other than that, great jacket that looks great and does a perfect job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buttons After having my favorite Columbia coat collar chewed up by the attached velcro strips I immediately rushed to the Columbia Store after watching the video on their website showing that the Dr. Downpour had buttons on the lapel. After test fitting it at the store I ordered the navy version online and am now seriously considering purchasing another Dr. Downpour. Lightweight, ripstop, waterproof, and plenty of pockets, I'm loving it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted My previous Gore-Tex jacket was 12 years old and it was time for a new one. I was looking for something that worked both for outdoors and to wear to the office. This style did both. Looks good, very waterproof and functional. Enough pockets to make me happy. The jacket is true to size, but can accomodate a vest or light quilted jacket underneath. My only minor quibbles are I wish the front zipper was two-way and the hand pockets were lined.
Date published: 2016-03-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Rain Jacket Ever First, this jacket runs large. That's OK though - I do not consider it a summer time rain jacket but a fall and winter rain jacket. There is room for layers underneath. It repels water and has kept me dry and major down pours - as the name implies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Liquid Sunshine Companion This is the rain gear I have always looked for. I like all the interior pockets and in particular having a wallet zippered pocket AND two other pockets for cellphone, notebook and/or stylus and pen. All the exterior pockets serve my needs to a tee. This rain defier has clever hood adjustments with a generous face protection. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Husband's new favorite jacket! Picked this out for my husband for his occasional long commute to work (car, ferry, train) and he absolutely loves it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why did I wait so long to replace my old raincoat?!! I have had the chance to wear this jacket to a couple of cold and rainy college football games. It has very convenient pockets for all the things I carry and no, I'm not talking flask, though I could. Kept me dry and fits comfortably over my layers of warmth. I could not be happier with this purchase. Really like being able to roll the hood into the collar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performance in a casual style This jacket is awesome! It's totally waterproof and looks classy. It's a little bit longer with a great hood and lots of pockets for wallet, passport and phone. It's not too bulky to use as a travel piece and I'm comfortable on the rainy tarmac or hiking through the forest.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware! The Columbia logo on the chest is not the same color as shown in the pictures! I bought this jacket because I liked how the logo color complimented the gravel color of jacket. I was extremely disappointed that the logo was the same color as the jacket and does not stand out. It may seem like something small and petty, but the only reason I bought this jacket was because of that logo. Aesthetics mean everything! It's the little things that could have made this jacket great. Shame, guess I will be sticking with North Face.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase As someone that has a mile commute each way in Chicago, this has been a great jacket. While not ideal for colder days, this has been great so far for Spring. We have had a few steady to heavy rains and I have stayed completely dry. Even the items in the outside breast pockets stayed dry in a steady rain. Additionally, the jacket looks very sleek and professional. This was a great purchase for me and my needs.
