Rated 4 out of 5 by WNYTransplant from Nice hunting jacket Love the pockets. Like the water bottle slots. Haven’t time tested it yet since it just arrived but seems to be well made and have all the features listed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bigswede from Ptarmigan jacket At first look this jacket looks rock solid, it’s built with thick material that should handle the thickest brush and seems very functional , it fits true to size and gives great freedom of movement The front loading game bag makes it a breeze to load birds, I like the optional zip off sleeves if you would need it, this is not a jacket you would wear when it’s warm out, this one is for when the temp dips and the wind picks up! The only suggestion I would make is there are no shell loops in the pockets, which I thought was very odd!

Rated 5 out of 5 by rummikube from Quality Heavy Duty Gear Even using the sizing chart, the sizes of the product seem to run one size larger than suggested. So be sure to order one size smaller than both normal and what the fitment guide suggests. This is a very heavy weight canvas. Even with the layers of the vest and sleeves off, it will retain a lot of heat. It is well constructed and comforable. The sleeves are canvas only and do not have additional insulation, but seem extremely warm despite this. I would recommend this to any hunter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stone7 from Great upland jacket With the versatility and durability of this jacket, it is a great option from early season warm weather hunts to cold weather winter trips. The material is thick enough to be strong against spurs, burs, branches, and blood yet still comfortable and flexible. It breaks in a bit as you wear it making it even better the 3rd and 4th time out. It holds the birds securely and is easy to empty once back at the truck. Great jacket, looking to get a few as gifts. I am 6' - 220 lbs and the XL works great. Enough room to add layers underneath if needed, yet not so big that it still stays comfortable with just a light t-shirt underneath.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Jt1297 from Runs big/heavy Thought the jacket would be more true to size however it runs big. I’m 5,9 155 and thought medium would fit. It’s heavy and not as tight fitting as I would like. The sleeve openings are really big.

Rated 5 out of 5 by grousinff from Bombproof! I'm on my 3rd season with this parka, and I love it today as much as the day I got it. That's 3 seasons of hard hunting (up to 40 days per year) for Ruffed Grouse in the roughest parts that Appalachia has to offer. It sheds briars better than any garment I have owned or currently own, chaps included. It has tons of storage room which is important to me because I carry a large first aid kit for myself and my dogs, in addition to plenty of water, shells, food, etc... It is not a strap vest, so don't buy it thinking it should be as light as one. It is very warm, even without the fleece liner. I think I've only ever used the liner once, on a day well below zero with the wind chill. Usually, a light layer and a flannel shirt is all you need to be comfortable, even down into the twenties. If I was in the lake states or the northeast, I'd probably use the liner more. I do run it "sleeveless" some in the early season on warmer days. The sleeves are easy off and on, and the zippers are tough. It is also very water resistant when new, but I have given mine a good soaking with canvas waterproofing spray before my trip to Wisconsin each October and it lasts all season. Even in a steady rain for 8 hours, I stayed dry. Again, don't buy this if you're hoping for a strap vest fit, because you'll be disappointed. But, if you want what I believe is the finest parka/vest in one on the market, snatch it up! Its tough as nails and I have no doubt I've still got a lot of years of use left in it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Joe44 from Ptarmigan Jacket Great quality and durability, perfect for in the field where briars shred most clothing. Interchange system is exactly what the hunter needs to go from warm weather (just the hunting vest), to cooler weather (jacket) to cold weather (fleece vest inside jacket). Lots of storage for shotgun shells, water bottle, wallet, and small game. Small game pouch conveniently detaches for easy clean up. Just the right amount of blaze orange to ensure hunting party is visible and safe!

Rated 5 out of 5 by NorthwesternOutdoors from The Perfect Upland Jacket Ordered this jacket with a late season South Dakota pheasant hunt in mind and it not only met, but exceeded, my expectations. The jacket's tough material stands up to brush and burrs and you can swing and shoulder a shotgun comfortably. The pockets are well designed too in terms of placement and size. I can see this jacket lasting 20 years in the field and can't wait to put a few more roosters into the back pouch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Guzz from Ptarmigan Hunting Jacket I have upland hunted for years and this is a solid and versatile coat. I seems to handle the bramble very well deflecting the heavy stuff. I was hunting North Dakota in December and it is nice for those cold windy mornings. I have not tested it yet in milder climate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BigJoe from Hunting Jacket Great against the brush. Ample room to throw on some heavier clothes underneath. The only problem I had is below the zipper where the ends that were sewn together, the stitching had come apart. So I took it to a shoemaker/stitch shop that had a heavy duty stitching machine and they fixed it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by AnnieOne from size is too large I got this three-piece interchange jacket in size M. Two vests are fit. The actual jacket is way too big than I expected. Unless I could gain another 20 pounds, I guess I have to pass it on. ;( (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by PROV from Great Jacket I will not be able to use this for some months but tried it on and checked functionality. Fit great, appears quite tough. Like the zip out liner vest. Will probably not use with sleeves zipped off. Well styled and the orange is well placed on the jacket and highly visible. I do alot of grouse hunting in Northern Minnesota and this is going to really fit the bill. We have lots of dense brush but not much for briers or other sharp plants so should hold up well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tate from Perfect This is literally the best piece of hunting clothing I have owned. I wear it for grouse and pheasant, keeps you warm and dry. High collar keeps your neck warm on cold and windy days. Lots of great pockets for birds, shells and dog supplies. Loops for dog collar and whistles. You can take the vest out on warm days. Light arms allow you movement. I recommend this jacket to everyone I hunt with and make them try it on.

