Great pants I was going to order a size 8 and 10 as pants I don't know run different, but only a 10 was available. Even with the tabs pulled all the way in, they were too big, but they worked. 8 would of been great! Used them in Belize, jungle walks, boat rides up river and they were totally comfortable. Was like wearing linen, almost. Never felt sweaty which was my concern. Didn't have the chance to zip off to shorts as I am a magnet for biting insects even with high deet sprays. Would definitely recommend. February 24, 2014
Fabulous for hiking and day wear! LOVE THESE PANTS! I'd been searching for this style since an old pair (different maker) bit the dust years ago. Attractive, sporty, lightweight, and practical. The shorts are a good length, and I truly appreciate the pockets, as well as the zippers at the ankle for easy on/off. I read all the reviews (thank you ladies!) and sussed that they run small. They do. I suggest, depending upon your build (whether you run large or small in your normal size) as well your intended use, that you size up at least 1 if not 2 full sizes. For reference, I am 5'10" 140 lbs. and normally wear a size 6 long. I ordered a size 10 Long online, and then went to a local Columbia outlet to try them in person (while waiting for the shipment to arrive). Lucky me! They had them in 6, 8, and 10 Long. So I tried them all. The 6's fit, but were super tight, like like a sausage skin. The 8s however fit nicely. Not too tight, not too loose, great for daily wear, but a little too close for deep knee-bend hiking and climbing. The 10s were pretty loose, but because of the style (they ride lower on your waist), and the adjustable elastic in the back, they actual fit wonderfully for active hiking and day wear. So what did I do? I bought three pairs at the outlet, in addition to the 1 online, so now have a total of four pairs: two 8 long and two 10 long. I've worn and washed one pair each of the 8s and 10s. I was a little disappointed the 8s seemed to shrink a little in the drier (length and waist wise) so I suggest washing and hanging to dry, especially if you are tall and don't want to risk the length. Overall, really terrific pants. I may go back and buy more!! Highly recommended! February 14, 2014
Terrific Convertible Pants The Silver Ridge Convertible Pants is a versatile, good quality product. In addition to the leg zippers, there is a cinch cord at the bottom of the legs - nice detail. Slightly lower rise but not too low. I typically wear a size 12, 5'6" 150 lbs., but in the Silver Ridge a size 10 was fine. Plenty of room to move during hikes and scrambles and comfortable to wear on a long flight. Very comfortable and an excellent product. February 11, 2014
Superior hiking pants I've had trouble finding hiking pants that have zippers at the cuffs. These do, so you do not have to take off your hiking boots to remove the lower section of the trousers. Pockets are good and plentiful. The pants are also comfortable to wear. February 8, 2014
Womens outdoor pants These pants are lightweight but very strong and functional for all seasons activities. Use with layers for winter activities but very lightweight for all four seasons. The material is very flexible and moves with you through any activity. February 7, 2014
Great Convertible Pant I really like these pants. I wear them camping and hiking. It is usually cool in the am and I like to wear the pants, then zip off the pants legs as the weather warms up. The zippers are great, since you don't have to take your shoes off. I read all the reviews about the sizing and leg fit, so I ordered a size larger. I usually wear a size 4, but my thighs are a bit muscular, so I ordered a 6. They fit pretty well. The legs are just big enough. I don't have a lot of extra room, but enough. The quality is excellent. Love the pockets and zippers. The gray color is nice. I will likely get another color. February 6, 2014
Great pants! Read the reviews and bought size 14 instead of my usual 12, very happy with the fit! February 6, 2014
Lightweight and protective I live in worm to hot Southern California and I love the light weight and the fit of these pants They are flattering and versatile with the convertible to shorts feature. They stay cool in the heat but still protect from scratches but I love the fit the best. Columbia silver ridge are the only hiking pants that fit me, and they come in LONG. February 3, 2014
True to size convertible pants Needed convertible pants for African safari in Botswana during the warm and rainy season. Light-weight and well-made. Only advice I have would be to order your true size since I ordered one size larger based on existing reviews and found the extra girth unnecessary. I'm 5'3 and 120lb. February 2, 2014
loved this pant I usually wear at other stores a 4 to a 6. I purchased an 8 and it was very comfortable a little big but the 6 was tight enough to not be comfortable, but fit:) Loved these pants great for a cruise! They packed well and were light weight but sturdy. The also have a tightening elastic so you can make the waist fit just right. Very flattering fit!:) February 2, 2014
Love these! Although these pants run a little small, they are great. Love the fabric and how they look. Just can't gain any weight. February 2, 2014
