Not Cliff Lakes, but not bad I bought these because Cliff Lakes (II) are no longer made.These are marketed as fishing shorts and Columbia does not, IMHO, currently offer a good pair of working/every day cargo shorts, which is what I need and want.Surprisingly, I like these shorts. The XXL fits my 44 plus a little bit waist just right (no expansion of the elastic waist). The zipper length is longer and better than the Cliff Lakes. The material is a bit lighter. The inseam length is perfect for me, right at the top of the knee (I'm 5'11")I'd like to see a D ring on both sides and and an inch deeper cargo pockets with single velcro closures in the middle of the flaps. Brewha Shorts Bought the shorts to replace two pairs of Columbia shorts like it I have had for years. These are a little different (fabric is lighter weight, fewer pockets) but the fit is great and I am very happy I found them. May 18, 2013

Brewha Shorts I am a boat captain and have always purchased the same style 8" inseam Columbia shorts at West Marine. They no longer carry them, nor does Columbia, so these were a substitute. I am very pleased, and will buy more. What I thought was an odd place for a pocket ends up perfect for a wallet, where you do not sit on it.Only wish they had khaki colors, like "flax" or "fossil". "Stone" is too white, and "sage" to dark and greenish. April 20, 2013

Favorite Short with some suggestions for improvement Over the years, I have had several pairs of this short and the previous model which was similar in construction but had DEEPER front pockets and a better khaki color. The deeper pockets helped to protect my wallet in Mexico. I also wear these shorts when I play golf. I do love the zipper in the back pocket in the current model. I like the elastic waist for those of us who put on a couple during vacations !These shorts are worth the price when I go to Mexico for a couple of winter months as well as summer months in Mn.I had one pair's zipper fail after some use BUT Columbia sent me a replacement after I sent them back for quality review.I am very impressed by Columbia's customer service and they have my business. I only wish that they would do two changes.Deeper front pockets (to deter pick pockets) and a truer khaki color. The stone is too light and the sage too green for my taste. October 22, 2012

Seriously awesome hiking shorts I'd forgotten how much a good pair of hiking shorts really does help on a long haul... it got convenient to wear the normal guy's cargo shorts and let's face it... short shorts aren't exactly the height of fashion at the moment. But these are awesome. They're cut shorter on the leg like a real hiking short is meant to be... this gives great leg articulation, super freedom of movement and no binding even when hot and sweaty on a long trail. The material stays dry well, sheds water and dries quickly when wet. So far it hasn't shrunk nor discolored either. I'm super happy and buying more colors so I have plenty for my frequent backcountry adventures. :)The only thing I don't particularly like are the front slash pockets. They just don't seem to help with anything... they're at an awkward position, and since they're short-length shorts, it's like having a stacked pocket... you get 2 pockets, essentially, that are overlayed with gear. I'd rather the extra pockets be more on the side. LOVE the back zip pocket though, so glad I don't have to worry about a wallet falling out, thanks to the zipper :) September 4, 2012

I returned it I own a lot of your products. A few very nice jackets, and a few shorts. I haven't bought any in some time. i purchased a pair of these about 10 years ago from a local sporting goods shop at a local marina. I wore them A LOT!I just bought this pair in the exact size as the pair I've been wearing for years. One complaint; heaps of praise This review isn't about my recent purchases--they're fine.One complaint, though, and this probably applies to all makers of men's pants (and women's too): Too often, there are no left back pockets. Probably this criticism applies to front pockets too, in terms of the additional little pockets as for cell phones and such. I'm left-handed, and I put my wallet in my left back pocket. I bought a couple of shorts from REI without checking to see if they had left back pockets. They didn't, so I returned them. REI didn't carry any Columbia shorts with left rear pockets, which led me to your website, where I purchased two with left pockets--the two which led me to this review page. I know it adds cost to include a left rear pocket, but there are a few of us lefthanders out here who appreciate those pockets on the left, one in the rear, extra in the front.That's the complaint.The praise: I bought three pairs of Columbia shorts (with left rear pockets)--actually, they long are pants with zippers in the middle of the pant leg [and why didn't I look for those when I was at REI, yikes!](Don't you love this sentence construction?)--making it easy to turn them into shorts. Getting to the praise now: These three pairs of pants, in spite of my wearing them constantly for the past five or six maybe seven years except in the deepest of winters (I'm in California), show zero signs of wear! This is as shocking as it is laudable. So thanks! They're amazing! I love them and will continue to look for Columbia clothing products--once my current ones wear out. Why did I buy new shorts? Comfort, great pockets, wonderful summer shorts. If you are a person on the go, who needs pockets & comfort is important to you, I would highly advise getting a few pairs of these. I am planning to buy a second pair soon. The side rite pocket is perfect for your cell. The huge front deep pockets are great for anything large. The two front velcro pockets are good for your wallet & keys. However you like it, the shorts are flexible to your needs. The fabric is tough and very comfortable too. Enjoy. Thanks July 9, 2012

Brewha Shorts I've been wearing Columbia shorts for many years. I fish in Baja 12 to 14 weeks a year and wear them everyday, yes I do wash them. I started wearing the heavy material cargo pants and really enjoyed them but then they seemed to disappear from the racks. Just this season, I purchased a few pairs of Brewha style shorts. When I first received them, I wasn't really happy with the thinner fabric but as I wore them, I really like the feel and the fit of the Brewha shorts. The lighter fabric seems a lot more comfortable in the hot Baja sun and dries a lot faster.I'm definitely going to purchase more Brewha shorts in the future. Very comfortable I have been a fan of Columbia cargo shorts for years, but I do not like the small right side back pocket. I carry my wallet there and much prefere the larger velcro fastened pocket on previous models. I have a tri fold wallet that is very difficult to remove when I get it in this pocket. July 2, 2012

Not like the old ones I lost a lot of weight and was excited to get several new pair of my favorite shorts to replace the two I have which, due to exceptional quality, still are in fine condition. The two pair of these shorts I have I liked better than the current edition. The new one lacks a right hip pocket which is where I carry my wallet. The new edition has eliminated the inside phone pocket. I miss that. The material just doesn't seem to be as nice as the ones I have. The zipper added to the left back pocket is a nice touch though, and I would have appreciated that on my current shorts. At least I have my old faithful shorts even though they are slightly too big. How to measure
- Neck: Measure at the base or thickest part of your neck.
- Chest/Bust: Measure at the fullest part of the chest, under the armpits and over the shoulder blades, keeping the tape measure firm and level.
- Waist: Measure around natural waistline, allowing tape measure to sit comfortably.
- Sleeves: Start at the center back of your neck and measure across the shoulder to the elbow and down to the the wrist. Round up to the next even number.
- Inseam: Measure from the top of the interior leg to the bottom of the ankle.