I went pheasant hunting today in Iowa at a huntclub with the actual temperature of 4 degrees with windchills -11 degrees and with the proper layers underneath this perfomed with great success!!!! Extremely Happy

Great jacket lots of pockets for storage you can take the liner out for warmer weather. The only negative thing that I have to say about it is I wish the had shell holders in the lower pockets. But I would Highly recommend this jacket to any small game hunter

Rated 5 out of 5 by BJJ2017 from Upland Hunting Used Ptarmigan jacket last weekend in the field. The day started out cool and progressively got warmer. It was great to be able to shed a layer. The jacket did not catch or pick when walking through brush and brier. Lots of pockets and places to store gear. Recommended. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by JTG1 from Great Hunting Jacket Got to finally use during a February upland hunt in northern Virginia. The weather started out cool but warmed up to 70 degrees. The ability to have one item that meets my needs in varying weather scenarios is the reason for my purchase and it proved its value so far. My only potential concern is that for early and late season the jacket reduced to a vest (sleeves and fleece removed) may be a bit too warm; it is a heavy garment. I broke a sweat at 70 so in warmer weather I may need a lighter vest. All that said, this is perfect if you will be hunting in temps 70 and below; it really depends on your level of activity and comfort zone. It is sturdy and well designed. My only complaint is that the sleeves are not insulated; this could be resolved by purchasing the appropriate long sleeve zip in fleece or wearing additional layers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RustyNC2017 from Upland Ptarmigan Interchange Parka This jacket is incredible. I used it for quail hunting last weekend. When it warmed up, I took the sleeves and the liner off. It made the perfect mild weather hunting vest. I like the fact that the insulation / liner is in the center of the jacket. The sleeves are free, and make it easy to move around. I'm very happy with this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by scout2016 from Excellent Upland Jacket The Ptarmagin upland series jacket is an excellent jacket for both the early season and late season here in Wisconsin. The jacket itself has a zip out fleece vest with a nice fleec collar for comfort on cold days. The cuffs allow the user to velcro them closed to your comfort or liking. The jacket runs large which is good and allows me to adjust the layering of my clothes underneath. The game pouch is nicely sized and lined to keep dirt, blood, birds contained. Plenty of room for a dozen pheasant. pockets on the jacket front are large enough to hold a box of 12 gauge shells and then some. Other pockets allow for easy stowage of a dog collar controller without being bulky. The jacket allows for easy and clean mounts of your firearm with no annoying bunching of the sleeves and sleeve to chest area. It also moves with you and does not hang up when crouching or contorting through heavy brush. The blaze orange is very visible from long distances to help keep you safe when hunting near others. For warmer days the fleece vest works nicely keeping you warm but never too hot. It holds up well to briars and heavy brush if you are a pheasant or grouse hunter. The coat is probably one of the best made over other higher catalog brands out there at a reasonable price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by jdluther from Love the jacket but...... This jacket is great. There are two front pouches and then two real pockets above that. The pockets sit high and are very comfortable when walking the field. There is a place for your collar remote and a little clip for a lanyard. There is a fleece interior vest that is removable and the sleeves zip off which I thought was genius. The game pouch is very accessible from the front and the back zips all the way open for easy cleaning. The stitching for the right front pouch became undone on the first use leaving a big hole in the pocket. I like the jacket well enough to give it another shot though. I'll return and get the same product and hopefully will revisit this review to update my overall rating. I have a closet full of Columbia with no issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by QuailProfessor from Great Jacket. Runs Big This is a great 3 in 1 jacket. Very durable and functional. The only problem is that I'm 6' 2", 200 lbs and the Large is a little large for me. It's a little wide on the shoulders and a little long. I like the length in the back (covers the butt) but in the front, you end up "kicking" the shells in the box of the front pocket when you walk. I wish the pockets had a flip out elastic shell holder so I would not have to have a loud box kicking around. I can't return it for a medium because I already embroidered a logo onto the jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by QueBall from Ptarmigan Review From the time I purchased this coat until the current day, I am still pleased with it. I've been out pheasant hunting on numerous occasions and the coat has held up. It's got ample storage in the game pouches, and the quality of the materials is very good. There are some things I would add to this coat to really set it over the top. In older versions of the Ptarmigan, the pockets had elastic shell holders sewn into the coat, this newer version doesn't have it so it makes retreiving shells to reload the magazine with a little more tricky. Also, for cold weather, there's only a vest under the outer layer of the coat. I have an interchange Columbia for my winter coat, and I use my liner for both my ptarmigan and my winter coat, but it'd be nice if Columbia sold a blaze orange, long-sleeved, fleece liner to go along with this spectacular coat for