Perfect Fit! These pants are great, very functional and fit true to size. I am 5'6" 128lbs, I usually wear a 6 or 8 pant, I got these in the 8 and they fit just fine. I used the adjustable elastic in the back of the waistband to make them one notch smaller and they are perfect. These pants fit comfortably yet snug enough to look stylish! February 1, 2014
This is a quality product Great versatility. Cool and comfortable for most activities. The size I selected ran a little big for me but I found the inside waist band could be adjusted. Love the draw strings on the ankles. Nice fit January 30, 2014
Smart design but poor fit and sizing The idea of these pants is smart - pants that turn into shorts and seem to look like nice pants that could be worn walking or around town to run errands. I knew the sizing was a little off based on other reviews so as a person between size 6 and 8 I chose the 8. I received the pants but they were tight! I would at least need to go up a size. They also made a very distinct swishing noise which was annoying. I decided to forego the exchange and went with a pair of the Just Right Bootcut pants which I am very happy with. January 29, 2014
Great fit! Based on user comments, I ordered the next size larger than I normally wear, and the pants fit just fine. The cut is very slenderizing and the fabric is very nice. January 28, 2014
wow these Women’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pant run small! Much smaller than my other Columbia pants!!! The zipper fit my thigh fine but the waste and hips are very straight! No curve or give in the hip...even in the size 12. I haven't returned them yet but I won't buy these again because of the uncomfortable fit and unusually straight hip. It would be impossible to hike or rock climb in these. I will stick with my old Columbia pants. The zipper and material are excellent. January 27, 2014
Just what I expected I needed a pair of black travel pants for a trip to Patagonia. I am in my sixties, 5'6", 150 lbs. These fit perfectly, are of good quality fabric and construction, and they were on sale. They arrived just a few days after I ordered them, despite extreme cold in Chicago. I am very pleased with this purchase. January 27, 2014
connvertible pant These run a bit smaller then said size. I can get them on and can see a larger size would be a nice fit. A little disappointed to have to send them back for a bigger size when this is already claiming to be the size it says. Otherwise they would be great. I'd recommend them but definitely order one size bigger then you wear. January 26, 2014
nice hiking pants! These pants were fairly large. I got a size 4 long, which normally I wear a size 3. Thanks to the elastic band I was able to adjust them. But, it bundles on the back because I had to pull the band so much but they are very nice pants and definitely worth keeping. I would buy a size 2 long next time. I love the length. January 24, 2014
Really liked the pants The pants are very comfortable and true to size. Great price for its value January 20, 2014
Comfortable but don't hold up Loved the fit and comfort of these pants, I am 5' 11" with 36" inseam and bought a pair of 14 Long. Wore these three times with no problems, washed and hung to dry. Noticed pilling in between the legs and three snags on the front of the pants from normal wear. Did not take hiking or camping. Returned the pants and got the Saturday Trail Pants instead. January 19, 2014
My first pair was a hand me down - now I'm sold My first pair was a hand me down from my sister. They were outstanding. They wicked moisture away even when I was hot and sweaty. And they were amazingly light but protective. It takes a lot to put a nick in them. I loaned them to my daughter--she has no intentions of giving them back cause she loves them.So I bought this pair. The fit is a tiny bit small, but I am losing weight and eventually I am sure I will appreciate the adjustable elastic in the back. Looking forward to my next southwest vacation with them. January 14, 2014
Fine Camping Pants Wonderfully light and sweat proof. I love the convertible option. It is also shazzy enough to dress up casual or down for hiking. Great investment. Only qualm, it sags a little in the seat. January 12, 2014
Great pants for travel I ordered these pants for my upcoming trip overseas. I have a problem with pants being too long so I was worried that this would be one of them. But it wasn't!! Still a little loose size wise but not a problem. Great pair to have! January 12, 2014
Just bought a second pair I need convertible pants for our trip to Machu Picchu and the Gallapagos. We'll have very cold and very warm temperatures and lots of humidity. I don't think I could ask for more. The pants are nylon so they'll dry quickly but they aren't as thin/flimsy as others that I've seen. I have 40" hips and got a size 10. They fit comfortably through the hips and are a little large around the waist, but I have that problem with almost every pair of pants I've ever owned. There is an elastic tab inside the pants that allows you to adjust the waist and it works nicely. Some people have said these run a little large. I disagree. I wouldn't want a snugger fit for hiking. And there is room for long johns when needed! Also, these are very well constructed. Seams lie flat, zippers don't scratch. The pants do run a little long. The inseam on these regular pants is 32". Nice fashion fit, but bunches a bit over boots. Love the zippers at the hem - don't have to take off shoes to convert to pants. January 11, 2014
