Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket; Great value I purchased this jacket as a result of the return program. I had had the zipper on the front get stuck and as a result had to cut the inner pocket and then the outside pocket to get the contents out. Sent jacket back and was refunded. I absolutely love this jacket as it keeps me warm even on the coldest of days. It cuts much of the wind out which makes working outside much more bearable! I bought the blue one, having owned the black previously and I couldn’t be more thrilled with it. Columbia makes a great product and are even better in their customer service. I am thrilled to be able to continue to wear Columbia and when/I’d there isn’t a defect, they do their best to make it right! Thank you for being a company with integrity and honesty!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product nice quality Color not true black. Tends to be a little blue/green in color. Sleeves a little thin. Overall good jacket for money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid coat; probably not good for all day deep cold I bought an Alpine Action on sale. Pricepoint is great. Fit and finish of the coat is good. The cuffs are a synthetic elastic (not ribbed). I am not at all confident the cuffs will last long (I think they'll age and stretch out--we'll see). Lots of talk in reviews about the Omniheat. Nobody mentioned (that I recall) that the Omniheat is NOT in the sleeves which I think will not keep me warm enough. I'm 150#, 6' (coat fits true to sizing) and I'm not confident this will be warm enough for a full day out without strong physical activity to keep me warm. This is not an interchange coat. I got confused after looking at so many on the Columbia website and thought I was getting an interchange. Disappointing but ok. Overall a good coat for around town (not sure about all day in deeper cold).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice jacket Warm but lightweight . Has powder skirt. Good amount of pockets. Nice jacket overall (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, comfy and functional Lightweight and not bulky but surprisingly still warm. Not for the coldest of winters though : you would have to wear a sweater underneath for that. which isn’t a problem as it’s roomy enough. I would say it’s true to size. I’m almost 6’ and 170lbs and was teetering between M and L. M is a little tight around the chest (and I don’t have a big chest) although the other dimensions are perfect. I’m glad I bought L because it’s roomy enough for a sweater underneath. The only downside is the sleeves don’t have Omniheat insulation (not a problem for me as I usually wear long sleeves shirt underneath) ; otherwise this is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket Great jacket. Bought for my husband. Works great!
Date published: 2018-01-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely warm I bought this for my boyfriend for his birthday and he is very happy with my purchase. He was out shoveling in 10 degree weather and he said he was sweating in it. It’s very warm, and I think it’s very flattering on him. I ordered him the black color in Large - he’s 6’0” 215lbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True winter jacket Functionality, it is great and amazing jacket you will never regret after the purchase. Gaurantee 100%. I've tested it myself with icy cold weather in NY and NJ area during vacation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent quality My husband got this in an XL...its very generously sized and he probably should've chosen the L. (he's usually between sizes so he went up to be "safe.") Nevertheless, he still loves it and likes that he has room for a layer underneath if he thinks he would ever need it. its warm and very sturdy. The fabric is very nice in person. Definitely a nice upgrade from his last Columbia he got in 1997; a year before we got married!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and warm My son wears this jacket when he skis. This is 4th jacket with similar features. When skiing in single digit or sub-zero temperatures he only needs to wear a baselayer underneath. The Omni Heat and Omni Tech technology keeps him warm and dry. I do not recall my son ever coming off the mountain cold or wet from wearing this product. Best part is that there are no complaints from him about this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Jacket! Recently had to get a new jacket as my old Columbia jacket ripped after 5 years of daily winter use. I already have a hat with the Omni-Heat so I knew it works. The jacket is great for keeping me warm. Only wore a short sleeve shirt one of the first days I had it in 20 degrees weather and I was actually warm. Great jacket with a lot of pockets. Don't hesitate. Just buy it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket. This jacket is very comfortable and also very warm. It is made with great materials and should last a very long time. It's nice and light but keeps you protected from the wind and cold air. Hood can be taken off really easy as well. I would recommend this product to anyone, this may be my last jacket I buy in a long while because of it's durability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality winter jacket Overall, this is a nicely made jacket with a lot of practical touches. Tons of pockets allowing you to store all kinds of things including water bottles, snacks, gloves, etc. Most importantly, it keeps you warm at low temps. I took away one star because it was not as waterproof as I expected. I used this at Whistler on a mixed rainy / snowy day, and it absorbed a lot of water. It made for a very uncomfortable experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for active life! I tested this jacket with a fleece sweater at -25°C with no wind. In a mild activity (tobogganing with Beavers Scouts (5 to 7 year olds) was very comfortable and warm. This would not be an urban product for freezing temperatures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I purchased this jacket for my son, and he loves it. He wanted a straight warm fitting winter jacket durable for the cold Chicago weather, and found exactly what he was looking for. Very pleased with this purchase, especially the quick delivery.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Cold Coat for Northern Wisconsin! I purchased this coat to replace a Columbia jacket I have had for 12 years. I absolutely love the Columbia jackets and was pretty excited to get a new one. I was hugely dissapointed! This coat has no warmth at all. I tried the coat outside on a day that was 27 degrees. I was FREEZING and I was snowshoeing and not just standing still. We have had 2 weeks of weather at 20 degrees below zero - I can only imagine how cold I would have been if I had decided to keep this coat and try to wear it in our normal cold winters here in Northern Wisconsin! This is not a coat to purchase if you live in a cold climate and actually want to enjoy the outdoors!