when the temperatures really bottom out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Devsaintclair from quail slaying jacket Although the original price is way overpriced, once it went on sale it was a great deal. very happy with the jacket. it is extremely durable against mesquite, cactus, etc. in west Texas country. It is very warm, but, if you get too hot you can strip away the inner liner or even make it into a vest. Very happy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Drhtwo from Ptarmigan jacket. Nice jacket with a lot of features HOWEVER, it is too heavy. I would not want to be wearing this while pheasant or quail hunting. It would be too heavy and hot while walking thru thick grass or cornfields. I enjoy Columbia products but I think they have this one wrong. I believe this jacket alone weighs more than my widgeon parka, down liner and bibs. A lightweight version would be much more practical for my use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Swampy16 from Not for the guy that hunts in briars or brush My first impression of this jacket was pure excitement. I thought I'd finally found the ultimate upland jacket. I hunt rabbits in very thick briars and after the 3rd day all the stitching on the front of the jacket was shredded. I think the stitching used in bandanas is tougher that what was used in this jacket. I have several garments from Columbia and have always been pleased, but I think the field testers for this one simple took a walk down some nature trail and said this is good to go. I doubt any real upland hunter tested this thing. Then to top it all off Columbia issued me a credit. What will I do with a credit? I need a hunting jacket and Columbia only has one and well I guess that's out. And I'm out $226 unless I decide to take up skiing.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by Spartan2011 from Great for Field Hunting I wore this jacket pheasant hunting it worked great. Kept me warm and mobile on a cold and windy day. Also, it has plenty of storage for game that you bag throughout the day. My brother has the same jacket and loves it as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by det1jng from Time Tested I purchased my first Columbia hunting Jacket in the mid 90's and it has served me flawlessly. It gave me great pleasure to purchase another jacket some 20 years later for my son. The jacket is of the same quality and hope he enjoys it as much I appreciated mine. Jackets do fit big and you can where heavy close underneath for those colder days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WashingtonLakes from Perfect for hunting! I have the Columbia coat that is similar to this one for fishing. I got this one as my pheasant and duck hunting coat. It has the same attention to details and great fit that my other coat has. The coat is nice and warm and comfortable. I like all the extra little details like zipped pockets and velcro sleeves. Being able to break it down to a vest coat is like having two coats in one. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by TimmyC from Upland Game Jacket The jacket is very well made. It is good for colder hunts. Started out hunting the jacket and fleece vest. By the end of the hunt I was wearing the game vest only. The jacket does run slightly large. I am 6'3" 230 lbs. and this fit perfect. An XL would have fit fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KGinSWCO from Very Nice Upland Game Hunting Coat I was impressed with quality, appearance, and versatility. It looks like it should last many hunting seasons. Rated 5 out of 5 by Lipps from Great choice! I love this parka...I only wish I could keep it! I tried really hard to find a reason to have two jackets seeing as I had a reasonably good one but I couldn't comfortably justify keeping it. Much dismayed, I returned it. It did fit extremely well! I am about 5'5.5 and weigh about 125lbs so the small was perfect and I have wider shoulders for my size. I really wish I could have kept it but just couldn't justify the expense seeing as I really needed pants more than the jacket. I just know down the road I will be kicking myself for not keeping it, so Columbia, please keep this one, especially with a small option for us ladies!!! I will buy it when my current jacket is no longer viable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Troutbum22 from Fabulous! This is the best upland hunting coat on the market, hands down. Another review said that it was very large for the size. I didn't notice that. What I did notice was that it was cut generously in the sleeves and the length. I like that. Freedom of motion is a must when swinging to a quick flushing bird, I feel the cut is perfect for that. Tough, durable fabric will take a beating and keep those briars and other nasties away from your skin. Sleeves come off, fleece comes out, this jacket is all you need for the entire season. Here in WI, grouse season runs the gamut of conditions, mid 80s early in the season to below zero when the season closes. The real deal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Barnyard from Ptarmigan Interchange Parka Hands down the greatest Upland Jacket I've ever owned! I searched and searched for the past year for last seasons parka but everyone was sold out.. I now understand why! It's the most comfortable jacket with every option possible. It's the Cadillac of Upland Jakcets. Worth every penny. I would recommend this to anyone. Understand that these Jackets run extremely LARGE, more so around the waste & length! Both myself and my buddy wear XL jackets in browning, beretta, orvis, & so on. The XL swallowed us up, with no exaggeration. My brother is 6'6" 280, and it was still a little big on him. I exchanged it for a Large ( height: 6'1") and I'm beyond satisfied and hope that Columbia continues to release new models of the PARKA. Thank you for an amazing product!!