Adventure Pants I bought these pants for a trip to Ecuador, because I needed quick dry hiking pants. I 5'5" with short athletic legs, so the short inseam option was perfect in a size 14. They are comfortable and have plenty of room to move, with the zip off legs being a great option if I get too warm. When ordering pants online, I worry that they won't fit my thick thighs, but these pants are plenty comfortable. The material is also very lightweight. The only issue I had was the zipper got stuck a bit when wearing them today, but I would buy them again for more adventures! January 10, 2014
Sizing The size in pants is one thing that throws me off a lot. I have order (2R) and my actual waist size was 27 but a feeling it wasn't going to fit, but yet still i have order it. I got the size (2R) and it fit perfectly on the waist but really thighs around the legs. Am a soccer player/Swimmer so my tights as big, plus in the winter time i normally have a second layer under my pants and with the (2R) the second layer wasn't fitting. (TOO TIGHT)So i've exchange the order for (4R) and the waist fit a little loose but still perfect and it fit perfectly around the thighs. January 2, 2014
Solid choice for hiking/travel pants I've been happy with Columbia products in the past, so chose to pay full price for these pants for a trip to SE Asia when I'll be doing much hiking but also everyday market travel. The pants are made of good quality material and have good features. They are snug--I recommend ordering a size up. It is also a surprise to me that on the size chart Columbia has listed there is so little difference between the waist and hip widths. True women's pants need to account for a real woman's hips and curves. These are snug around the hips and loose around the waist, as with most hiking/travel pants that have been designed by men for men and not fully adapted to women. Still, I remain impressed by the quality of the product and I'm sure I will use them extensively. December 29, 2013
Love These Pants I own multiple pairs of Silver Ridge convertible pants as well as some Silver Ridge shorts and non-convertible pants. I absolutely love them. They fit really well and look good on me. With the zippers on the bottom of the legs, I can even convert them over my boots. They dry very quickly. The placement of the front leg pocket is very convenient. I am 5'2", 120-125 lbs and wear a 4 short. The pants I have ordered from the website fit perfectly. The ones I have purchased at the outlets have had different fits including being shorter than they are supposed to be and running very small. Make sure to try them on if you are in the store. December 28, 2013
Great pant Just what I was looking for-a breathable, comfortable hiking pant. The only thing that would make them better is the addition of a little bit of stretch. The area of the zipper to convert to shorts is a little tight when sitting cross-legged too, but that is to be expected. I'm 5'11.5'' and the longs are the perfect length. December 17, 2013
Fit is good It is not what I was looking for. It fits fine but pockets are small and there is not front pocket with a zipper. Only the back pockets are zippered. I hike and travel and like to keep my wallet in my pocket. I need a pocket in front that I can keep track of that has a zipper. Velcro isn't secure enough. I do like the short length. November 11, 2013
Love these! Great pants, nice fit, comfortable and light weight, would definitely order another pair. November 10, 2013
Perfect hiking trouser These arrived the night before a week's holiday of hiking in Arizona. They were ideal for all weather conditions and held up well against grabby cacti! October 12, 2013
Multiuse I love this pant, the pockets are very useful. I bought a black one because it was the only color available in short. I would buy other colors as soon as they become avialable in short. September 30, 2013
Great hiking pants I wore these pants on a four day 40 mile hike. They held up beautifully. Best of all, when I was rafting and got splashed, they dried quickly. They can be washed in the afternoon and ready to wear the next morning. September 27, 2013
great product definately get the next size up. I thought I could get my normal size despite what I read in the reviews. lesson learned...very comfy September 26, 2013
Comfortable, functional pants I got these pants and immediately took them hiking up in the Sierra mountains. They "converted" to shorts really easily. The adjustable waist was unexpected and awesome. I have muscular legs and often need a size larger then I'd wear in the waist, so I was thrilled to be able to easily tighten up. Also, there is hidden elastic at bottom of pant to cinch if necessary to help with length. The pockets were perfect, held my necessities, and the fabric kept me cool. I will try the stretch version next. September 17, 2013
Great Fitting Pants I don't usually order pants because I am small in the waist compared to my hips and thighs. These pants have an elastic band that you can adjust making it possible to have pants that fit in the waist and the hips. Sometimes I need a size 14 to get a fit through the hip and thighs but these size 12 pants are perfect for me. You will definitely not need to order a size up. The light weight fabric will be perfect for summer hiking but does let them tend to wrinkle. I have not worn them yet but am looking forward to giving them a workout in Ireland in a couple of weeks. July 21, 2013