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best ski jacket around! For the price, you won't find a better quality ski/snow jacket around. It is light, yet the Omni-heat technology keeps you so warm! I almost got too warm the other day and had to take it off. This is a jacket that won't disappoint. I normally wear large tops, but this coat fit much more comfortably as an XL for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Is it just me? / Am I doing something wrong? I'm amazed at some of the reviews for this jacket. It is well made, in regard to stitching and the utility components it includes. The style is nice enough. I only have one issue: This jacket does NOT keep you warm. It's cold! This jacket by itself would only keep me warm in weather that is 50-40 degrees. In cold weather 35 and lower... you can feel the cold coming through the sleeves especially and somewhat in the body. The Columbia webpage shows the guy wearing nothing but a long/short sleeve t-shirt. Is that some kind of base-layer with special heat retention properties? (Not trying to be sarcastic, genuinely inquiring.) I found myself wondering should I be wearing a fleece or down jacket underneath this one? Is this a snowboarding jacket or active wear jacket where I'm supposed to build up a lot of heat before it begins to work? Is there an assumption that I should be using those new-school layering techniques... with some high tech under layers? I'm not giving this a bad review because genuinely i don't know. I grew up the old school way where you wore coats, sweaters and too many layers that made you toasty warm -and sweaty as soon as you started doing anything. I know that is a big no-no. (sweating). In these modern times I guess you're supposed to be slightly cool so that as you move and build up heat you won't sweat. However, for me just a brisk walk about 5-6 blocks in Manhattan during 20-15 degree weather... I was annoyed to feel cold air seeping through the sleeves. Standing still just leaves you... well COLD! I wore a fleece next time, and a down jacket under that the next time... but this had me feeling like I did in the old-school way. Warmer... but stiff from all the extra layers. For all you people who said you're warm in this jacket, please include what you wore beneath, what you were doing and also the temperature. -Shivering out here in the wilds of Northern, NJ.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket My girlfriend purchased this jacket for me as a christmas gift. I order a new Columbia jacket every year and it seems as though the size for this jacket is different from prior years. I always order a large and this one is just a little bigger then all the larges I have ordered in the past. I am 5 foot 11 inches and weigh 180 pounds. We live in Minnesota and it can get really cold. The last two weeks we have had a high temp. of -10 with the coldest temp getting below -20. It is a little big on me but, while wearing it with a hooded sweatshirt it fits right. It keeps warm and the detachable hood is great! If it is warm out the hood can be easily removed and vice versa. The color is outstanding and the cuffs on the sleeves help to keep the wind out on cold nights. I would suggest buying this jacket but try ordering one size smaller then what you would normally wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from it is just GREAT! I bought this jacket as a gift for my husband. He absolutely loves it! It is light weight and keeps him absolutely warm. We appreciate it so much as we are having this wicked cold weather right now in Western Massachusetts!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Winter Comfort and Style In shopping for a winter coat l wanted warmth and comfort, offering freedom of movement, yet snugness to prevent the cold air from creeping under the coat. A length adequately covering to mid-thigh without sacrificing comfort or restricting movement. Pockets easily accessible and deep enough, without a bulky outward appearance. A collar offering full coverage of the back of my neck and when fully zippered wasn’t uncomfortable at my throat. And, color, material, and style offering an attractive appearance. The “Men’s Alpine Action Jacket” fulfilled my desires and was met with compliments from family and friends, when worn from the very beginning! Thank you, Columbia, your jackets have been my choice for perhaps the past 40 years!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I have been very disappointed with this jacket. It’s pretty flimsy, sizing based on the chart was wrong. I had to return to get another size. As for the jacket itself, my arms stay cold. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why my arms are not kept warm. My torso stays comfortable enough in the cold, but my arms don’t. This jacket is good in 40 or 50° weather but as far as the bitter cold, it simply is not good enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jacket Jacket is very warm. It has been 5-10 deg F here for a few days and hard to notice with this jacket. Only thing I did not like at first was the jacket had a little more hit of blue than what I thought I saw online (was thinking it was more dark grey).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality winter coat I bought this coat a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying it so far. I especially like the adjustable waist band since the coat runs a little bigger than I was expecting.
Date published: 2017-12-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from a bit roomy, zipper malfunction I typically wear medium but on the thicker side. This jacket must be meant to layer underneath because the Medium is quite roomy, a bit more than comfortable. The inside pocket's zipper got caught on the fabric (user error i suppose) but the zipper then split. I may have to take it back as a defect. Less warm than I was hoping now that I've experienced single digit temps with wind. Perhaps they do intend us to layer underneath and not rely too much on the coat's insulation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light but really warm Light weight but really warm. Best coat I have ever owned. Ordering a second in case it’s discontinued.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Men's Alpine Action Jacket I bought this jacket for my husband and it has already earned its keep. It is well made with an excellent fit (he can comfortably layer and not feel confined) and has provided the level of protection from the elements that we were looking for. My husband is warm, dry and protected as he skis and hikes during our frigid winters. The only way this jacket could be better is if it came in the official OU colors- his words not mine. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A light jacket that is plenty warm I wanted a light ski jacket that wasn’t too bulky. With just 2 layers, long underwear shirt and a long sleeve outer shirt, I found this jacket to be plenty warm in 20-degree temps. I wanted the graphite/super blue, but it was out in my size, of large, so I went with black, and I’m so glad I did. Black looks so nice and many people have complimented on how well the jacket looks. Another nice feature about black is it is multi-functional and fits into different social environments outside the ski slopes. The black has a nice crisscross pattern too that changes with what light you’re in to being visible or not. Both these pictures I have attached were taken outside in the sun, of the same area of the jacket, 10 seconds apart. The picture that shows the crisscross pattern is in the shade, the picture that shows almost no crisscross pattern is in direct sunlight. Great jacket and very happy with purchase!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So Big! Fits like most Medium Jackets! This jacket seems great and high quality...but its huge and for that reason I can't wear it. If you're tall and have a long body, it might be perfect but for me, 5 ft 5in 135 pounds--Its just too big for me. I am disappointed that it won't fit because it is just too hard to find a great jacket in an XS size.