Universal pants In the outdoors or pavement jungles these pants offer sun protection, breathability and good construction. July 7, 2013
Extactly what I was looking for! Everything about this pant is great. The color the length (I'm 5'4") and the shorts. They are a great length when the bottom section is zipped off. Not too short and not too long. I got these for a 10 day canoe trip my husband and I are going on. They will be just the ticket! July 4, 2013
nice pants I have 2 pairs of these pants. One from the outlet store (because they were flawed - back pockets sewn oddly) and the second from the website. The second pair runs true to size! (The flawed pair ran very small). I would recommend that you order your true size. Columbia must have adjusted the sizing. I hike in these and they are great for summer hiking. I plan on taking them on a a 2 week hiking trip and know they will work great. June 26, 2013
favorite pants These are my favorite pants. I have the old silver ridge pants as well but these are better. The fabric is more breathable and stretchy. I use them year round, but we have pretty mild winters here. In the summer they are great for sun protection, they wick sweat, and dry quickly. Great for any outdoorsy woman or fisherwoman looking to keep the UV rays at bay and stay comfortable (keep in mind I would rather sweat a little from wearing pants than get sun damage) June 25, 2013
Love these pants I read previous reviews before ordering that said these pants ran really small and to order a larger size. I normally wear a 2 to 4 and ordered a 6. Way too big. Ordered a size 4 and still big but I was able to take them up with the elastic adjuster inside the waist band. I should have just ordered the 2 and they would have been perfect. I love the quality and fit of these convertible pants. They are great for camping on the coast where it can get cool. I am petite and loved the fact that I could order them in short length. June 8, 2013
pants great fit, would definitely buy again June 7, 2013
pants Bought pants for an upcoming European trip. Really going to help with packing space. Fit great. Ordered on line in-store, a breeze. May 28, 2013
I like, but... I like these pants, but...This seems to be the theme here. I don't think the pants run very small, except for the leg zipper. I'm 5'5", 135, and I got a size 8. They're comfortable walking and hiking, but not sitting because the zippers are too tight.Anyway,I like the super soft fabric, BUT... it pills really bad. I wore these pants on a 3 day backpacking trip, and they look awful. I wouldn't wear them to town now. The back waistband area looks like I've had these pants for 5 years.I like the way they fit when I'm walking, BUT... the zipper around the leg is way too small so they are uncomfortable to sit in.I like the style of the shorts once you zip off the legs, BUT it would be better if they were 3 inches shorter. Stuff in the side leg pocket moves awkwardly. They'd be so perfect if the leg zipper had an extra inch and if the fabric was more sturdy. Wear these for around town and day hikes with light/no pack. They won't hold up for more serious endeavors. May 26, 2013
Convertible pant Very happy with my order. Of Course I already knew the quality of the products. Columbia is excellentIt is the third pants I buy, always satisfied.regards May 26, 2013
great convertable pants been looking for a comfortable pair of convertable pants but the stores never carry it in the larger sizes(xl) so I decided to take a chance and ordered online and received item they are a perfect fit. I would definetly order again theya are so comfy! easy to pack and look great on May 5, 2013
Comfortable, Cool, and Great Quality I am so excited that I found a pair of pants that will work for me in the Spring and Summer in Sisters, OR. What I really liked was that even though it was windy near the lake, my legs were still protected. Also, I read a previous review to use the measurement tables to identify which size to buy, and I am glad I did. Normally I wear a four size, but I decided to go up just to be safe. The inside of the waistband, in the back, gives the option to tighten if the pants are still a little loose around the waist.Even though I have only used them once, I am excited to use them again throughout the hot summer. April 29, 2013
Buy a larger size I have A LOT of junk in my trunk, but still, I normally wear a 6 in pants. With these I tried on several pairs at my local Columbia store. I was really surprised when the 12's fit me the best. The waist was super loose but the legs fit me just right. I should mention that I have muscular legs too. I was able to cinch the waist all the way to the last button hole (there are 5 on each side) and then these pants fit me PERFECTLY. I am really thankful for the adjustable waist elastic band because it is (literally) impossible to find pants like these for petite women with an ample derriere unless you ask a tailor to make them for you ($$$).So one size up as a general rule if you plan to hike and be active in these pants, but add some sizes if you have muscular legs and/or a healthy booty.
